Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Power train, automatic transmissionJun 13, 2019
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.2L engines. In the event that a clutch becomes stuck in the transmission, the transmission software may shift the transmission to neutral.
An unexpected shift to neutral would result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began August 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

EquipmentDec 21, 2017
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. SeatsAug 10, 2016
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured July 29, 2013, to February 5, 2016. The seat fasteners on the first or second row seats may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification.
Loose fasteners may allow the seats to move, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupants in the event of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seats or seat sets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during September 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall S63.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

Equipment, electrical, radio/tape deck/cd etc.Jul 23, 2015
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

WE LOVE JEEPS...THIS IS OUR 10TH. BUT THE ONLY ONE WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH. ROUGH SHIFTING INTO 2 AND 3RD. AFTER 4 OR 5 DEALER VISITS THEY BASICALLY SAID; "LIVE WITH IT." JEEP CUSTOMER HELP COULDN'T HELP. ENGINE STOPPED THREE TIMES AT ABOUT 40 MPH, VERY DANGEROUS ALMOST LEMONED THE CAR OVER THIS SAFETY PROBLEM AND MY WIFE ALMOST DIVORCED ME ON THIS ONE...BUT JEEP CAME THOUGH AND GOT A FIX ON THIS. NOW THE JEEP IS UPSHIFTING AND ACCELERATING DRIVING DOWN HILL INTO CURVES AT ABOUT 50MPH. JEEP GUYS CAN'T DUPLICATE THIS AND BASICALLY SAID TO "LIVE WITH IT." TROUBLE IS, HOW CAN YOU LIVE WITH A CAR THAT MIGHT KILL YOU?
Vehicle speed control, Jan 25, 2016
AT HIGH ALTITUDE CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATED WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO GO DOWN HILL AND CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T DISENGAGE WHEN HIT THE BREAK OR TURN OFF CRUISE. HAD TO REK SEVERE TIMES BEFORE IT DISENGAGED. HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE ONLY AT HIGH (ABOVE 3000 FT) ALTITUDE

Power train, Jan 25, 2016
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT AROUND 40 MPH, MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. A MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING "TRANSMISSION NEEDS SERVICE" WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, PARKING BRAKE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALL COMING ON AT THE SAME TIME. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY AND INTO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. I AM VERY SURPRISED WE DID NOT GET HIT FROM BEHIND! WE HAVE HAD PRIOR ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SUCH AS HARD SHIFTING AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH INCREASINGLY HIGH RPMS WHILE THE CAR WAS COMING TO A STOP. WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BUT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT RECREATED THE ISSUE AND SAID THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS, THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS TO REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE REPROGRAM DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER LOOKING FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE, I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE.
Power train, Engine, Jan 24, 2016
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN SHUT OFF. THE "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER SENDING THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP, TWO DAYS LATER I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. THE TRUCK SHUT OFF WHEN I WAS TURNING INTO THE INTERSECTION WHILE TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL. SAME MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH. I'VE READ ONLINE THAT MANY JEEP CHEROKEE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2014, 37,688 MILES. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN THE SHOP, BUT I AM HONESTLY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE A VEHICLE AND TO HAVE IT JUST SHUT OFF ALL OF A SUDDEN DUE TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION BY THE MANUFACTURER.

Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 21, 2016
I STARTED MY CAR WITH PUSH BUTTON IGNITION AND IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED TO 4000 RPM AND STAYED AT THAT SPEED FOR OVER 20 MINUTES. DURING THAT TIME, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND COULD NOT SHIFT THE CAR. WHEN THE ENGINE FINALLY RETURNED TO A NORMAL IDLE SPEED, I COULD SHIFT THE CAR BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE ENGINE. I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED...THE ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING AT IDLE. I CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER IT SAT FOR AN HOUR OR SO , IT WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN ON TO THE FLATBED TRUCK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER 5 DAYS, THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON AND THERE WERE NO CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM. THEY DID NOTHING TO FIND OR ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND I'M CONCERNED THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE I'M DRIVING THE CAR. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE COULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY RUNNING CONTINUALLY AT 4OOO RPM FOR OVER 20 MINUTES.. I WOULD ASSUME THAT THIS EVENT WAS CAUSED BY A SOFTWARE PROBLEM, SO I AM CONFIDENT THAT IT WILL REOCCUR. FRNKLY, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR.

MY VEHICLE HAS HAD CONTINUOUS ISSUES OF JERKING/MISSING GEARS WHEN IT SHIFTS, WHEN I TOOK TO BE CHECKED I WAS TOLD IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE UNTIL THE ENGINE BLOWS UP. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY SORT OF ISSUES WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW. I HAVE ALSO NOW HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE NOT STARTING FROM BEING STATIONARY, MULTIPLE TIMES IT HAS NOT STARTED AFTER BEING OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, IE 24 HOURS, BUT ALSO NUMEROUS TIMES MY VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF COMPLETELY, NO LIGHTS, NO GAS, NO RADIO ETC. I WAS LUCKILY ON THE SIDE OF A NON-BUSY ROAD AT THAT TIME ABOUT TO TURN ONTO A MAIN ROAD. I HAD BOTH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I WAS UNABLE TO START MY VEHICLE FROM THIS NOW STATIONARY POSITION FOR APPROX. 15 MINUTES I SAT IDLE IN THE ROAD WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. ANOTHER TIME MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A BUSY INTERSECTION MY CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS TURNING AND I WAS ALMOST T-BONED MY VEHICLE STARTED UP AFTER TRYING A FEW TIMES AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD WAY. ONCE I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT TO COLLECT MYSELF, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN. IT TOOK APPROX. 4 TIMES TRYING TO START IT AGAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND WILL BE TAKING IT BACK, TO BE CHECKED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM THE FIRST TIME FOR IT TO BE CHECKED AS TO WHY IT SHUT OFF AND THEY COULD ONLY COME UP WITH THAT IT WAS LOW ON OIL, THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE, WHICH CLEARLY THE OIL WASN'T THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT 400 MILES SINCE THE OIL CHANGE.

