Fuel system, gasoline, delivery, hoses, lines/piping, and fittingsMay 6, 2022
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Sonata vehicles. The low pressure fuel hose that connects the low pressure fuel pump to the direct injection fuel pump may crack over time, due to heat generated within the engine compartment.
A cracked fuel hose may leak fuel, which can increase the risk of a fire.
Dealers will replace the low pressure fuel hose, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 10, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 227. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 20V-121. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 20V-121 that did not receive a replacement fuel hose will need to have this new recall remedy performed.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2013-2014 Santa Fe Sport vehicles previously repaired under recall numbers 15V-568 and 17V-226. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak from the pipe.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pipe, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's recall number for this recall is 180.

Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 27, 2018
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. On February 27, 2018, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) notified NHTSA that they were recalling 154,753 model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. On April 18, 2018, Hyundai expanded the recall to include an additional 425,305 model year 2012-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying.
If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install an external wire filter kit, free of charge. The recall began October 15, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 174.

Seat belts, pretensionerOct 4, 2017
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles previously repaired under recall campaign 17V-152. The seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
If the seat belt linkage detaches from the seat belt anchorage, it can not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will again verify the connection between the seat belt linkage and the pretensioner and additionally install a warning label to prevent future seat belt linkage detachment, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 169.

Engine and engine cooling, engineMar 31, 2017
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Sonata and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. Machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine.
Bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine, replacing the engine short block, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 162.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
In the event of a crash, if the seat belts detach from the anchor pretensioners, it can increase the risk of injury.
Hyundai will notify owners and dealers will inspect the connection between the seat belt linkages and the seat belt anchor pretensioners, repairing them as necessary, free of charge. Power train, automatic transmissionJul 18, 2014
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin.
If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the connection between the shift cable and shift lever, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 123.

Air bags, side/windowJul 24, 2012
Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Hyundai Sonata passenger cars, manufactured from January 24, 2012, through June 21, 2012. The curtain side airbags on these vehicles may inflate without deployment command due to an error during manufacturing.
The curtain airbag may inflate without deployment command and increase the risk of injury to occupants of the vehicle. Additionally, an unexpected deployment would be a significant driver distraction and would limit the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai dealers will notify owners, and dealers will replace the curtain side airbags free of charge. This recall began on August 31, 2012. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA IN SEPTEMBER 2019 FROM HYUNDAI SUPERIOR NORTH IN FAIRFIELD OHIO. THERE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING OUTAGE WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT OVERHEATING AND BLOWING OUT. I REPLACED IT THREE TIMES( NOVEMBER 2019, TWICE IN JUNE 2020) SINCE MY PURCHASE. THE MOST RECENT REPLACEMENT IT BLEW OUT THE SAME DAY. I SEEN THERE ARE REVIEWS AND VIDEOS ON THE INTERNET STATING THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH 2013 SONATAS. THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD AND ILLEGAL OPERATION OF A VEHICLE IF PULLED OVER BY LAW ENFORCEMENT WHEN WILL A RECALL BE ISSUED AND RESOLVED? TO ADD TO THE BULB /ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. A MONTH AGO A RECALL LETTER WAS MAILED FOR OVEHEATING MOTOR WITH NO REMEDY IN PLACE TO FIX IT. I FEEL LIKE I PURCHASED A LEMON WITH ALL THE ISSUES STARTING TO PILE UP. MY CAR ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT. AS A FIRST TIME BUYER THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND BENEATH MY EXPECTATIONS FOR HYUNDAI. I NEED THESE RECALLS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY. SINCERELY, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *CC *TR

THERE ARE TEXT MESSAGES ON MY RADIO SCREEN AND EXTREMELY LOUD POPPING FROM THE ANTENNA AND IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS STARTLING AND DISTRACTING AND I HAVE ALMOST PLOWED INTO OTHER VEHICLES WHEN IT OCCURS BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE A GUNSHOT. THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT REAR ENDED IN 2018 SO I DON'T DISCOUNT THERE ISN'T AN UNDERLYING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I PAID FOR A NEW ANTENNA AND THE PROBLEM STILL PRESENT. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THE ISSUE CANNOT BE RESOLVED AND THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN SALVAGED POST ACCIDENT DUE TO THE LENGTHY PROCESS OF TRYING TO DETECT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE INSURER HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. I'M ASKING NOW, FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO ASSIST. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

