Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2013-2014 Santa Fe Sport vehicles previously repaired under recall numbers 15V-568 and 17V-226. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak from the pipe.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pipe, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's recall number for this recall is 180.

Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 27, 2018
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. On February 27, 2018, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) notified NHTSA that they were recalling 154,753 model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. On April 18, 2018, Hyundai expanded the recall to include an additional 425,305 model year 2012-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying.
If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install an external wire filter kit, free of charge. The recall began October 15, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 174.

Seat belts, pretensionerOct 4, 2017
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles previously repaired under recall campaign 17V-152. The seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
If the seat belt linkage detaches from the seat belt anchorage, it can not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will again verify the connection between the seat belt linkage and the pretensioner and additionally install a warning label to prevent future seat belt linkage detachment, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 169.

Seat belts, front, anchorageMar 8, 2017
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
In the event of a crash, if the seat belts detach from the anchor pretensioners, it can increase the risk of injury.
Hyundai will notify owners and dealers will inspect the connection between the seat belt linkages and the seat belt anchor pretensioners, repairing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 7, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for the recall is 160.

Steering, electric power assist systemApr 5, 2016
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to October 31, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) circuit board may be damaged and result in a loss of power steering assist.
With a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPS control unit, free of charge. The recall began May 30, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9640. Hyundai's number for this recall is 143.

Exterior lighting, brake lights, switchNov 16, 2015
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released.
If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to rearward following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 136.

Suspension, front, springs, coil springsOct 7, 2015
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Elantra vehicles manufactured November 12, 2010, to March 31, 2011, and Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to February 28, 2010, originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Road salt may corrode the front coil springs, possibly resulting in the coil springs fracturing.
If a front coil spring fractures, it may contact the tire, possibly puncturing it, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front coil springs, free of charge. Interim notifications were mailed on November 17, 2015. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 133. Note: Vehicles that were previously registered in salt belt states but are currently registered elsewhere are eligible to be inspected and repaired.

EngineSep 10, 2015
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to April 12, 2012 at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and equipped with either a 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engine. In the affected vehicles, metallic debris may not have been fully removed during manufacturing of the engine crankshaft. If the debris was not completely removed, oil flow may be restricted through the connecting rod bearings, causing connecting rod damage. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine and possible engine failure.
Engine failure would result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the engine assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Additionally, Hyundai Motor America will increase the warranty for the engine sub-assembly (short block) to 10 years/120,000 miles for both original and subsequent owners of 2011 and 2012 Sonatas manufactured at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama equipped with 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engines. Interim notifications were mailed to owners starting on October 8, 2015. A second notification will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059 or by visiting www.HyundaiUSA.com/Campaign132. Hyundai's number for this recall is 132.

Power train, automatic transmissionJul 18, 2014
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin.
If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the connection between the shift cable and shift lever, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 123.

Service brakes, hydraulicJul 18, 2014
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured from December 11, 2009, through September 1, 2010. The affected vehicles may experience a brake fluid leak from the two brake lines that connect the brake system's master cylinder to the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) due to insufficient seal between the inner brake hose and metal brake line fitting.
If the brake lines leak brake sufficient fluid, the brake warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate and longer stopping distance will be required, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake hoses with a revised service part, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 122.

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

The connection between the brake light and the socket is very poor and the motion of the vehicle often causes them to go out. I have replaced the bulbs and sockets multiple times and I find myself routinely conducting this same repair. This is a safety issue as functioning brake lights are a crucial safety feature for night time driving. I have had this issue diagnosed and repaired by an auto service professional a year ago and I am still having the same problem recur. No warning lights come on when the brake lights fail so I am required to routinely check them myself.

