In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. 9. Air bags, frontalJan 28, 2015

Honda is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured February 13, 2002, to August 13, 2004, and 2003 Acura MDX vehicles manufactured February 21, 2002, to September 23, 2003. Due to electrical noise, a component in the air bag control module may fail, causing the front air bags, side air bags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.

Inadvertent deployment of the air bags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

Honda dealers will replace the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit (SRS ECU). The recall began on February 22, 2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. 12. Air bagsSep 19, 2013

Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Odyssey and model year 2003 Acura MDX vehicles. Due to electrical noise, a component in the air bag control module may fail causing the front air bags, side curtain air bags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.

Inadvertent deployment of the air bags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a noise suppressor unit, free of charge. The recall began on November 1, 2013. A renotification letter went out on July 11, 2014 for the 2003 Acura and the 2003-2004 Odyssey. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. 13. Electrical system, ignition, switchDec 11, 2012

Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Pilot and Odyssey and 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX passenger vehicles manufactured from November 26, 2001, through August 30, 2006. The interlock lever of the ignition switch may deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated.

Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated shift interlock lever and, if necessary, replace any necessary part of the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on February 22, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

  14. Power train, automatic transmissionApr 15, 2004

ON SOME MINI VANS, SPORT UTILITY AND PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.

GEAR FAILURE COULD RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

  15. Fuel system, gasoline, storage, tank assemblyJan 16, 2003

ON CERTAIN MINI VANS, SOME FUEL TANKS HAVE SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS THAT COULD ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK FROM THE TANK.

FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK FOR SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS. IF ANY IMPERFECTIONS ARE FOUND, THE FUEL TANK WILL BE REPLACED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 16, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

  5. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Sep 5, 2005

MY BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE CONTINUALLY HAD PROBLEMS SINCE ABOUT 4,000 MILES. I NOW HAVE 44,000 MILES ON MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD LX, AND THE BRAKES/ROTORS HAVE BEEN SERVICED 9 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED; ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED AND ALSO REPLACED THROUGHOUT THIS PERIOD. THE BRAKES GRAB WHEN APPLIED, WHICH HAS OCCURRED SINCE IT WAS NEW. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN OCCASIONS WHEN THE BRAKES MADE A POPPING NOISE; ALWAYS VIBRATE WHEN APPLIED, AND A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS WHERE THE CAR ALMOST DID NOT STOP.*JB

  6. Service brakes, Air, Aug 24, 2005

THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS REQUIRED RE-GROUNDING AFTER WARPING HAD OCCURRED WHICH CAUSED A PULSATING SENSATION WHEN BRAKING. THE ROTORS WERE RE-GROUND AT 34K, BUT THE PULSATING BEHAVIOR BEGAN SOMEWHERE AROUND AN ESTIMATED 28K. THE TIRES HAD ONLY BEEN ROTATED TWICE AND BOTH TIMES WERE SECURED USING FACTORY TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS, SO INCORRECT LUG NUT SETTINGS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. NO EVIDENCE OF GLAZING FROM RIDING THE BRAKES WAS PRESENT, NOR HAS THE CAR EVER BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS BELIEVED TO BE DRIVEN WITHIN NORMAL TOLERANCES SINCE WE PURCHASED NEW IN 6/03 AND HAS BEEN USED MORE FOR COMMUTING MODE RATHER THAN A LOT OF STOP AND GO USEAGE. THE FACTORY REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 10% REMAINING (WEAR TAB JUST STARTED WARNING 10 MILES EARLIER), WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE NEARLY 70% ORIGINAL MATERIAL REMAINING. I HAVE INSTALLED RAYBESTOS CERAMIC PADS ON THE REAR, BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW AND NOT DRIVEN MIS-USE/ABUSE AND THAT I'LL LIKELY HAVE TO REPAY FOR THIS REPEATEDLY IF I'M TYPICAL OF OTHERS WHO'VE COMPLAINED OF WARPED ROTORS ON THE 03 ACCORD EX - 6 CYL.

