When driving highway speeds (50-70 MPH) the steering wheel feels "notched" between 11 and 1 positions. This will cause me to oversteer in making minor adjustments. The problem is more consistent in daytime traffic with the temperatures at the hottest. In morning commutes, the issue arises about 15 minutes into the commute. Looking at online forums there have been many instances of other drivers experiencing the same problem however most could not have the issue resolved due to licensed dealers not fixing the faulty device but instead saying this is a compliant design.

The problem I have is with the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) rack on my 2018 Honda Civic Si. My safety is at risk because the EPS rack causes the steering wheel to stick at the 12-o clock position while driving in ambient temperatures above 60F. The vehicle is difficult to keep driving straight, and the sticking causes me to have to jerk the wheel from side to side to overcome the sticky spot. This is a common issue on 10th and 11th Gen Hondas and Acuras. My vehicle has not been inspected yet by Honda as they would charge me to diagnose the issue, or simply deny any problem exists. I am a shadetree/at-home mechanic who has determined this issue from my own research and mechanical knowledge. The symptoms first appeared 1 year ago during the summer after I bought the car.
Steering, Jun 8, 2024
Steering feels rough. When traveling down highway, resistance is felt when trying to make steering adjustments right or left. The pressure required to make adjustments causes the car to weave, as each adjustment right or left requires pressure to overcome resistance. I also have had steering bump against my input going around a corner. This is a dangerous defect and is well documented. Honda should recall these defective electronic steering units.
Other or unspecified, Jun 8, 2024
AC is not cooling. There was a recall last year (2023) for the A/C Compressor Shaft Seal Leak. I got it fixed by the Gardena dealership in California, but the issue has returned. When I turn on the A/C it makes an odd noise almost like a hissing noise. I no longer turn it on.

When merging over left to right my steering wheel seems to stick like a magnet is pulling it. I've taken it to 2 different shops and they say that "it's the electronic rack and pinion. Nothing to be fixed as this is normal." What I see here is a safety issue because when the steering wheel releases from the "magnet" it makes me feel like over correcting my turn because it pulls hard to whichever direction it's being pulled.
Engine, Jun 6, 2024
Loss of power during drive. Hesitation while acceleration and check engine light on. Unable to accelerate. Fuel pump recall on other same generation models.
Fuel system, Gasoline, Engine, Jun 5, 2024
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle entered LIMP Mode and lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #3. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 175,000.
Other or unspecified, Engine, Jun 4, 2024
Infant mortality of the entire AC system due to faulty components. Cost of repair is $3000+. It is a common, systemic failure on this generation of Honda Civic. Lack of AC in hot regions can lead to unsafe mold growing in the vents as well as heat related illness potentially leading to death. This is a highly hazardous failure with a high likelihood of occurring, so it is unacceptable to allow this situation to continue without a full recall or reimbursement by Honda.
Steering, Jun 4, 2024
While the wheel is centered and moving, primarily at highway speeds, the steering feels sticky in the sense where making slight corrections to the left or right causes over correction. While centered the wheel has a “hump” to overcome before steering input is registered at the wheels.
Steering, Jun 4, 2024
Over the past few months, I have noticed the steering wheel "sticking" while driving. It occurs most frequently on trips longer than 30 minutes or on trips at highway speeds (55+ mph) for any amount of time. The steering sticks at the 12 position and requires extra force to move it to the 11 or 1 positions. This makes it difficult to make micro-adjustments when driving straight or on slightly curved roads without wrenching the steering wheel in a way that causes the car to swerve or move further than expected/needed. The problem has been reproduced by the dealership McGovern Honda in Boston. The dealership expects the problem to become worse. The manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle or component, nor have the police or insurance agents. There were and are no warning messages or errors. The problem first became noticeable in February/March 2024.
Fuel/propulsion system, May 31, 2024
I believe the dealer/manufacturer has failed to remedy the fuel pump module improperly molded impeller in a timely manner. On [XXX] and [XXX] I had incidents of my vehicle's engine being prevented from starting. An independent mechanic stated that this was likely related to my vehicle's fuel pump recall. I contacted Honda customer service shortly after the [XXX] incident by telephone and I was told that unless a Honda mechanic diagnosed my issue as definitively related to the fuel pump, there was no recourse to expedite the repair. I was not assured that there would be no diagnostic charge associated with the inspection by a Honda repair person. Following the [XXX] incident, I contacted Nucar Honda in Norwood, MA to attempt to expedite the repair for my vehicle. I was told to bring in the vehicle several days later. The week of April 16 I brought the vehicle in and was told I would need to pay a diagnostic charge if they did not find a fuel pump issue in my vehicle, which is not what the recall specialist had said. I left and following consultation with the recall specialist the next day, I returned with my vehicle in hopes of expediting the recall repair for my vehicle. At that point and following my additional calls on [XXX] and in the following days, I was told that the safety recall repair parts were still not readily available and would likely be ready "at the end of the summer" or "best case scenario at the end of July." As I have contacted Honda and the local dealership since the end of January/beginning of February 2024 for a safety recall repair that is estimated to be available only half a year later, this is outside what is noted by the NHTSA as a reasonable amount of time. Steering, May 31, 2024
Beginning about early February 2024, the steering of this vehicle became "sticky" at certain speeds. More specifically, above about 40 MPH the steering wheel will almost lock into place and resistance is felt when the driver attempts to turn the steering wheel in a different direction. Yes, I consent to an inspection by Honda or NHTSA representatives upon request. The described condition 1) can cause the driver to concentrate on the condition, and 2) can cause the driver to over-compensate when they turn the wheel from the sticky/stuck wheel position while driving. Yes, the condition was described to a local Honda dealer on February 11, 2024 (I have a copy of their report - which I have uploaded with this writing). While their diagnosis isn't shown on that report, the dealer verbally advised this writer that the problem I described was identified and the dealer provided me an estimate to replace a steering mechanism for a price of about $2,970. The dealer advised there was no recall on this vehicle for this problem. I later called Honda and was told the same thing. No, there were no warning lights or vehicle messages, or notifications from Honda, about this condition. As noted previously, the condition appeared about early February 2024.

