  5. Steering, electric power assist systemSep 27, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.

The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

  1. Steering, Jun 9, 2025

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was sticky. The contact stated that upon using excessive force to turn the steering wheel, the steering wheel jerked while turning to the intended direction. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with steering gear box internal failure due to magnet dislodgement. The dealer determined that the steering gear box assembly needed to be replaced, and an alignment needed to be performed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,500.

  2. Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Jun 9, 2025

June 2, 2025 –Started slowing for stoplight and left turn. Car again was not slowing down as expected when braking so I pressed harder on the brake pedal. It slowed down then but I didn’t go to a complete stop because traffic was moving. Instead, I let the car creep a bit while waiting for an opening to turn left. I then drove a couple of blocks to a 4-way stop where the revving started again when the car came to a full stop. I put it into Park, and it went to 8000 RPM. I turned it off and back on—again back to 8000 RPM. Wouldn’t come out of Park. Turned off again and back on—same thing. Turned off and took my foot off of the brake. The car lurched forward quite a bit before stopping—guess the Parking gear took hold then. I started the car again, and the RPM was normal. This is the second occurrence. Occurred first time in late June, 2024. - Braking and speed control affected - Car trying to accelerate when applying brake can lead to accident harming me and potentially others - Problem has occurred three times over the past year - Vehicle was checked and diagnostics run by dealership in July, 2024. Nothing found, was not able to recreate the scenario. No diagnostics available. - No warnings, messages, or other symptoms other than car not slowing as expected. Took car back to dealership on 6/6/2025 who reminded me that they didn't find anything last time. Am taking it to different dealer for a check this time.

  3. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Jun 7, 2025

I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding persistent electrical issues with my 2018 Honda CR-V (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle has recently experienced multiple warning lights turning on simultaneously, including brake, VSA, and TPMS. After inspection, I was informed that the issue may be related to the battery or sensor systems, even though the vehicle has not experienced any incidents or misuse. I would like to emphasize that this is a well-known issue reported by many 2018 CR-V owners, as evidenced in online forums, service bulletins, and consumer complaints. It is extremely frustrating to be responsible for repair costs for what appears to be a design or manufacturing flaw. Additionally, I visited a local Honda dealership for diagnosis, but I was given no explanation regarding the cause of the problem and was simply asked to pay for service. I found this experience to be highly unprofessional and upsetting, especially considering the seriousness of the issue and my loyalty to the brand. Given the potential safety risks and the common nature of this problem, I respectfully request that Honda consider my case for goodwill repair coverage or reimbursement. I am also aware of an open fuel pump recall (Campaign: 24-007:6FE00) on this vehicle, and would like to confirm that any and all necessary service campaigns are addressed. Please let me know how to proceed, or if you require additional documentation. Thank you for your time and understanding. 4. Steering, Jun 6, 2025

My steering wheel gets "sticky" at highway speeds. For instance: At 55 MPH I take a slight turn or curve to the left. The steering wheel does not return as it normally should. It seems stuck. It takes a definite firm pull back to the right. It has recently gotten worse. My dealer says there is nothing they can do other than a $4,500 repair. My wife is the main driver of this car and is very afraid the car is unsafe. My dealer said he called Honda to inquire about "goodwill assistance " for me. They told him due to the age and mileage there was nothing they can do. It is a 2018 Honda CRV - with 86k miles. Given the importance of steering I am afraid this car is unsafe to drive. We feel certain there should be a recall on such an important part. Thank you.

