HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2004 CR-V; MODEL YEAR 2003 THROUGH 2005 PILOT; AND MODEL YEAR 2002 AND 2003 CIVIC VEHICLES. IN MARCH 2012, HONDA FILED A DEFECT REPORT TO RECALL CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2004 CR-V AND CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003 PILOT VEHICLES. IN AUGUST 2012, HONDA INFORMED THE AGENCY THAT IT WAS INCLUDING AN ADDITIONAL 820,789 VEHICLES INCLUDING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004 AND 2005 PILOTS AND MODEL YEAR 2002 AND 2003 CIVICS. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VEHICLES BEING RECALLED IS NOW 1,375,217. DUE TO TENSION FROM THE COMBINATION SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, WEAR ON THE SURFACE OF THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL CAN OCCUR, YIELDING COPPER OXIDE, WHICH INCREASES ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE. INCREASED ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE MAY CAUSE THE TERMINAL ENDS TO MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR.

IF THE TERMINAL ENDS MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE, REDUCING DRIVER VISIBILITY AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE LOW BEAM TERMINAL HARNESS OR REPLACE THE LIGHTING SWITCH AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE ORIGINAL RECALL BEGAN IN APRIL 2012. OWNERS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE SEPTEMBER 2012 EXPANSION WILL BE NOTIFIED IN SEPTEMBER 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

  2. Structure, Nov 29, 2007

I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE SRS SYSTEM CHECKED BECAUSE THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER DID A 40 POINT INSPECTION WHICH RESULTED IN THE RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT DUE TO A "FAILURE" IN THE SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THE MOUNTS (FRONT, SIDE AND BACK) FAIL ON THE HONDA ODYSSEY'S (NEWER MODELS, OURS IS AN '03) OFTEN. THE RESULT OF MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE IS EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE ENGINE WHEN UNDER "LOAD." I WAS TOLD THAT MEANS THE ENGINE MOVES WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DURING BRAKING, SHARP TURNS, BUMPS AND ACCELERATION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ONCE ONE MOTOR MOUNT "BREAKS" THE OTHERS HAVE MORE TENSION AND WILL ALSO FAIL. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE PART BE REPLACED BEFORE THE OTHER MOTOR MOUNTS FAIL AND CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS. THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT A RECALL OR FREE LIFETIME WARRANTY. OUR LOCAL HONDA MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS SHOULD NEVER FAIL (ESPECIALLY ON SUCH A NEW CAR). HE SAID MOTOR MOUNTS SHOULD OUTLAST THE ENGINE/CAR AND HE HAD NEVER IN ALL OF HIS EXPERIENCE SEEN A MOTOR MOUNT FAIL. *TR

ON TWO OCCASIONS MY 2003 HONDA CRV BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN FOLLOWING AN INITIAL ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON WAS ON, BUT HAD NOT BEEN ACTIVATED. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO BRAKING, TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON OFF, ETC. FOR EIGHT FULL SECONDS THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER MY SPEED CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CERTIFIED HONDA DEALER SAID THERE WAS A NEWS BULLETIN ABOUT IT ON HONDA'S WEB SITE (BUT WOULD NOT SHARE IT WITH ME) AND TOLD ME TO GO TO THE HONDA DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE, FAILED TO SHARE ANY BULLETINS WITH ME, STATING THESE INFO WAS FOR THE DEALERS ONLY. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ACCELERATION WAS DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS IN THESE 2003 CRV'S AND IT IS A MISREAD WITH THE COMPUTER AND THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, BUT TO TAKE IT TO THEM AGAIN IF I FELT IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM. I CONTACTED HONDA DIRECTLY TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY INFORMATION AND STATED THAT SINCE IT TECHNICALLY WAS NOT A RECALL, THEY DID NOT HAVE TO SHARE ANY INFORMATION WITH ME NOR DID THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO KNOW ABOUT IT IN ORDER TO SAVE LIVES. I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE NARROWLY DIVERTED DISASTER. I HAVE LOST TRUST IN THE RECALL PROCESS. VEHICLE: 2003 HONDA CRV WITH 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSIMISSION. ON JANUARY 23, 2007 DURING NORMAL DRIVING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE SYMPTOM OF THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE VEHICLE POPPED OUT OF THE GEAR THAT IT WAS ENGAGED IN WITHOUT ANY WARNING . THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE OPERATOR WAS ABLE GET THE CAR INTO 2 GEAR ONLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT REMAINED FOR TWO MONTHS WHILE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE FOLLOWINGWAS A LIST OF PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM: MANUAL CLUTCH, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, PRESSURE PLATE AND CLUTCH CABLES. *AK TH OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO DO WITH THE THRUST BEARINGS AND THRUST WASHERS BEING WORN AND IT WOULD REQUIRE THE SHORT BLOCK TO BE REPLACED. ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED AT A HONDA DEALER. HONDA HAD TO ENGAGE A HONDA CERTIFIED TECH TO REVIEW THE VECHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.

