Recalls and investigations

  1. SteeringOct 3, 2024

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.

Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

  1. Electrical system, Jun 29, 2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, the vehicle later failed to restart. The local dealer was contacted, and Roadside Assistance was provided, and the vehicle was jump-started. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000.

  2. Steering, Power train, Jun 24, 2026

Car was leased on 2/2025, at the end of May 2026 I drove the car for a couple of days when I began to notice there was an issue when turning left. Anytime I made a left turn, the car would get stuck and would pull back to the right. When the left turn was being made, there would be a clicking sound from the front left side of the car. When driving straight, the car felt like it needed to pull to the right and I would need to hold on to the steering wheel tight. At the beginning of June, I took the car into Honda where they checked it and recommended the steering column to be replaced and advised my husband that the car was no longer safe to drive. The car is 1 year and 4 months and has had no issues until now. Honda is no longer giving me warranty on the car due to the high mileage and they are quoting me $5048.67 to replace the car. I submitted a request to Honda for a "goodwill" repair but have not heard back from anyone. Because my VIN was not part of the Honda CRV steering gearbox assembly, the service manager stated there was nothing they could do to help me.

  3. Other or unspecified, Jun 23, 2026, crash

Gear: When going through an sutomated car wash on a conveyor belt car was put in neutral and hands were off the steering wheel as instructed. about 3/4 wasy through the car wash, even though the car was still in Neutral the car started to reverse : the rear camera did not go on and there was no warning beep about a vehicle behind us and it was bumping into the front of that higher vehicle that stopped the reverse. They had no damage but our rear tailgate to the right of the license plate had peeling paint and an outward bump. We talked to the car wash owner about a possibility of a faulty conveyor belt but he denied this and showed video evidence (due to our wheels moving) that the car was in reverse, blaming us for shifting gears, which we did not do. The estimated repair for the damage we received from a trusted auto body shop is 1089.00 due to the painting and what they say is a misalignment of the tailgate. Our dealer , McGrath Honda, stated there had been no recalls of car going in different direction of the gear it is in. Had this happened on a highway ours and others safety coulf have been at risk. Upon request vehicle component and system is available for inspection.

  4. Seat belts, Jun 15, 2026

Driver side seat belt bolt at the top fell out.

  5. Vehicle speed control, Jun 15, 2026

I have experienced unintended acceleration while pulling into a gas station. The vehicle suddenly accelerated from 5 to 20 mph. Brakes did work and I slowed my car down to 2-3 mph. After releasing the brakes the vehicle started accelerating again and I braked again. It was troubling and stressful experience since many other cars were around. After those two accelerations speed control went back to normal. Luckily, there were no damages and no injuries.

  6. Seat belts, Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Jun 12, 2026, crash

The contact owns a 2025 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his wife was pulling into a parking space, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and crashed into the condo building. The contact confirmed that the brakes were applied during the failure, but the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The safety features failed to engage, and the seat belt detached. A bystander testified that the driver was not speeding. The message "Take The vehicle to Dealer for service" was displayed. The driver sustained bruises, but medical assistance was not received. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire or airbag deployment. The vehicle remained at the scene. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 20,790.

  7. Service brakes, Fuel/propulsion system, Back over prevention, Jun 11, 2026, crash

As I was pulling into a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated, ran through bushes, down a slope across a sidewalk hitting a city utility box. and jumped the curb finally stopping on the street. no other vehicles were involved and no injuries. I did not report at the time of the incident, because I thought I must have done something wrong. However a similar event occurred on May 29, 2026 (See Complaint #11743489) which leads me to believe there may be a defect in the car.

  8. Structure, Jun 11, 2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that after purchasing the vehicle, the contact discovered that there was a gap on the passenger-side of the hood. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the hood fluttered upward as air entered under the hood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the vehicle was performing as designed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who determined that the hood had separated and the hood latch was loose. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the failure, and the manufacturer agreed to replace the hood. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

  9. Service brakes, Fuel/propulsion system, Back over prevention, Jun 11, 2026, crash

As I was pulling into a parking space inside a parking structure, ground floor, my car suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb, going through landscape hedge and landing on front hood of a parked vehicle outside of the parking structure. I heard the engine accelerate, but had no way of stopping or controlling the car. A very similar accident took place in this car on [XXX]. Same situation: pulling into a parking space, car suddenly accelerates; no way to stop vehicle in time to avoid accident. 10. Other or unspecified, Jun 9, 2026

While driving on highway , sunroof exploded. there were no other vehicles around , we did not hit anything. The sunroof exploded while were driving 65 MPD . Only glass left was about 2 inched all around the seal.