  5. Steering, Jun 6, 2025

Steering Safety Complaint – 2018 Honda CR-V (Sticky/Resistant Steering) This is to formally document a persistent safety defect in my 2018 Honda CR-V. The steering is continually sticky and fails to return to center smoothly, requiring ongoing corrections and posing a safety hazard. This issue exactly matches the symptoms in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000, though my vehicle is not included in the recall. Honda informed me that only vehicles from specific manufacturing locations are covered—even though many 2018 CR-Vs are reporting identical problems. According to [XXX], over 150 steering-related complaints exist for the 2018 CR-V, and your own organization is currently investigating more than 532,000 Honda and Acura vehicles for similar steering issues. I contacted both a local Honda dealer and Honda Headquarters. Both advised me to visit a Honda service center for a paid inspection. My mechanic already diagnosed the issue and quoted $3,000–$4,000 for a full steering column replacement. There is no assurance Honda will assist with these costs, but an expanded recall will increase the chances of reimbursement. This complaint should be included in the NHTSA investigation, as it clearly demonstrates that the steering defect impacts vehicles beyond those currently recalled. 6. Steering, Jun 5, 2025

My power steering rack needs replacing. When I turn my steering wheel to the left it sticks and I have to pull it back right to go straight again. I took it to my local Honda dealer and they stated the steering rack needs replacing but it is not listed under recall from September 18, 2018, where other CRVs had steering issues. It is dangerous to drive and Honda isn't willing to help or stand by their product defects.

  7. Steering, Wheels, Jun 5, 2025

During a full turn to the right that car applied to a opposite side very hard. same situation was recall on 2018 NHTSA ID: 18V663000

  8. Steering, Jun 5, 2025

The steering in the steering column feels "sticky." I see that Honda issued a recall on some VINs for my vehicle, but not my specific one. Even Honda says it is a dangerous problem that can cause a serious accident. But they refuse to do anything about it for my VIN even though I am having the exact problem they described. I have been quoted a ridiculous amount to fix it. Honda is clearly prioritizing money over safety by not issuing a recall.

  9. Steering, Suspension, Jun 4, 2025

This issue occurs daily and has progressively worsened. Even with Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) turned off, there is noticeable resistance in the steering wheel. It happens at all speeds, but it's especially noticeable—and potentially dangerous—at higher speeds. The resistance is most apparent when turning the wheel to the right while the steering wheel is still positioned to the left of center. At the same time, it often makes a creaking or rubbing noise. Additionally, at lower speeds—such as during U-turns or in parking lots—I experience resistance and the same noise when re-centering the wheel after turning fully to the left. However, I don’t notice the issue when re-centering from a full right turn.

  10. Steering, May 30, 2025

The car developed "sticky steering" when turning either left or right, and became very difficult to maneuver especially when returning back to center. Highly unreliable and unsafe to drive. I took the car to service department and they concluded that the steering gear box is the issues, where the "gears are disintegrating". The car only has 40,262 miles on it. I had no other option but replacing the ESP gear box and getting an alignment done. As a result, I paid a total of $5,022.

  11. Steering, May 30, 2025

Steering wheel sticks when driving. There is a recall by honda but not my vin. I feel it is a safety hazard. Their motto is”safety #1 concern”. Don’t think so.

  12. Fuel system, Gasoline, May 30, 2025

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed one week after the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was contacted for reimbursement, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

  13. Steering, May 30, 2025

We have been having a problem with our steering wheel and have taken it to the dealership ,but they have been unable to replicate the issue with only test driving for several minutes. During a recent trip I experienced for 4 hours the steering wheel pushing left and right slightly like the lane assist was activated, which was not , but the steering was pushing me out of the lane almost causing a crash repeatedly during the trip. I had to keep both hands tight on the steering to maintain control of the vehicle . It felt like two magnets repelling each other creating a dangerous situation. This was at speeds over 70 mph on the highway. It was sporadic at slower speed. I saw a recall with the steering but ours was not listed .? This issue deserves investigation. My wife had reported this incident prior and has been occurring for months.

  14. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Engine, May 29, 2025

Driving i would lose all power like inwas out of gas. Would let it sit for a few minutes and it would run normally for a while then stall on the side of the road. Happened 2 times on the interstate and one on a back road.

  15. Vehicle speed control, Engine, May 29, 2025

Driving the car and it lasked power to drive.I could not accelerate. Check the codes code said it was a Turbo issue called dealership.Got an appointment. Dealership says it's the turbo and it's twenty seven hundred dollars to repair.

