  8. Air bags, May 8, 2025

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the air bag was visible on the steering wheel. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the air bag warning light was reset. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

  9. Electrical system, Air bags, Nov 19, 2024

2019 Jeep Cherokee with only 35,000 miles. There was a recall previously for lateral acceleration sensors that covered over 40,000 2019 Cherokees. This vehicle is affected with the same problem, but I’m being told that because the VIN doesn’t fall in a particular range it is not covered. The repair could end up being extremely expensive due to the labor required to repair the defective sensor. The car displays multiple warnings that Electronic Stability Control and 4WD are unavailable. Codes pulled revealed one fault code, C0061 which is for the lateral acceleration sensor which also is tied into the airbag system. Recall V63 (NHTSA 19V-449) issued in August 2019 is related to this exact issue. There are numerous reports of the same problem occurring with other 2019 Jeep Cherokees on Jeep owner forums. Jeep should have expanded the recall to cover this known defect.

  10. Air bags, Oct 1, 2024

Took car to Dealership due to air bag warning light illuminating on car but no collision. Dealer stated the car onboard module which controls the air bag deployment system was defective and possible would not have worked in an accident.

  11. Air bags, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 24, 2024, crash

The contact owned a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after accelerating at 10 MPH from a stop sign, another oncoming vehicle ran the stop sign causing a T-bone collision. The contact's vehicle had front cosmetic damages. The air bags did not deploy. The Forward Collison Warning failed to activate and the display failed to indicate there was a vehicle too close. A police report was filed. There were no injuries reported. A driver and her child involved in the other vehicle sustained unknown injuries and received medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

  12. Air bags, Forward collision avoidance, Mar 28, 2024, crash

Was involved in a t-boned accident where the front end of my jeep stuck a vehicle in the side. The collision sensor did not activate nor did the air bags deploy. The other vehicle involved had airbags that deployed. The jeep is at my residence for inspection. With airbags not performing properly (faulty) this did not keep the upper body from jilting forward which causes head and shoulder issues. Insurance has not investigated neither did police. There was no warning lights or messages indicating that there was a problem prior to the accident.

  13. Power train, Air bags, Other or unspecified, Oct 4, 2023

Questions answered in order: Major component glitch, messages for most components appeared on screen, Air bag, Transmission, zero speed, annunciator alarming, will try to duplicate and take pictures. Car stalled in road as driving. In process No indication prior to failure, all at once.

  14. Air bags, Sep 26, 2023

I know there is a recall for the air bags and my air bag light came on and said service airbag’s system. I read y’all’s article that says keep a watch on my dash board and this is a safety concern and very dangerous if i wreck or someone wrecks into me and my airbags don’t go off.

  15. Air bags, Jun 26, 2023, crash

Hard impact to front of car during an accident, car was totaled by insurance, air bag did not deploy on drivers side. No issues with the car or warning lights on before the accident. No indication the air bag was not working properly.

  17. Air bags, Aug 24, 2022, crash

I was driving under the speed limit at night after work and a bull Elk piped out running at fun speed. I barely had a chance to put my foot on the break. I had to a head on collision. My 2019 Jeep trailhawk front airbag deployed. My driver side knee air bag blew my ACL. I no longer have one in my right knee. I have to get a new ACL from a donor “Cadaver” from my understanding the brand of knee airbag are recall. Takata brand. They explode when deployed. It caused multiple problems in my leg. I can’t walk

  18. Electrical system, Air bags, Jul 16, 2022

The knee air bag on the drivers side is partially hanging out of its compartment , despite never being in a wreck. The engine stalls out during take off ! The anti theft system keeps locking me out

The failure mileage was 81,555.

