Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2013-2014 Santa Fe Sport vehicles previously repaired under recall numbers 15V-568 and 17V-226. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak from the pipe.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pipe, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's recall number for this recall is 180.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. On February 27, 2018, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) notified NHTSA that they were recalling 154,753 model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. On April 18, 2018, Hyundai expanded the recall to include an additional 425,305 model year 2012-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying.
If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install an external wire filter kit, free of charge. The recall began October 15, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 174.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles previously repaired under recall campaign 17V-152. The seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
If the seat belt linkage detaches from the seat belt anchorage, it can not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will again verify the connection between the seat belt linkage and the pretensioner and additionally install a warning label to prevent future seat belt linkage detachment, free of charge. In the event of a crash, if the seat belts detach from the anchor pretensioners, it can increase the risk of injury.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released.
If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to rearward following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 136.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to April 12, 2012 at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and equipped with either a 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engine. In the affected vehicles, metallic debris may not have been fully removed during manufacturing of the engine crankshaft. If the debris was not completely removed, oil flow may be restricted through the connecting rod bearings, causing connecting rod damage. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine and possible engine failure.
Engine failure would result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the engine assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Additionally, Hyundai Motor America will increase the warranty for the engine sub-assembly (short block) to 10 years/120,000 miles for both original and subsequent owners of 2011 and 2012 Sonatas manufactured at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama equipped with 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engines. Interim notifications were mailed to owners starting on October 8, 2015. A second notification will be mailed when parts are available. Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin.
If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Hyundai Sonata passenger cars, manufactured from January 24, 2012, through June 21, 2012. The curtain side airbags on these vehicles may inflate without deployment command due to an error during manufacturing.
The curtain airbag may inflate without deployment command and increase the risk of injury to occupants of the vehicle. Additionally, an unexpected deployment would be a significant driver distraction and would limit the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

About 1 month after I bought this vehicle, late December 2021, a warning light came on the hybrid screen, it read "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop And Do Not Drive!" The accelerator was not working I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. I waited a couple minutes and restarted it up again and went on my merry way. About a month later it happened again!! It's happened about every 5 weeks until June 16th at about 5pm, it now permanently chimes and beeps with the Hybrid screen warning me of the same, my foot brake goes to the bottom and makes a grinding noise. I am not able to drive it more than 100 yards or so then the accelerator fails again. I owned a mechanic shop and I know my brakes are fine, there has to be something wrong with the brake pumps/master cylinder, the brake fluid reservoir is full and the brakes electrical components make a horrible noise when I depress the foot pedal, I've read on Hyundai Forum on-line, that this has happened to various others, its happened on the freeway while I was going about 70mph!! It's happened on busy city streets with 45mph speed limits. Hyundai doesn't want to take any responsibility for it! What can I do? Original Report: 1/28/22 to HyundaiUSA Problem with car started day after alignment. First noticed (while going up driveway) pressing accelerator did nothing - press again then OK. Got out to open gate, noticed brake lights on. Later (after dark), came out and brake lights on. Driving home noticed ESC light on - ESC off button had no effect. I found this exact description on "CarComplaints.com" from 2019 and it references recall #136. Next day I cranked the car, and the "ESC off" indicator came on. I was then able to turn off with the ESC off button. Update: 1/29/22 Next day same issue with brake light. Able to reset ESC light but it came back on after driving about 15 miles. I noticed that the issue with the sudden deceleration occurred while going 55 mph. It happened about 3 times in the 5 mile return trip. Releasing the accelerator pedal then pressing again provided acceleration. When I got out of the car, the brake light remained on. Update 1/30/22 The ESC light reset itself automatically when I cranked the car. While warming up the car in the garage, the brake light came on and I tapped the brake to turn off. This happened 4 times. I was pulling out of a side road onto a busy road with limited sight of oncoming traffic. As I started out, the acceleration died, and a car came around the curve/hill. I managed to release the accelerator and re-apply and got out of the driver’s way – he was able to slow down enough to avoid an accident. Issue happened several times while driving to my destination. A few minutes after going inside, the car security horn started sounding. I used the remote to turn off. I went back in, and it started blowing again. I pulled the fuse for the horn from under the hood. The ESC light did not come back on during this trip but the brake light did numerous times. My research found that the brake light switch has been blamed for some of these issues. But a faulty brake light switch would prevent engaging gear shift.