Fuel/propulsion system, May 26, 2024
I was first informed that there was a recall (23V-858) on my 2018 Honda Civic for a fuel pump module back in December 2023. When no information came from Honda as to when the dangerous problem would be repaired, I was informed by the dealership that the repairs could start as early as April of 2024. It is now the end of May and there still no word on when the Honda dealer will have the parts to repair the defect. It has been 6 months since the recall with no further information nor cooperation from Honda on when this issue will be resolved.
Steering, May 24, 2024
Car has rough steering inputs when making small corrections in a left only turn when traveling over 45 mph. The initial input to the left is smooth however when adjusting the wheel to the right to make a correction the wheel will get stuck and then have a jerk or rough correction which can cause large unwanted correction, especially at higher speeds. This issue is most likely the EPS failing in some way.
Fuel/propulsion system, May 24, 2024
This is in regards to the open recall on my vehicle. The dealership is not able to perform the repair because they say they do not have enough replacement parts from Honda. They're only accepting customers who are experiencing a problem to do the repairs. This is unacceptable for a recall. I shouldn't have to wait til my car breaks, and potentially crash, in order to get a recall issue repaired. The recall number is NHTSA#: 23V-858 MFR#: MGL / 23V-858

I was first informed that there was a recall on my 2018 Honda Civic for a fuel system problem back in December 2023. When no information came from Honda USA as to when the dangerous problem would be repaired, I was told by the dealership that the repair would be completed at the latest by April. It is now the end of May and there still no word on when the Honda dealer will have the parts to repair the defect. The contact stated Honda finally fixed the 2018 Civic's faulty fuel pump.

vehicle has stalled or almost stalled several times. Twice almost resulting in what could have been a fatal accident. we received the recall letter a few months ago and have waited for the repair. last week received another letter basically stating the same thing with no timeline or actual schedule at all in sight. have called the dealerships and they have no information (actually wanted me to bring in the car for a "diagnosis" at a cost to me to tell me what we all already know....ridiculous. How do I get this fixed before it turns into something fatal? in the meantime no offer of replacement or rental vehicle is out there. How do we get this expedited? already several months have passed with no solution. Help
