Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Pilot and Odyssey and 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX passenger vehicles manufactured from November 26, 2001, through August 30, 2006. The interlock lever of the ignition switch may deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated.
Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated shift interlock lever and, if necessary, replace any necessary part of the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on February 22, 2013. ON SOME MINI VANS, SPORT UTILITY AND PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.
GEAR FAILURE COULD RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. ON FEBRUARY 14, 2015, I BROUGHT MY HONDA ODYSSEY IN TO A DEALER FOR AN AIRBAG RECALL. TWO DAYS AFTER I GOT IT FIXED MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON WHEN IN DRIVE AND STAYED ON. I CALLED AND MADE A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT CONCERNING THE LIGHT. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ODS UNIT HAD FAILED AND THAT IT WAS LISTED AS A RECALL AS WELL. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD BE ALL SET. HOWEVER WHEN I WENT TO HAVE IT FIXED I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $146.48. I THEN BROUGHT THE PART AND HAD IT INSTALLED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP WORKER. AFTER THE REPAIR THE LIGHT DID NOT OFF. ON APRIL 30, 2016 I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK FOR THE FINAL RECALL NOTICE AND TO FIND OUT WHY THE LIGHT HAD NOT GONE OFF. THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS THE SENSOR. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY SRS LIGHT WAS NOT ON BEFORE THEY MESSED WITH THE AIRBAGS IN CONNECTION WITH THE RECALL. IF THEY MISDIAGNOSED MY CAR AND ON TOP OF THAT ALREADY MADE ME PAY $146.48 FOR A NEW OPDS UNIT (WHICH AT FIRST THEY SAID WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL) WHY SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM? THEY CAUSED THE PROBLEM WHEN THE FIXED THE 'RECALL'. I AM VERY UNHAPPY AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE. WITH THIS LIGHT BEING ON I FEEL AS THOUGH MY AIRBAG CAN DEPLOY AT ANY TIME, PUTTING MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY. I AM ALSO A TEACHER AND USE MY VAN TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN FROM TIME TO TIME. MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN ARE MY NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. SO NOW I AM ASKING THAT MY REPAIRS BE MADE AT NO COST TO ME, BECAUSE THIS ALL STARTED WITH A RECALL.

AT THIS POINT WHEN THE DOORS FINALLY CLOSE THEY ARE NOT CLOSING SMOOTHLY ON THE RAIL. THE PAINT AND SIDE BAR HAVE LITERALLY COME OFF AND ARE NOW BEING HELD UP BY DUCT TAPE. I'M SO DISGUSTED!! I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR A REPAIR ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY CLOSED THE DOORS IS BY HITTING THE INSIDE BUTTON BUT EVEN THAT NEEDS TO BE PRESSED NEARLY 5-6 TIMES BEFORE IT CLOSES FULLY. I HAVE TRIED TO MANUALLY CLOSE THE DOORS BUT THEY ARE SO HEAVY I JUST DONT HAVE THE STRENGTH.

A METAL BRACKET RIVETING THE DRIVER SEAT BOTTOM TO THE POWER SEAT STRUCTURE HAS TORN THROUGH DUE TO METAL FATIGUE. THIS ALLOWS THE WHOLE DRIVE SEAT TO MOVE FREELY WITHIN A FEW INCHES OF TRAVEL DURING ACCELERATION AND TURNING.

BASED ON NHTSA RECALL 04V-176 - TRANSMISSION RECALL, ANY CAR BELOW 15K MILES WILL HAVE A RETURN LINE INSTALLED TO LUBRICATE THE 2ND GEAR. ABOVE 15K MILES NEEDS TO BE EXAMINED BY THE DEALER FOR DISCOLORATION OF THE CLUTCHE PLATES INSIDE THE GEAR BOX. HONDA STATED THAT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH A RETURN LINE, BUT IN FACT IF THE 2ND GEAR HAD THIS ISSUE, THIS IS NOT A FIX, BUT JUST A WORK AROUND TO SAVE REPAIR COST FOR HONDA. HOW DID NHTSA APPROVE SUCH A TEMP REMEDIATION, WHEN THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAULTY. OPENED UP A CASE WITH HONDA AND I WAS TOLD THAT IF THE TRANNY HAS AN ISSUES BUT IS OPERATIONAL, IT IS NOT CONSIDERED AS FAULTY. HOW CAN HONDA STATE IF THE CAR IS OPERATIONAL, IT IS NOT FAULTY, IN THAT CASE DOES HONDA EXPECT THE VAN TO BREAK AND BE UNOPERATIONAL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO CLAIM THE ISSUE AS A RECALL ? MY SERVCE REPORT FROM THE DEALER CLEARLY STATES THAT THE RECALL OF THE RETURN LINE TO THE 2ND GEAR SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IF THE VEHICLE WAS BELOW 15K MILES, HOW WAS THIS DONE ON MY CAR WITH 40K MILES AND ABOVE. AND HOW WAS THIS AUTHORIZED OR IS IT LEGAL ? GOT A REPORT FROM THE DEALER RECENTLY WHICH CLEARLY STATES THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE 2ND GEAR NOT SHIFTING TO THE NEXT GEAR. EVERY HONDA ODYSSEY OWNER KNOWS THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS AND INFERIROR CLUTCH PLATES IN THE 2ND AND 3RD GEARS. I ANTICIPATE NHTSA TAKE ACTIONS ON SUCH CORPORATIONS WHO TRY TO EVADE THE SYSTEMS AND PROVIDE A PATCH/WORK AROUND SOLUTIONS WHICH IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX. SERVICE REPORTS WILL BE PROVIDED IF REQUIRED

