  5. Steering, electric power assist systemSep 27, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.

The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH with her pregnant daughter inside the vehicle, the vehicle jerked 3 times causing the vehicle to abruptly decelerate to 5 MPH. The contact stated that the emergency automatic braking, ABS, another braking system, traction control, tire pressure, steering wheel, an unknown warning light, the check engine, and two other unknown lights had illuminated. Upon attempting to depress the accelerator pedal, the vehicle revved aggressively; however, the speed failed to exceed 5 MPH. The contact was able to safely pull into a parking lot, where the vehicle was parked and restarted. Upon restarting the vehicle there was an abnormally long buffer until the vehicle started. Several unknown warning lights were displayed on the instrument panel and remained illuminated. The contact turned on the hazard lights, and drove to the residence; however, the vehicle almost stalled. The contact stated that the neighbor diagnosed the vehicle and found that there were two recalls related to the DTC codes displayed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed for a second time confirming the original diagnosis. The contact was advised that the fuel pump that caused the failure was the high-pressure fuel pump, and the dealer would not be able to cover the costs as the recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) did not include the repairs for the fuel pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

  7. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Nov 23, 2024

All warning lights appearing on the dashboard unexpectedly which then prevents the cruise control and other features from working. This issue comes and goes and makes it unsafe to drive. A new battery was installed but that did not solve the issue and no one has a solution. There are many websites stating this exact same problem. Different years and both CR-V and Pilots.

  8. Electrical system, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Nov 23, 2024

I have been having issues with my car abruptly stopping by itself. One example is when I was driving down the road with no one behind me and the car went from 40MPH to 0. The car behind me almost hit me. But MotorWorld's excuse to this was maybe this was because of the sun!!!!! I had called MotorWorld when this first started happening and they claimed they never heard of this happening before after bringing the car in to be looked at they kept asking if i was sure I wanted it to be looked at because with will cost me money if no codes show. I had it looked at and they told me it was my EZ-pass then it was my aftermarket window that I bought the car with (even though they found codes while troubleshooting). I eventually asked them to disable it, which they told me they couldn't. I found online that there is a button to disable it every time I get in the car. I had called Honda directly to file a complaint which the person told me to take it to get a second opinion. I told him I took it to a certified Honda dealer why would I have to take it anywhere else. I am still driving this unsafe car that stops by itself. I would have filed this a long time ago, but I was not aware of this reporting system. Thats why I reported it to honda who did nothing for me, but mislead me for months before I just gave up on them

  10. Steering, Nov 22, 2024

My CRV started having steering issues suddenly and started requiring additional steering effort. It was almost like it was catching and you would have to force the steering wheel in the opposite direction to release the "catch". This only occurs at speeds greater than about 40 miles per hour. I took my CRV to a Honda dealership and they assessed the vehicle and stated it was the EPS Steering Assembly that needed to be replaced. They reported that certain models of Honda vehicles have been recalled due to this issue. Today, I received notification that my spouses 2024 Honda CRV is being recalled due to reports of the same issue. The part was $2542.91 and the labor/install will be $1080.40. The part was ordered August 15, 2024 but has not arrived yet. My question is why certain models/years are being recalled when this is a bigger issue. This is a huge SAFETY ISSUE with Honda and puts lives at risk.

  13. Steering, Nov 21, 2024

This issue was first noticed July 1 2023 (55,000 miles). On warm or hot days, when steering to the left, the wheel will "stick" when trying to steer back straight. The bit of extra force needed to overcome this stick causes a jerk in the steering movement, which causes a safety issue as it often results in an oversteer. We did attempt to have it addressed during a service appointment, but the service tech did not detect this during the appointment. By late spring 2024, when the weather warmed again, the issue returned and was consistent and much more pronounced. There is no indication through warning lamps, and we have not had the vehicle inspected by police or insurance. This behavior matches what was reported in investigation EA23003, for later year (2023-2025) CR-V models, for which a recall was issued. We would like to see earlier CR-V models added to this investigation and recall.