  9. Seats, Aug 2, 2005

I WAS DRIVING N/B 101. I PRESSED MY BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO DECELERATE FROM 65 MPH TO 40 MPH. THIS RESULTED IN MY DAUGHTERS SEAT UN-LATCHING FROM THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE AND TILTING ALL THE WAY FORWARD, CAUSING MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER'S FACE TO BE SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY. I SAW THAT THE BACK LATCHES WERE IN THE POPPER PLACE ON THE FLOOR BUT WEREN'T LATCHING. I THEN TILTED THE SEAT UP AND PLACED IT DOWN HARD ABOUT 20 TIMES BUT IT STILL WOULD NOT LATCH. MY DAUGHTER WASN'T SERIOUSLY INJURED, SO AT THE PRESCHOOL ONE THE TEACHERS AND I READ THE MANUAL AND PULLED ON THE LATCH RELEASE SEVERAL TIMES AND TILTED THE SEAT FORWARD AND THEN BACK DOWN, BUT IT WOULD NOT LATCH. THEN ONE OF THE GRANDPARENTS OFFERED TO TRY AND HELP BUT STILL THE DEFECTIVE SEAT WOULDN'T WORK. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SAN JOSE CA ON STEVENS CREEK BLVD, WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THEY IMMEDIATELY SAID IT WAS THE MIDDLE SEAT AND THAT I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE THEY GET THE COMPLAINT ALL THE TIME. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ACCIDENTALLY STOPPED OFF AT THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP NEXT DOOR. THE VOLVO SERVICE GUY TRY TO SEE IF HER COULD FIX & AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS SAID THE SEAT WAS DEFECTIVE. I THEN IMMEDIATELY PROCEEDED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. ONCE SERVICE PERSON TRIED TO LATCH THE SEAT, COULD NOT, AND THEN CALLED ANOTHER SERVICE GUY WHO INITIALLY COULD NOT GET THE SEAT TO LATCH. HE THEN PLACED A PEN AROUND THE LATCHING MECHANISM AND PULLED ON THE RELEASE LEVER A FEW TIMES AND IT RESULTED IN THE SEAT LATCHING. HE TOLD ME THAT THE LATCH WAS STUCK IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION BUT THAT IT WAS FINE NOW. HE SAID IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND THAT I COULD DO THE SAME THING HE DID TO FIX IT. THIS SEAT IS FAULTY AND I'M WORRIED FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY. THIS SEAT ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES, AND SOMETIMES IT FAILS, GOING INTO AND REMAINING IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION, JUST BECAUSE I PRESS MY BRAKE. PLEASE HELP, I'M SCARED. *JB

I WAS ON A HIGHWAY DURING THE DAY. AIR CONDITION ON. CRUISE CONTROL OFF. I'VE BEEN DRIVING 45-60 MINUTES AT 60-70 MPH. ENGINE TEMP NEVER CHANGED. NO INDICATION THAT A FAILURE WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. THE VAN LOST SPEED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS STALLING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TRIED TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL BUT NO POWER. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND HAD TO PULL OVER THE SHOULDER. ENGINE WAS STILL ON AND I CAN STILL REV RPMS ON PARK. I WAITED A MIN OR TWO BEFORE I PUT IT INTO DRIVE BUT NOT ABLE TO GET POWER FROM THE ENGINE. I COULDN'T GET RPMS UP ON DRIVE. FASTEST I COULD GO WAS ABOUT 5 MPH WITH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. THE VAN KEPT JERKING BACK AND FORTH WHILE I TRIED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER LOOKED AT THE CAR AFTER I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED BUT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. HE LOADED THE VAN ONTO HIS FLAT BED AND WENT TO HIS SERVICE OFFICE TO PICK UP ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS AHEAD OF US. HE EVENTUALLY HAD TO TAKE THE VAN OFF THE BED TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER TOW TRUCK. FROM THE TIME THE MY VAN HAD THE MECHANICAL FAILURE TO THE POINT WHERE THE VAN WAS TAKEN OFF THE TRUCK TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER TOW TRUCK ABOUT 3 1/2 HOURS PASSED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME TO MOVE MY CAR CLOSER TO THEIR OFFICE ABOUT 20 YARDS AWAY SINCE MY VAN CAN STILL RUN. AT THAT TIME I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE SEEMS DIFFERENT. I TESTED IT DRIVING UP AND DOWN ROAD AND IT'S AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE WAS STILL ON BUT THE VAN WAS RUNNING FINE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK HOME WITH NO PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE VAN TO A HONDA SERVICE CENTER THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. ALL THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND OUT WAS THAT THERE WAS MULTIPLE MISFIRE CODES 71-1, 74-1, 75-1, 76-1 AND #1, #4, #5, #6 CYLINDERS. THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE VAN CHECKED OUT OKAY EXCEPT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHICH THEY RESET AND THE ERROR CODES THEY GOT FROM THE HONDA DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. *JB

