Recalls and investigations

  1. SteeringOct 3, 2024

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.

Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

  2. Tires, markingsJul 2, 2024

Honda (America Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 CR-V vehicles. The tire identification number (TIN) is missing the four-digit date code. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles."

An owner whose TIN information is missing may not recognize that their vehicle is involved in a safety recall and continue to drive on recalled tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the tires as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 27, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is BIS.

  1. Steering, Dec 3, 2023

The following investigations need to be expanded to include 2024 Honda CRVs also. I have experience identical issues. , The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE23-005) to access the alleged defect of momentary increase in steering effort in model years (MY) 2022 and 2023 Honda Civic vehicles. The complaints report that the momentary increase in steering effort (described as Investigation: EA23003 Open Resume Page 2 of 2 "sticky steering") occurs mostly at highway speeds after driving for a certain amount of time.

  2. Steering, Other or unspecified, Dec 3, 2023

The steering wheel seems to get stuck for a little bit and the release by itself, not fully stuck but feels like sticking and sometimes pushes my itself now this is with all the features off including lane departure and lane keep it’s feels like the power steering is failing, and the car also vibrates over 60 miles and makes noise when on a round about Turning left, the dealership is not helping.

  3. Steering, Dec 2, 2023

While driving, in particular on the highway, the steering wheel becomes suddenly stuck in its position. I am able to overcome the stickiness with a mild amount of effort. I currently have 5700 miles on my vehicle and it appears to be getting more noticeable over time. I have a call into the Honda dealer to have this issue addressed. I am waiting for them to call me back. I have received no warning from my vehicle that there is a problem with the steering.

  4. Steering, Dec 2, 2023

Steering wheel “sticks” -there is resistance in the steering and then it may release suddenly which may cause a jerking of the wheel to over correct. The car was purchased new and did not experience this problem initially, but it seems to have developed over time. The ‘sticking’ of the steering is really noticeable at higher speeds such as highway driving. This is a safety concern as it makes it more difficult to steer and potentially cause an accident. There are no warning lights on or any other indication of a problem on the dash. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer or manufacturer yet, but I plan on making an appointment soon. It has not been inspected by the police or an insurance rep. Yes, the car/steering is available upon request.

  5. Steering, Dec 1, 2023

my steering wheel is sticking while driving. It has not caused an incident yet, but is causing me to oversteer consistently as it takes too much resistance to overcome the stuck position when trying to make smooth steering movements especially around long slow curves. Even when going straight on multiple lane roads it is quite difficult to make small corrections to stay in my lane. It is bad enough that I will not allow my wife or daughter to operate the car until I have time to take it to the service department.

  6. Other or unspecified, Engine, Nov 27, 2023

I put my Honda CRV Hybid away in my garage while it was running on battery power. It is silent when not in gear and operating on battery power. The key fob was in the car. I forgot to shut off the power switch before getting out of the car. When the battery drained, the engine started, filling the garage with exhaust, creating an extremely dangerous, and perhaps life threatening condition.

  7. Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 25, 2023

Failure of evap system, ventilation valve causing fuel to spew out of gas tank upon fill. Occurred / failed multiple times.

  8. Visibility/wiper, Nov 22, 2023

Front passenger window exploded while driving early in the morning. 1000 miles on vehicle. Only owned for 2 1/2 weeks. No visible issues or scratches and no objects found in vehicle. Body damage from glass noted on the outside.

  9. Steering, Nov 20, 2023

The steering started sticking, jerking and making a popping noise about 5,000 miles and now at 6900 miles it is getting worse. When going straight it is the most noticeable as it feels like the steering binds and then when I adjust to the left or the right it frees up and jerks so that I have to overcompensate and then it jerks in the other direction. At speeds below 10 mph if I move the steering wheel left and right it makes a clunking sound. Randomly during a turn the steering sticks. All the above happens with the lane assist both on and off. When it got worse the dealer said it is the electronic power steering but the part is on back order so there is no immediate fix available.

  10. Electrical system, Nov 16, 2023

For months, the infotainment screen has flashed on and off or delayed in coming on after vehicle has started. The delay would take minutes or hours and eventually became days. Now the screen has been completely blank for about two weeks now. You can hear the radio and adjust it with the steering wheel controls but cannot adjust it with the volume control on the infotainment center. CANNOT access any menus/apps nor make any adjustments to any safety equipment or vehicle settings. CANNOT turn the back seat reminder on when I put a child in the backseat. The back up camera does not work. I'm sure there are other safety concerns I cannot think of when not able to access certain menus or apps on the entertainment center.

  11. Steering, Nov 5, 2023

Primarily at higway speeds, there is a slight binding/resistance that has to be overcomed when making a small steering correction when turning the steering wheel slightly to the right. Dealer turned off all driving assisted computer programs and said problem fixed. The problem still exsists. The steering movement is no entirely free.

  12. Power train, Other or unspecified, Engine, Oct 23, 2023

The car makes loud noise when the speed was about 50-60 MPH on a highway, the RPM went above 50 - 75. It wouldn't accelerate as I pushed the gas pedal. It's not moving as required. It was scary. It's dangerous. Something is wrong with the system, or transmission. Please fix it. Thanks.

  13. Other or unspecified, Oct 16, 2023

DRIVER SIDE MIRROR VIBRATES WHILE DRIVING

  14. Air bags, Sep 21, 2023, crash

The contact owns a 2024 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 75-80 MPH, the contact rear-ended another vehicle in front. The air bags did not deploy. The impact caused soreness in her chest and lower back; however, medical attention was not received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the collision center but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not deemed totaled by the insurance company. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,300. The VIN was unavailable.

  15. Other or unspecified, Sep 15, 2023

The Reverse camera unit is turning black and white often (while randomly it's switching to color). The sudden change in the image coloring is distracting me a lot while I'm driving. I had taken the vehicle back to dealership the immediate day after I bought my vehicle, they were able to reproduce it and asked me to leave the vehicle and after a week I was told the case is with Honda as there are many complaints across many vehicles, while dealer is waiting for Honda's solution and I was asked to take my vehicle. With no date for the fix, it's frustrating & puts me in lots of mental pressure. I've email thread with dealership if there needs any additional proof.

  16. Other or unspecified, Sep 7, 2023

Driver side mirror vibration & shaking, blurry and hard to see from that mirror. Hood vibrating at highway speeds

  17. Lane departure, Aug 25, 2023

Lane keeping/departure function could easily lead to an accident IMO. 1. Operation is either somewhat random, or uses complex rules to determine how to behave in differing circumstances, making it feel unpredictable. 2. Steering correction force can last too long, resulting in over-correction (could push you into oncoming traffic). 3. "Normal" setting is virtually useless—no correction until one is almost half into opposing lane. 4. On a road with no outside line, the feature could easily push the car off the road.