My husband took car to Rainbow City, AL location to have some recalls fixed. 2wks later we go to pick up the car & as we go to to leave, me following behind him, I noticed passenger brake light out. I call & tell him, then I notice the middle brake light isn’t going off at all- it’s staying lit. I then notice, when he adjusted the headlights the passenger brake light came on & driver side brake light went off. But middle brake light wasn’t going off, it continued to stay on. I looked it up & it’s a known issue with this model. I then look up for any further recalls and yes there are but my vin isn’t attached to this recall as it obviously should be. We took it back to dealer & call then go rounds with them and they blame it to be cold weather, absurd, but looking into this issue it could result in an accident if driving because I nearly rear ended my husband not knowing if he was on the brakes or not on his way back to the dealership service center. I also know if the car recognizes the brakes to be pressed while actually driving it could easily jump out of gear! Being that the lights no matter if altering sides when on stated off as if someone we’re staying on the brakes. This needs to be added to your recall listing immediately! I’m afraid of driving it! I’m definitely not putting my children in this vehicle! Please help! You may respond to me via email traci688@gmail.com . Thank You, Traci

The ABS system just stopped working while driving, loud brake warning beeps and the brakes stopped functioning making a vibrating sound then stopped working all together, I pulled over as safe as i could and found no leaks , fluid is good. started the car again and after 2 minutes did it again... was told by hyundai that a new abs modulator will be needed but it could not be reset to the computer so I would need a new ECU as well to match....are you kidding,,,thousands of dollars of work and labor ,,,,"""FOR BRAKES,""",,, I bought a money pit not a car...

on my 2011 hyundai sonata BOTH of my brake light bulbs and wiring caught fire and started smoking from the inside of my trunk. I have notified Hyundai of this and they refused to do anything about it even though it is an EXTREMELY dangerous issue that hyundai should fix free of charge!!!!! Now i have no brake lights on my vehicle because of this !!!!!!

Without warning, the Sonata stalls while in motion: - the brake pedal goes close to the floor, - the CHECK BRAKE light goes on, - the emergency brake audio alarm and light go on, - the READY light between the fuel and temperature gauges blinks. I have to pull over and turn the car off / on in order to get the car functional again. The speed of the car doesn't seem to matter. This has occurred 11 times over the past year, including 6 times today (7/22/2021) within a span of 15 min, while at speeds between 30- 60 mph. I took the car to the dealer (initially on 6/22/2021). There were no diagnostic error codes and they could not reproduce the problem. I called Hyundai, both on 6/22/2021 and today, to file a report. Hyundai did not provide any insights into the issue. Online, I have read of others having this same issue with Sonatas. Some believe a faulty power brake booster to be the cause.

THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW. AND I HAVE DRIVEN AROUND SEEING MANY OTHER HYUNDAI SONATAS WITH HE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I HIT MY BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OUT. I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THEM TO GO OUT (PULLING MY BRAKE UPWARDS WITH MY FOOT). THIS HAS RESULTED IN MY LIGHTS STAYING ON AND MY CAR DYING A FEW TIMES. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS OTHERS ARE NOT ABLE TO TELL WHEN I AM BRAKING BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WIHTOUT PUTTING MY FOOT UNDER THE BRAKE AND PULLING UP ON IT.