MY FRONT AND PASSENGER DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS HAVE HAD THE LOCKING MECHANISM/ACTUATOR CABLES DETACH AND BREAK. REQUIRING ME TO HAVE A MECHANIC FORCEFULLY OPEN THE DOORS AND THEN REPLACE THE INTERNAL LOCKING ASSEMBLY AND CABLES AT A COST OF OVER $800 PER DOOR. ONE DOOR CABLE BROKE IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 AND THE SECOND DOOR, THE DRIVERS DOOR, JUST BROKE THIS FRIDAY 2/21/2020. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND IS KNOWN TO HAPPEN IN THIS VEHICLE AFTER WARRANTY IS OUT. IF THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT SOMEONE KNOWING THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO OPEN THEIR DOOR. I WORK WITH UBER AND LYFT AS A SECOND JOB AS WELL AND CANNOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF MECHANICAL ISSUE.

EL VEHICULO SONATA 2013 TIENE 134,000 MILLAS Y ESTA GASTANDO 1 CUARTO DE ACEITE POR CADA 600 MILLAS. ENTIENDO QUE ES UN PROBLEMA DE FABRICA YA QUE NO ES NORMAL QUE UN VEHICULO NUEVO ESTE GASTANDO ESTA CANTIDAD DE ACEITE PARA ESE MILLAJE. VARIOS MECANICOS ME HAN DICHO LO MISMO. QUE NO ES NORMAL PARA UN VEHICULO NUEVO. PRACTICAMENTE. TIENE TODOS LOS CAMBIOS DE ACEITE Y FILTRO CADA 3000 MILLAS Y TODOS LOS MANTENIMIENTOS AL DIA. SERIA BUENO QUE VERIFICARAN YA QUE EL VEHICULO NO HA DADO PROBLEMAS DE NADA ANTERIORMENTE, EXCEPT LA GASTAERA DE ACEITE QUE LE ESTOY PRESENTANDO ACTUALMENTE. EL VEHICULO LO UTILIZE DIARIAMENTE PARA MI TRABAJO Y NUNCA ME HA DADO PROBLEMAS.

THE TOP OF THE DASHBOARD CRACKED ABOUT 18 INCHES. OUR HYUNDAI SERVICE REP SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY THE AIRBAGS UNDER THE DASHBOARD EXPANDING FROM THE HEAT. HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE THE DASHBOARD, OBVIOUSLY MADE OF FAULTY MATERIAL. OUR REP SAID IT WOULD COST US $1,000.00. I'M AFRAID THAT AIRBAGS WILL CRACK IT COMPLETELY IN HALF AND THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT BE DRIVABLE.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR JERKED AND THE RPM GUAGE WENT TO ZERO AND THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED AND THE LOSS OF TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON UPON KILLING THE CAR AND RESTARTING IT IT DROVE FINE WITH NO PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO DEALER TO INSPECT AND TO CHECK AND FIX RECALLS AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY CHANGED THE OIL FOR THE RECALL ON MY VEHICHLE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH CAR SINCE IT WAS NOT ACTING UP AT THAT TIME. WEEK LATER IT DONE IT AGAIN AND TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK AND WAS TOLD IT CAME WITH CODE FOR CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND 10 MINUTES LATER WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM IT WAS A FAULTY ECM AND REPLACED IT. A WEEK LATER DONE THE EXACT SAME THING AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AFTER KEEPING IT FOR A MONTH. TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER AUTO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH CAR UNLESS IT WAS ACTING UP. NOW HERE I AM DRIVING A CAR THAT WILL ACT UP OCCASIONALLY AND NOW IT SEEMS THAT IT GETTING WORSE WHEN I STOPPED AND STARTED UP A HILL IT SOUNDED LIKE METAL ON METAL CLANGING AND HAVE VERY SUSPICIOUS FEELING IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GDI ENGINE RECALL BUT CANT GET ANYONE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS SINCE IT'S SO HARD TO DRIVE A CAR ACTING UP IN CITY LIMITS WHEN IT DOES NOT WANT TO GO UNLESS YOU GOT THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. UNSURE IF IT IS RECALL OR SOMETHING ELSE AND DEALERSHIP DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX

CAR SOMETIMES LOOSES POWER. WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDDLE FROM BEING STATIONARY WE HAVE TO PRESS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE CAR WILL SLOWLY ACCELERATE. WHEN BREAKING AND THE SPEED GETS BETWEEN 40-30 MPH THE CAR BUCKS. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE ANY CODES.

