Steering, electric power assist systemSep 27, 2018
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

Forward collision avoidance, Aug 6, 2024
While driving on a public roadway at about 20 mph I approached a large steel plate covering a trench, the brakes applied with maximum force and the dashboard BRAKE light came on. Luckily there were no vehicles close behind us. We could easily been hit from behind because of the severity of the stop. We had a similar incident on 05/042021 that we filed a complaint with the NHTSA #11416110. I spoke with Matt (service Rep) from Honda City and was told it was not covered by the warranty.

Forward collision avoidance, Aug 5, 2024
I was Driving down a small hill. The car alerted for a car near my vicinity. There was no car in front or adjacent to mine. However, the car suddenly came to a complete stop, without me engaging the brakes. It almost resulted in a serious collision with the car behind me.
Steering, Aug 5, 2024
The problem doesn't seem to appear until after I've been driving on the highway for an hour or so. When it does appear it manifests itself as a bind in the steering. For example, if I want to make a small adjustment - say to recenter the vehicle in the lane - the normal amount of pressure on the steering wheel does nothing. The wheel won't turn. If I apply more pressure then suddenly the steering wheel breaks free and turns a little more than I had intended. It sounds very similar, if not the same, as NHTSA Investigation: EA23003, but that one is for newer vehicles than mine.
Vehicle speed control, Aug 2, 2024
Started car. Pulling out of garage going forward. Pushed the cruise control button on steering wheel instead of radio volume button by accident. Car suddenly began to rapidly accelerate. Took me a second or two hit brake to stop car. Pushing brake did stop car. If you activate the cruise control with the car running and in drive at any speed under 20 mph the car will accelerate to 20 mph.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The local dealer had not been contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000. The VIN was not available.
Other or unspecified, Aug 1, 2024
The car would not turn off. It said that there was some sort of electronic key issue and after stopping the car and putting it in park the engine would not shut off. Hitting the stop button did nothing. With no option to basically render the car into a safe position I drove the car to the dealer. The dealer was surprised they looked at the car and basically diagnosed that the BCM had failed. It is surprising to me that the BCM and ignition control systems are designed to prevent turning off the engine in case of failure of one of the components. They charged me approximately $750 for replacing the BCM.
Forward collision avoidance, Jul 28, 2024
Without any warning, vehicle will brake with no traffic in sight, or whenever it decides the car needs braking. I'm afraid I am going to be rear ended at some point. This has happened several times since purchasing the vehicle.

Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 24, 2024
This car has not been in an accident and has been routinely maintained in accordance with Honda's recommended maintenance schedule. I went to turn on the car one day - nothing abnormal had happened - and I noticed that multiple (5+) warning lamps illuminated upon starting the car, including for the AWD system, power steering system, stability assist system, parking brake system, adaptive cruise control system, and others. This was on or around 1 June 2024; the car had approximately 25,000 miles on it at this time. The car appeared to drive normally. I took this to a dealership, which stated that their diagnostic computer had identified the fuel injectors on cylinders 2 and 3 as malfunctioning and running rich. I incurred approximately $2400 in replacement and repair costs at the dealership. My safety was not put at risk to my knowledge. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by a dealer. The vehicle and components were inspected by the dealership when diagnosing the problem; there were no manufacturer, police, or insurance representative inspections. The warning lamps were illuminated as above on approximately 1 June 2024.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the part was not available to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

The car aggressively braked without warning. The braking sensor activated even though there was no vehicle in front of me.
Steering, Jul 15, 2024
My 2018 honda crv electronic steering gearbox is faulty. I had honda dealership confirm the faulty part. The estimate is $3400 and on backorder. Explained to them there is a recall on this part for many Honda vehicles for exact problem. They said my vin number does not match for the recall. I contact honda of America, was issued a case number but they declined to assist in any to repair the faulty steering. I have researched via Google the many complaints on the and issue. A simple Google will pull up hundreds of same complaints. This is very dangerous as the steering sticks, intermittent locks, and car is very jerky, unsafe to drive. I'm second owner, 48k miles when purchased and now at 55k. I am asking to please have this looked into, issue a recall. I don't understand how some vehicles are covered and some are not. I understand vin may difference where or when manufacturing was complete, but my car has the same exact problem as so many other honda vehicles that are covered.
Steering, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 15, 2024
On [XXX], I parked on a slight incline at an open market. There was nothing wrong with the steering when I parked the car. It was dry and sunny. When I returned to the car an hour later, the power steering was out and all sensor lights were flashing: Hill Assist, lane assist, cruise control, brakes, tire pressure, emergency brake, and others I can't recall at this point. Someone was getting into their car next to mine and helped maneuver the car out of the spot so it could be towed. I am told by the dealer, the power steering rack needs to be replaced -- $4000. My car has 56K miles on it, has never been in an accident and has always and only been serviced by AutoNation Honda in Clearwater. There appears to be a recall on this part but when I enter my VIN, it indicates the recall doesn't apply to my car even though it's a recall on 2018 CRVs. The dealer indicates the part is backordered indefinitely and cannot provide timeline. I am waiting for Honda Good Will program to evaluate whether they will help with rental car and expense of repair. Meantime, I have no car and cannot conduct business or even evacuate if a hurricane comes through. It's been 2 weeks now with no help from the dealer. Forward collision avoidance, Jul 13, 2024
Left parking lot and started driving down the street. The "Brake" light flashed and peep sounded and the car stopped abruptly--a complete stop. There was no one in front of me; there was no reason for the "Brake" light to come on. Thank God no one was behind me as I would have been rear-ended. The car stopped so abruptly that no one would have been able to stop. After I calmed down, I was able to continue on with no further issues. Contacted the dealer Service Department immediately and was told no recall and that the radar had just picked up on something. This made no sense as I was the only one on the street at the time--no one coming toward me and no one behind me. Over the years of owning the car, there have been incidents where the "Brake" light flashed for no obvious reason. However, the car never stopped. I feel fortunate because this could have caused a serious accident. I am very concerned to be behind the wheel of such a vehicle. A recall is definitely warranted and SOON!
Forward collision avoidance, Jul 12, 2024
I was driving when I came upon a couple of metal plates on the road. I slowed a bit to go slower across them when my car slammed on the brakes, the brake orange light came on and beeped on the dash. There was a truck behind me that was luckily leaving enough space. I was jolted and everything fell off my passenger seat due to the aggressive sudden braking. If it had happened on a highway or the truck had been closer it would've been horrible.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle back if it stalled again because the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact refused to take the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired under the recall. The contact stated she was advised that she had 4 blown fuel injectors and that it was a safety issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but confirmed the contact had to pay out of pocket for the repair, and a case was opened. The contact stated that the dealer called and informed her that there was only one blown fuel injector and that it was not a safety issue. The contact agreed to pay to have the fuel injector repaired. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable.