  20. Air bags, Service brakes, Apr 29, 2022, crash

Vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with approx. 23k miles as of 4/28. A NH state inspection failed on 4/28/22 at 3 PM due to front rotors being "very delaminated and pitted" and front brake pads wearing unevenly as a result of the rotor delamination. In the months prior to inspection, stop time/distance was noticeably increased, and light pulsing could be felt when coming to a stop. An appointment to replace the rotors and brakes was made for 4/29/22 at 10 AM. Approximately 1 hour after the inspection, the vehicles in front of me came to an abrupt stop due to an intersection ahead. I was not able to stop in time and hit the vehicle in front of me, which was at a stop. That vehicle then lurched forward and hit the vehicle in front of it. After impact, the front upper and lower airbags deployed very slowly, but did not fully inflate. The radiator cracked as a result of the collision, as coolant began leaking from the vehicle and the vehicle began to smoke prior to me turning it off. There was extensive damage to the lower front bumper and hood, as well as mild damage to the quarter panels. Further damage is unknown at this time, as the vehicle was towed and is being assessed for repairs. No other persons involved in the crash were injured. I have sustained very mild bruising of my left knee from the steering column, soreness in the back of my neck and upper back, soreness in my right hip, and a very mild chemical burn in my throat (presumably from the airbag powder).

  21. Air bags, Seat belts, Apr 23, 2022

Went through a creek water came over my hood and then my stop/start sensor and seat belt dinger won't shut off

  22. Air bags, Jan 29, 2022, crash

On Monday January 24, 2022 I was hit by a pickup truck and my steering wheel airbag did not deploy or inflate hardly at all. From inside and around that airbag it was what looked like smoke and it burned my coat and parts of my body. I also hit my nose and face on the steering wheel.

  23. Air bags, Jan 14, 2022, crash

I was recently involved in a car accident in the beginning of December. A truck pulled out in front of me when I was going 50 mph and I hit him in the side and it caused a significant amount of damage to the my vehicle. The other persons insurance company totaled my vehicle because of the amount of damage. However, we were surprised that the airbags didn’t deploy. Nothing has been confirmed to have been wrong with them but hasn’t been looked into. The vehicle was just taken to a colission center for estimates. It could have helped with the impact. My knees hit the dash pretty hard, enough to bruise pretty bad and cause pain for a few days

  24. Electrical system, Air bags, Nov 29, 2021

CARVANA tried to drop off this Jeep Cherokee with the air bags exposed on both the drivers side and passenger side. There were also exposed wires on the passenger side. I rejected the vehicle and they put it right back up for sale seconds later. They also are refusing to come pick up the original vehicle that I had swapped for the Cherokee. This is what I sent them: I swapped a Jeep Compass for a Jeep Cherokee (VIN [XXX]). The delivery person [XXX] shows up 11/27/2021 and before he even gets the Cherokee off the truck, he offers me a $100 visa gift card saying the inside is dirty. I open the drivers side door and the air bag is exposed, dirty and wet. [XXX] says I can keep it, just get it fixed at a dealership. I said “NAH”. I go to the passenger side and it’s the same situation, the panel is hanging down and there are exposed wires. I said “nah I’m not keeping this car” and I begin taking pictures of the damages. The delivery dude [XXX] then asks me not to take pictures. I did anyway. Then [XXX] says “well I’m not gone say you rejected it. Imma just leave it as is” to which I said “no it’s rejected. I’m not taking this car I reject it.” I never got in the car, I have ring cameras that recorded it all. He loads it back up and leaves. Fifteen minutes later the car is back for sale on Carvana. I called Carvana to tell them they needed to come pick up their compass because I no longer want to do business with a company that would deliver a vehicle with defective airbags. They give me the complete run around for TWO days saying they can’t just come get the car, contracts have to be filled. The same contract I signed with the compass was the same contract I signed on the Cherokee that was instantly back for sale. How?? I never signed any financing contracts on either car because the mileage was under reported on the contract and I wasn’t about to sign anything with inaccuracies. They told me it would take 10-20 business days to come get their car. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

  25. Steering, Electrical system, Air bags, Aug 2, 2021, crash

This particular year and model of jeep has 2 recalls not registered to my VIN number related to my accident. Airbags- impact and acceleration sensors. Steering- steering rack gear. Tonight while driving my jeep to my local walmart, my steering completely quit and locked up on me causing me to go off the road, hit a speed limit sign, almost roll my vehicle, and cause possible irreparable damage that may total my vehicle all together. The impact was hard enough to cave in my whole front passenger side fender, rip my mirror completely off, dent both passenger doors deeply, bend my door frames, and almost completely tore off my rear fender. During this, my air bags did not deploy, and I know the accident was bad enough that they should have. This could have been life threatening, and could have ended entirely worse than what it did. My power steering pump seems to be working fine, but my jeep itself is still registering it as a power steering issue, which makes me believe that there are significant electrical issues with the jeep itself.
