  2. Electrical system, Dec 20, 2022

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle was idling rough idle almost causing the vehicle to stall. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle seemed to operate and run normally. The contact stated that the check engine and the electronic throttle control warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that after shifting into drive(D) and accelerating to approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle hesitated, revved, and then lunged forward. Additionally, the contact noted that the vehicle had been consuming an unusual amount of coolant that required him to add about one gallon of coolant per month. The contact stated that there was no leaks or puddles of coolant around the vehicle when the vehicle was parked in the driveway. The contact had driven the vehicle to an independent mechanic who attempted to download data from the computer but was unable to find any failure data on the engine "DTC" data. The mechanic retrieved fault code number: P0627 (PCM Engine Control Module). The independent mechanic was unable to repair the vehicle. The contact stated that the independent mechanic researched online and related one of the failures to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V813000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,800.

  3. Electrical system, Nov 22, 2022

The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the blind spot indicator was not operating properly and would notify an object was ahead of the vehicle; however, there was no object in front of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the blind spot indicator to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

  4. Electrical system, Nov 2, 2022, fire

PASSENGER SIDE VANITY MIRROR CAUGHT FIRE. MY EYES STARTED BURNING AND SMOKE FILLED THE CAR SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR. I WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WAITING FOR THE RAIN TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE I STARTED DRIVING OTHER WISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN I REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING.

  5. Service brakes, Nov 1, 2022

The brake booster of my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was supposedly inspected and or replaced as part of a recall that I had performed on the vehicle on 12/22/2017 has intermittent failure. Prior to having the recall work performed on the brake booster I had no issues with my power brake systems. However, within a year of having the recall work done I had the BRAKE warning light come on while driving and noticed that my brake pedal was extremely firm when trying to start my vehicle. I made an appointment at a Jeep dealer to have the problem diagnosed and fixed immediately but the problem went away before my scheduled appointment. The problem recurred (BRAKE warning light and extremely firm brake pedal upon starting) about 2 weeks ago. I immediately drove to the nearest dealership and asked that they scan what error code was causing my BRAKE light (suspecting that it was a faulty brake booster but wanting a definitive diagnosis prior to pursuing the matter). Thankfully even though the light had gone off by the time I got it to the dealer they said the error code was still stored and came back as "C0021-02" or "Brake Booster - General Signal Failure" that likely indicates a failing brake booster BUT the dealer also said I was out of warranty and so no work would be covered even though the brake booster recall work led to this dangerous intermittent failure. I have had multiple occasions recently where my vehicle has taken longer to stop than expected and I never know when its going to happen and so I have to leave very long stopping distances now or else risk rear-ending a stopped vehicle if my brakes randomly stop working effectively (also to keep my kids safe from being in an accident when I need to get them to school). I can provide the brake booster for inspection if/when this defective part is replaced properly at the manufacturer or the dealership's expense. The time and specifics below refer to the first time the first time the BRAKE light activated.

  7. Electrical system, Oct 19, 2022

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the check electrical system warning light illuminated; and engine started to make a high-pitched noise. The contact drove his vehicle to his residence and noticed a burning odor after exiting the vehicle. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced and the battery needed to be recharged due to the faulty alternator. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

  8. Engine, Oct 11, 2022

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had an emissions test scheduled and failed due to the check engine warning light. The contact stated that the vehicle engine was idling roughly. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the number two cylinder had been misfiring and needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic referred the contact to a dealer where she had been advised that there had been a manufacturer recall associated with the VIN, however, the recall warranty had expired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The contact stated that they were never notified of the extended warranty for the vehicle.

  10. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 5, 2022

Car stalls out while driving causing serious safety risk as it happened on the highway. Happened twice on the highway, once on a local street and another time in a tunnel

  11. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 4, 2022

I have an outstanding recall on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee which the dealerships in my area refuse to fix. The NHTSA Recall Number 19V-813.

  12. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Aug 4, 2022

The entire leather dash has become the delaminated they had issued a recall on us for a six-month period in early 2020 they kept pushing back saying they didn’t have the parts and six months lapsed I am just worried if I were to get into an accident that the airbags on the passenger side would not operate properly due to the fact that all the leather has sagged and become unglued how can a manufacturer only make a safety recall good for six months the mechanic told me it’s because they only have a certain amount of budget on labor and parts to do safety recalls and that the shops don’t want their time taken up because it is such a time extensive process there were thousands of vehicle’s affected and a lot of them were unable to be fixed because of part shortage and the six-month timeframe they gave everyone How do I get this fixed without paying $3000

  13. Air bags, Seat belts, Aug 3, 2022

There is a failure in the driver seat belt system resulting in the car not knowing if the driver is buckled. This affects the function of the airbag system in the vehicle. The sensor in the seat belt restraint buckle assembly (P/N 1GQ92DX9AC) that is responsible for reporting if the buckle is fastened has failed resulting in 2 error lights on the dashboard: seat belt and airbag. When evaluating the codes stored in the ECU, I found code B1B51, "Active 1st Row Driver Seat Belt Sensor Circuit High", was triggered. This is indicating a failure of the sensor or harness in the buckle assemble attached to the drivers seat. I am unable to source a replacement part 1GQ92DX9AC since they seem to be backordered everywhere. I've contacted several dealers and parts distributers. This means my vehicle is currently stuck in an unsafe condition. I'm unsure about the affect that this failure has on the airbag system but since the airbag error light is illuminated on the dashboard, I'm worried that the system is disabled since the vehicle doesn't know if the driver is buckled. I've researched this issue on various forums and this isn't an uncommon issue. There are many posts about people trying to diagnose and repair this. This same part number is shared between the WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the corresponding Dodge Durango sharing the same model years. I have not brought the vehicle to a dealer to confirm my diagnosis. I'm a mechanical engineer and typically maintain and repair my own vehicles.

