Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, side/windowNov 6, 2025

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze vehicles. The left and/or right-side roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflators located on the roof rails above the headliner, may rupture at the inflator weld joint.

An inflator that ruptures may partially inflate the air bag and cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of an injury.

Dealers will replace the left and/or right-side RRAB modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 5, 2025. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N252530830. 4. Electrical system, ignitionJul 5, 2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

If the key is removed without the transmission in PARK, the vehicle may rollaway as occupants are exiting, increasing the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the key cylinder lock housing, free of charge. The recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 50490 and 50491.

  5. SteeringJul 10, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured November 8, 2013, to March 12, 2015, and 2015 Chevrolet Volt vehicles manufactured April 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the inner tie rod may not be tightened to specification allowing the tie rod to separate from the steering gear.

Separation of the tie rod from the steering gear could result in the loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear assembly, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15386.

  6. Equipment, electricalJul 2, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Buick Encore all-wheel-drive vehicles manufactured August 23, 2012, to September 9, 2013; Verano vehicles manufactured August 8, 2012, to June 20, 2013; Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured August 7, 2012, to August 16, 2013, and 2012-2014 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles manufactured May 10, 2011, to August 16, 2012 equipped with a Calix oil pan/block heater. In cold temperatures, the insulation on the engine block heater cord can become damaged, allowing the wires to be exposed.

Exposed wires increase the risk of electrical shock and personal injury if the cord is handled while it is plugged in.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine oil pan/block heater cord with a new cord that is rated for temperatures of minus 40 degree Celsius. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14257.

  7. Air bagsJun 26, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the driver's front air bag inflator may have been manufactured with an incorrect part.

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's air bag, the air bag's inflator may rupture and the air bag may not inflate. The rupture could cause metal fragments to strike and potentially seriously injure the vehicle occupants. Additionally, if the air bag does not inflate, the driver is at an increased risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver side air bag, free of charge. The recall began on June 28, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14305.

  8. Power train, axle assembly, axle shaftMar 31, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles equipped with a 1.4L turbo engine, and manufactured between November 28, 2012, and March 7, 2014. On the affected vehicles, the right front half shaft may fracture and separate.

If the half shaft fractures and separates while driving, the vehicle would lose power and coast to a stop. If a vehicle with a fractured half shaft is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could move unexpectedly. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the right half shaft, as needed, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. GM will send an interim letter to owners in May 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546. GM's number for this recall is 14079. This is an expansion of recall 13V-452. NOTE: Some vehicles subject to this recall were subject to the recall campaign initiated in 2013. Some of those vehicles were repaired using defective parts. Those owners will be advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles.

  9. Power train, automatic transmissionFeb 21, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall began on April 10, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Buick owners at 1-800-521-7300, and GMC owners at 1-800-462-8782. General Motors' number associated with this recall is 14048.

  10. Power train, axle assembly, axle shaftSep 23, 2013

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles equipped with manual transmissions (MF3/MR5) and manufactured January 24, 2013, through August 1, 2013.

General Motors has notified owners. Dealers will replace the half shaft assembly, free of charge. The safety recall began on October 15, 2013. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300. This is General Motors campaign number 13276.

ADDITIONALLY, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE VEHICLE'S RADIO FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MARK'S CASA CHEVROLET (7201 LOMAS BLVD NE, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87110, (505) 262-8600), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND A FAULT CODE COULD NOT BE RETRIEVED. WIPER ON PASSENGER SIDE JUST STOPPED. TOOK TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID WIPER TRANSMISSION HOWEVER THE PROBLEM IS SO WIDESPREAD THAT EVERYONE INCLUDING GM ARE OUT OF THE PART. A 'SPAT' REQUEST WOULD BE SENT TO TRY TO OBTAIN THE PART NATIONWIDE. NO REASON WHY THIS SHOULD HAPPEN ON A NEWER VEHICLE. LUCKILY IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE.