DT: HAD A RECALL FOR ADDING OIL JET COOLER FOR THE SECOND GEAR AREA. DON'T HAVE THE RECALL # STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD OR IN TOWN WHEN YOU GO TO ACCELORATE IT REVS UP, IT GOES TO 7,000 OR 8,000 RPMS. IT DOESN'T SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES IT WILL STAY IN 3RD GEAR. IT DOES DIFFERENT THINGS AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THIS OCCURED IN MARCH THE 1ST TIME. ITS DONE THIS ATLEAST FOUR TIMES SINCE THEN. ITS LIKE YOUR DRIVING ALONG LIKE IT GOES INTO NEUTRAL THEN IT SHIFTS OUT OF GEAR AND THE RPMS GO UP. CONTACTED THE DEALER THEY ARE GOING TO FIX IT FOR HALF PRICE. *AK

DT: THE 2003, HONDA, ODYSSEY, CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER CONCERNING TRANSMISSION. THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED A YEAR AGO. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE TRANSMISSION JET LINE THAT WAS ADDED TO THE SECOND GEAR LOOSENED AND TRANSMISSION FLUID SPILLED EVERYWHERE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. NOW HONDA RECOMMENDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AT THE DASHBOARD. CONSUMER WAS NOT HAVING REPAIR DONE AND WAITED FOR A HONDA RESPONSE. THE OWNER NEVER HAD ANY OTHER TRANSMISSION WORK DONE BEFORE THE RECALL. OWNER HAD DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE THIS.*AK

NOW, SHE HAS 40,000 MILES ON VEHICLE, AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING WITH THREE KIDS IN THE CAR. AND SHE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER.*AK

  16. Tires, May 17, 2005

THERE WERE NO SIGNIFICANT EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. THE TIRE SEEMED TO SPONTANEOUSLY SPLIT WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDE WALL WHICH RESULTED IN AN IMMEDIATE BLOW OUT. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS GOING AT A SLOW SPEED AT THE TIME SO NO CRASH OCCURRED. WE HAVE SINCE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS TIRE IS UNSAFE TO USE AT WARMER TEMPERATURES EVEN THOUGH IT IS Q99 RATED. THE TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK 215/70QR16 THAT IS ON A 2003 HONDA ELEMENT. THE TIRE WAS PROPERLY INFLATED AND WAS JUST PUT ON NOVEMBER OF 2004.

  18. Tires, Apr 23, 2005

MY VEHICLE, A 2003 HONDA ODYSSEY, IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE IN SNOW/ICE, NO MATTER HOW LITTLE SNOW OR ICE. LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD, IT HAS ONLY 23,000 MILES AND ALL ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER EQUIPMENT AND TIRES. ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE AT THE HONDA DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. VEHICLE LACKS TRACTION IN SNOW OR ICE, WHEELS SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL (WHETHER TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS ON OR OFF). VEHICLE CANNOT GO UP SLIGHTEST INCLINE. CANNOT STOP NORMALLY IN ANY KIND OF SNOW OR ICE, SKIDDING PAST DESTINATION (TAKING ME THROUGH A RED LIGHT WITH CHILDREN IN BACK SEATS). A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN / RISK. BOTH MANUFACTURER AND DEALER REFUSE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM SAYING THAT ABS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT IS WORKING PROPERLY. DEALER ALLEGES PROBLEM IS TIRES. GIVEN LOW MILEAGE AND FACTORY ORIGINAL TIRES, THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. NEITHER IS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLE IS THE MOST UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT I'VE EVER HAD. TO FURTHER CLARIFY, I VERY MUCH LIKE HONDA - SO MUCH SO THAT I ALSO OWN A CIVIC. HOWEVER, MY CIVIC HANDLES SNOW EXTREMELY WELL, WHILE THE ODYSSEY IS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. *JB

I HAVE A 2003 HONDA ODYSSEY WHICH IS EXPERIENCING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE MOST SEVERE IS THAT IT SURGES WHEN IDLING (THIS OCCURS WHEN THE DRIVERS FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL). THIS HAS BEEN OCCURING FOR NUMEROUS MONTHS AND I HAVE RETURNED THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. IF THE VAN IS IN DRIVE IT SURGES FORWARD, IF IN REVERSE IT SURGES BACK. ON 2/9/05 IT SURGED BACKWARDS INTO A CONCRETE POLE AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE REAR BUMPER. I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THE SURGING ISSUE WITH MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS HONDA USA (AND TRYING TO GET THEM TO REPAIR THE BUMPER SINCE THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED THROUGH NO FAULT OF MINE) - AND AS OF THIS DATE HAVE NOT HAD ANY RESOLUTION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH 02 AND 03 HONDA ODYSSEYS HAVING THIS SAME SURGING ISSUE. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING THE FOLLOWING ISSUES WITH THIS VAN AND HAVE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EACH: PRESET RADIO STATIONS RETURN TO FACTORY DEFAULT WITHOUT HUMAN INVENTION, PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE, FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS LATCHED, DRIVERS SEAT WILL NOT REMAIN IN POSITION.*AK
