  3. Seats, mid/rear assemblyMar 13, 2018

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats have a lever to fold the seatback and slide the seat forward to access the third row seats. Due to a manufacturing error, if the walk-in release lever is used to fold a fully reclined left outboard seatback forward, the seatback may stay in the unlocked position (free-folding) or unexpectedly unlock without engaging the walk-in or recliner lever.

An unlocked second row left outboard seatback increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will confirm proper operation of the second row left outboard seatback, and install a support bracket to the seat recliner. If the seatback cannot lock, dealers will replace the seatback frame assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X0R.

  4. Seats, mid/rear assemblyNov 17, 2017

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats can slide sideways to one of two positions. If a seat is placed between either of the two positions when attaching the seat to the vehicle floor, the seat will not latch properly to the seat striker, allowing the seat to tip forward unexpectedly during braking.

If the seat tips forward during braking, it can increase the risk of injury.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a bracket to the second row outboard floor strikers, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2018. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is S0G.

  1. Electrical system, Sep 26, 2025

Odometer Fraud. The contact intended to purchase a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon retrieving the Carfax report of the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. The vehicle was advertised with 113,000 miles; however, the Carfax report displayed that the mileage was 291,000. The vehicle was not purchased.

  2. Electrical system, Wheels, Engine, Sep 26, 2025

had purchased my 2015 Honda Odyssey in the year of 2015. When I first went in for a first service my car have a light saying Check engine, check VSA, check LDW, check FDW and once a while my shake when we are on the road. We told the service people at the dealership to have a look at it but they said nothing wrong with it.

  3. Engine, Aug 22, 2025

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at night, the check engine warning light started flashing. The contact was able to pull over. The contact called a mobile mechanic who determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #1, and that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The spark plugs were replaced, but additional repairs were needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the spark plugs, and piston rings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and determined that there was no warranty coverage for the failure, and no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

  4. Other or unspecified, Aug 14, 2025

What happened? When I took my 2015 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ) to a Honda dealer for service, I was told Honda’s internal database incorrectly shows the vehicle as having a salvage/junk title. Minnesota DMV records confirm my title is clean. Component/system affected: This error prevented the dealer from performing warranty-covered inspections and potential repairs on safety systems including brakes, electronic stability control, and adaptive cruise control. These systems are still in use and available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: By denying service due to an incorrect salvage status, the vehicle could continue operating with undetected or unrepaired safety defects, putting myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk. Confirmation: The problem was confirmed by the Honda dealer’s service department, which refused service solely due to Honda’s salvage designation. Inspection history: The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer but no repairs were performed because of the incorrect salvage status. The Minnesota DMV verified that my title is clean and unbranded. Warning signs/messages: There were no warning lamps prior to the incident; the issue arose only when the VIN was entered into Honda’s system for service. 5. Power train, Engine, Aug 11, 2025

I am reporting an engine defect covered under Honda’s recent warranty extension for 2013–2017 Odyssey / 2013–2015 Pilot vehicles when the MIL comes on with DTCs P0301–P0304. On November 1, 2022, I was stranded on the road when the check-engine light came on. At Honda Muller of Gurnee, the dealer diagnosed misfires consistent with P0301–P0304, explaining the underlying cause as piston ring function deterioration with sludge causing oil to foul the spark plugs. I was told my original warranty had expired only about six weeks earlier (on August 29, 2022). Coverage was denied and I was quoted over $6,000. Because I couldn’t afford the repair, the dealer recommended replacing the spark plugs as a temporary measure only, stating this would not fix the underlying defect. I proceeded with that temporary measure. On November 11, 2022, American Honda formally acknowledged my concern in writing, confirming that Case #13455791 had been opened and escalated to a case manager in direct response to my diagnosis from November 1, 2022. Despite this acknowledgment, my repair request was denied. In 2025 I received Honda’s warranty extension letter acknowledging coverage for this exact defect (including coverage through January 31, 2026). I returned to the dealer seeking repair based on my documented diagnosis, but repair was refused again because the codes were not present that day (the condition is intermittent). This defect affects drivability and safety (loss of power/hesitation and reduced ability to merge or cross traffic). I am asking NHTSA to record this complaint and consider action so that owners with documented prior diagnoses — especially those recognized by Honda corporate — are not refused repairs simply because an intermittent defect isn’t active at the exact moment of inspection. I am reporting an engine defect covered under Honda’s recent warranty extension for 2013–2017 Odyssey / 2013–2015 Pilot vehicles when the MIL comes on with DTCs P0301–P0304.