I NOW HAVE 114,000 MILES ON IT AND READ THERE IS A RECALL ON THE BATTERY GROUNDING SYSTEM THAT CAUSES THIS CURRENT SYSTEM AND COVERS UP TO 120,000 MILES? HEATER NOT WORKING BLOWING COLD AIR ERROR ON DASH "A/C OFF DUE TO ENGINE HIGH TEMPERATURE" <MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR HEATING ISSUES - NEED HELP

  8. Electrical system, Jan 1, 2018

THE CAR HAS STARTED STARTING AND SHUTTING OFF ON ITS OWN. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS SINCE IT STATED DOING THIS IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE WHILE I SLEPT. MY WIFE IS SCARED OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. I ALSO FEAR PUMPING GAS COULD BE DANGEROUS IF IT STARTED WHILE DOING SO. I'VE READ ONLINE IT'S VERY COMMON ON THE CRUZE. I CONTACT GM AND THEY AREN'T COVERING IT WITHOUT A RECALL.

  9. Power train, Engine, Dec 28, 2017

I HAVE HAVE TO HAVE A PCV VALUE COVER/INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACED IN MY CAR 3 TIMES. MY CAR IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THAT WARRANTY WILL EXPIRE. I WILL HAVE TO HAVE IS REPLACED AGAIN AT SOME AND IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE IS ASKING WHY THIS PART HAS TO BE REPLACED SO FREQUENTLY IN A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN 5 YEAR OLD. THERE IS A CODE THAT APPEARS BUT IT IS MONTHS AFTER THE CAR STARTS TO SURGE WHEN YOU TURN IT ON AND FEEL LIKE IT IS GOING TO CUT OUT WHEN IDLING. I LIVE IN THE CITY AND CANNOT HESITATE TO DRIVE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS AS IT MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

  10. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Electronic stability control (ESC), Dec 21, 2017

THE VEHICLE'S RADIO FLASHES ON AND OFF AND A 'SERVICE STABILITRAK' WARNING COMES ON THE ODOMETER SCREEN. I HAVE READ THIS CAUSES SERIOUS ISSUES WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX.

  11. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Air bags, Dec 20, 2017

A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE AIRBAG RANDOMLY. IT EVOLVED TO THE FOLLOWING ISSUES: RADIO CONTROL PANEL GOING OUT WITH NO VOLUME CONTROL BESIDES THE STEERING WHEEL, STATIC ON THE RADIO, A WARNING THAT PARK ASSIST NEEDED TO BE SERVICED (VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE PARK ASSIST), HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF UPON THE VEHICLE BEING TURNED OFF. THE "SOLUTION" AS THERE WERE SO MANY ERRORS THAT RANDOMLY STARTED POPPING UP (MIND YOU, MY CAR WAS SERVICED LESS THAN A MONTH AGO) IS A $1500 CHANGE OF A SENSOR OR UNPLUG THE BACKUP CAMERA PERMANENTLY. THIS CLEARLY IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AS WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULD THE CAR SUDDENLY THINK I HAVE FEATURES THAT I DON'T EVEN HAVE ON THE CAR.

  12. Visibility/wiper, Dec 13, 2017

WHILE DRIVING TO SCHOOL IN THE POURING RAIN, MY DRIVER SIDE WIPER STOPPED WORKING. I DROVE THIRTY MINUTES IN A STORM ON THE HIGHWAY, LEANING ACROSS MY CAR TO SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

  14. Other or unspecified, Electronic stability control (ESC), Nov 29, 2017

MY CAR HAS RECENTLY STARTED TO HAVE THE RADIO TO TURN ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. SOMETIMES MORE SO WHEN I PUSH MY BRAKES. ALSO OCCASIONALLY GET A SERVICE STABILLTRAK WARNING THAT FLASHES AND GOES AWAY. FROM WHAT I CAN READ ONLINE, OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTION. SOME SITUATIONS HAVE GOTTEN BAD AND I WANT TO AVOID THAT AT ALL COSTS AND GET THIS FIXED, OR FIGURE OUT IF I HAVE TO TRADE IT IN AND GET A NEW VEHICLE.

