  2. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationJun 14, 2018

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. During servicing, a Passenger Presence System (PPS) may have been installed that was not correctly calibrated to the vehicle's seat type. As a result, the PPS may not properly identify an adult passenger from a child passenger in the front passenger seat, potentially causing the air bag to not deploy when it should, or causing the air bag to deploy when it shouldn't.

In the event of a crash, improper air bag deployment can increase the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger PPS seat service kit, free of charge. The recall began August 7, 2018. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 18208.

The two weld studs that mount the front and rear side impact air bags may fracture and separate from the air bag during deployment. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Fractured weld studs may allow the side air bag to move out of position during deployment, increasing the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began on April 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 31820.

METER READS AS A 'MISFIRE CODE'; TOTAL TUNE UP WAS CONDUCTED (REPLACED ALL PLUGS & WIRING/COIL PACK); WAS STABLE FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS AND THEN 'STABILITRAK' CODE REAPPEARED WITH CAR SHAKING AGAIN.

SO I TRICKLE CHARGED IT AND 4 HOURS LATER WHEN IT FINALLY TURNED ON I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED. THE BATTERY IS FINE. HOWEVER, THE STABILITRAC IS NOT COMING BACK ON ALONG WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL AND LANE ASSIST. THE BACK UP CAMERA, BACK UP CAMERA LINES, CRASH AVERSION SENSORS, AND SCREEN WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE 10TH OF AUGUST AFTER THE CAR CAME BACK ON. 11. Electrical system, Electronic stability control (ESC), Jun 10, 2020

THE MAIN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE IS THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND I TURN THE CAR OFF THE FRONT PANEL WILL SAY THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE PARKED POSITION AND WON'T ALLOW THE CAR TO TURN OFF. I HAVE TO PUSH THE START BUTTON ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES AND SHIFT THE CAR IN AND OUT OF PARK BEFORE THE SENSOR CAN GAUGE THAT THE CAR IS IN THE PARKED POSITION AND WILL ALLOW THE CAR TO BE TURNED OFF. THIS OFTEN TAKES 5-20 MIN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE RADIO WON'T TURN OFF, THE DASH BOARD WON'T TURN OFF AND CAR WON'T SHUT DOWN. ALSO THE CAR OFTEN GIVES ME INCORRECT READINGS ON THE DASH BOARD. *TR

  12. Electronic stability control (ESC), May 6, 2020

MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A 2016 CHEVY MALIBU. WE BOUGHT IT BACK IN 2016 BRAND NEW. SINCE THEN, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US MULTIPLE TIMES. WE'LL BE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST PACED TRAFFIC THE CAR SUDDENLY WON'T GO ABOVE 30MPH. IT'S VERY SCARY. THE THIRD TIME IT WAS WINTER AND I HAD ALL MY YOUNGER SIBLINGS IN THE CAR, AND I WAS PREGNANT (ALL UNDER THE AGE OF 13) AND WE WERE ON I-94 AND IT SUDDENLY WOULDN'T GO OVER 30MPH AGAIN LEAVING US TEMPORARILY STRANDED UNTIL A FAMILY MEMBER HAD TO COME PICK US ALL UP. WE BROUGHT IT IN AND PAID ABOUT $500 OUT OF POCKET DUE TO THROTTLE SENSORY ISSUES. NOW I AM CURRENTLY STUCK AT HOME TODAY (5/6/2020) ONCE AGAIN BECAUSE IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN EVEN THOUGH WE GOT THE ISSUE FIXED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. YESTERDAY I WAS ON A COUNTY ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY WITH MY INFANT/BABY IN THE CAR AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND IT SAID 'ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED' AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 30MPH. IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO GET TO AN 'AUTOZONE' SHOP AT THIS CRAWLING SPEED WITH MY FLASHERS ON (AND A RESTLESS SCREAMING BABY) TO HAVE THEM READ THE ENGINE CODE.. SURE ENOUGH THEY TOLD ME IT IS A THROTTLE SENSOR ISSUE. THIS IS EXHAUSTING AND DANGEROUS! *TR

I ASK COULD THEY JUST REPLACE THE CALL SINCE THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO FIXED IT. SO, AND STILL HAVING THIS ISSUES. GM EXTENDED THE RECALL AND I TOOK IT BACK IN YESTERDAY MARCH 18, 2020. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS FIXED AND TO PICK IT UP. SO, I GET THERE DIDN'T MAKE IT OUT THE LOT. SO, I RETURN BACK TO THE SERVICE DESK AND I WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. SO I ASK WHY THIS ISN'T ON MY SERVICE SHEET I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS WIPED OUT AND THAT I HAD TO REQUEST IT. PUTTING ME BACK IN DANGER. THIS HAS BEEN A HEADACHE. I FILE A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT AND THEY OFFER MY 4500 AND I OWE 18,000 ON A CAR THAT HAVE BEEN GIVING ME ISSUES FROM THE DAY ONE. GM OFFERING TO SETTLE OUT FOR 4500 IS ADMITTING FOUGHT

SO I FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL IF I HAD TO READ A LOT OF STORIES THAT ARE SIMILAR TO MINE. MY VEHICLE WAS DRIVING FINE AND THEN I GET A SIGNAL ON MY DASH AS I AM GOING UP A HILL SAYING THAT "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A STREET TRYING TO GET TO WORK AND I COULD BARELY GET UP THE HILL. THANK GOODNESS THERE WASN'T A LOT OF TRAFFIC THAT TIME OF DAY. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO A STORE TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND THE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A THROTTLE UNIT REPLACEMENT. IT IS SUPPOSED TO CONTROL MY ACCELERATION. THIS IS QUITE DANGEROUS TO KEEP HAPPENING AND NOTHING BE DONE ABOUT IT WHEN I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON IT. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY STORY TOO AND HOPEFULLY SOMETHING CAN BE FIXED.

  22. Electrical system, Electronic stability control (ESC), Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 28, 2019

PRESS ON THE GAS AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN TO AN ALMOST STOP POSITION. WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET OR ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR DECIDES IT WANTS TO SHUT DOWN. ALL ELECTRICAL REGARDING THE FRONT AND BACK CAMERAS HAVE GONE BLACK.

  23. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Electronic stability control (ESC), Dec 22, 2019

ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON A LEAST ONCE A WEEK. WHEN DRIVING MY CAR LOOSES SPEED WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER BEFORE MY CAR CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. AFTER PULLING OVER I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART MY CAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THE STABILITY LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF FOR NO REASON. I GET NOTIFICATIONS ON EMISSION RELATED TO MY FUEL TANK EVEN THOUGH I HAVE SUFFICIENT FUEL.

  24. Vehicle speed control, Electronic stability control (ESC), Engine, Dec 9, 2019

WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR HESITATES FOR 15-20 SECONDS BEFORE TAKE-OFF. THE LIGHTS AND RADIO GOES OFF AND THE DOME LIGHT GLITCHES. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT COMES-ON. THE CAR HAS A REAL SLOW TAKE-OFF. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED IN JULY 2018 AND IT STARTED OVER IN THE LAST TWO-WEEKS.

  25. Vehicle speed control, Electronic stability control (ESC), Engine, Dec 8, 2019

WHEN I AM DRIVING MY 2016 CHEVY MALIBU WILL REDUCE SPEED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE DASH READS 'ENGINE REDUCED POWER'. THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2016. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOTES OF MANY TIMES I HAVE REPORTED.