  6. Engine, Aug 7, 2025

On March 27th, I was driving my car. My children were with me and we were on the way home from swim practice. With no warning, my engine went crazy. We were sitting at a stop light and the idel became very rough shaking the entire car. The engine was slow to respond to the accelerator and ultimately I decided that it was not safe to drive. I had my van towed to my mechanic who ran diagnostics and confirmed that the spark plugs were misfiring because of oil build up related to a faulty piston ring valve. He explained that it was a common problem with Odysseys. He gave us the options of doing the major repair of the rings that would cost about $5000 or we could replace the failing spark plugs and get 6-8 months out of the car before the same issue would reoccur. Not having a spare $5k on hand we opted for the temporary fix. I recently received a warranty extension from Honda about this exact issue but Honda is refusing to repair my car. They have told me that unless the engine light is on and the appropriate codes are indicated, I can not have the repair covered by the warranty. I took in documents from my mechanic with pictures of the codes, but they will not honor this. They also said that even if they did an inspection that confirmed the piston ring failure, Honda USA would not pay them back for the repairs because the service light and appropriate service codes are not showing. I believe the terms of this warranty extension are in bad faith and put me and my family at risk. Either I spend my own money to repair the car, or I wait until the engine fails and me and my family are stranded on the side of the road. Despite numerous conversations with the service member and customer service, Honda refuses to put in writing their refusal to repair my car under the warranty.

  7. Electrical system, Jul 30, 2025

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 144,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 244,000.

  8. Engine, Jul 24, 2025

My vehicle has a know issue with Honda Corporate with the variable cylinder management that has lead to 7 miss fires in 4 years. The frequent and excessive miss fires are caused by carbon and oil leaking through the piston rings. Honda has attempted to repair the piston rings but that repair was a fail. I’ve experienced a miss fire after the repair and now require another change to my spark plugs recommended by Honda. I filed a reimbursement case with Honda and was notified they will not resolve the issue or reimburse me for the excessive miss fires, spark plug and coils replaced due to their faulty know engine defect. They announced in July 2025 that they were extending the warranty to cover repairs related to engine misfires (DTCs P0301 through P0304) and will last for 10 years from the original purchase date or 150,000 miles. However they have denied my reimbursement after sending proof of miss fire work and payment.

  9. Seats, Jul 7, 2025

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V725000 (SEATS); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

  10. Visibility/wiper, Mar 31, 2025

Back hatchback glass spontaneously shattered. Nobody was in the vehicle and it was in the garage. So- nobody was hurt; however, this may not have been the case had we been riding down the highway. From my research this is not the first time this has happened with this model vehicle. I plan to contact Honda today, if that is possible. I have pictures that show it could not have been hit by an object. It obviously was under pressure and caved from the sides.

  11. Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 13, 2025

Fuel pump failure that was not a part of the 2.5 million car recall. Honda would not help.

  12. Engine, Mar 10, 2025

The engine has experienced a cylinder 1 misfire condition twice in the last month. In each instance, the spark plug has been fouled with oil and caused the ignition coil pack to malfunction. When the failure occurred, the vehicle was in operation at roadway speeds and placed the vehicle into limp mode with a flashing check engine light and deactivating the forward collision monitor and lane departure warning. In each instance, the vehicle has been towed to an independent mechanic shop where the P0301 codes have been found. I have contacted American Honda Motors and was advised that there are no recalls at this point. Looking online, the 3.5L engine appears to have several issues regarding the VCM system that leads to ring failure and oil leaking into the cylinders. There was a class action suit, Soto et al. v. American Honda, that led to Honda extending engine warranties to 8 years, unlimited mileage, but does not correct the issue with the VCM causing damage. Thankfully for me each time the misfire condition has occurred, I have been close to home so that I have not been left stranded.