  15. Engine, Nov 27, 2017

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MORGAN PONTIAC (2295 AUTOPLEX DRIVE, BOSSIER, LA 71111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO MORGAN PONTIAC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR CAP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.

  16. Electrical system, Nov 19, 2017

KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. BATTERY IS NOT DEAD. IF THE KEY IS TURNED FAST YOU MAY REMOVE IT FROM THE TUMBLER BUT IF IT IS TURN TOWARDS THE OFF POSITION SLOWLY THE LOCKING MECHANISM RETURNS TO THE RETRACTED STAGE AND WON'T ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED. I CAN MANUALLY REMOVE THE KEY BY PULLING THE LOCK MECHANISM FORWARD WHILE TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION.

  17. Steering, Nov 9, 2017

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WILL START TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT. WHEN I GO TO GIVE IT A SLIGHT CORRECTION IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS AND THAT THE STEERING HAS DISENGAGED. WITH A BIT MORE PRESSURE THE STEERING ENGAGES. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

  18. Visibility/wiper, Nov 9, 2017

WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT (DRIVE SIDE) WIPER STOPPED WORKING. RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) CONTINUED TO WORK WITHOUT ISSUE. AFTER LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE I FOUND THAT THE ARM CONNECTING THE MOTOR TO THE WIPE ARM BROKE FROM THE BALL JOIN. I BELIEVE THIS PIECE IS CALLED THE WIPER TRANSMISSION.

  19. Visibility/wiper, Oct 23, 2017

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THIS MORNING AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKER IN THE POURING RAIN AND IT WAS DARK OUTSIDE, I WAS DOING 45 AND COULDN'T SEE. I HAD TO PUT ON MY HAZARDS SLOW DOWN AND FIND A PARKING LOT TO PULL INTO. I MISSED WORK, AND HAD TO WAIT FOR DAYLIGHT, AND DRIVE SLOW SO I COULD MAKE IT HOME.

  20. Visibility/wiper, Oct 23, 2017

MY DRIVE SAID WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE POURING RAIN. I HAD TO PUT ON MY HAZARDS AND DRIVE SLOWLY TO FIND A PARKING LOT. VERY DANGEROUS.

  21. Vehicle speed control, Oct 18, 2017

IN OCTOBER 2015, I WAS COMING OUT OF THE CAR WASH AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED VERY FAST. I THEN STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. IT WAS GOING SO FAST THAT I COULD NOT STEER IT. I WENT THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, OVER SPEED BUMPS, OVER A CURB, THROUGH A ROW OF BUSHES AND WENT UP IN THE AIR INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN THE HILL, AND THE CAR DROPPED VERY HARD IN THE TURN LANE OF A 4-LANE HIGHWAY IN FRONT OF THE CAR WASH. THE ONLY DAMAGE I SAW WAS THE FRONT AND REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WERE FLAT AND HAD A HUGE HOLE IN THEM. TIRES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE RADIO AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IN THE VEHICLE FLICKERED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL CEASED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI OF SILISBEE (1275 U.S. 96F BUSINESS, SILISBEE, TX 77656), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,168. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

  23. Electrical system, Oct 16, 2017

RADIO SHUTS OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND THE STABILITY TRACK WARNING COMES ON. RADIO WILL RESUME AND WARNING WILL GO AWAY WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO. GENERALLY CAN BE RECTIFIED BY SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND TURNING IT BACK ON.

