Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedan, coupe and GT vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This will allow the brake lights to remain illuminated continuously. It can also allow the shift lever to be moved without depressing the brake pedal, or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature.
If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 170. This campaign expands recall 16V574.

Vehicle Information: 2014 Hyundai Elantra SE Sedan, 4-Cylinder, 6-Speed Automatic, FWD Build Location: USA-Built Version (Montgomery, AL - VIN '5NP') Ownership: Second owner, purchased Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) from the Hyundai of New Port Richey dealer (Florida) in March 2016. Vehicle is owned outright. Mileage: 128,638 Approximate Date Incident Noticed: October 1, 2025 DESCRIPTION OF CRITICAL SAFETY DEFECT & WARRANTY REJECTION I am reporting a failure of the clock spring assembly, which compromises critical safety features and poses an unreasonable risk, especially since this vehicle regularly transports passengers, including children. My VIN was rejected by the Hyundai TXXA Clock Spring Extended Warranty validator despite exhibiting the exact failures covered by the campaign. Safety Failures: Airbag (SRS): Warning light is constantly illuminated; driver-side airbag is disabled and will not deploy, endangering the driver and front passenger. Horn: Completely inoperable, eliminating a vital safety communication feature required to warn other drivers. Cruise Control: Buttons on the steering wheel are non-functional. These failures are caused by a broken electrical connection within the clock spring (which typically runs the Airbag, Horn, and Cruise Control circuits). I believe the denial is related to my vehicle being the USA-Built version (VIN '5NP'). I request that NHTSA investigate why this safety campaign arbitrarily excludes USA-built Elantras (but not Korean-built) experiencing the identical failure, thereby placing an unreasonable repair cost burden on owners for a critical safety component.

This has occurred three separate times, but this report explains what happened during the most recent occurrence. I was driving at 40 mph. The car in front of me hit their brakes, so I lightly tapped my brakes to slow down. When I tapped the gas pedal, the car would not increase speed. The check engine light, oil light, and battery light each turned on simultaneously. The car then stalled completely, but the lights remained on and the car didn’t lose power. I hit the brakes (which were now hard to push down), hit my emergency flashes so that the car behind me would pass me, pulled over to the side of the road, and then I turned off the car. When I turned the car back on, 30 seconds later, all of the lights were off and the car started with no issue.

My car is only at 46000 miles.SinceI'm purchase from dealer it has given me the same issues of RPMs shooting up &speedometer going out of control the car wont go past 20mph & jerks back & forth, tyrning off while driving & has had a b"bad" drive since purchase. I dont know the issue and its never been fixed by dealer even though i took it in a few times for these issues. it now foing it again. my life is in danger with this care since purchase & hyundai shouldve replaced my car or engine but they do not care. this car is a lemon. and now the car can go on fire parked or driving? what can be done..on the nextvpart of complaint im putting down ladt week sice this is the newest incident of the desc.

The piston rings do not seal leading to increased oil consumption and very low oil. My safety was put at risk because when I pulled out into traffic that was going at a high speed I could not accelerate. There was no warning or indication that this was going on prior to this incident. Yes this has been confirmed by a Hyundai dealership and the component was inspected. There was no warning sign before this incident.

While driving over the last month, the car shuts off with no warning. There are no check engine or other lights that come on once it shuts down. There does not appear to be any consistency in the occurences, sometimes while idling, sometimes while driving 40 mph. Up until recently, the car would restart once I put it in neutral, but it now does not restart right away.

I was driving the vehicle normally down the highway. When I exited the highway, I came to a stop light and made a complete stop at which point the engine stalled. I restarted the vehicle, the check engine light appeared, but I couldn’t get it to register any RPMs and I was left stranded in a busy intersection until help arrived.

my car will stall randomly at stop signs and red lights with absolutely no warning. it’s super dangerous and has almost caused a wreck. i have taken it to mechanic and no codes are being thrown and it’s showing nothing is wrong. it’s a matter of time a accident happens and someone gets hurt. I would definitely like to figure this out!

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while at a stop when the contact accelerated to move forward and the vehicle accelerated at high speed and the contact noticed white smoke was coming from the exhaust of the vehicle. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the rings around the engine needed to be replaced and that the vehicle had an oil leak, The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I own a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. When the accelerator pedal is engaged, the vehicle hesitates and only accelerates to about 20 mph. The vehicle also stalls while at a complete stop and while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed multiple times, but a failure code could not be found. The mechanic cleaned all the sensors; however, the failure was not corrected. The mechanic stated that the throttle body was causing the vehicle not to accelerate and stall while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall and The vehicle was not repaired.

When driving the vehicle the tachometer and speedometer remain at zero. This has been happening on and off for about a month. Multiple scan tools have been used to scan the vehicle with no codes appearing. Sometimes the vehicle will rev up but not accelerate.