I HAVE OWNED MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA FOR 4 YEARS AND I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS 2- 3 TIMES EACH YEAR. IN MARCH OF 2019 I SPENT $197 FOR NEW BRAKE LIGHT BULBS. IT IS NOW AUGUST OF 2019 AND ALL OF MY LIGHTS ARE OUT, EVEN THE TOP LIGHT. MY MECHANIC HAS CONFIRMED THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE CONSTANT ISSUE INVOLVING BLOWN LIGHT BULBS. HE COULD NOT FIND A RECALL ON IT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER HYUNDAI SONATA AND ELANTRA OWNERS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.

PURCHASED USED 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID ON 1/18/2019. ON 5/22/19 HAD OIL CHANGED & REQUESTED DIAGNOSTIC DUE TO ACCELERATOR ISSUES AND HITTING HIGH SPEED BUMP. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED ALONG WITH CAR NOT STARTING ON 5/28 AND BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER ON 5/29/19. DEALER COULD NOT REPEAT ISSUE BUT REPLACED BATTERIES IN BOTH KEY FOBS. DROVE CAR TO CT (FROM NC) ON 7/12/19. CAR WAS FINE EXCEPT THE A/C WAS NOT COOLING WELL. TURNED CAR OFF & LET SIT FOR 10 MINS. IT WAS BETTER. ON 7/18/19 MY 17 YO WAS IN MOTION ON BUSY INTERSTATE 91 SOUTH IN CT. CAR DECELERATED & ALARMS RANG OUT. A WARNING ADVISED "HYBRID BATTERY FAILURE" & "SAFELY PULL OVER". SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE SIDE. HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL CAME & ADVISED HER TO START CAR AGAIN. LIGHTS CAME ON BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT. HAD CAR TOWED TO LIA HYUNDAI IN ENFIELD, CT. CALLED 7/19, LEFT MESSAGE RTC. I ASKED FOR MANAGER WHO ADVISED THE SAME & SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. I CALLED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA & GOT A TICKET NUMBER. WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS THE BATTERY THEY "MAY BE WILLING TO PAY AND MAY BE WILLING TO TOW CAR BACK TO NC ONCE COMPLETED" AGAIN IF APPROVED. NEED TECH TO SUBMIT A WORK ORDER REQ AND SPECIAL TOW REQUEST IF PRIOR AUTHORIZATION WAS APPROVED. ON 7/22 A DIAGNOSTIC WAS RAN & SENT TO HMA SHOWING HYBRID BATTERY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED HMA & WAS GIVEN A NATIONAL TEAM TICKET. SERVICE MANAGER RICH CALLED ON 7/29 ADVISING HYUNDAI IS REQUIRING MORE TESTS & WANTS PICTURES. HE CALLED BACK TO ADVISE THAT HYUNDAI IS NOW TELLING HIM TO JUST REPLACE THE SAFETY PLUG & RELAY SWITCH. ADVISED HYUNDAI WOULD PAY 60% AND WE WOULD NEED TO PAY 40%. COST WAS $1000 BUT PART NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK. I SPOKE TO NICOLETTE ON 7/29. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY PAY THE 60% AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE. CAR PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2019 AT 96610 MILES & ONLY DROVE TILL 104513.

WE NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE A SHORT TIME AGO. I CALLED PATERSON HYUNDAI IN ALTOONA PA TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO CHECK IT OUT. WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR OVER A WEEK LATER. I TOOK THE CAR TO JIFFY LUBE FOR AN OIL CHANGE YESTERDAY AND AFTER LEAVING THERE THE NOISE GOT LOUDER AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING SCREECHING NOISE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT TO PATERSON HYUNDAI WHICH WAS ONLY A FEW MILES AWAY. I MADE IT WITHIN A MILE OF THE GARAGE AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN. ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF A HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAY. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TO TRY TO START THE CAR. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO PATERSON HYUNDAI. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE GUY THIS MORNING AND HE SAID THE WOULD TRY TO GET IT INTO THE SHOP TODAY. HE ALSO SAID HE WOULD CHECK FOR RECALLS ON THE CAR. WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM AT ALL TODAY. I CHECKED THE RECALLS AND FOUND ONE ISSUED FOR MOTOR PROBLEMS ON MY VIN NUMBER. WE NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALL. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE.
