The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash.

Air bags that deploy unintentionally during a crash increase the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are BOL, WO9, OOA, WOM, XOH, NOC, POD, BOE, UOF, POB, EOG, AOI, QO8, TOJ, DO7, and SOK. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V064. 3. Equipment, other, owners/service/other manualNov 16, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. The owners guide in these vehicles may not have been included or if included, the owner's guide may not have been properly provided required information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

If the information is missing or improper, it can increase the risk of injury or a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the owners information kit, free of charge. The recall began January 9, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O3A.

  4. Steering, electric power assist systemSep 27, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.

The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

  5. Air bagsApr 26, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.

  6. Power train, driveline, driveshaftNov 9, 2017

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.

The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E.

  1. Electrical system, Service brakes, Sep 28, 2026

I was sitting in my car with it turned off. About 1.5 minutes after it being off the electric parking brake engaged, which is not normal and I wasn’t parked on a hill. I turned on my car after hearing the E-brake engage. The dash board showed “Electric Parking Brake Problem” & the E-Brake dashboard display was flashing as well(I have a video but video is not an option for uploading). The alert magically disappeared as well.

  2. Electrical system, Service brakes, Sep 25, 2026

The car failed to turn on and the brake pedal froze in a locked position. The warning lights flashed on the dash indicating a system failure of the brakes. This is a known safety issue with this vehicle but not acknowledged by the manufacturer.

  5. Service brakes, May 15, 2025

The issue I’m having is that the break red light in the orange brake system just appears randomly without me activating the break. on one occasion I parked the car without seeing any of those signals, then upon me coming out of the store, both signals appeared on the dashboard. my car was stuck in break four hours. After continuously, activating the electronic brake and inactivating it I was able to drive home. I am currently driving day two with both signals flashing on my dashboard. The wheels are rolling and not dragging so I’m not sure what’s going on. This is a safety hazard for not only myself or family, but for other drivers on the road because if this decides to just stop in the middle of the road activating the brakes I’m going to be in trouble and hopefully not life threatening trouble.

  14. Steering, Electrical system, Service brakes, Feb 23, 2021

MY CAR ALARM RANDOMLY STARTED GOING OFF WHILE PARKED FOR THREE DAYS, THREE DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED BACK TO BACK AT 2AM WHILE PARKED. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF WITH MY KEY FOB AND IT WOULD NOT REGISTER. I OPENED THE CAR WITH THE KEY IN THE FOB AND PUSHED THE START BUTTON, THE ENGINE STARTED AND I REMAINED PARKED. THEN I TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF, INSTEAD THE LIGHTS FLICKERED ON THE DASH AND THE CAR STAYED ON. I TRIED IT 2 MORE TIMES AND IT FINALLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE BUT NOT THE DASH. ALL THE WARNING SIGNS CAME ON THE CAR INCLUDING A BREAK SYSTEMS ERROR AND A TIRE PRESSURE ERROR. AFTER THIS, I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT OF MY FOB AND NOW THE CAR BATTERY IS DEAD. I POWERED UP THE BATTERY TODAY BUT THE CAR WON'T START. THE DASH TURNS ON BUT THEN IT JUST FLICKERS AND GIVES ME ALL THE SAME WARNING SIGNS. I FOUND THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE ON 2016 CIVICS AND THAT THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO 2017 AND 2018 CIVIC AS WELL. MINE IS A 2017 CIVI AND IT'S HAVING ALL THESE ISSUES THAT COULD BE DEADLY IF THEY HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY.

  15. Service brakes, Fuel/propulsion system, Feb 11, 2021

STARTED DRIVING WHEN SEVERAL WARNING LABELS CAME ON THAT INCLUDED BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, EMISSION SYSTEM FAILURE, HILL ASSIST FAILURE, AND POWER STEERING PROBLEM ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND BLOCK USING BRAKES, NORMAL POWER, RUNNING FINE. GOT INTO DRIVE WAY BRAKES NOT WORKING ALMOST RUNNING INTO GARAGE DOOR. SHUT OF CAR, UNPLUG BATTERY, AND WAIT TO RESET COMPUTER. PLUG BATTERY BACK ON WORK FOR 4 DAYS THEN DID IT AGAIN. LUCKY I WASNT DRIVING FASTER AND THERE WASN'T A CHILD IN FRONT OF CAR WHEN BRAKES QUIT WORKING. SOME ONE IS GOING TO GET RUN OVER IF THIS COMPUTER/ SOFTWARE IS NOT FIXED. IT SHOULDN'T COME TO THAT.