The car hesitates when excelerating. The car has had this problem since I purchased the vehicle. I have reported to the Hyuandai dealership within in a few days of purchasing it. They told me it was normal. It has been in and out of the dealership many times and they finally told me ithey installed the knock sensor device which helped for a short time but it’s gotten worse. It hesitates so bad at times I almost got struck from the side because my car got stuck in the middle of the road because it wouldn’t go.

The cars engine burn oil very quickly and runs improperly. The car jerks when attempting to accelerate normally and deaccelerates when driving at normal speeds which can cause an accident with ongoing traffic.

I started the car and immediately got a chiming sound with an error message "hybrid system warning! Safety stop and do not drive" brake light also came on. I put the in drive and Car would not accelerate past 15 mph and the brakes did not engage. I turned the car off and the message reset. Same issue occured about a month ago but the dealership could not replicate the problem.

I WAS IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT POPPED ON AND IT WAS TOLD IT ENDED UP BEING THE CAMSHAFT. ON MY WAY TO SHOP THE NEXT DAY MY CAR CUT OFF ON THE INTERSTATE AND EVERYTHING WORKED BUT CAR WOULD NOT CRANK. WAS TOLD IT WAS ENGINE. I HAD NO WARNING AND YES MY OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED.

2012 HYUNDAI SONATA ON MAY 8,2020 HYUNDAI REPLACED MY ENGINE DUE TO A RECALL .ON AUGUST 18,2020 I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SMELL OF GAS THAT I SMELLED IN MY CAR . THEY INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AND SAID IT WAS FINE . BUT EVERY SO OFTEN I KEPT SMELLING GAS INSIDE MY CAR BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY LIGHT TURNED ON AND PLUS I THOUGHT IT WAS FINE SINCE HYUNDAI INSPECTED MY CAR BUT FEBRUARY 4, 2021 I WAS PARKED WITH MY VEHICLE RUNNING AND THE FUEL SMELL STARTED GETTING WORSE , ENTERING MY VEHICLE THROUGH THE AIR VENT. MY VEHICLE WOULD SMELL LIKE GAS EVEN WHEN IT WAS TURNED OFF . SO I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND I HEARD LOUD BOILING BUBBLE NOISES INSIDE MY CAR WHICH IS STRANGE. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TURNED MY CAR ON AND THEN MY THERMOSTAT MAXED OUT ALL THE WAY TO HOT SO I SHUT MY CAR OFF . I CALLLED HYUNDAI & TOOK MY CAR TO THE PALM SPRINGS DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSPECTED IT AND TOLD ME THAT IT'S THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PIPE . MY VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD $1000.00 TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT'S A RECALL. ESPECIALLY SINCE I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE GAS SMELL ON AUGUST 2020 . I HAD A VERY SCARY INCIDENT FRIDAY NIGHT, 12/18/20 ABOUT 8:30PM. I WAS ABOUT TO MERGE ONTO THE 5 FWY NORTH TO GO HOME, AND AS I AM COMING OUT OF THE TURN, AND ACCELERATING TO ANTICIPATE THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, I SEE A BIG RIG IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR IN THE DISTANCE. NATURALLY, I STEP ON THE GAS TO PUNCH IT, TO GIVE MYSELF AND THE RIG PLENTY OF DISTANCE AS TO NOT COLLIDE. MY CAR REVVED UP AND DECELERATES TO ABOUT 2MPH . I PANICKED AND MANAGED TO COAST THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER AS FAR RIGHT AS I COULD AND THE RIG BARRELS DOWN PAST ME. I WAS AFRAID TO COMPLETELY STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FWY, AND THE CAR LASTED LONG ENOUGH TO COAST TO THE NEXT EXIT. I AM ABLE TO CONTINUE STEERING MY CAR CLOSE TO THE SHOULDER AT A CRAWLING PACE, AND TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I HAD PEOPLE MAD BEHIND ME, BUT I