Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain replacement intermediate steering shafts sold under the Dorman, OE Solutions, and Solutions brand names, part numbers 425-167, 2425167, and 7-3074, for installation on 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6, and 2007-2009 Saturn Aura vehicles. The affected steering shafts may have a yoke that inadequately supports the u-joint bearing resulting in a premature failure.
A joint bearing that fails prematurely may cause separation of the u-joint resulting in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dorman will notify owners, and dealers will refund the purchase price or replace the steering shafts, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Power train, automatic transmissionApr 30, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Steering, electric power assist systemMar 31, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. Bulletin 14115 covers model year 2004-2007 Saturn Ion, 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. Dealers will replace the EPS motor. Bulletin 14116 covers model year 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from March 1, 2008, through June 27, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly. Bulletin 14117 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from February 1, 2008, through February 28, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly and EPS motor controller unit. Bulletin 14118 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from October 1, 2007, through January 31, 2008. Dealers will replace the EPS motor controller unit. The recall began on July 17, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, and Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668. GM's number for this recall is N140115. Note: GM bulletin number 14119 will be implemented for model year 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo) and model year 2003 Saturn ION to provide EPS Motor replacement for the life of the vehicle.

SAT DOWN IN DRIVERS SEAT AND IT POPPED AND SLUMPED TO THE RIGHT TOWARDS THE CENTER CONSOLE. I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND THE METAL TUBE FRAME HAD SEPARATED AT THE WELD AND LOOKS LIKE IT JUST PEELED BACK. THE SEAT IS NOW UNSTABLE AND WILL WOBBLE BACK AND FORTH DURING DRIVING. RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC OF DRIVER SEAT FRAMES BREAKING IN THE SAME MANOR ON THIS YEAR MALIBU MAXX. WITH SO MANY VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE SAME MALFUNCTION IN THE FRAME IT WOULD APPEAR THAT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT EXISTS WITH THIS SEAT. THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INVESTIGATE AND REPAIR THE DEFECT AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

DRIVING AWAY FROM WORK IN A PARKING LOT AND THE FRONT RIGHT SEAT OF THE DRIVER SEAT POPPED AND SAGGED ABOUT 3 INCHES DOWN, SHOVING THE SEAT SIDEWAYS. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK IT AND FOUND THAT A PIPE RUNNING THE FRONT OF THE SEAT HAD SHEERED AWAY ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. DRIVING IT HOME, ANOTHER POP IN THE BACK OF THE SEAT HAPPENED AND NOW THE SEAT IS SHOVED INTO THE CENTER CONSOLE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE AND HEARD A LOUD POP. SUDDENLY I AM SITTING SIDEWAYS IN THE DRIVER SEAT. AFTER PULLING OVER AND STOPPING, I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT BRACKET/SUPPORT HAD BROKE ON THE RIGHT SIDE, NEXT TO THE CONSOLE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN APRIL 2012 AND HAVE A LIMITED WARRANTY THAT DOES NOT COVER THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR DEFECT? I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR OR HAVING ANYONE AS PASSENGERS FOR FEAR OF LOOSING CONTROL IF THE LEFT SIDE BREAKS. I CONTACTED CHEVY DIRECTLY WITH THIS RESPONSE...PER OUR CONVERSATION THIS MORNING, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT CONCERNED WITH THIS MATTER AS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH IT'S 2005 MALIBU DRIVER SEAT FRAMES. I PRAY THAT NO FATALITIES COME OF THIS POOR DECISION ON CHEVROLET'S PART. *TR

THE DRIVERS SIDE POWER SEAT STARTED TO SAG ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTMENT IS USED, THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE SEAT DOES NOT RAISE WHICH MAKES THE SEAT LEAN. FINALLY, THE SEAT NOW ROCKS FORWARD AND BACKWARD. IT APPEARS THAT THE FRAME OF THE SEAT HAS BROKEN. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING MY MALIBU AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR AND NEGOTIATING A SLIGHT CURVE THE DRIVERS SEAT QUICKLY TILTED TO THE RIGHT AND BECAME UNHINGED. THE ENTIRE DRIVERS SEAT IS NOW NOT ATTACHED TO THE "FRAME" ON THE BOTTOM-WHICH I AM TOLD NEEDS TO BE "REWELDED". I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU LT MODEL WITH A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WELD THAT HOLDS THE TOP SEAT FRAME TO THE LOWER SEAT FRAME. THE WELD THAT'S HOLDS THEM TOGETHER BROKE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN. THE SEAT ONLY HAS ONE WELD ON THE LOWER RIGHT BRAKET, BUT THE LEFT LOWER BRAKET HAS TWO WELDS ONE ON EACH SIDE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN AT 55,000 AND 88,000 MILES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS ADDRESS. *TR