  16. Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Jun 19, 2020

THE HONDA SENSING BRAKE SYSTEM SEEMS TO MORE ANNOYING THAN HELPFUL. EVEN ADJUSTING THE DIFFERENT SENSOR LENGTHS ISN'T HELPING. OFTEN, THE CAR STARTS TO BRAKE WHEN IT IS NOT NEEDED. A FEW DAYS AGO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME DECIDED TO MAKE A U-TURN AT A LEFT TURN ARROW THAT SAID NO U-TURNS. MY CAR DECIDED TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES BECAUSE THEY WERE A LITTLE IN THE WAY. IT GETS WORSE: I COULD NOT OVERRIDE THE BRAKES WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PETAL TO MOVE FORWARD AFTER THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF THE WAY. I WAS STUCK IN PLACE FOR LONGER THAN NECESSARY. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME! I DON'T MIND IF THE SENSING SYSTEM NOTIFIES ME WITH BEEPS, BELLS, AND WHISTLES. JUST DON'T BRAKE FOR ME! *TR

  17. Service brakes, May 20, 2020

THIS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES IN THREE YEARS. SUDDENLY AN ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP SAYING "ELECTRICAL PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM". THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT WENT AWAY AFTER I FIDDLED WITH ELECTRICAL PARKING AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WENT AWAY. THE THIRD TIME, COULDN'T START THE CAR AS THE BRAKE PAD DOESN'T MOVE AT ALL. CAR WAS STATIONARY AND IT HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT. *TR

  19. Service brakes, Feb 17, 2020

AFTER PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY, PLACING THE PARKING BRAKE ON, TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND EXISTING THE VEHICLE, MY PARKING BRAKE GAVE OUT ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER. MY CAR ROLLED DOWN MY SHORT DRIVEWAY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS CLOSE BY, HOPPED IN THE MOVING CAR AS IT REACHED MY STREET AND MANUALLY PUSHED DOWN THE BRAKE. AS I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE PARKING BRAKE SIGNAL SHOWED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS STILL ENGAGED. IT APPEARS THE PARKING BRAKE IS DEFECTIVE. THE PARKING BRAKE SHOULD NOT (AND CANNOT) RELEASE. EVER. IF I WERE PARKED ON A PUBLIC STREET, I COULD HAVE HARMED ANOTHER VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN.

  20. Electrical system, Service brakes, Feb 13, 2020

DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY SPEED AND THE CAR BRAKES ABRUPTLY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT RUSH HOUR, THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED A PILE-UP. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN FRONT OF A SEMI, I MIGHT BE DEAD. I MOVED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO THROTTLE CONTROL. THE CAR REGAINED THROTTLE RESPONSE AFTER ABOUT 45 SECONDS.

  21. Electrical system, Electronic stability control (ESC), Service brakes, Jan 12, 2020

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR WILL PUT THE BRAKES ON IF ANOTHER CARE PASSES ME ON DRIVERS SIDE. THIS DID IT FOR A FEW WEEKS, THEN THE COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND WILL NOT CLEAR. CRUISE WILL NOT WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, BUT NEVER WITH LIGHT STAYING ON.

  22. Electrical system, Service brakes, Nov 4, 2019

THE CAR BRAKE STOP WORKING WHEN THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY UPON GETTING OFF THE HIGH ON A RAMP THE BRAKES FROZE I WASNT ABLE TO APPLY BRAKES FOR ABOUT 40 SECONDS BECAUSE IT BECAME STIFF . THAT'S WHEN THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON . 24. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Dec 3, 2018

THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL RANDOMLY AND TAKE UP TO A FEW HOURS TO RESTART. THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM IN THE CENTER STACK HAD TO BE FULLY REPLACED DUE TO BUTTONS BEING PUSHED BY THEMSELVES. LASTLY, EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE SIGN ON DASHBOARD BUT BRAKE WAS WORKING FINE.