  24. Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 4, 2017

MY CAR IS A 2014 CHEVROLET CRUZE AND ONLY HAD 17,000 MILES ON IT WHEN MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET AT NIGHT. BEFORE THAT HAPPENED I NOTICED FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THAT MY GAS WAS BURNING UP AT AN ALARMING RATE. NOT EVEN GETTING 25 MILES WHEN I HAD PUT $20.00 IN TANK. THE DAY THIS HAPPENED I LEFT MY HOUSE WHERE I WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, MY FIRST STOP WAS A GAS STATION. UPON LEAVING THERE I MADE IT HALF A BLOCK AND CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I COULD NOT GO ANYWHERE JUST DEAD. TRIED THE BATTERY, TRIED TO JUMP IT BUT NOTHING WORKED, SO I HAD IT TOWED HOME.. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE THEY TOLD ME I HAD SOMETHING IN MY GAS, SENT ME A PICTURE OF THIS MEASURING CUP WITH 2 DIFFERENT SEPARATED LIQUIDS IN IT. ONE CLEAR AND ONE LIGHT BROWN. SAID IT WOULD BE $1013. AND CHANGE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND SINCE IT WAS VANDALISM IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS VERY UPSET SO HE SUGGESTED I CALL INSURANCE AND CLAIM THROUGH THEM. WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH THEM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHEN THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER WAS GOING TO BE THERE. 2 WEEKS WENT BY AND I WAS STILL PAYING FOR A CAR RENTAL AND THEY HADN'T STARTED ON MY CAR YET. INSURANCE ADJUSTER CAME OUT AND SAID THEY WOULD COVER IF IT WAS VANDALISM BUT HE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS VANDALISM. I DIDN'T EITHER SINCE I WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND I WAS HAVING FUEL PROBLEMS BEFORE. SO MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS KIND OF HIGH AND INSURANCE SAID IT WASN'T WORTH IT TO COVER FOR THAT LITTLE BIT OF MONEY AND I AGREED. IT TOOK THEM LONGER THAN 2 WEEKS TO FIX IT. THEY SAID THE BAD FUEL MADE THE FUEL PUMP GO OUT, AND I'M NOT SO SURE BECAUSE TONS OF PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP IN DIFFERENT ONLINE FORUMS. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS MORE PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS. UPLOADED 2 PHOTOS AND ALSO HAVE PAPERWORK INFO FROM INSURANCE.

  25. Engine, Oct 3, 2017

I HAPPEN TO CHECK UNDER MY HOOD TO SEE WHY I WASN'T GETTING ANY HEAT IN MY CAR. I THEN CAME TO REALIZE THAT THERE WASN'T ANY COOLANT, WHEN I WAS THERE ONE 10 DAYS PRIOR AT THE DEALERSHIP TO GET MY OIL CHANGED AND THE PAPER STATED THAT ALL FLUIDS WERE CHECKED. I THEN NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP, AND PUT SOME COOLANT IN MY CAR SO I WOULDN'T CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. THEY CHECK IT, CLAIMED THERE WASN'T ANYTHING GOING ON WITH IT. AND SENT ME HOME. I THEN HAD A COWORKER TELL ME THAT WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING WAS MY WATER PUMP. I THEN NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN THAT I WAS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, AND THAT I AM NOW SMELLING COOLANT IN THE CAR AND MY CAR ACT LIKE ITS READY TO STALL.. THEY GOT ME BACK IN AND CHECKED WHAT I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT. THEY FOUND OUT I WAS RIGHT IT WAS THE WATER PUMP.. I HAD FOUND A RECALL ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING AND SHOWED THEM, AND BECAUSE THEY CHECKED BY VIN NUMBER MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE THIS RECALL BUT MY CAR SHOULD HAVE. IT WAS FOR THE 1.4 ENGINE, NOT MY 1.8. I HAD MY WATER PUMP REPLACED, MY THERMOSTAT AND I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES. THIS CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND SHOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS SO EARLY. GM NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING FOR ALL CRUZE OWNERS CAUSE I AM TIRED OF SPENDING OVER 600 DOLLARS AND STILL HAVING ISSUES.