COULD NOT SPEED UP. I MANAGED TO COAST TO THE NEAREST EXIT, COME DOWN THE RAMP, AND STOP BRIEFLY WITH JUST ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO STEER LEFT ONTO TELEGRAPH IN COMMERCE, AND MY CAR COMPLETELY DIES IN THE FIRST LANE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY CAR JUST DIES ON ME WHILE I AM DRIVING! FIRST TIME WAS THREE YEARS AGO IN DECEMBER 2017 . THE CAR HAD INITIALLY DIED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. HOWEVER, AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND WAITING A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND DRIVE NO MORE THAN 30 MPH TO THE SAME DOWNEY HYUNDAI. THE ISSUE WAS UNDER FULL WARRANTY AND REPAIRED, BUT NOW A SECOND TIME? WORSE YET, THIS HAPPENED WHILE EXCELERATING ONTO THE FREEWAY. I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE AROUND IN A CAR THAT HAS REPEATED RECALLS FOR VARIOUS ISSUES. I ALSO DON'T WANT TO WORRY OF MY CAR DYING ON ME A THIRD TIME. MY SONATA IS CURRENTLY AT DOWNEY HYUNDAI AND THEY HAVE STARTED DIAGNOSTICS AND WILL HAVE A BETTER READING AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. MY ENGINE THREW A ROD AT APPROX. 85000 MILES (10/2019). HYUNDAI REPLACED THE SHORT BLOCK BUT SINCE THEN I CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY CAR. AFTER THEY REPLACED THE SHORT BLOCK AND I PICKED MY CAR UP, THE CAR SEEMED TO BE RUNNING LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING CONSISTENT FUEL LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON. WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE CAR SEEMS TO LURCH AT RANDOM TIMES AND THIS ISSUE HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT THIS (WHAT I CALL LURCHING) MAKES THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF. ONE TIME I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE FREEWAY AND THE WARNING BELLS AND WHISTLES WENT OFF, THE CAR STALLED, THEN RESTARTED ITSELF WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE MOST RECENT TIME (10/26/20 - 11/10/20), THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 6 WEEKS, THEY DID NOT FIX IT. THEY PUT 337 MILES ON MY CAR WHILE THEY HAD IT AND I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT TO THEM SINCE THE BEGINNING, AFTER I DROVE IT 38 MILES. THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIND WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR OR FIX IT. 10/2019 THREW ROD - REPLACED SHORT BLOCK SEE ATTACHED 1/3/2020 REPLACED HSG BELT - DID NOT FIX ISSUE SEE ATTACHED DATE UNKNOWN - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF BEFORE THEY COULD RUN CODES.UNABLE TO FIND ISSUES - DID NOTHING NO PAPERWORK 7/3/2020 - UNABLE TO DUPLICATE CONCERNS, PROVIDED SOFTWARE UPDATES. 8/20/2020 I CALLED SAN TAN HYUNDAI AND TOLD THEM I CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I TOLD THEM I NEEDED A LOANER CAR AS I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. I WAS ADVISED THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE AVAILABLE BUT WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY DID. THEY NEVER CALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN ON 10/25 WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN SO I TOOK IT TO THEM 10/26. MY CAR BROKE DOWN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING A LUNCH RUSH DUE TO AN ENGINE ROD KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE AND EVEN SITTING STILL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I WAS SCARED MY CAR WOULD BE HIT BY ANY OF THE 70-80MPH CARS EXITING THE RAMP BEHIND ME. I TRIED JOINING THE CLASS ACTION SUIT BUT FOR SOME REASON, EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE SAME ENGINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, HYBRIDS AREN'T A PART OF THE SUIT.

