Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, automatic transmissionApr 27, 2023
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power or loss of park function.
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can cause an unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 45A. This recall expands previous recall number 20V-343.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

EquipmentDec 21, 2017
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. A LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH THAT READ "SERVICE TRANSMISSION". THE ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING AND MY CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. STOPPING AT A LIGHT, MY CAR NEARLY STALLED WHEN I NEEDED TO CROSS OVER AN INTERSECTION. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO BE SERVICED THE FOLLOWING DAY. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE STATION THAT THE ISSUE WASN'T WITH THE TRANSMISSION- BUT THAT THE CAR NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT WHEN MY CAR NEARLY STALLED DRIVING ACROSS THE INTERSECTION. I ADDRESSED MY CONCERN WITH FCA, BUT WAS TOLD THAT SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE ROUTINELY NEEDED AND SHOULD BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME AS MY OIL CHANGE. MY CAR ONLY HAS 5300 MILES AND IS ONLY DRIVEN SHORT DISTANCES (MOSTLY ON THE WEEKEND). THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING WITH A CAR SO NEW AND SUCH LITTLE MILEAGE. ALSO, MY CAR HAS BEEN KEPT UPDATED WITH THE NECESSARY OIL CHANGES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM NOT NOTIFIED AHEAD OF TIME IF MY CAR NEEDS THESE SOFTWARE UPDATES? AM I JUST EXPECTED TO CROSS MY FINGERS AND HOPE THIS ISSUE DOESN'T OCCUR AGAIN? THIS ISSUE GREATLY AFFECTED MY SAFETY. AND MY CAR WASN'T DRIVABLE. IT'S BOTH A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND AN INCREDIBLE INCONVENIENCE.

ORDERED A WINDSHIELD BACK ON 12/20. IT STILL ISN'T IN!! I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY FACTOR AND I HAVE 2 CASE NUMBERS WITH JEEP AND THEY STILL DON'T HAVE A WINDSHIELD. EVERY TIME THEY SAY IT'S DUE TO BE IN, THE DATE CHANGES. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR AND IT IS CRACKED ALL THE WAY ACROSS.
Power train, Feb 13, 2017
THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE SHOP AT LEAST 4 TIMES TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED. THEY KEEP TELLING ME ITS A SOFTWARE UPDATES, BUT THE ROUGH SHIFT OR NON-SHIFTING STARTS AGAIN IN ABOUT 3-4 DAY AFTER I GET MY VEHICLE BACK. IT SHIFTS FINE UNTIL 4 GEAR AND THEN IT DOES NOT SHIFT ANYMORE AND GRINDS THE GEARS.

ACCELLERATING FROM A STOP TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION TO PUT IT IN PARK, REMOVE AND RE-INSERT KEY, AND RESTART. ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED IN THE PROCESS. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AFTER (SATURDAY), THEY HAVE HAD IT ALL WEEK - SAID THEY HAVE DRIVEN IT EVERY DAY AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TODAY IS THURSDAY AND THEY ARE ASKING ME TO PICK IT UP. WIRING IS SECURE, BATTERY IS FINE, THERE IS NO TRACE IN THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER THAT THERE WAS EVER AN ISSUE.

SETTING CRUISE DOES NOT HOLD WITH EVEN VERY MINOR INCLINE/DECLINE NO MATTER WHAT SPEED SET IS. THE INCREASE OF SPEED DURING SET CRUISE IS ALARMING AT OVER 10+ MILES AT MEDIUM DECLINE, AND AT SOME POINT CAR TRIES TO SLOW DOWN, BUT IT IS NOT A SMOOTH TRANSITION, AS IT FEELS JERKY. I HAVE TAKEN TO LICAL JEEP DEALER, BUT THEY SAID MAYBE AFTR "COMPUTER UPDATES", IT WOULD REMEDY IT. NOT! I CAN BE ON A BOULEVARD, STREET, HIGHWAY, ETC... I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR 1-13-2017 WHILE LATITUDE STILL HAS WARRANTY...NO DEALER IS ABLE TO GET VEHICLES IN QUICKLY, SO THAT ALONE SAYS A LOT ABOUT ISSUES WITH THIS MANUFACTURER.... I WOULD ADD THAT I TESTED CRUISE WITH THAT AUTOMATIC ENGINE SHUTOFF BOTH ON AND OFF TO NARROW IT DOWN, BUT THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE... THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH DEFROSTING WINDSHIELD, TOO, WHERE THE ONLY REMEDY IS ROLLING DOWN WINDOWS, WHICH IS TERRIBLE IN FOG, RAIN, COLD WEATHER... THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE IS THE AREA WHERE THE SIDEVIEW MIRRORS ARE: IT IS SO WIDE, IT BLOCKS AN ONCOMING CAR (ESPECIALLY ON PASSENGER SIDE), WHEN TRYING TO TURN LEFT. IT MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE ROAD, TOO, AS MANY STREETS HAVE MEDIANS AND MANY DO NOT. SOME HAVE CONCRETE BIKE CURBS, AND ONE MUST PULL CAR FURTHER OUT THAN NORMAL, JUST TO AVOID RUNNING INTO SOMETHING. THIS IS TRUE FOR BOTH RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS. IF AREA IS DARK, IT IS A GUESSING GAME. THIS ALSO MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE DEER IN NEIGHBORHOODS OR FREEWAYS HERE IN SAN ANTONIO, MUCH LESS OBJECTS THAT ARE THREE FEET TALL AND BELOW.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED NORMALLY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS TOO LOW AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BECAUSE THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