I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN WHO IN 2015 PURCHASED A PRE-OWNED 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED 15 RECALLS IN THE TIME I'VE OWNED IT MOST OF WHICH ARE LIFE THREATENING SAFETY ISSUES , COMPLETE MOTOR LOCK UP , SUDDEN LOSS OF FUEL AND STALLING.(BRAKE STOPPER PAD MALFUNCTION 3 TIMES), SEAT BELT ANCHOR FAILURE, COMPLETE SAFETY AIR BAG FAILURE, EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILURE, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE LEAKS, MY WIFE AND I LIVE ON VERY LIMITED SOCIAL SECURITY MONTHLY BENEFITS AND NOT IN A POSITION TO AFFORD A NEW CAR OR REPEATEDLY HAVE TO SPEND 100'S OF DOLLARS EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR REPAIRS DUE TO MANUFACTURE ERROR / DAMAGE IN CONSTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE BEEN NEARLY KILLED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE MOTOR EITHER CEASES TO GET FUEL WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY OR ENTERING SUCH ON AN ONRAMP JUST AS A SEMI TRUCK AND TRAILER APPROACHED AT 70 MPH AND WE HAD NO FUEL ACCELERATION. ON YET ANOTHER NEAR FATAL SITUATION THE MOTOR LOCKED UP COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY FOUR LANE HIGHWAY, WHICH IMMEDIATELY RESULTED IN A A FIRE UNDER OUR HOOD.........ALL CAUSED BY THE DEFICIENCY OF THE ENGINE WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL AND WE WERE TOLD HAD BEEN ADDRESSED. THE FIRE DESTROYED MOST ALL OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, SOME AT OUR EXPENSE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AND WE HAD TO PAY $3500.00 TO REPAIR......FYI, WE LIVE ON 1700.00 PER MONTH SOCIAL SECURITY AND THIS CAUSED US A VERY EXTREME FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY FOR MONTHS THEREAFTER . THERE IS MORE TO OUR DISASTROUS EXPERIENCE AS A HYUNDAI SONATA PRODUCT OWNER AND WHAT WE'RE WISHING FOR IS THAT HYUNDAI MIGHT BUY BACK THIS VEHICLE AT FAIR PRICE SO THAT WE MAY FIND A SAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING STRANDED, INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT OR KILLED. OTHER SONATA OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY OF THESE SAME ISSUES.*DT *DT*JB

I BOUGHT THIS CAR 3 YEARS AGO. EVER SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, IT MAKES LOUD CLICKING NOISES WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. IN THE 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES 4 TIMES, THE BRAKES AND ROTORS MULTIPLE TIMES PER YEAR, TIE RODS, AND CV JOINTS AND YET THE CAR STILL CLICKS WHEN YOU TURN. I HAD THE ENGINE RECALL DONE IN MAY OF THIS YEAR. THEY GAVE ME THE CAR BACK A MONTH LATER. I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK THE VERY NEXT DAY BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF OIL AND MAKING A CLANKING NOISE THAT WAS NOT PRESENT WHEN I LEFT MY VEHICLE WITH THEM FOR A MONTH. THEY "FIXED" THE OIL LEAK AND TOLD ME THE NOISE WAS FROM MY FRONT BRAKES YET AGAIN. I HAD TO RETURN THE CAR AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER BECAUSE IT WAS STILL LEAKING OIL! SO THEY "FIXED" THE LEAK A 2ND TIME AND AGAIN SAID THE NOISE WAS FROM MY BRAKES. LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS JUST A "LOOSE GAS CAP" WHICH I NEVER EXPERIENCED PRIOR TO THE ENGINE BEING REPLACED. THEY CLEARED THE LIGHT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I HAD BRAND NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS PUT ON, AGAIN, AND YET THE CLANKING NOISE IS STILL THERE. 5 DAYS AGO, THE CAR BEGAN DRIVING THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE THE ENGINE RECALL, SAME ENGINE FAILURE SYMPTOMS AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON A SECOND TIME 3 DAYS AGO. I HAVE NOT HAD TO FILL IT UP WITH GAS IN 8 DAYS SO THERE IS NO WAY THAT IT IS FROM A "LOOSE GAS CAP." MY SEAT BELT LOCKS UP AND STAYS LOCKED UP IF I LEAN FORWARD. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I HAD TO INFORM THE MANAGER THAT THE FRONT BUMPER WAS ONLY ATTACHED TO THE CAR BECAUSE SOMEONE DRILLED SCREWS INTO IT TO KEEP IT ON. HE HAD NO IDEA!! I MADE THEM REPLACE IT BEFORE I WOULD BUY THE VEHICLE. THE PAINT IS CONSTANTLY CHIPPING OFF OF THE "NEW BUMPER" THEY PUT ON IT.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2013 FOR THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN GURNEE IL. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT RECALLS, AND ISSUES. ALL OF THE RECALLS FOR THIS YEAR AND AFFECTED MY CAR AS IN THE WARNING THEY WAY MAY HAPPEN ACTUALLY HAPPEN TO ME. MY ENGINE SEIZED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH 2 KIDS IN THE CAR ON A BUSY STREET AND I WAS ALMOST RE ENDED AS A RESULT ONLY TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP TELL ME IT WASN'T THE RECALL! THEN LATER THEY HAD TO FIX IT AFTER I WORK TO CORPORATE BECAUSE IT WAS THE 132 CAMPAIGN RECALL. THE 3 DEALERSHIP I HAVE DEALT WITH ARE ALL RUDE NONE WANT TO ACTUALLY FIX YOUR CAR OR HELP YOU BECAUSE ITS RECALL WORK NOT ACTUALLY WORK THAT THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF. NOW AS OF TODAY MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AFTER THE "FIXED" THE NEWEST SAFETY RECALL, WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THEY FIXED THE ISSUE SO I WILL BE CHARGED $139.99 FOR THEM TO EVEN LOOK AT IT. WHEN WILL HYUNDAI BE ACTUALLY HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF THESE CAR ISSUES THEY ARE ALL SAFETY. SO FAR THE RECALLS HAVE BEEN FOR THE ENGINE, SEAT BELTS, BRAKES, AIR BAGS, BODY CORROSION, AND SO ON! I THOUGHT THERE WAS LEMON LAW IN PLACE TO REMEDY THIS, HYUNDAI PRODUCT FAULTY VEHICLES WITH THE MODEL YEAR 2011 AND THE CONSUMER IF THE ONE LOSE AND SPENDING OUT OF POCKET. I HAD EVEN CALLED CORPORATE BEFORE THIS TO TRY AND REMEDY THE ISSUE MYSELF AND WAS TOLD THEY ARE SORRY SOME WILL CALL IN 3-5 DAYS. AT THIS POINT I AM A MOTHER DRIVING AROUND WITH CHILDREN IN A VEHICLE THAT MAY OR MAY NOT POP THE AIR BAGS WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE OR THEY WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I DO GET IN AN ACCIDENT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THESE CARS THEY ARE NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVING AT ANY GIVEN TIME ANOTHER RECALL CAN CAUSE A MAJOR SAFETY RELATED CRASH OR DEATH AT THIS POINT. I HAVE HAD WAY TO MANY CLOSE CALL WITH MYSELF OR MY KIDS LIVES AT RISK DUE TO HYUNDAI LACK OF CARE FOR THEIR CONSUMERS.

