After approximately 70,000 miles in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee, my Powertransfer Unit light came on and has refused to go off starting in between May - June 2025. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and passenger's safety are at risk if my Powertransfer Unit malfunctions when driving. Problem has not been confirmed by a independent service center. Vehicle or component has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No other warning messages or symptoms prior to the failure
Power train, Aug 22, 2025
Power Transfer Unit - my power transfer unit has failed. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those under the recall provisions. For some reason, my VIN # is not included.

Am concerned about theses vehicles even being on the roadways with no resolution to the safety recall being resolved. Reported in Jan 2025, no resolution yet. for 8 months? "Parts are not available". It appears by documentation that if you are in the states you can get a dealer to check via software to detect and monitor for excessive wear within a PTU. If PTU failure is confirmed by software, FCA US will replace the PTU for all impacted customers experiencing messaging related to the defect to replace the PTU. Warranty extension terms and unlimited years/unlimited mileage. Why can we not check the vehicle out at a Canadian Dealer to confirm what we are potentially driving down our busy highways?
Power train, Aug 21, 2025
The power transfer unit (PTU) failed, which is part of Recall 01C. A warning light came on, which prompted me to bring the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership inspected the vehicle, confirmed the PTU had failed, and stated it is unsafe to drive. They also confirmed there is no remedy or replacement part available at this time. Because of this, the vehicle cannot be safely operated and I have been left without transportation.

I own a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, VIN [XXX] ], with approximately 77,000 miles. The vehicle’s 4WD transmission/Power Transfer Unit (PTU) has failed and requires replacement. This defect causes loss of 4WD function, reduced drivability, and presents a huge potential safety hazard. The symptoms are identical to those described in NHTSA Recall 25V-011 for 2017–2019 Jeep Cherokees with PTU snap-ring failures, which can result in loss of motive power and rollaway risk. Although my VIN is not currently included, the year, make, model, and defect match the recall population exactly. This failure has significantly devalued my vehicle and created an unsafe condition. I am requesting investigation into why my VIN is excluded and for the recall to be expanded to cover affected vehicles like mine. On Friday, 8/1/2025, while driving my car, I lost power and the SVC4WD message came on. I took it to the dealer on Monday, 8/4/2025. The technician told me that I need a new PTU and Transfer Box unit in order to fix the problem. He told me there are no recalls for this specific vehicle. I looked on your web site and using my VIN, I was able to pull up information. See included documentation. I also called Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) and they told me there are no recalls for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I was told that only "certain" cars are affected. My car has 39,000 miles driven. It is my understanding that this particular problem appears at 39K miles. It seems to me that my car should be included in the recall. The technician also informed me that it will take "months and months" to fix the problem and it will cost $3,000+. I am a single mom on a fixed income. I cannot afford the repair cost or to be without my vehicle for an indefinite amount of time. I request that my car be included in the recall. And that you provide a vehicle for me to drive while the dealer waits for the parts considering that they are in short supply and the dealer does not know when and if they will receive the parts necessary to fix the problem.

Since late last year we have experienced intermittent shift slippage when going from just starting out to automatically shifting to next gear. This has happened many times. We never knew about any recall until we took vehicle to dealer ( Manahawkin Jeep ) for another issue with the oil filter housing leaking. The vehicle jerks forward and is not a smooth shift. The problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else except the owner. No warnings or messages about issue.

There has been a safety recall issued since January 16, 2025. Today's date is August 11, 2025. To this date there is still no remedy available. I own two Jeeps with this same recall as part of my business. I am losing close to $3,000 in revenue per month between the two. I'm quickly approaching lost revenue of $21k. Is there a time requirement for manufacturers to address their safety recalls? Seven months is far too long. Thank you.

My car started making a grinding noise when making a sharp right hand turn. I took this to a garage and was told the PTU is faulty. I have since found out there was a recall for this on Jeeps manufactured until Feb of 2019. Mine was manufactured in March of 2019 and has the same issue as in the recall. The PTU has been ordered but is on back order. If possible, please look into expanding the dates of manufacture for this recall as I know of 2 other Jeep Cherokees one of which was manufactured the same time as mine that have this same issue.

The Power Transfer Unit and Transfer Case Assembly failed, it is currently available for inspection. The vehicle experienced unexpected loss of motive power at highway speed, additionally there was a noticeable front-end vibration and resulting dangerous change in drive quality. Finally, there was a loss of park function. The vehicle problem was confirmed at the dealer and is currently waiting a complete replacement of the Transfer Case and Power Transfer Unit. There was no warning prior to the problem, the Service 4WD warning lamp did not illuminate until approximately 1 week after the problem. Immediately after the initial front-end vibration and loss of power I took the vehicle to a mechanic, and they couldn't replicate the issue. It was determined the brake pads could have caused the vibration. Upon the second incident and when the service 4WD light came on I took the vehicle to the dealer where the service department determined it was the transfer case and PTU.

I’m reporting a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4. I recently took the vehicle in for inspection after noticing performance issues, and it was diagnosed with a failing PTU. After researching this problem, I found that Jeep has issued a recall for PTU issues on certain 2014–2019 Cherokees, but my vehicle is not included in that recall. This is frustrating because I’m experiencing the same exact issues described by those whose vehicles were recalled—loss of power to the wheels, difficulty accelerating, and major safety concerns when driving. My Jeep has around 90,000 miles and has been well cared for with no prior major mechanical problems. This is the first significant issue I’ve had, and it’s a serious one. It’s clear this problem is not isolated to just the VINs currently covered under the recall. Jeep’s response so far has been to deny responsibility based on recall limitations—even though the defect is clearly present in my vehicle. I believe more owners are going to experience this same failure if their vehicles haven’t already, and they’re being left to pay for something that should be covered. I’m asking the NHTSA to investigate whether the scope of this recall needs to be expanded. This is a known defect, and there is no reason owners like me should be excluded from repair coverage just because our VINs didn’t make the original list—especially when the symptoms and failures are identical.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Jul 30, 2025
While driving on the highway the vehicle suddenly loses power when trying to get up to speed limits. The following warning messages occur: 4WD System Unavailable Service Required, ACC/FCW Limited Functionality Service Required, Service Electronic Stability Control, Service Electronic Throttle Control. Could have caused rear collision or other accidents from trying to pull over. Creates a very dangerous situation on highways with no shoulders. Once the vehicle has slowed down it impossible to get back up to speeds, as it has to be pulled over and restarted. Upon inspection by Reed Jeep Dealership, the PTU needs to be replaced. Other similar year, make and models have already been recalled for this same issue.