THE POWER SEAT DROPPED ON THE RIGHT SIDE AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHARP LEFT HAND TURN. THE SUDDEN DROP CAUSED ME TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND THE SUPPORT BAR THAT RUNS ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE SEAT HAD BROKEN AT THE WELD. IT LOOKS LIKE A TOP OF A TIN CAN PEELED BACK. I AM NOT A BIG PERSON. I WEIGH AROUND 230LBS. I THINK THAT THE WELD WAS BAD WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING SO SIMPLE COULD'VE COST ME AND MY FAMILY OUR LIVES. I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT THIS POINT SO I HAD TO WEDGE A PIECE OF WOOD UNDER IT UNTIL I CAN. *TR

DRIVERS SIDE FRONT POWER SEAT BROKE CAUSING SEAT TO BOUNCE , LEANS TO THE RIGHT REAR ALSO WHEN HEIGHT ADJUSTED ONLY LEFT SIDE GOES UP . WELD LET GO WHICH IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WITH ALOT OF OTHER MALIBU PURCHASERS .THIS IS A SERIOUS MANUFACTORING DEFFECT IN THE WELDS AND FRAME CONSTRUCTION OF THESE FRONT SEATS. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH TO THE PASSENGERS IN THIS VEHICLE. NEVER MIND IF YOU HIT SOME OTHER VEHICLE OR PERSONS DURING THIS SEAT FAILURE . I DONT BELEIVE GM WILL NOT PUT A RECALL OUT ON THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE TOYOTA PUT AN ENTIRE FRAME ON MY TRUCK NO QUESTIONS MAY BE I SHOULD BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA INSTEAD .

THE DRIVER'S POWER SEAT IS BROKEN. IT'S BEEN SLOWLY STARTING TO TILT BACK AND TO THE RIGHT AND FINALLY SNAPPED. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS IT IS VERY COMMON WITH THE CHEVY MALIBU AND ALSO VERY EXPENSIVE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS A BROKEN DRIVERS SEAT WILL NOT WORK AS INTENDED IN A CRASH. THE SEAT TILTS TO THE RIGHT NOW AND BOUNCES WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, SO BEING A SAFETY CONCERN IT'S ALSO VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE RECALL SITUATION FOR THE MALIBU SEAT AND THE DEALER SHOULD NOT BE PROFITING OFF A DESIGN FLAW. *KB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

THE METAL FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT (BACK RIGHT CORNER) COMPLETELY BROKE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 1.5 YEARS OLD THE CAR LOT WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $800.00 TO REPLACE IT SO I DIDN'T DO IT. A FRIEND OWNS A JUNK YARD AND HE HAS THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CAR BROUGHT IN AFTER IT WRECKED SO I WAS GOING TO GET THAT SEAT OUT OF THE CAR, THAT SEAT WAS BROKE IN THE SAME SPOT. MY BROTHER IS A WELDER AND HE SAID THE METAL IS TOO THIN TO EVEN BE ABLE TO WELD IT TO FIX IT. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS WAS A RECALL BECAUSE IF I WRECK THE SEAT AND I WILL BE GOING INTO THE AIRBAG TOGETHER. *TR

SOMETHING BROKE UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT. IT NOW LEANS TO THE RIGHT. IT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP. IT CAUSES STRAIN ON MY BACK TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO LEAN ALL THE WAY TO THE DOOR FOR THE SEAT TO BE UTILIZED. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE METAL BRACKET SNAPPED AND NEEDED TO BE WELDED TOGETHER OR THE SEAT REPLACED. I FOUND A LIST OF FOLKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AT THIS SITE: HTTP://WWW.ARFC.ORG/COMPLAINTS/2005/CHEVROLET/MALIBU_MAXX/SEATS/PROBLEM.ASPX.M *TR

I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 5 1/2 YEARS AND HAVE ALMOST 85K MILES ON IT. I'M 185LBS. AND MY WIFE IS A LOT LESS :-) THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY DRIVER SEAT SUDDENLY DROPPED ABOUT 2 OR 3 INCHES WHILE MY WIFE WAS MAKING A TURN WHILE DRIVING MY CAR. LUCKILY SHE WASN'T MOVING TOO FAST AND HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO MANEUVER. THE SEAT WOULD THEN ROCK DEPENDING ON WHICH WAY SHE TURNED THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME THE SEAT FRAME WELD WAS BAD AND THE FRAME HAD TO BE REPLACED. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND OVER A DOZEN COMPLAINTS ALMOST ALL IDENTICAL. TWO OR THREE COULD BE COINCIDENCE, BUT OVER A DOZEN? ESTIMATED COST WAS $800 BUT THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THIS DEFECTIVE PART COULD GET SOMEONE KILLED. AND DOES MY "NEW" PART HAVE THE SAME DEFECT? *TR