  14. Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 26, 2022

This vehicle has had issues starting from the beginning. It occasionally sputters for ~10 seconds when I push start and then stalls. At other times, it starts, then immediately shuts off. It often takes several attempts when either of these things happen for the car to start and keep running. Jeep eventually came out with a recall related to the fuel system that causes starting issues. I have been on a waiting list since October 2021 for the replacement parts so I can have the recall issue fixed, and Salerno Duane Jeep in Summit NJ is still telling me they have no idea when the part will be available. I am therefore selling the car because my kids drive it and I can’t have a car that won’t start for safety reasons. How can Jeep know this issue exists, keep me waiting for nearly a year and still not be able to tell me when it can get fixed?

  15. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Jun 29, 2022

Vehicle stalled without warning. No power whatsoever. Illuminated battery light came on. Noticed a burning odor coming from vehicle. Checked engine bay and noticed heavy smoke coming from alternator for a good 10 minutes. Vehicle would not take a jump nor could I put into gear. Battery is completely dead. PCM also seems to be fried. Will have to be towed to Dealership. Called Jeep costumer care and referenced the t36 recall but my vin does not fall under it even though vehicle fits EXACT description of recall. Also noticed that many others are have same problem with Jeep and them not expanding the recall to their vin. How terrible!! This could have easily been a fatal situation. Jeep needs to take some responsibility and action!

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, May 11, 2022

I have been waiting for over 2 years for Jeep to complete the recall for V62/NHTSA 19V-813. In May of 2020, the fuel pump relay failed and my Jeep would not start. The dealer (Fort Collins Jeep in Fort Collins CO) replaced the relay with the same previous version of the relay, which fixed the problem but did not satisfy the recall. They did not have parts available to fix the recall and I was put on a wait list. In the fall of 2020 I moved from Colorado to Tucson, AZ. In June 2021, I called Larry H Miller Chrysler/Jeep dealer in Tucson and was put on a wait list for the part. It's now been almost another year since then and they are still telling me that they don't have the parts available. For what is considered a safety issue, it seems wrong to have to wait for years to have it fixed. (Note: The date I entered, 5/19/2020, is the day that the Jeep failed to start. The recall was originally issued long before this.) (RECALL RELATED INCIDENTS) TS

  17. Fuel/propulsion system, May 2, 2022

I began having issues with my vehicle stalling in the middle of turns and when I came to a stop at a stop light in September of 2019. I took my vehicle to Holden Doge Jeep in Dover, De. I was told it had a recall to replace the TIPM and the fuel relay switch. I was told that mine had gone bad. I was placed on a wait list. I called over 15 times checking on the status, still having issues with my vehicle stalling. Last week it stalled at a light and would not start at all. I had to have it towed to the dealership. I was told that they finally had the part in and I would be able to get a loaner until my car was finished. When my vehicle got there, the service guy told me, the part was for someone else and I would have to wait again. They refused to give me a loaner and the manufacturer called me back and said a loaner wouldn’t be covered under this recall. They told me they ordered the part and it would take 5 days to get there. Here it is a week later and I am still without a vehicle and now I am getting the run around.

  20. Power train, Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 20, 2022

Since owning this vehicle (2013), it periodically stalls while driving. There is no warning and most times I am on a highway or getting off an exit. When this happens, I have no power steering ability. I have been lucky so far and I have not caused a serious accident when these episodes have occurred. My wife refused to ride or to drive the Jeep because of this problem. I see online that other Jeep owners have experienced the same problem. I have taken it to a Jeep dealer for service since 2013 and they are never able to diagnose the root cause of this problem. This problem seems to be happening more often - I fear for my life and those around me due to this sporadic problem. Please hold Jeep responsible for getting to the root of this issue with these vehicles.

  24. Steering, Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Feb 9, 2022

Vehicle has inexplicably, and randomly stalled, and lost power steering and power brakes while operating. This has happened on multiple occasions, during random times of the day/season, while in movement, and while stopped at a traffic light/stop sign. There is no rhyme or reason to how or when this happens, and frustratingly cannot not be reproduced by a mechanic or dealership. When it happens, all other systems that were operating continue to operate (eg. radio stays playing, climate control (AC or heat), and the instrument panel doesn't indicate that anything is abnormal. Safety is a huge concern, as its difficult to control and/or slow the vehicle down, and we have barely avoided collisions. It has been taken to a dealer on multiple occasions, but to no avail, as the condition could not be reproduced. Other than the dealership's service department, the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were NO warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. We took ownership from the vehicles first and only other owner (my father in law) upon his passing back in April 2018. The condition happened within months of taking ownership, and has happened at least 8-10 times since then. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. We would like to sell the vehicle (for this, AND other reasons), but do not feel comfortable selling an unsafe vehicle to anyone. We have incurred rental car costs while the car is in the shop for diagnosis. Upon a quick search online, there was quite a bit of evidence of this condition happening with others.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V813000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