  13. Electrical system, Engine, Feb 27, 2025

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked and lunged forward while depressing the accelerator pedal, as the vehicle would shut off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was discovered that oil had leaked onto the alternator. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 135,000.

  14. Power train, Dec 6, 2024

Vehicle shifts abruptly from 1st to 2nd gear at feels like car will fall apart when that happens. It has happened multiple time throughout the time we owned the vehicle. Dealerships just does a transmission fluid replacement $230 watch time but no permanent solution. Were afraid transmission will fail in traffic.

  15. Other or unspecified, Nov 12, 2024

My two side doors do not close at times I have entered place of work and when I go to vehicle at lunch my side door is open. This has happened several times with coworkers closing my van sliding door I have stood there engaged sliding door and it just slides back through open. This is a safety as someone can climb into my vehicle while I’m away or my children can be hurt while closing doors. My doors red light on dashboard remains on for doors. My children have been in vehicle I close sliding door and the doors reopens my children constant statement doors opened again I get off slide them close and they reopen several times

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 12, 2024

I have replaced the vehicle pump 4 times in the last 6 months I’m driving vehicle stutters when going uphill then it just stops mid drive and when we have it checked the pump connector are charred. We replace fuel pump and wires and.within 6 weeks to 2 months I have to replace fuel pump again. It’s a safety issue as my vehicle can get into an accident or it can explode due to it burning the wires and connectors to fuel pump. I’m tired of replacing this item

  17. Power train, Sep 27, 2024

    See attached document for complaint.

  18. Engine, Sep 4, 2024

Cylinders misfire due to leaky cylinder rings. Causes car to ride rough / shake violently. Needs to replace spark plugs, which were completely fouled out with oil. We have needed to have this car towed multiple times and make repeat repairs.

  19. Other or unspecified, Engine, May 16, 2024

The VCM system has failed and caused oil to seep past piston rings and gum/foul up spark plugs. This is a known issue by Honda but they won’t do anything about it.

  20. Equipment adaptive/mobility, Apr 29, 2024

12/21/23: Wheelchair ramp and kneel function failed with no warning. This engaged safety feature that disables gear shift and keeps car in park. Unable to move car or deploy ramp using back-up override. Called Mobility Works (authorized VMI dealer). Troubleshooting failed to deploy ramp or kneel function. Told only option was to pop off tab next to gear shift and insert screwdriver to override “park” lock. Fortunately, quadriplegic spouse was not in the vehicle or he would have been trapped. 12/26/23 to 1/3/24: Vehicle inspected at Mobility Works, technician diagnosed controller board failure and recommended replacement. Told VMI lost supplier for controller board leaving no way to properly restore conversion equipment. On 1/3/24 spoke to VMI technician who confirmed controller board is unavailable. He stated VMI engineering department is trying to develop a workaround for a new controller board. VMI technician also reported two calls a day for this problem, and that it affects their Chrysler conversion equipment as well. 2/7/24: Telephoned VMI technical support. Told workaround for controller board will not be available for months. Told that if quadriplegic becomes trapped in car to call fire department. Told this is an acceptable solution in the mobility industry if back-up fails. Very cavalier, comparing to Ford no longer making fuel pump or fuel hose for his old truck. 4/18/24; 4/25/24: Emailed VMI requesting status of controller board replacement. No response. Conclusion: The controller board failed without warning, causing all conversion equipment to fail, including back-up override, and potentially trapping power wheelchair dependent individuals in their vehicles. VMI has failed to provide parts for repair of its conversion equipment. VMI authorized dealer estimates $1,000 to bypass controller board. This will cause certain accessibility functions to no longer work. The vehicle has been unusable for quadriplegic spouse since December 2023.