DRIVER SEAT FRAME FAILURE. THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT STARTED TILTING TO THE RIGHT ON 10/7/2011. NEXT DAY IT WAS WOBBLING BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING. THEN IT FELT AS THOUGH SOMETHING BROKE UNDERNEATH. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ANY OF THE CARS I HAVE OWNED. (TOYOTA COROLLA, BUICK CENTURY). I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM CARMAX WITH 30000 MILES ON IT. I AM NOT AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER AND TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CARS. I DO NOT THINK SOMETHING LIKE THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. WHEN WILL THERE BE A RECALL ON THE THESE SEATS. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FIXED. I READ WHERE ONE OWNER HAD TO HAVE HIS SEAT FIXED TWICE. WHICH COST HIM OVER $1000 BOTH TIMES. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS. PLEASE ASSIST IN GETTING A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *KB

LEFT FRONT (DRIVER'S SEAT) IS BROKEN, IT ROCKS SIDE TO SIDE, SLIDES FORE AND AFT SLIGHTLY, AND NO LONGER HOLDS HEIGHT POSITION. THE SEAT IS A 6 WAY POWER SEAT. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (PUYALLUP, WA) WAITING FOR A NEW SEAT TRACK TO BE INSTALLED. ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $800.00. DEALERS STATED THAT THE SEAT TRACK WAS BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES (FAILED WELD POINTS). I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY DEFECT AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. *TR

I HAD MY FIRST PROBLEM WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. IT WOULD JERK & FELT IT WAS MOVING ON IT'S OWN. THEN THE LAMPS WOULD GO OUT AND I WAS REPLACING THE BULBS EVERY MONTH. THEN MY KEY STARTER HAS FAILED TWO TIMES AFTER REPLACING THEM. THE DRIVER SEAT HAS CALAPSED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. THE REAR SEAT HANDLE TO RAISE THE SEATS UP AND DOWN HAS BROKEN ON BOTH PASSENGER SIDE. MY LIGHTS HAVE BURNED OUT ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE YOU CAN SEE THE RESIDUE ON THE COVER. THE CHAIRS WAS NOT SCOTCH GUARD PROTECTED AS STATED THEY ARE VERY STAINED EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO WAS THEM. IN READY SOME OF THE OTHERS IT APPEAR AS THOUGH MU CARE HAD ALL THE DEFECTS OF MY COUNTER PARTS. *TR

AT APPROX 76,000 MILES THE POWER DRIVERS SEAT STARTED TO LEAN TO THE RIGHT. A WELD BROKE LOOSE FROM THE SEAT FRAME UNDERNEATH. THE REPAIR REQUIRES SEAT REPLACEMENT FOR OVER $1000. THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND SINCE IT CLEARLY IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. ITS UNFAIR. *TT

DRIVERS SEAT FRAME FAILURE, FRAME ON DRIVERS SEAT IS CRACKED CAUSING SEAT TO BECOME UNEVEN AND UNSTABLE, CAR HAS 65K MILES, I AM OF AVERAGE WEIGHT AND VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN ON ROUGH/POTHOLE STREWN ROADS (FL). CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW, WAS TOLD "OUT OF WARRANTY, SORRY". THERE IS NO WAY A SEAT FRAME ON A 51/2 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD BE CRACKED AND A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, MALIBU (NEW STYLE) YEARS 2004-2007. PRICE TO REPAIR FROM DEALER WAS OVER $1000, PLEASE HELP THOSE OF US WHO CANNOT GET HELP FROM GM REGARDING THIS ISSUE BY ISSUING A RECALL, IF AFFECTED VEHICLES GET INTO A COLLISION THE DRIVERS SEAT WILL LIKELY BECOME DETACHED FROM CAR WITH OBVIOUSLY DETRIMENTAL CONSEQUENCES TO THE DRIVER. WE ALL KNOW THAT CARS DO BREAK AND DON'T LAST FOREVER BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE GM GIVE US A SEAT FRAME THAT WON'T CRACK AND BREAK UNDER NORMAL USAGE IN LESS THAN 6 YEARS AND BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY HIGH COST TO REPAIR THIS MANY WILL BE FORCED TO DRIVE THEM THAT WAY, THANK YOU. *KB