2014 ELANTRA DRIVING THE CAR IN TOWN AT SLOW SPEEDS, USUALLY AROUND 15-25 MILES AN HOUR, WITH RPMS AT ABOUT 1250. FIRST NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH EXTREMELY JERKY DRIVING, BUT ADDED GAS AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY, AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A ONE-TIME THING. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I SET AN APPOINTMENT TO THE MURDOCK HYUNDAI OF MURRAY UTAH TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE THAT WAS PUTTING MY FAMILY AND MY SECURITY IN RISK. ON JUNE 18TH AROUND 6 PM, THE DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK IN THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN, THEY RECOMMENDED ME TO CLEAN MY GAS INJECTORS, TO DO A TUNE-UP, TO DO AN ALIGNMENT AND TO ADD NEW FOUR TIRES CHANGE SINCE THEY WERE TOTALLY DAMAGED., SOME KIND OF HYUNDAI SOLVENT CLEANERS FOR THE GAS ENGINE. ALL OF THE SERVICES HAD A TOTAL OF $1043 DOLLARS. I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL IT NEEDED BUT NOT IT WAS NOT. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CAR STARTED TO HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE, LOSING POWER AGAIN, ENGINE SLOWING DOWN AND BAD GAS MILEAGE... I SET UP ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP.

WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON INTERSTATE AT 65MPH WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON FOR OVER 30 SECONDS AND DRASTICALLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE TO UNDER 20MPH. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE COMPLETELY DRY AND ROAD SURFACE WAS SMOOTH. HAZARD LIGHTS WERE PUT ON TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS FROM POSSIBLE COLLISION AND I PULLED OVER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS IN A 3 WEEK PERIOD. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID NO CODES CAME UP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE DESCRIBED PROBLEM. A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN 2011-2012 FOR SIMILAR ISSUE ON SAME MAKE AND MODEL.

08-26-16 WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A PUBLIC PARK WHILE DOING LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR, I EXPERIENCED RAPID UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, PLOWED THROUGH A FENCE, SIDESWIPED A TREE, WENT OFF A GRASSY MEDIAN BACK UP ONTO A GRASSY MEDIAN AND THEN BOUNCED OFF OF THAT BEFORE THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO REST. MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT I AM NOT DEAD AS THE PARK IS ON A VERY BUSY 4 LANE ROAD AND IS USUALLY FULL OF CHILDREN.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AT A SLOW SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH) IN A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT LOCATED AT 10100 W. SAMPLE ROAD, FLORIDA, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, WHICH CAUSED A SEVERE CRASH INVOLVING TWO OTHER VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHICH THEREBY CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COLLIDE WITH TWO PARKED CARS (AN SUV AND A SEDAN. EVEN AFTER COLLIDING WITH THE SUV I STILL WAS UNABLE THE STOP THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS TRAVELING AT SUCH A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THAT I COLLIDED WITH A SECOND VEHICLE. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO THE PARK POSITION DID THE VEHICLE COME TO A STOP. AT NO TIME DID THE CARS AIRBAGS DEPLOY. I AM BEYOND DISTRESSED ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT. I AM A SAFE DRIVER AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ACCIDENT SUCH AS THIS BEFORE. ASIDE FROM MY PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL INJURIES, MY SISTER SUFFERED SEVERAL INJURIES WHEN SHE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. THIS HAS JUST ADDED TO MY DISTRESS AND DISAPPOINTMENT ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I WAS ASSURED THAT THIS WAS A SAFE CAR, HOWEVER, I HAVE LOOKED AT THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA, INCLUDING SEVERAL SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION CRASHES. I INTEND TO FILE A COMPLAINT MYSELF. THE PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE OF THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR IS OVER TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS AND NOW I FACE SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WOULD FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT AGAIN. I HAVE TWO YOUNG GRANDCHILDREN THAT VISIT ME FREQUENTLY AND I WOULD NEVER TAKE THE CHANCE OF HAVING THEM IN AN UNSAFE CAR. I HAS RECENTLY TRADED IN MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA FOR A 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE 2014 HAD STARTED DOING WHAT THE 2012 DID OCCASIONALLY, ACCELERATE WHEN I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS TO SWITCH TO THE BRAKE TO BEGIN SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT. AFTER I'VE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND I'M COASTING BEFORE I NEED TO APPLY IT AGAIN, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE. I USED TO THINK IT WAS MY IMAGINATION, THEN I READ OTHERS CONFIRMING IT DOES HAPPEN. LATELY I'VE ALSO HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING WHEN I DO TOUCH THE GAS, THE ENGINE REVS UP AND BOLTS FORWARD LIKE I FLOORED IT, BUT I ONLY LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE GAS. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY DRIVING THE VEHICLE (A 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA) AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN IT INEXPLICABLY "STALLED" FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM. I QUICKLY LOST SPEED AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AT ONE POINT. THE VEHICLE SIMPLY DID NOT RESPOND. THERE WAS PLENTY OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE, SO I HAD NOT RUN OUT OF GAS. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO HAVE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF OPERATION. THIS RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON A HIGHWAY WHERE I, ALONG WITH THE OTHER OCCUPANTS WITHIN THE VEHICLE, SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT INJURIES.