MY CAR STALLS, LAGS AND SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND HAS A STRONG SCENT OF EXHAUST AND USES AN AWFUL AMOUNT OF OIL BUT THERE ARE NO VISIBLE OIL LEAKS. THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE MUFFLER SHOP WHO STATES NO EXHAUST LEAKS ARE FOUND. MY LOCAL GATEWAY AND MIKE MORGAN HYUANDI SAYS IT THROWS NO CODES WHEN PUT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE SO I CANT FIND OUT THE ISSUE. HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS CONSISTENTLY BURN OUT, REAR TAIL LAMPS CAUSED MELTING OF THE ASSEMBLY ON BOTH SIDES NEAR WHERE THE SOCKET GOES. RECTIFIED REAR LAMP ISSUE USING LOWER WATTAGE LEDS, NOT A SOLUTION FOR THIS BUT A BAND AID. CAR AUTOMATIC LOCKS HAVE CEASED WORKING, FAN ASSEMBLY CUT ON AND OFF CAUSING FAILURE OF RADIATOR. BUTTONS ON STEERING WHEEL ACTIVATE WRONG SETTINGS OFTEN WHEN USED. HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP STOPPED FUNCTIONING, ONLY LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM REMAINS. I HAD A RECALL DONE ON MY HYUNDAI SONATA 2012 FOR THE FUEL PIPE. I TOOK IT IN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN RICHLAND HILLS ABOUT A YEAR AGO, BEFORE COVID19 I BELIEVE BECAUSE I DON'T RECALL WEARING A MASK. THEY WERE EXTREMELY RUDE TO ME AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SO I LEFT THERE WITHOUT KNOWING IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM OR NOT WITH MY CAR. NOW A FEW MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE AN THEY SAID MY FUEL PIPE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT AREN'T HONORING THE RECALL AND ARE SAYING I MUST PAY FOR THE FUEL PIPE MYSELF.

HAVING PURCHASED THE AFOREMENTIONED VIN LAST MONTH, THE BREAK LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN THO THE CAR IS OFF, THUS DRAINING THE BATTERY. WITH A HEIGHTENED FEAR OF BEING REAR-ENDED, OR WORSE, FOR THE NOW WE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE. THIS WEEK MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FUEL LINE CRACK WHERE THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONNECTS TO THE DIRECT INJECTION FUEL PUMP. THE SMELL OF GAS WAS EVIDENT WITHIN THE CABIN WHILE BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION, AND I COULD SEE VAPOR RISING FROM THE PROXIMAL PORTION OF THE HOOD WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE GAS LEAK COULD BE VISUALIZED UPON STARTING THE CAR. UPON OPENING THE HOOD, I NOTED THE GAS LEAK AROUND THE CRACKED PLASTIC CONNECTION. THE FUEL LINE WAS THE ORIGINAL GENUINE HYUNDAI PART. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT WITH A SUPERIOR (NON-PLASTIC) FUEL LINE. THE LACK OF QUALITY IN THE ORIGINAL FUEL LINE IS CONCERNING BECAUSE IT PLACED MY FAMILY DIRECTLY AT RISK TO EXPERIENCE A DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLY FATAL FIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WAS ALSO AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ORIGINAL LINE WHICH IS WHY THEY REPLACED IT WITH A DIFFERENT PART. VEHICLE GAVE A WARNING THAT THE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILED AND TO SAFELY LEAVE THE ROAD AND STOP DRIVING. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER AND BEFORE I COULD LEAVE THE ROADWAY, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. NOT EVEN ENOUGH POWER FOR HAZARD LIGHTS.

I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A CLOCK SPRING RECALL. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS CAUSED BY THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL/YR VEHICLE.

I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID IT MAY BE WHEEL ALIGNMENT OR BALL POINT WHEN STEERING. I TOOK IT FOR A 2ND OPINION, AND THE SAME THING WAS STATED. I CALLED MY INSURANCE GEICO, AND THEY TOLD ME THER WAS A RECALL.

WAS DRIVING ON MAJOR STREET WITH NO WARNING THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR INTERSECTION. WE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN WITH NO LUCK. GAS HAND SHOWED WE HAD GAS IN THE VEHICLE, SO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. NOT SURE IF THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE FUEL SYSTEM, HOWEVER THIS WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. STALLED VEHICLE HAD TRAFFIC BACK UP ON VERY BUSY OVERPASS INTERSECTION.