THE VEICLE LANDED IN THE ENTRY WAY OF THE BUSINESS SMASHING ALL GLASS. SHE COULD NOT BRAKE SHE WAS TRAPPED IN THIS VAN.SHE SAID IT LOST ALL POWER SHE HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE TRYING TO STOP. NOTHING WORKED THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEICHLE ANYMORE. THANK GOD NOBODY WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE VAN IS UNDER INVESTGATION NOW. STEERING WHEEL LOCKING MECHANISM IS DEFECTIVE AND DROPS UNEXPECTEDTLY IN MY 03" HONDA CRV. REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO HONDA CORP AND I AM AWAITING TO SEE IF IT WILL BE COVERED BY THEM. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER BACK I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS SAFETY CONCERN IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY HONDA CORP PROMPTLY AND I AM NOT ALLOWING MY WIFE AND SMALL CHILD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR WILL COST A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX, MY EXPENSE I WAS TOLD. WHEN THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TILT WHEEL LOCKING SYSTEM FAILS - THIS IS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN - ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS IN A SUV.

  24. Fuel system, Gasoline, Nov 28, 2006

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER BEEN PARKED FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME, A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL WAS NOTICED. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, A HOLE WAS NOTICED NEAR THE BACK SEAT, WHICH WAS LOCATED ABOVE THE GAS TANK AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO TESTED THE VEHICLE TO FIND THE FAILURE CODE READING "AUXILIARY EMISSION CONTROL EVAPORATION, GAS LEAK". THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT THE PHYSICAL LEAK TO BE SHOWN WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. THE CONTACT SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP THE POSSIBILITY OF THE LEAK COMING FROM THE OUTLET HOSE FROM THE TANK TO THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH COULD EASILY BE REMOVED WITH THE FINGER TIPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO DETERMINED IT WAS AN ISOLATE FAILURE, AND WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE FAILURE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS MANUFACTURER DEFECT.

  25. Air bags, Seat belts, Nov 25, 2006, crash

I WAS HIT HEAD-ON BY A MID-SIZED SEDAN WHICH DRILLED MY LICENSE PLATE BACK TO THE FIREWALL. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, DESPITE THE SPEED (ME 45, HER 20) AND THE DRIVER'S SHOULDER HARNESS FAILED TO RESTRAIN ME. I CRUSHED THE STEERING COLUMN WITH MY CHEST AND HAD TO BE REMOVED WITH THE JAWS OF LIFE. HONDA SENT A TECHNICIAN WHO DECLARED A FAULTY SEATBELT AND FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED OVER $15,000 DAMAGE, WAS FULLY REPAIRED, ALTHOUGH MY INSURANCE PAID FOR IT, NOT HONDA. I SUSTAINED MULTIPLE SOFT-TISSUE INJURIES, BROKEN RIBS AND A DISLOCATED SHOULDER. I CONTINUE WITH THERAPY ALMOST THREE YEARS LATER. *NM