  11. Other or unspecified, Back over prevention, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 1, 2026

Honda put the CR-V lidar censor behind the logo emblem on the front grill. The logo is easy to remove, and the censors are being stolen at alarming rates. They're utterly unprotected, and cost over 2000 to fix/replace. It is a huge design flaw and it's unfair that they've saddled car owners with no ability to prevent theft, and huge replacement fees if a theft occurs. I just had the logo emblem stolen and it cost over 320 to replace. That's unacceptable and I'm really mad at whoever designed this car.

  12. Visibility/wiper, May 30, 2026

Washer fluid pours out onto windshield instead of spraying. This causes excessive use of washer fluid and a windshield that is not being cleaned effectively resulting in possible hazardous driving conditions due to visibility issues.

  13. Other or unspecified, May 26, 2026

The sunroof/moonroof glass spontaneously shattered. At 245 in the afternoon at 65 miles an hour no other vehicles near it. The day was clear and the temperature was in the low 70s. Heard a bang and pulled over to discover the glass had shattered. There was flying glass had another vehicle been near they would be been pelted with broken glass. The potential for injury of the passenger of the vehicle had the shade not been closed. The fact that the glass was not there it was hard to dispute that it happened. The local dealership put it off as an insurance issue rather than dealing with it. Insurance is moving forward. I believe it was a factory defect an should be looked into as a recall. No warnings just broken glass.

  14. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 22, 2026

Always driving east my cruise control, lane keeping assist and other safety systems stop working. Cars behind me are not aware of my sudden slow down. The alert said to clean the plastic H in the grill. I have been to two Honda dealers and the problem persists. Honda corporate in California calls it radar blindness. Aware of problem but no fix. I feel it is sun reflection off of the plastic H in the grill as it’s always clean and only happens when I drive east bound. I didn’t realize I was buying a problem when I bought my CRV. Please help

  15. Engine, May 20, 2026, fire

The contact was driving , experienced tire pressure and check engine light illuminated. white Smoke was seen underneath the vehicle and then it turned black. Then fire was seen coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the vehicle , and smoke and fire was seen underneath the vehicle. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was consumed by the fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow and recovery lot. No injuries were sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, May 16, 2026, crash

Enter the parking spot and vehicle accelerated, hitting a building and a tree.

  17. Visibility/wiper, May 15, 2026

Driver's side mirror has a distorted view and vibrating, most noticable at highway speeds, especially at night. Took it to a dealership and they were not able to recreate the problem both times it was taken to them. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk as the mirror has a distorted view, making it extremely difficult (nearly impossible) to accurately judge if a car is in the lane next to me when I wish to change lanes.

  18. Engine, May 14, 2026, fire

The contact's son owned a 2025 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while her son was driving on the parkway at approximately 40 MPH, a loud, booming sound emit from the vehicle. After the booming sound emitting from the vehicle, several warning lights appeared on the instrument panel as the vehicle caught fire. Due to the sudden failure, the vehicle caught fire and the authorities were called to the scene. Once the fire department arrived at the scene the fire was extinguished. No injuries or property damage were reported. A police and fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent body shop where it was deemed a total loss as the vehicle was incinerated as a result of the fire. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number by the manufacturer. The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,850

  19. Air bags, Forward collision avoidance, May 14, 2026, crash

[XXX] is the VIN. AIRBAGS DID NIT DEPLOY I was driving 77 mph on i80 near [XXX] . Another vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, left the left lane of traffic and drove on the median. This driver over corrected when her speed was 83 mph. I hit her broadside (Tbone) in the b pillar dead center on the my front of my CRV. My airbags did not deploy. I received a broken sternum from hitting the steering wheel. USAA did not investigate, just saw the photos and totalled the CRV. The Chevy Malibu had all the airbags deploy. 20. Wheels, May 13, 2026

My car has under 6,000 mi on it. I bought it new and it has had this problem from the start. The TPMS alarms time after time. I go through all the routine of checking the tires and resetting the alarm system as per the manual. It might stay off for 10 mi or for 100 mi, but for sure it will come back on, and when the tires are checked, they are OK. So I reset it again and repeat the process. I have taken it to the dealer 5 times for this issue and have another appointment scheduled for next week. Twice they just reset it without checking me into the service dept. 3 times they checked it into the shop and worked on it. They called the Honda corp and ask them what to do, and were told to balance the tires. That actually worked for a while, but the problem just came back. When the monitoring system goes off, we don't know if it is for real or not. We won't leave town with the car because of that. If we disregard the alarm, it might be that we actually have a low or flat time and could have an accident or even be killed. I virtually won't leave town with the car because I don't know when or if it is giving me good information, and also.... EVERY time it happened, I MUST stop and check all the tires air pressure and then reset the system. I think that this is a dangerous issue.