FIRST - VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT INTO PARK AND I COULD NOT TURN IT OFF. WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED INTO THE DEALER. SECOND - WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE VEHICLE GAVE 5-6 BEEPS AND INFORMATION PANEL SAID, "RESTART VEHICLE AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION." THE CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. SHIFTING INTO PARK (TO RESTART THE VEHICLE) THE CAR VIBRATED AND JUMPED. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WAS ON, MESSAGE SAYS SERVICE TRANSMISSION, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON, AND THE D(RIVE) LIGHT WAS BLINKING. THIRD - ALL OF THE ABOVE AGAIN, EXCEPT EVERYONE ON THE EXPRESSWAY WAS MOVING AT 65-70 MILES PER HOUR, AND MY CAR STOPPED IN THE THIRD LANE. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AND IT IS GETTING VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND OTHER DRIVERS.

COMPOSITE MATERIAL THAT MAKES UP THESE WINDSHIELD WIPER SPRAYER NOZZELS MUST BE DEFECTIVE, AS THEY BUSTED DURING FREEZING WEATHER. WHILE MAKING A THANKSGIVING TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS MY JEEP WAS SUBJECT TO FREEZING WEATHER DURING THE NIGHT. I ALLWAYS KEEP APPROVED WINDOW WHIPER SOLUTION (NOT WATER) IN THE WIPER RESERVOIR. HOWEVER, THESE NOZZELS WERE NOT ABLE TO STAND UP TO THE FREEZING CONDITIONS AND THEREFORE BUSTED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT IT IS MY FAULT THAT SOMEONE (DON'T KNOW WHO) PUT WATER IN MY WIPER RESERVOIR AND THEREFORE IT IS MY FAULT! THE DEALER SAYS THAT HE WILL FIX THE PROBLE FOR ABOUT $200.00, PARTS AND LABOR. WELL GREAT!,...(NOT!) SO,...WHAT HAPPENS THE NEXT TIME I GO TO THE MOUNTAINS??? I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL (PLASTIC) IS DEFECTIVE FOR THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER JEEP TO REPLACE FOR FREE.

WE WERE COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND THE JEEP WENT OVER SOMETHING SLICK AND WE HAD A VERY SLIGHT SLIDE WHICH CAUSED AN ENGINE LIGHT TO STAY ON AND THE TRANSMISSION TO FREEZE UP. ENGINE STAYED RUNNING BUT TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO DRIVE. AFTER WE SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND WAITED A MINUTE WE DECIDED TO RESTART AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. AAA CALIFORNIA GAVE US A REPAIR SHOP TO GO TO AND THEY WERE ABLE TO RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT YET THEY HAD TOLD US THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS OCCASIONALLY WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION THINKS THAT ALL GEARS ARE ENGAGED THIS THE EXPLANATION THAT WE RECEIVED. THIS HAPPEN COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY, WHAT IF WE WERE IN THE SNOW OR HIGHWAY? WE ARE VERY CONCERNED.
Steering, Power train, Engine, Dec 31, 2015
AT FOUR DIFFERENT RANDOM OCCASIONS VEHICLE WILL DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION WHILE IN DRIVE AND BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE ONLY THING RESPONSIVE ARE THE BRAKES. THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT AS WELL AND THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION LIGHT AND PARKING LIGHT WILL APPEAR ON THE GAUGE DISPLAY. AFTER PULLING OVER ON THE HIGHWAY AND LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT OFF FOR 5 MINUTES, I WOULD THEN RESTART THE VEHICLE AND STILL GET A INDICATOR STATING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK WHEN IT IS ALREADY IN PARK. AFTERWARDS VEHICLE INDICATOR LIGHTS WOULD GO AWAY AFTER A FEW RESTARTS AND ONCE PUT IN DRIVE GEARS WOULD SHIFT ROUGHLY. AFTER MULTIPLE TIMES OF TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF THINGS WILL RETURN TO NORMAL BUT AS STATED BEFORE I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TRIGGERS THE TRANSMISSION TO DISENGAGE. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY AND HIGHWAY GOING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS.

WHEN CRUISING DOWN A HILL WITHOUT PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, SUV WILL SHIFT GEARS MANY DIFFERENT TIMES CAUSING THE JEEP TO LURCH FORWARD QUICKLY WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN TRYING TO PASS A CAR ON THE HWY, IT TAKES JEEP A FEW SECONDS TO "CATCH" THE GEAR AND MAKE IT GO FASTER. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES OF OTHER CARS HITTING ME AND ME, HITTING OTHERS DUE TO THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF SPEEDS AND JERKING FORWARD. I HAVE HAD THE SUV IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR "SOFTWARE UPDATES" AND TOLD THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IT HAS NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. MOST RECENT NEAR MISS WAS YESTERDAY 29 DEC DUE TO DOWNSHIFTING WILE MOVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND CAUSING THE SUV TO SLOW DRAMATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING. *JS