The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

  16. Engine, Nov 19, 2024

On 10/28 I received a phone call from my son stating he was trying to head home when he left his parking spot and the car would no go over 10 mph and all system alerts came on. He drove the car a couple yard and then parked it. I told him to stay there and I’d be there in 10 mins. He called a few minutes later to say the car was now acting fine. I told him to stay there because we would take the car to the dealership and leave it to be checked out the next day. I have made multiple attempts to get the fuel pump replaced to no avail. I keep being told by the dealership that the part is not available and they would call when it becomes available. I have called at least four different times to address this issue. My son drives this car down a four lane highway with a speed limit of 60mph. It has been concerning to me that the fuel pump may fail and a tractor trailer may come upon him and cause a crash due to the lag of our vehicle. I have also taken the car to the dealership and left it overnight because all the alerts come on and cycle through. I receive a call the next day from the dealership who is unable to recreate the issue. As a result of the recall and cycling of system messages, I believe the fuel pump to be the issue since symptoms aligned with the recall. I was informed two days later the issue was the head gasket and I was informed it would be better to replace the entire engine. I’ve since read all of the concerns with the 1.5 liter turbo engines and believe the faulty design created this safety hazard. I submitted a case to Honda on 10/30 and have been contacting them since in an effort to resolve the issue. On Thursday 11/14 I asked that the case be escalated and have yet to have anyone from Honda contact me. I have contacted them at least 10 times over the past three weeks with absolutely no response.

  20. Other or unspecified, Nov 15, 2024

I received the "Important Safety Recall" notice in May 2024. I immediately called my Honda Dealer and was told that parts were on order, and I would be notified when available, however, the approximate date for resolution was in the Fall. I have called 4 times and received the same answer. Here we are in November 2024 and still no resolution. I am always asked if my vehicle is stalling, hesitating or loss of drive power, or wait for my vehicle to burst into flames potentially causing serious injury or possible death. I am very concerned about the safety issues this could cause. I very frequently have my young grandchildren in my vehicle. I don't understand the alleged shortage of parts...aren't new vehicles manufactured all the time? Do they not require fuel pumps? Thank you for your assistance with my safety concern.

  21. Fuel system, Gasoline, Nov 15, 2024

    See attached document for complaint.

  22. Other or unspecified, Nov 13, 2024

I have a recall notice on this vehicle from December 2023 almost 2 years ago. The notice tells me to contact the dealer for the fuel pump recall. However, every time I call the dealer they tell me parts are not available. When can I expect Honda to fix the problem? No one has contacted me to fix this recall. I have had difficulty starting the car on a couple of occasions and I am worried about my family's safety when using the car.

  23. Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 12, 2024

During December 2023 , news agencies, Honda, & the NHTSB reported CRV fuel pump module may have an improperly molded impeller. Should this part malfunction, the vehicle obviously shuts down immediately losing power steering, braking, and other vital functions. I was initially told by the local Honda dealer that replacement parts were anticipated in August 2023. I received notice from Honda in May 2024 stating limited replacement parts were available and would be utilized for vehicles experiencing malfunction. In July I again contacted the Honda dealership inquiring as to when remaining vehicles could expect repair & was told they had been informed October 2024. I called Honda Corporate customer service this morning asking the same question & was given the same answer I rec'd back in July. It's now approaching 12 months since the recall was issued and multitudes of Honda owners are still forced to drive unsafe vehicles exposing themselves, family members, & other motorists to fatal accidents. Honda has not corrected this issue in a timely manner yet continues to manufacture & sell multitudes of new vehicles every day. Please use the agency's authority, even if Honda is required to halt production of new vehicles, & require Honda correct the issue immediately. If this issue isn't resolved soon, I plan to contact a U.S. Senator to review the issue. PS: we purchased a 2022 Honda CRV and have recently received a recall relative to potential fuel pump cracking & ensuing fire.