WE COULD HAVE DIED YESTERDAY 02-01-2016.THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO A WILD VIOLENT DOWNSHIFT AS WE WE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. IN THE VEHICLE WERE MY WIFE WHOM IS 38 WEEKS PREGNANT, MY 5 SONS AGES 12 (AUTISIM),AGE 5,AGE 4 (ADHA),AGE 3 (AUTISIM),AND AGE 2. I LUCKILY AVOIDED BEING T-BONED DUE TO THE GRACE OF GOD. WE MADE IT HOME EVENTUALLY AND IT FAILED TO GO INTO REVERSE AND WHEN IT DID IT WAS A VERY HARD ENGAGE AND A VERY AWFUL SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE DIPSTICK TUBE WHEN I GOT IT PARKED. WHAT I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND IS THAT THESE VERY RICH OWNERS MAKING BILLIONS THRROUGH HONDA AND SEEM TO HAVE NO CARE FOR ANYONE. I CAN NOT AFFORD ANOTHER FAMILY VEHICLE. BUT THE SAD OFFENSE IS HONDA CARES FOR NO ONE . IT WILL TAKE AN ABSOLUTE TRAGIC DEATH DEALING WITH THESE VERY CHEAP TRANSMISSIONS.

HONDA ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE, SERVICE BULLETIN:08-031 " WARRANTY EXTENSION: PAINT PEELING ON DARK BLUE 2003-2005 ODYSSEYS". I AM ATTACHING THE SERVICE BULLETIN FOR YOUR REF. MY 2003 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS AFFECTED AND ITS BLUE COLOR WAS PEELING OFF OF PLACES. ON FEB 24TH 2010, COLONIAL HONDA OF DARTMOUTH, MA REPAINTED THE AREAS OF CAR AS PER THE BULLETIN: WHICH WERE ROOF, HOOD, TOP HALF QUARTER PANELS, AND TOP HALF FENDERS. MY CONCERN WAS THAT HONDA CHOSE TO JUST PAINT THE FEW AREAS AND IF OTHER AREAS STARTS TO PEEL OFF AS WELL BUT I WAS TOLD BY COLONIAL DARTMOUTH DEALER THAT TO KEEP COST DOWN, HONDA IS ONLY WILLING TO RE-PAINT THE AFFECTED AREAS AND SHOULD ANY OTHER BE AFFECTED AT A LATER POINT, THOSE WILL BE DONE AT THAT POINT. WITH THAT SAID, I AGREED AND LET THE DEALER DO THE WORK. SOME TIME LATER I NOTICED THE PAINT IS PEELING FROM OTHER AREAS. IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME WAY IT IS PEELING, LIKE IT DID BEFORE AND MATCHES PICTURES SHOWN IN THE BULLETIN ATTACHED. SO, I WENT BACK TO COLONIAL HONDA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO CALL HONDA I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT THEY HAD PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM AT A LATER POINT IF PEELING SHOULD OCCURS BUT NOW THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR WORD AND LOOKING THE OTHER WAY AND ALSO MADE DEROGATORY REMARKS ABOUT MY CAR, THAT " YOUR CAR IS 13 YEARS OLD" !!! SUBSEQUENTLY, I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPENED CASE# N012015-04-2100738. AFTER ABOUT 30 MIN OF KEEPING ME ON HOLD, HONDA CUSTOMER REP, MATTHEW TOLD ME THE SAME THING THE DEALER SAID, THAT IT IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IF HONDA WOULD HAVE DONE THE RECALL PROPERLY THE 1ST TIME, BY PAINTING THE CAR ON ALL AREAS I WOULD NOT BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A RECALL THAT WAS NOT DONE IN ITS ENTIRETY.

TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING BADLY AT UNDER 140,000 MILES. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE ALWAYS USED DEALER AS THE MECHANIC AND FOR RECALLS OR SERVICES. I HAD HIGHER EXPECTATIONS FROM HONDA CARS, TO GO LONGER. THE PRICE THEY QUOTED ME FOR REPAIR WAS OVER 5000$ JUST FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THE SERVICE WAS POOR AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED! THEY EVEN CHARGED ME 115$ JUST TO TELL ME MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING (WHICH I ALREADY KNEW)! THE CAR STARTED SLIPPING ON A MONDAY NIGHT. IT WAS LATE. I USED THE CAR TO DRIVE MY SON TO SCHOOL AT 7:30 IN THE AM ( 1.5 MILES FROM MY HOUSE) AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN GEAR AFTER STOPPING TO LET MY SON OUT. I WAS BLOCKING THE SCHOOL DRIVE AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO HONDA. IT WAS CLEARLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALER SERVICE WAS NOT GREAT, EVEN AFTER GOING THERE AND BUYING MY CAR THERE ALL THESE YEARS. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION AND I FEEL THAT IT WAS NOT PROPERLY RESOLVED!

THE SRS LIGHT IN MY VEHICLE IS COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. HONDA DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A SWITCH IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT. PAGE 53 OF MY VEHICLE OWNERS MANUAL CLEARLY STATES THE FOLLOWING: "HONDA PROVIDES A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON SEAT BELTS. HONDA WILL REPAIR OR REPLACE ANY SEAT BELT COMPONENT THAT FAILS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING NORMAL USE." AS SUCH, THE AFOREMENTIONED SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH IS A COMPONENT OF THE SEAT BELT. HOWEVER, HONDA REFUSES TO COVER REPAIR TO MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN, AS ACCORDING TO MY MANUAL, AN SRS INDICATOR LIGHT MAY CAUSE CERTAIN AIRBAGS NOT TO DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION. SUCH AN EVENT WOULD SURELY CAUSE CLEARLY PREVENTABLE BODILY HARM IF THEY WOULD JUST HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. I'M CALLING ON THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE, AS I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHERS IN ONLINE FORUMS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WITH MIXED RESULTS FROM HONDA.