  21. Electrical system, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Apr 1, 2024

I am deeply concerned about the sudden breakdown of my vehicle due to the spool valve leaking onto the alternator and caused the loss of power and stalling of the vehicle while driving out of town and on an Interstate. This was an extremely scary time for me and my family being stranded on an expressway for over an hour and trying to figure out how to get my kids and family to safety. I have heard of others having the same issue with the same make and model vehicle and their repairs was covered by Honda. I don't understand why my issue would be any different and why my repairs are not currently covered by the Honda service bulletin. I would extremely hope honda take a deeper look at including my Vin in the service bulletin. I now understand this to be a well known issue as published in Honda Technical Service Bulletin TSB [XXX] However, no information was sent to owners even though Honda has known about the issue since at least March 2020. This puts unnecessary safety risks for those driving with oil leaking onto the alternator resulting in electrical system shutdowns and issues driving. I believe a recall and safety notice should be issued. Yes, the component was inspected by Honda and replaced. The first indicator was the ABS system warning light along with many other systems shutting down. This occurred at a high-rate of speed on the freeway. I am frustrated Honda has known abut this issue for many years, but has not informed owners nor offered to correct the issue leading to safety issues and costly repairs. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) Look forward to hearing better news from Honda and my repair coverage along with Honda standing by its product reliability.

  22. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Mar 11, 2024

A spool valve leak occurred leaking oil onto the alternator which caused it to fail when driving. When it failed, electrical systems started to shut down. At first, the ABS system indicator lit up. Multiple systems started to fail soon thereafter. Upon pulling over on the freeway, the vehicle was unable to go in reverse. The root cause was a spool valve leak that is well known and consequently puts drivers at risk when driving at high speeds. When driving down the interstate, all the electrical systems started to shut down. The ABS system was the first indicator, along with multiple electrical systems soon thereafter. Once pulled over, the vehicle could not go in reverse as well. Upon pulling over, the vehicle also could not go in reverse. 23. Engine, Jan 17, 2024

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle began to lose power upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. A warning message appeared on the instrument panel that instructed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for service. The contact initially took the vehicle to a dealer but due to a high volume of customers, the dealer could not service the vehicle. The next day, the vehicle was taken to a second dealer where a diagnostic test was performed that showed a piston ring failure had caused the engine oil to contaminate the spark plugs which led to an engine misfire. The dealer replaced the spark plugs, piston rings, and cylinder rings in cylinders number 1, 2, and 3. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 133,597.

  24. Engine, Jan 4, 2024

Honda's variable cylinder management (VCM) system puts inordinate wear on engine cylinders that causes the vehicle to shake and misfire and eventually shut down the engine. It causes spark plug and cylinder coil failures and cylinder damage. This is not due to age, misuse or lack of proper maintenance. The VCM causes engine build up as a normal course of action. This is a known issue that Honda has never communicated to owners of these vehicles. Model years 2011-2013 had the same issue. Honda has offered no recourse, or even communication, to owners of 2014-2017 Odysseys with the exact same VCM (VCM2) mechanism and the same wear and tear on the engine. You can read more about the issues these vehicles have and how common this is here: [XXX] Honda dealerships will replace your cylinder rings (at a HIGH cost) but this does not fix or prevent the issue from recurring. Our vehicle had this work done at 77K miles, but it does not stop the VCM from causing build up and malfunctioning again in the future. Families like ours buy these vans because they are supposed to have reliable engines, and be safe for their families. They sold 450K model year 2014-2017 Honda Odysseys and this effects EVERY one of them on the road today. This is a consumer issue AND a safety issue. 25. Engine, Dec 11, 2023

At 87,000 miles the piston valves failed in my 2015 Odyssey. Safety was put at risk as the spark plugs would fail due to oil leaking from the piston valves and the engine would flash all the lights and run super hard. Unable to drive it for 1 mile after the spark plugs failed. After the 2nd spark plug failure, a dealership confirmed the issue was the piston valves. 2 Honda dealerships confirmed that this is a known issue with Odysseys, Pilots and Accords and they have multiple vehicles in weekly to address this issue. Honda has had recalls on prior year Odysseys 2008-2013 for the piston valves but does not do anything to recognize this issue remains with the 2014-2017 vehicles. In 2018 the engine/build of the Odysseys changed and the piston valves are not an issue for that year and up.