I HAD SMELLING A GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE VENTS ON FRIDAY JULY 19TH ANDI TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE FOR A NEW BATTERY AND A OIL CHANGE. I CALLED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BECAUSE FIRESTONE TOLD ME ABOUT A NEW RECALL FOR THE FIRE PRESSURE FUEL REGULATOR AND THEY HIGHLY SUGGESTED I TAKE IT INTO THEM. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID FOR ME TO BRING IT IN AND I DIDN'T NEED AN APPOINTMENT SO I TOLD THEM I WOULD BE THERE AROUND 3-4PM YESTERDAY. SO I LEFT WORK EARLY, PICKED UP MY CAR FROM FIRESTONE AND HEADED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY. I GOT ON I-35 DOING ABOUT 40MPH OR SO BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR NEXT TO ME STARTS HONKING AND WAVING SAYING MY CARS OF FIRE. I TRY TO APPLY THE BREAK BUT THERE WAS NO PRESSURE. MY INSTRUMENT COLUMN LIT UP LIKE THE 4TH OF JULY AND THEN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY SMOKE STARTS COMING IN FROM THE VENTS, DASHBOARD AND FLOOR. SO MY ONLY OPTION IS TO TUCK AND ROLL DOING ABOUT 35-40MPH ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS IN AUSTIN. SO I TUCK AND ROLL, PEOPLE ARE STOPPED TO HELP. I SEE MY CAR CONTINUE TO ROLL INTO THE BARRIER AND WHILE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES.

