Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

EquipmentDec 21, 2017
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Power train, automatic transmissionJul 12, 2016
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY ON HIGHWAY ROADS MOST TIMES WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN. WHEN ITS TIME TO GO YOU PUSH ON THE GAS IT DOSE NOT MOVE FOR A SECOND THEN LUNGES OR JERKS INTO GEAR,ALSO IN THE LOWER GEARS IT SEAMS TO NOT SHIFT WRIGHT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IT IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD OR FORTH TIME APRIL 10 / 2019. DEALER TELLS ME THEY CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 6, 2019
VEHICLE CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY, FLASHES MULTIPLE INDICATORS ON DASHBOARD. TRUCK HAS CUT OFF WHILE WAITING TO TURN WHILE IN MIDDLE OF A FOUR-LANE HIGHWAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON. HESITATION AND ACCELERATION ISSUES. WHEN PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR TRUCK DOESN'T GO AS IF STUCK IN GEAR THEN FINALLY LURCHES FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. VERY JERKY DURING GEAR CHANGES SIMILAR TO DRIVING A STICK SHIFT. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD TO BUY NEW BATTERY BUT THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. DIAGNOSTICS AT DEALERSHIP GAVE NO INDICATION AS TO HOW THESE SAFETY ISSUES CAN BE RESOLVED.
Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Apr 5, 2019
FREQUENTLY THE MESSAGE "SERVICE SHIFTER" LIGHTS UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND ALL THE GEAR LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LIGHT UP. THIS HAPPENS USUALLY AFTER I START THE CAR. SOMETIMES I TURN IT BACK OFF AND RESTART THE CAR AND IT GOES AWAY, BUT A FEW TIMES IT HAS STAYED ON MY ENTIRE DRIVE.
Power train, Apr 1, 2019
WHILE DRIVING ON BACK ROADS AND HIGHWAY I WOULD NOTICE THAT AROUND 30-40 MPH THE CAR WOULD SHIFT EXTREMELY ROUGH AND WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD AND SEEM LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO KEEP GOING FORWARD MAKING ME HIT THE BREAKS HARDER. WILL BE CONTACTING DEALERSHIP.

IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS, WHENEVER I TRY TO TURN THE WHEELS RIGHT OR LEFT IT MAKES A LOUD CREAKING NOISE. I HAD IT LOOKED AT AND HAD THE TOP TOP STRUT BUSHING LUBRICATED THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE ONLY TO HAVE IT CONTINUE MAKING THE SAME NOISE.
Power train, Engine, Mar 29, 2019
DRIVING ALONG WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION, THE ENGINE STALLS OUT AND CONTINUES TO ROLL, BUT DOES NOT OPERATE. CAR MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, REST AND THEN TRY TO RESTART - VERY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. A MESSAGE COMES ON STATING "VEHICLE MUST BE IN GEAR TO SHIFT" OR SOMETHING CLOSE TO THAT - BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO SHIFTING ON MY PART AT ALL. THIS STALLING HAS PUT ME IN VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS BECAUSE CARS COMING FROM BEHIND AND AROUND ME HAVE NO WARNING OF THE STALLED OUT ENGINE EITHER. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 OR 4 MINUTES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE PISTONS. ANOTHER JEEP SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FEAR THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET HIT (MY DAUGHTER AND I) AND MEANWHILE, WE DO NOT HAVE OTHER TRANSPORTATION AND I'M GOING TO BE PAYING ON THIS FOR 4 MORE YEARS. THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION ON OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. FOR NOW, THE DEALERSHIP IS DOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH IS RELATED TO THE ENGINE PROBLEMS KNOWN ON OTHER VEHICLES. WITH THIS MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ENGINE.
Electrical system, Engine, Mar 22, 2019
SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, A JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE IS HAS SHOWN THESE ERRORS CONSISTENTLY. EXAMPLES: THE VEHICLE DECELERATES WHEN PUSHED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. IT SHIFTS HARD BETWEEN GEARS WHEN DRIVING, CAUSING A JERKING MOTION WITHIN THE CAR - EVEN WHEN GENTLY ACCELERATING. ON ONE OCCASION IT HAS SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY STOP FUNCTIONING. MORE RECENTLY, I WAS REAR-ENDED AT A GAS STATION AND WAS UNAWARE, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS MY CAR JERKING FORWARD UPON ACCELERATION. WHEN REVERSING, THE VEHICLE JERKS BACKWARDS - AFTER A DELAY. THE VEHICLE ALSO DELAYS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON.
Power train, Mar 16, 2019
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN 2017. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS WE NOTICED THAT WHEN TAKING OFF, THE CAR OFTEN STALLED OR LURCHED FORWARD. THIS OFTEN SEEMED TO HAPPEN IN THE MORNING OR AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, SO WE ASSUMED IT MIGHT JUST BE THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO 'WARM UP'. NOW WE ARE HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE SHIFTER ERROR MESSAGE COMING ON WITH ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LIGHTING UP. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS WEEK WHEN THIS HAPPENED, WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART. IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. WE COULD NOT EVEN TURN ON OUR HAZARD LIGHTS. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC. AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING, HE REPLACED THE BATTERY, WHICH HE SAID HAD COMPLETELY DIED AND AS NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE CAR IN ANY WAY. HE SAID THE WAY IN WHICH IT HAPPENED WAS VERY UNUSUAL AND TO WATCH TO SEE IF ANY OTHER ERROR MESSAGES OCCURRED. TWO DAYS AFTER PICKING UP OUR CAR, THE SAME SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE HAS COME UP WHILE WE WERE DRIVING WITH ALL LIGHTS LIGHTING UP ON THE SHIFTER. WE DID NOT STOP THIS TIME AND WERE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME, AND WE WILL CALL OUR MECHANIC ON MONDAY. WHILE RESEARCHING WHAT THIS LIGHT COULD MEAN, I HAVE COME ACROSS COUNTLESS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE, SO I WANT TO ADD OUR VOICE IN ASKING FOR A RECALL THAT WOULD ALLOW THIS TO BE CORRECTED SO THAT WE CAN DRIVE OUR JEEP WITH CONFIDENCE RATHER THAN FEAR. *DT

THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD JUST WENT AROUND A CORNER AND WAS HEADING UP A SMALL HILL WHEN I HEARD A BEEP AND LOOKED AT THE MESSAGE WHICH SAID "TO SHIFT ... MUST BE IN PARK". I HAD NO WARNING PRIOR TO THIS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS STALLED IN THE ROAD AND WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I TRIED TO RESTART MY VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AFTER ENSURING IT WAS IN PARK, WITH NO LUCK. I CALLED FOR A TOW, AND WHILE WAITING, I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT FINALLY STARTED, SO I CANCELLED THE TOW. WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, I STILL HAD LIGHTS AND RADIO AND WHEN TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE THE ELECTRONIC PORTION WORKED (NORMAL DASH LIGHTS WHEN STARTING), BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT TURN OVER. I WAS FORTUNATE I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH NOT MUCH TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR INTERSTATE. I HAVE BEEN A PREVIOUS JEEP OWNER AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY OTHER JEEP I OWNED. I WILL BE TAKING MY JEEP IN TO SEE IF THE DEALERSHIP CAN FIND AN ISSUE. I CURRENTLY HAVE 80,500 MILES ON IT. I HAVE A LONG COMMUTE TO WORK AND I HAVE NOW LOST CONFIDENCE IN THIS VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT START. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE, SERVICE TRANSMISSION, AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE NOT AVAILABLE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND DID NOT MOVE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED, THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR CLEARED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GOLLING CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (248-334-3600, LOCATED AT 2405 S TELEGRAPH RD, BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI 48302), BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

AFTER DRIVING A VERY SHORT DISTANCE, I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND THE ENGINE SEEMED TO TURN OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE. THE DISPLAY INDICATED TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK, AND THEN ENGAGE A GEAR. I SHIFTED INTO PARK, AND THEN INTO DRIVE BUT THE CARD DID NOT START OR MOVE. I TRIED THAT SEQUENCE SEVERAL TIMES AFTER TURNING ON THE HAZARD FLASHERS TO NO AVAIL. FINALLY I TURNED OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY, WAITED A MINUTED, THEN INSERTED THE KEY AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR MOVED. VERY SCARY. THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY WIFE A DAY LATER, AT EXACTLY THE SAME LOCATION, A STOP SIGN 1/4 MILE FROM OUR HOME. SHE FREAKED OUT, AND THEN CALLED ME. I GAVE HER THE PROCEDURE I USED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME. IN BOTH CASES THIS OCCURRED ON A 4 LANE DIVIDED ROADWAY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THE POWER TRAIN WHICH THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER MUST ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *DT*JB

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 12/31/2017 AS USED FROM WALLY ARMOUR IN SALEM OHIO, IT ONLY HAD 11000 MILES ON IT AND SMELLED BRAND NEW STILL. THE FIRST INCIDENT I HAD NOTICED WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE RPMS/ENGINE WOULD REV REALLY HIGH AND LOUD BUT THE CAR WAS ONLY GOING 55 AND IT SEEMED TO BE IN THE WRONG GEAR BUT I WAS IN THE AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITION WHICH SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS, I COULD UNDERSTAND IF I WAS IN STANDARD STICK SHIFT AND IF I WOULD DOWN SHIFT IT WOULD CAUSE IT TO DO THAT. THEN I STARTED NOTICING A HESITATION IN THE TAKE OFF OF THE VEHICLE SO WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND TURNING LEFT IT WAITING FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT WILL HESITATE AND GOD FOR BID THERE IS A CAR COMING AND IT IS HESITATING AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL LURCH FORWARD AND I GET THROWN FORWARD THEN BACKWARD IN MY SEAT AS IF I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND MY VEHICLE AND IT WILL JAR MY NECK CAUSING PAIN, I HAD NECK SURGERY IN 2016 WITH A CAGE PUT IN AND A FUSION OF 2 CADAVER BONES, I AM IN NO CONDITION FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE LURCHING FORWARD AS IF IT IS GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME INCIDENT EITHER IT IS ON GOING DAILY. I AM HOPING FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM I HAVE TAKEN IT IN ONCE AND PLAN ON TAKING IT IN AGAIN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT POSSIBLY DOING SOMETHING TO IT TO FIX IT.