  16. Other or unspecified, May 29, 2025

Ever since I purchased this car, my air conditioning have had nothing but problems. Even though it was recalled once and was repaired another issue is the Discharge Hose leaking which is preventing my air conditioning from cooling the cabin. This has been an ongoing issue ever since I purchased the car. I have not done any excessive or off road driving which would cause the damage and I believe it is a manufacturer defect on Honda. I have attached the report from the Honda Service Department.

  17. Power train, Engine, May 29, 2025

Fuel injector failure, resulted in engine misfires, running fuel rich, and reduced power. Reduced power and loss of safety features such as anti-lock brakes, stability assist, ACC, AEB, FCA, and LKA the safety of myself and other drivers are negatively affected. My Honda Dealer and 3rd party shop diagnosed the issue. All warning lights started to appear in November 2024 and disappear intermittently.

  18. Other or unspecified, May 28, 2025

I was traveling with my family and had just entered [XXX] I suddenly felt like I hit something like bags of sand...but nothing was there. My brother in back seat said it felt like a bowling ball hit sunroof. I slid open the protective guard and noticed all the glass in sun roof was pebbled and shattered. There were no overpasses nearby...there was little traffic as it was [XXX]. Not sure what happened. My insurance doesnt want to cover as they feel manufacturers defect. There is mention of several class action suits in progress online for imploding sunroofs, but I received no notices. Honda denies any defect and says not their problem. 19. Fuel system, Gasoline, May 28, 2025

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

  20. Forward collision avoidance, May 23, 2025

Phantom braking problem. On a sunny day, I was driving 25:mph on a street that was being repaired. A steel plate was covering a hole. The system activated emergency braking, slamming on the brakes and flashing "brake" and beeping.

  21. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, May 23, 2025

In April 2025 my CRV had issues with acceleration. The speed reduced all of a sudden and car couldn't go more than 5 mph, so I took it to the repiar shop. The mechanic told me that cylinder #2 misfired. He replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil. A few days later after driving for a few miles "Stop driving when safe, engine temperature too Hot" sign came up. I stopped driving immidiately and got the car towed to the repair shop. After testing the car the mechanic told me that the head gasket leaked and the coolant is mixing with the lubricant. He told me that there is damage to the engine so the engine need to be replaced. I was driving with kids in the car and I believe it compromised the safety of my family when the speed came down all of a sudden on the road and the car stopped accelerating.

  22. Fuel/propulsion system, May 22, 2025

A fuel pump installed in my car on April 25 2025 due to the recall. The new fuel pump has rattled loose.

  23. Steering, Other or unspecified, May 22, 2025

The steering gearbox mechanism is faulty. It causes the steering to be jerky and unstable, having to constantly adjust steering. We took it to the Honda Dealership in Ft. Walton Beach, FL for evaluation. They indicate "the steering gearbox is faulty and would need a new rack to fix issue". Cost to repair is approximately $4600. An independent mechanic locally also confirmed the same issue and provided a Honda Service Bulletin 18-103 showing this was a recall on 2017-2018 CRVs. Cost for them to repair (due to cost of parts) is nearly $7,000. Honda says our VIN is not covered under the recall. The car has only 55,000 miles on it and the steering gearbox is failing. At the direction of the local dealership service manager, we created a case with Honda corporate but they have denied the request to repair under prior recall. Honda directed us to the NCDS to file a request for review. NCDS denies the review since the CRV is out of warranty. Honda knows this was an issue on the 2017-2018 CRV and it is a safety issue and they refuse to repair it. I don't feel safe driving the car as I don't know when the steering gearbox will ultimately fail.

  24. Fuel system, Gasoline, May 20, 2025

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH, and the emissions warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed that the turbo was consuming oil. The dealer confirmed there was no available appointment until June 2025 to repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer also informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

  25. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 20, 2025

Vehicle threw codes P0172 and P219e. Vehicle was sluggish and idled rough. All lights on the dash flashed and showed that most safety systems were disabled. Vehicle was taken to Honda service center and confirmed by the dealer. Dealer replaced the fuel injectors. Vehicle was less than a year out of warranty for this specific issue. This seems to be a common issue with this model of vehicle as the service center had the same model with the same issue that day.