RECALL CODE 136, BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. THIS DOES NOT SHOW UP IN MY HISTORY OF RECALLS FOR MY SONATA. THE VEHICLE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON AFTER FULL RELEASE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. BRAKE LIGHTS MAY SHOW OFF, CAR IS THEN SHUT OFF. 2 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON (NOT ALL THE TIME, BUT FREQUENT ENOUGH). THIS IS A REOCCURRING EVENT.

I WAS DRIVING WEST ON SUNNYSIDE ROAD AFTER LEAVING THE PARKING LOT OF NEW SEASONS. I COULD SEE THAT THE LIGHT WAS RED AND I PULLED OUT ONTO SUNNYSIDE ROAD. IT WAS ABOUT 200 FEET TO THE TRAFFIC THAT WAS STOPPED. I WAS DOING ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT GOING TO STOP. I PUSHED HARD ONTO THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR CONTINUED FOREWARD UNDER THE PICKUP IN FRONT OF ME. EVEN WITH THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED I HAD NO CONTROL. I WAS PUSHING THE TRUCK FOREWARD. THE OTHER DRIVER TURNED ONTO 157TH AVE AND I WAS STILL UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR. I ALSO TURNED RIGHT ONTO 157TH AVE. IT WAS UP HILL I TURNED OFF THE KEY AND IT CAME TO A STOP. MY WIFE WAS PANNICKING AND SO WAS I. THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND A LOT OF HEAT. MY WIFE WAS SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE TO CALL 911. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK RUSHED BACK TO SEE IF WE WERE ALL OK. HE CALLED 911. MY WIFE WAS SORE AS THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND HIT HER IN THE CHEST. SHE HAD PAIN IN HER NECK TOO. I WAS OK AT THE MOMENT. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE OTHER DRIVER. HE SAID THAT HE WAS FINE. HE SAID THAT HE HAD TO HONK HIS HORN TO GET THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM TO MOVE. THEY DID AND HE WAS ABLE TO TURN RIGHT. I AM UPSET WITH RON TONKIN HYUNDAI AS I HAVE HAD TO WAIT ALMOST A MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY OIL CHANGE AND THE RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. THE FIRST RECALL WAS FOR THE AIR BAGS. THE SECOND RECALL WAS FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PIPE MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED MISALIGNED OR IMPROPERLY TORQUED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED ALLOWING THE FUEL TO LEAK. I AM VERY UPSET WITH RON TONKIN HYUNDAI AS I HAVE HAD TO WAIT FOR ALMOST A MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT. JENNIFER LOPEZ THE SERVICE ADVISOR. MY APPOINTMENT WAS SET FOR JUNE 26TH 4 DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. I WENT IN TO CHANGE THE CARS AS I HAVE A 2004 ELANTRA. I HAVE FREE OIL CHANGES ON BOTH CARS. SHE TOLD ME THAT THE RECALLS WERE NOT THE REASON AND ASKED ME IF I WAS GOING TO BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI.

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWNTOWN AND MY EPS LIGHT CAME ON ALONG AS WELL AS FLICKERING OF MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE AND ABS LIGHT WHICH I BELIEVE IS BREAKS FAILING. BUT I HAD FAILURE OF MY POWER STEERING FOR SURE. OUT OF NOWHERE I COULD NO LONGER NAVIGATE HEAVY AND SLOW TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON ONLY TO HAVE ALL OF MY GEARS LOCK UP AND NOT ALLOW ME TO EVEN ATTEMPT AT MOVING IT, AFTER TURNING IT OFF THE SECOND TIME CAR ENTIRELY DIED AND WILL NOT START AT ALL. WE MANAGED TO GET THE GEARS UNLOCKED AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS WITH JUST THE BATTERY ON AND PUSH IT OFF THE BUSY ROAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. I SEE ONLINE THAT THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA HAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING FAILURE BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED BUT I AM DEFINITELY EFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 16V190000
