  8. Air bags, frontal, driver clockspring/spiral cassetteMay 21, 2019

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019 CR-V vehicles. The metal core of the steering wheel may have burrs which can damage the harnesses routed within, potentially disabling the driver's air bag or causing it to deploy without warning.

In the event of a crash, a disabled air bag would increase the risk of injury. An uncommanded deployment of the driver's air bag also increases the risk of injury and a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover on the steering wheel core and replace clockspring and the harnesses within, free of charge. The recall began July 8, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is R4S.

  4. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 31, 2025

My CRV 2019 EX Honda is losing power while drivng. It is very concerning since it is happening very often and it can reduce all of a sudden the speed while driving on a highway. I have to stop the car, turn off and then on again to continue. I went to see if there was a recall, but no recall for my car. They say I should change the gas cap but I am not sure that will solve the problem since I’ve heard it can be a software.

  5. Exterior lighting, Jan 31, 2025

I am filing a complaint regarding a premature failure of the LED turn signal on my 2019 Honda CR-V at only 81,000 miles. The turn signal is a critical safety component, and its failure presents a serious risk of accidents due to decreased visibility to other drivers. Unlike traditional bulbs that can be easily replaced, Honda’s LED turn signals require replacing the entire headlight assembly at a cost of $1,200.00, which is an unnecessary and expensive repair for a basic safety feature. The failure of an LED component at this mileage suggests a defective part that should be investigated. Given that turn signals are an essential part of vehicle safety, I believe Honda should issue a recall or provide an extended warranty for this defect. Safety Concerns: •The LED turn signal failed unexpectedly, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of an accident. •Unlike traditional bulbs, the LED failure requires an expensive full headlight replacement, making it inaccessible for many drivers to afford repairs. Requested Action: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and consider issuing a recall or safety bulletin to ensure Honda takes responsibility for fixing this problem. This is a serious safety concern, and I believe it is unfair for consumers to bear the high cost of replacing an entire headlight assembly for what should be a long-lasting LED component. I appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing this matter. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

  6. Steering, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jan 31, 2025

on [XXX] I was driving home with my wife & [XXX] baby, in what I would describe as standard wintery mix of weather - rain, but not yet cold enough to be snow. My 2019 CRV EX-L alerts me of the following message: "Some Driver Assist Systems Cannot Operate: Radar Obstructed" As I've had this car for years, I've seen this message pop before, but as I had no plans of using any Driver Assist features, i didn't think anything of it. At roughly [XXX], while driving on the highway, my Honda became 100% unresponsive to me as the driver. It locked the ability to steer the wheel or apply the brakes in any capacity. The vehicle completely usurped driving power & under its own power, began veering off the road at highway speeds. I could only look straight ahead and hope that when we crashed into the upcoming highway divider, my family wouldn't die. To confirm, i tried pumping brakes, holding down the brakes, touching - absolutely nothing worked - they were completely locked. The steering wheel locked as well, we were heading for certain death. This was going what felt for a lifetime, but after probably 5 - 10 seconds, i was able to gain steering control - and turned away from the light post we were destined to hit & was able to get us veered back on the highway. Conditions were wintery, and we swerved alongside another car lanes away. By the grace of God, my car and the other car, only slightly touched side view mirrors. We both pulled over and swapped information, but little actual damage was caused. With all of this said I want to make sure one thing is clear. Honda almost killed my entire family. They put us in danger for absolutely no reason. My Honda CRV overrode every possible human driver action - and had us on a direct path with death. If not for the grace of God - I wouldn't be able to write this message to you. We opened a case with Honda Case #[XXX] where they made me pay for a diagnostics test - however didnt properly inspect the issue imo INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  7. Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 30, 2025

In February 2024 we received a safety recall from Honda stating the fuel pump could prevent an engine from starting, cause a vehicle to lose drive power, or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. It has been a year and we have not received any notice of replacement parts. Honda is producing new cars but cannot correct a problem with a 2019 car?!!! It should not take a year to correct this problem. The car could stop while driving and cause a crash and injury.

  8. Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jan 30, 2025

Car automatically brakes when there is no obstacles and sometimes no other vehicles in roadway. Most of the time when approaching a bridge. Usually travelling at speeds above 50. Hasn't been inspected by dealer. This increases risk of rear end collision. The light saying to brake comes on prior to the brakes engaging. This has happened multiple times during ownership of this vehicle (purchased new). Most recent incident was within the last month or so. There is no indication of the cause. There are multiple other issues with this vehicle to include issues with the display screen, door seals, and poor interior, however those do not appear to cause issues of safety at this time.

  14. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jan 17, 2025

On [XXX] at [XXX], I was driving down the road - there were no vehicles in front of me. The sky was clear and the sun was bright. There are several trees whose limbs extend high above the roadway causing a shadow to be created beneath them. All of a sudden, the collision avoidance system activated on my car. The "BRAKE" light illuminated, the "chirping" sound associated with the "BRAKE" light activation occurred, and the brakes were instantly applied slowing me from 40 mph to about 15 mph. There was no impediment (vehicles, pedestrians, animals, etc.) in front of my car nor was there a car next to mine in an adjacent lane. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is this: the tree limbs overhead created a "shadow" on the roadway. This "shadow" was of enough contrast in brightness from the roadway, just prior to this incident, that the system concluded there was an obstruction of some type in front of my car. There was not another car behind me for about 100 feet or so, but had they been within the normal distance that driver's follow the car in front of them, I have no doubt the result would have been a rear-end collision. I have had several instances in the past where a contrast in reflected brightness of the roadway surface has activated the "BRAKE" light on my dashboard and the "chirping" sound associated with it. All but one have occurred along a particular stretch of [XXX] just west of [XXX] (specifically, it is on the ramp from southbound [XXX] to westbound [XXX] at about [XXX] ). The car is scheduled to be inspected on Monday, January 27, 2025 by my local Honda dealer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,238.

  17. Forward collision avoidance, Jan 13, 2025

Driving downtown seattle going through an intersection - green light - no pedestrians in walks - no oncoming or opposing traffic at the time. Uphill orientation. Doing about 25 mph. The system did a sudden and hard brake! This is the second time this has happened. First time was in a parking lot at low speed going over a speed bump and the passenger hurt their knee on the dash. It is clearly a problem and a serious hazard to all.

  18. Engine, Jan 8, 2025

As i was driving on the highway, and with no warning my engine just shut off. Without any warning ligts or anything. Car then started back up and was able to pull off the highway when again this time the engine light came on and then just seized. And would not turn back over. Luckily traffic was not moving very fast on the highway or a serious accident could have happened due to the engine shutting down. Vehicle has been in shop for 2 months and was just returned to me, with a lot of the engine having to be replaced.

  21. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jan 1, 2025

On 2 occasions in this past year 2024 I have had the emergency brake system completely stop the car suddenly without any cars being in front and behind. Both incidents were at night and both are caused when reflection happens or when I am driving over steel grates. This is a very critical issue as I can get hit from the rear or it can cause harm as the brake system is very fast.