BOUGHT CAR IN FEB 2016 AND WAS OK TO TOW 4 WHEELS DOWN WITH OUT ANY ADDITIONS. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT I COULD NO LONGER TOW 4 WHEELS DOWN WITH OUT ADDING A MOPAR FLAT TOW WIRING KIT. DUE TO BATTERY DRAINAGE THE FRONT END GOES INTO A SERIOUS WOBBLE WHICH COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT OR EVEN DEATH. JEEP REFUSES TO PAY FOR THIS ADDITION. I TOWED THIS CAR FROM AZ TO FL AND JUST LAST MONTH I DID HAVE THE WOBBLE AND MUST SAY GLAD I WAS NOT GOING HIGHWAY SPEED AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS!!!! THIS HAPPENED WHILE GOING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION SITE AND THE SPEED WAS ABOUT 35 TI 40 MPH, IT WAS SO BAD THAT I HAD TO STOP AND SPEND TIME UNHOOKING AND THEN HOOKING BACK UP AGAIN. LUCKILY THERE WAS PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD.
Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 16, 2016
PROBLEM BEGAN WITH THE CAR BUCKING SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER CHANGING GEARS. THEN, WHEN THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE (BUT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE), CAR WOULD START TO BUCK AGAIN, TRANSMISSION SLOWED, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, KEPT BUCKING AND LIGHTS IN CAR DIMMER. HAD TO KEEP RESTARTING THE CAR TO GET IT TO KEEP GOING. BUT, ONCE I USED THE BRAKE AGAIN, THE BUCKING AND LOSS OF ACCELERATION WOULD START ALL OVER AGAIN. DEALER CONTINUES TO STATE THAT THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR IS NOT REGISTERING ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER 3 TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 WEEKS. THIS ALL HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ON ANY KIND OF STREET OR HIGHWAY, WHENEVER THE GEAR BEGINS TO CAUSE BUCKING AFTER CHANGING.
Other or unspecified, Engine, Dec 14, 2016, fire
MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE CAUGHT FIRE, BEHIND THE ENGINE, WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH THE HELP OF TWO-THREE BYSTANDERS AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN. WHILE THERE IS A RECALL FOR A AUTO REAR-LIFT GATE, MY JEEP CHEROKEE DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE AND THE FIRE STARTED AND WAS LOCATED BELOW THE VEHICLE AND RIGHT BEHIND THE ENGINE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-25 MPH. AFTER EASING OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL A THUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT A HUMMING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS PRESENT WHILE DRIVING OVER 50 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100. UPDATED 01/25/17*LJ *CN

UCONNECT SYSTEM KEY FOB WITH REMOTE START CAPABILITY IS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE ACCIDENTALLY IF THE FOB START BUTTON IS DEPRESSED IN A POCKET. REMOTE START FEATURE OF FOB CANNOT BE DISABLED.

THE VEHICLE WILL OFTEN SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL UNCOMMANDED. THE MANUAL GEAR SHIFT STAYS IN INDICATED DRIVE MODE BUT THE TRANSMISSION OPERATES AS IF IN NEUTRAL. NO ENGAGED POWER OR INDICATION THAT IT IS IN NEUTRAL BUT PLENTY OF RPM JUST NOT ENGAGED. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 55 MPH AND THE CAR JUST SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. NO POWER AVAILABLE SO HAD TO COAST OF THE FREEWAY. ONCE I SHIFTED TO PARK AND BACK TO DRIVE IT OPERATED NORMALLY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS TIMES, THE PROJECTION HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO PROJECT FAR ENOUGH TO SEE AHEAD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT IN THE DESIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING CAPABILITY IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IT GOES OFF WHILE IN OPERATION IF THE VEHICLE TURNS A CORNER AND OFTEN WHEN CHANGING LANES. CAR ALARM GOES OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AND WITHOUT CAUSE. HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP REPEATEDLY ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY ARE WORKING ON A SOFTWARE UPDATE. NO ESTIMATE OF TIME CAN BE GIVEN BUT ADVISED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE RENEGADE.

WHILE DRIVING I LOST ACCELERATION CAPABILITY. KEPT HAPPENING ON MY WAY HOME BUT WHEN I HAD TO GO ACROSS A BRIDGE, I WAS SLIPPING BACKWARDS WITH NO ACCELERATION AND HAD TO "FLOOR IT" TO GET CLOSE TO 30-40 MPH. VERY SCARY!! CONTINUE TO HAPPEN ON MY WAY HOME AND EVERY LIGHT I STOPPED AT OR EVEN IF I SLOWED DOWN I HAD NO ACCELERATION UNTIL I SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE. COULD NOT EVEN GET IT OVER A SMALL 1-2 FOOT DRIVEWAY INCLINE!! WILL TAKE DOWN TO DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS USED VEHICLE I PURCHASED LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AGO (10/29) WITH LESS THAN 6,500 MI DRIVEN ON IT!!
