I was towing a small enclosed trailer behind my RV. The trailer is less than allowed weight allowed for the vehicle including tongue and GVW. The trailer had one golf cart inside of it. About 4 hours into my trip, i was making a left turn and the frame to the RV split at the manufacture installed hitch. The hitch is still bolted to the frame with 3 bolts on each side. The hitch then bent downward at a 45 degree angle causing the ball and trailer coupling to pry apart and allowing the trailer to drop to the road and drag. the safety chains held, but were also attached to the hitch as well as the breakaway control cable. I was only going about 25 MPH and stopped prior the the hitch pulling further away from the main frame. Hearing and seeing the problem, i stopped in about 50 ft and blocked the wheels and had to call someone to come and bring the trailer to my residence. I am glad i was not traveling on the interstate when this let go. I had just stopped 1 1/2 hours prior at the rest stop and looked at the hitch from 15' away, but everything looked good.
Structure, Trailer hitches, Other or unspecified, Sep 29, 2026, crash
Our Forest River Georgetown 5 Series 36KB motorhome has experienced TWO separate failures involving the rear hitch/tow attachment system. The first failure occurred while towing our 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The hitch assembly/connection failed, the jeep almost became detached on 95. We pulled over and jeep crashed into RV. The motorhome and Jeep was repaired through our insurance/Good Sam assistance. We have now experienced a second failure involving the same general hitch/chassis attachment area. A weld/attachment connecting the hitch structure to the chassis failed and came apart. This failure has raised serious concerns about the structural integrity of the hitch attachment and the safety of continuing to tow with this motorhome. These are two separate failures involving the same critical towing system. Failure of the hitch or its chassis attachment while traveling could result in separation of the towed vehicle, loss of control, property damage, serious injury, or death to occupants or other motorists. We have photographs and repair documentation from both incidents. We have also identified publicly available information from an RV repair facility discussing failures involving the same or substantially similar hitch/chassis attachment area and describing such failures as recurring/common. We are preserving that information as supporting evidence. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader safety defect involving the hitch/chassis attachment system on Georgetown 5 Series motorhomes or substantially similar vehicles, and whether other owners have experienced similar failures. We are willing to provide photographs, repair records, estimates, VIN information, and the repair facility/video evidence upon request. —— Repair shop is posting PSA and multiple similar reports found [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Component: Interior trim – driver-side sofa/dinette slide Georgetown 2024 5 Series 36B5 Complaint Description: The driver-side sofa/dinette slide trim in my 2024 Georgetown 5 Series 36B5 has detached and fallen into the coach interior on two separate occasions, creating a serious safety hazard. The first incident occurred while the vehicle was stationary. The trim fell inside the coach and narrowly missed my two-year-old child. This could have resulted in serious injury. The unit was repaired by Camping World under warranty. The second incident occurred while the vehicle was in motion. The same trim detached again, this time breaking through the screen door across from it in the living area, narrowly missing my head as passenger. This caused loud noise, panic, and a major distraction to the driver. It frightened our dog and created a near-crash situation. As the front passenger, I attempted to secure the falling trim to prevent it from striking our child passengers and nearly cut my hand on the broken material in the process. This is a repeat failure of the same component after repair, indicating a potential design, installation, or manufacturing defect. An interior component becoming a projectile while driving presents a serious safety risk to occupants. I am requesting that this issue be reviewed as a potential vehicle safety defect affecting this model. Please also note that Camping World is working with Ford to fix a clerical error on this model which is a 2024 NOT a 2023. I have reported these issues to both Forest River and Camping World. Currently awaiting resolution.
