Recalls and investigations

  1. Fuel system, gasoline, delivery, fuel pumpJul 28, 2014

Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC (Delphi) is recalling certain replacement fuel pump modules, part number FG1155-11B1, sold for use in 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The affected fuel pump may send an incorrect fuel reading to the fuel gauge possibly causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The fuel gauge will always read 3/4 full to full regardless of the actual level.

A vehicle that runs out of fuel and stalls has an increased risk of a crash.

Delphi has begun notifying dealers and distributors, and will replace the fuel pump modules, free of charge. Owners may contact Delphi customer service at 1-877-411-8770. Delphi's number for this recall is GL14-004.

  2. Fuel system, gasoline, delivery, fuel pumpMar 14, 2014

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured June 23, 2004, through September 4, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the fuel pump strainer cover may deteriorate allowing fuel to leak out.

A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.

Parts to permanently repair the affected vehicles are not currently available. Honda will notify owners with an interim letter during May 2014. A second notice was mailed to owners October 6, 2014 when the remedy became available. Any vehicles that are currently leaking from the fuel pump cover will get a replacement, original cover. All vehicles, including those receiving the interim repair, will get an improved cover when they are available. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. The recall numbers associated with this campaign are JD9 (inspection and/or preliminary part replacement) and JE0 (final parts replacement).

  1. Engine and engine cooling, Aug 20, 2010

ENGINE FAILURE AT 1700 MILES. FRONT AND REAR CAMSHAFTS SEIZED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE DISABLED. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A SECONDARY ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC AND JUST ABLE TO GET OFF HIGHWAY. REPLACED CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLIES,SPROCKETS, BELTS, GASKETS, ETC. OLD PARTS RETAINED BY DEALER. WE CALLED HONDA AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-999-1009 AND SPOKE TO A GENTLEMAN NAMED DAVID, WHO WAS NOT HELPFUL AND WOULD NOT TRANSFER US TO ANYONE WITH ANY AUTHORITY. THE DEALER TOLD US HONDA AMERICA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER 3.5 L ENGINES. FORTUNATELY NO ONE APPARENTLY HAS BEEN DISABLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND KILLED BY LOSS OF CONTROL. *TR

  2. Engine and engine cooling, Jul 30, 2010

2010 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL WITH 8500 MILES BURNS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IF I FOLLOW THE MAINTENANCE MINDER SYSTEM I COULD BE LEFT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH A BLOWN ENGINE. *TR

  3. Engine and engine cooling, Electrical system, Jul 12, 2010

2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE VSA LIGHT, DRIVE LIGHT, EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WOULD ALL FLASH OR STAY ON CONSISTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND THE ENGINE REVVED HIGH. *JB

  4. Engine and engine cooling, Power train, May 1, 2010

IN COLD WEATHER, WITH 1100 MI. ON VEHICLE, DROVE 10 MILES AND CAME TO A STOP. VEHICLE REVVED AT 1500 RPMS WHILE IN DRIVE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, PUT IN TO NEUTRAL AND IT REVVED TO 5000-6000 RPMS WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. TURNED OFF AND ON, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REV AT 5000-6000 RPMS WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN, VEHICLE BACK TO NORMAL. PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. BROUGHT TO DEALER, DEALER DID BASIC TESTING, COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT DID NOT COME ON, BUT DEALER CHECKED FOR STORED CODES, NOTHING FOUND. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SAID VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE. DEALER SUGGESTED FOOT WAS ON GAS PEDAL, OR FLOOR MAT WAS ON GAS PEDAL. HOWEVER, FOOT WAS ON BRAKE, AND FLOOR MAT WAS SECURED TO FLOOR. WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES WITH A 2001 ODYSSEY, THOUGHT PROBLEM WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WITH THIS NEW MODEL. DEALER COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE WITH THE 2001 ODYSSEY EITHER. THE CONSEQUENCE IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AS VEHICLE COULD HIT SOMETHING IN FRONT OF IT IF BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED FIRMLY WHEN TRYING TO COME TO A STOP. *TR

  5. Engine and engine cooling, Mar 4, 2010

2010 HONDA ODYSSEY ENGINE DEFECT THAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL AND CEASE OPERATION WHILE DRIVING HAVING THE DRIVER LOSE THE ABILITY TO FULLY CONTROL THE VEHICLE. DEFECT IS IN THE OIL SUPPLY TO THE OVERHEAD CAMSHAFT CAUSING IT TO SEIZE AND BREAKING THE TIMING BELT. MUCH UPPER END ENGINE DAMAGE. *TR

  6. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Engine and engine cooling, Feb 3, 2010

WE HAVE A 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY. I WAS LOOKING AHEAD IN TRAFFIC AND NOTICE THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD SLAM THEIR BRAKES. I THOUGHT I HAD ENOUGH DISTANCES TO STOP, BUT MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I COULDN'T MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL. I FELT LIKE I KEPT SLIDING INSTEAD OF JUST STOPPING. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND AT DUSK TIME DURING THE DAY. THE LADY FROM THE CAR THAT I BARELY HIT, GOT OUT OF HER CAR AND ASKED ME HOW NEW WAS MY VEHICLE. I TOLD HER THAT WE HAD JUST GOT IT. SHE SAID WHEN I LOOKED BACK TO SEE YOU, YOU HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP BUT IT LOOKED LIKE YOU KEPT SLIDING. SHE THOUGHT I SHOULD GO AND GET MY BRAKES CHECKED. SO I DID AT THE SAME HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID MY BRAKES WERE FIND. I DON'T THINK THAT MY BRAKES ARE FINE. I HAD A 2004 ODYSSEY AND I FELT SAFER WITH THOSE BRAKES THAN I DO WITH THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE. ONE OTHER THING ABOUT MY VEHICLE SINCE I AM ON HERE. WE HAD TAKEN A LONG TRIP JUST AFTER WE HAD BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. A WARNING LIGHT CAME OWN. MY HUSBAND LOOKED IN THE MANUAL IT WAS IN RELATION TO EMISSIONS. IT WAS THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP. WE HAD CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD US 2 THINGS. TAKE IT IN TO GET IT LOOKED AT THE NEAREST HONDA DEALERSHIP AND ARE WE TIGHTENING OUR GAS TANK CAP. SO WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US NOTHING WAS WRONG. DURING OUR WHOLE TRIP BACK WE MADE SURE OUR GAS TANK CAP WAS TIGHTEN. TO THIS VARY DAY THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG, BUT THE LIGHT COMES AND GOES. THEY CAN'T TELL US WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. SO I AM ON HERE CONCERN ABOUT MY FAMILY AND I SAFETY. *TR