  21. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 12, 2026

COMPONENTS: Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Support, Electronic Power Steering. INCIDENT: On 05/12/2026, upon vehicle startup, a total failure of the driver-assist safety suite occurred. Dashboard indicators displayed malfunctions for: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assistance (LKAS), and a "Steering Wheel Malfunction" warning. The vehicle was inspected at Greeley Honda on the same day (Mileage: ~56k). The dealership confirmed the front radar sensor, located behind the emblem, is defective. Despite no evidence of external impact or damage, the dealership quoted $3,900 for a total replacement of the grille, emblem, and sensor. SAFETY RISK: The failure has completely disabled the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), removing the vehicle's ability to provide emergency autonomous braking. The accompanying "Steering Wheel Malfunction" indicates an error in the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) torque sensor or LKAS integration, which creates a risk of unpredictable steering assistance. These failures, combined with a cascade of distracting warning lights, pose an unreasonable safety risk during operation. REMEDY SOUGHT: The dealership failed to explain the internal cause of failure or why a cosmetic grille replacement is required to fix a safety sensor. I am seeking a manufacturing investigation. American Honda has not offered a remedy for this critical safety component failure. This appears to be a premature failure of a non-wear item that renders primary safety systems inoperable. I have consented to share my contact information with the manufacturer to facilitate a resolution.

  22. Tires, May 12, 2026

My passenger side rear tire exploded off of the vehicle as I was driving 75mph down XXX. I was fortunate to be able to bring the car under control and get it out of the path of traffic. I could have been killed by this tire failure and loss of control. I had the vehicle towed to the Honda dealership in [XXX] . They told me I must have hit something. I absolutely did not hit anything that day or any other day. It was a clear, dry, sunny day. I was not in any road construction, and there was no debris on road. In addition the tire pressure warning light did not come on either before or after the tire exploded. I believe this was a failure as well. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not on my car. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The only inspection was by the dealer at the time of repair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  23. Steering, May 11, 2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda CR-V- difficulty steering wheel, drives a little stiff. lane assist malfunctioning, cruise control malfunctioning. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an issue related to NHTSA Campaign Number 24V744000 (Steering). The contact stated the issue persisted. The dealer was contacted again that the issue had reoccurred but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

  24. Forward collision avoidance, May 9, 2026

While driving to store for errands today, 09May26, I came to a stop at a red light with intent to turn right next. I turned on my right blinker and turned a bit to the right and rolled forward to gain visibility to my left as I came to a complete stop. There was a car coming from the left that was preparing to turn left. I observed that car turn on its left blinker, and slow down while entering its turn. I confirmed the intersection was clear and there was nothing in front of me. I applied the gas, then looked left to confirm the other car was completing its left turn. While I was slowly accelerating, but before my eyes returned to the road ahead of me, the accident avoidance system sounded an audible alarm, I think I recall seeing an orange dash warning, and the system seemed to simultaneously trigger a hard brake apply. This was akin to a panic stop. I knew there was a truck approaching behind me. Although a bit stunned and dazed, I recovered as quickly as I could, and continued to complete my right turn to make sure that vehicle did not collide with me. The hard brake apply was so sudden, my head and body pitched forward (as much as permitted by the seat belt). After returning home, I realized my right shoulder was sore, presumably from the brake apply. I worry that this system could trigger the brakes like this at a much higher speed, in a turn, or with my children driving the car (they are just [XXX] and [XXX] old). I have since reached out to the dealership that I purchased the car from for assistance (LaFontaine Honda in Dearborn, MI). I just bought the car (used) last Friday, 5/1. I am a technical project manager that has supported automotive brake development projects for multiple companies and customers for 26 years. I know how these systems are supposed to work, and this one seems flawed, and potentially dangerous in my opinion. I would be happy to discuss further if NHTSA has questions. 25. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 5, 2026, fire

On 3/17/26, my husband and I started heading N on RT 83 to a medical appointment in our 2025 Honda CR-V Touring Sport. We were doing between 40 to 50 miles/hr. Twenty minutes later, we smelled faint smoke which was attributed to the trucks driving around us. Upon exit to our next route we immediately came to a red light and stopped and found heavy dark smoke coming from inside the front of our hood. We slowly moved to the R lane to get to a strip parking lot to move vehicle to a safe spot. When we finally found a safe parking a vehicle stopped to alert us of a noticeable fire at the bottom front of the Honda. We jumped out and 911 was called. By the time Police, followed by the Fire Dept, the front of my CR-V was engulfed by fire. I had just purchased this 2025 Touring Sport from Carmax 6 months earlier and it had just 7091 miles to it. My insurance and Honda were notified and claim and case #s were filed. Insurance offered a settlement but no word yet from Honda. Inspections were performed by both. Insurance inspectors report it as potential mechanical failure. Honda should offer reparations for the loss of my vehicle and placing our lives and those around us in danger.
