Steering, electric power assist systemFeb 4, 2015
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain replacement intermediate steering shafts sold under the Dorman, OE Solutions, and Solutions brand names, part numbers 425-167, 2425167, and 7-3074, for installation on 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6, and 2007-2009 Saturn Aura vehicles. The affected steering shafts may have a yoke that inadequately supports the u-joint bearing resulting in a premature failure.
A joint bearing that fails prematurely may cause separation of the u-joint resulting in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dorman will notify owners, and dealers will refund the purchase price or replace the steering shafts, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492.

Electrical system, wiringMay 14, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Power train, automatic transmissionApr 30, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 17, 2013
FUELED UP AND THE GAS LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. GAS GAUGE WENT UP AND DOWN AND NOW STAYS ON. DOES NOT RECOGNIZE FUEL IS IN THE CAR AND ALWAYS SAYS LOW FUEL EVEN AFTER FUELING UP. BOTH CHECK ENGINE AND GAS LIGHT ARE STEADY ON. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 18, 2013
FUEL GAUGE STARTED READING EMPTY AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON. AFTER DRIVING FAR ENOUGH TO BURN OFF A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS THE GAS GAUGE WOULD START FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED AND WHEN THE CHEVY MECHANIC PUT IN THE VIN# HE SAID IT HAD DONE THAT BEFORE. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. I GUESS IT'S TIME TO START BUYING FORDS AGAIN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SYSTEM FAILED TO REGISTER ACCURATE FUEL LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED NOR WAS THE MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

THIS 2007 MALIBU WILL JUST DIE ON YOU AT A STOP LIGHT AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE BACKING UP. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS NOT BEEN WORKING FOR A LONG TIME A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. THE CAR CAN BE FULL OF GAS AND IT WILL SHOW IT IS ON EMPTY. WHEN WE FIRST GOT THE CAR THE AIR BAG SIGNS WOULD COME ON AND WE TOOK IT BACK TO GM DEALER AND THEY COULD NEVER FIND ANY PROBLEM. ALSO THE SEAT BELT LIGHT COMES ON AND YOUR HAVE YOUR SEAT BELT ON. THIS CAR HAS ALSO HAS JUST BEEN AT THE DEALERS FOR REPAIR FOR THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING PROBLEMS, VERY SCARY. IT CONCERNS ME ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR DYING ON YOU IF YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON WITH THIS CAR ARE STRANGE AND THINGS LIKE THE FUEL GAUGE, POWER STEERING YOU WOULD THINK YOU WOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH. I THINK THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT HAD ANY THING TO DO WITH THE FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING. THEY SURE DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 17, 2012
I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM A USED CAR LOT ON JULY OF 2011. AS OF FEBRUARY OF 2012 THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING (ALWAYS SAYS GAS TANK IS ON EMPTY). WHEN I FILL UP MY TANK IT WILL READ 'FULL' FOR A FEW HOURS, THEN IT WILL EVENTUALLY DROP ALL THE WAY TO 'EMPTY' AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SUGGESTED THAT I REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF MY PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE RECALL DATED FEBRUARY 28, 2011. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 31, 2012
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONTACT CHARGED AND REPLACED THE BATTERY IN AN ATTEMPT FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE VEHICLE WOULD START FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES AND WOULD AUTOMATICALLY STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11E009000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,007 AND THE CURRENT FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,800.
Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 22, 2012
HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENSOR, THOUGHT IT WAS FUEL LEVEL SENSOR BUT APPARENTLY FROM ALL OTHERS REPORTS THESE ARE SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE REMOTE START TO WORK. ALSO IDLES ROUGH SEEMS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. *TR
Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 16, 2012
WHEN FILLING UP THE CAR TO FULL WITH GAS. THE GAS GAUGE READS LOW FUEL AND ON E AND THEN THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT COMES ON. SOMETIMES IT WILL BOUNCE BACK UP TO SHOW HOW MUCH GAS IS REMAINING ONLY TO FALL BACK TO LOW FUEL AND E AGAIN. HAD THIS COMPUTER CHECKED AND THEY SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENSOR LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK. THE ESTIMATED COST TO FIX THIS WOULD BE AROUND 600. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM SINCE THEY RECALLED THEIR SUV'S FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I CAN'T TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS ACTUALLY IN THE CAR AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE TRIP FOR THIS. WITH THE LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR, I THINK IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PUT OUT THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR FAULTY PROBLEMS ON GM PARTS. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 10, 2012
THE LOW FUEL LIGHT AND WARNING CAME ON AS I BEGAN TO PULL OUT OF A SERVICE STATION. IF I FILL UP ON GAS ANYWHERE THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON AND REMAINS ON UNTIL MY GAS LEVEL IS LESS THAN HALF. THIS CAUSES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO REMAIN ON CONSTANTLY AND DISABLES THE REMOTE START FUNCTION. *TR
Electrical system, Air bags, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 26, 2012, crash
I HAD GOT IN A CRASH IN 2010 SINCE THEN MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS GOING ON AND OFF. NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHTS STAY ON SAYING THERE NOT ON. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE A WORKING FUEL PUMP SENSOR. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 20, 2012
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK ON MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU THE GAS GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY AND BEGAN ACTING ERRATICALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6-7 TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTH. TYPICALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON BUT NOT ALWAYS, CALLED THE DEALER, SOUNDS LIKE A FUEL SENSOR WHICH WILL COST AROUND $800 TO FIX, ALSO, SPEEDOMETER IS HAS BEEN JUMPING AROUND FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW! HAD THE CAR IN THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR A VIBRATION NOISE IN THE DASH THAT WOULD COME AND GO, DEALER KEPT SAYING IT WAS FROM WIPER BLADES THEY WOULD REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD GO AWAY FOR TEMPORARILY, 5 YEARS LATER STILL GET THE VIBRATION ESPECIALLY ON A WINDY DAY!THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS! I HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT WELL, AFTER READING THOUSANDS OF ALL THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINTS, HOW CAN CHEVY NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS? THESE ARE NOT JUST NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR COMPLAINTS THESE ARE DEFINITELY FAULTY PARTS USED BY CHEVY! *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 8, 2012
MY FUEL GAUGE WILL JUMP FROM EMPTY TO WHATEVER LEVEL OF FUEL IS IN THE TANK WITHOUT CAUSE. IT HAS MADE MY "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT GO ON. ON OCCASION THE LIGHT WILL GO OUT BUT THEN IT WILL REAPPEAR. I HAVE CHANGED FUEL CAPS TO SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. I FINALLY HAD THE ENGINE DIAGNOSED AND HAD TROUBLE CODE P0463 COME UP WHICH INDICATES A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON IN THE 2007 MALIBU AND BEGINS TO APPEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS @ 4 - 5 YEARS OF AGE. I GUESS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CHEVROLET IS GOING TO ABOUT THE ISSUE SINCE IT SEEMS SO COMMON, IT SEEMS TO BE BECAUSE OF A FAULTY OR CHEAP PART, AND THE REPAIR IS RATHER EXPENSIVE. *TR
Fuel/propulsion system, May 22, 2012
THE FUEL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED GOING FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND THEN BACK TO THE ACTUAL LEVEL. ONCE IT STARTED HAPPENING IT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AND NO REAL PATTERN. AFTER 3 OR 4 OCCURRENCES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & STAYS ON UNTIL I GET CLOSE TO EMPTY AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT REGISTERS BUT ONLY FOR FEW SECONDS BEFORE YOU RUN OUT OF GAS ON DARK HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE NO WHERE LAND. COST OF REPAIRS ESTIMATES IS $600-800 AND SHOULD BE ON RECALL AS CLEARLY ITS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AFTER READING ALL THE BLOGS ONLINE OF OTHER MALIBU OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TT
