  18. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013

Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AGO I NOTICED OIL DRIPS WHERE THE CAR WAS PARKED. THE CAR HAD 49,740 MILES AND WAS ALMOST DUE FOR A 5,000 MILE OIL CHANGE. I TOOK IT EARLY AND ASKED THE MECHANIC TO CHECK ON THE LEAKS. HE FOUND THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR AND ESPECIALLY AROUND THE OIL PAN, ALTHOUGH NO APPARENT SOURCE OF THE LEAK COULD BE SEEN, THE OIL PAN GASKET/SEAL WAS REPLACED. THAT DID NOT HELP THE PROBLEM, THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS A LARGER PUDDLE OF OIL UNDER THE CAR. APPARENTLY, THE OIL FILTER HOUSING ON THIS CAR IS CRACKED, LEADING TO AN OIL LEAK ON TOP OF THE ENGINE AND POOLING THAT RUNS DOWN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE. OCCASIONALLY BURNING OIL CAN BE SMELLED, CREATING A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD ISSUE TO THE PASSENGERS. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM - NHTSA HAS RECORDED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM USERS (E.G., 11244788,11230350, 11193883, ETC.). FCA ISSUED AN EARLY SERVICE BULLETIN: SB-10058301-5939. SEARCHING ONLINE SHOWS LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN NECESSARY. THE REPLACEMENT PART NUMBER IS NOW ON ITS SIXTH REVISION (CURRENTLY ADAPTER-ENGINE OIL FILTER - MOPAR 68105583AF). IT SEEMS LIKE THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE LONG AGO.

  2. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 7, 2020

I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 26 WEST BOUND IN OREGON JUST OUTSIDE OF PORTLAND. MY CAR HAS ECODIESEL ENGINE IN IT. I USUALLY BUY GAS WHEN IT IS ABOUT A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL. I HAD ABOUT QUARTER TANK OF FUEL AND ABOUT 150 MILES RANGE LEFT. I WAS ON THE LEFT LANE AND TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH. ALL THE SUDDEN MY ENGINE STOPPED INSTANTLY ON THE LEFT LANE OF HIGHWAY 26. ALL THE CARS BEHIND ME HIT THE BRAKES NOT TO REAR END ME. MY CAR'S ENGINE STOPPED AND SLOWED DOWN SO QUICKLY. IT WAS SCARY. I TRIED TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. ONCE THE CAR WAS PARKED, IT SAID THAT BATTERY SAVING MODE. IT WOULD CRANK UP BUT NOT START THE ENGINE. I CALLED A MOBILE MECHANIC OVER. HE CHECKED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR AND SAID THE BATTERY IS STRONG AND NO BLOWN FUSES WHATSOEVER. HE THEN WENT UNDER THE CAR AND LISTEN THE FUEL PUMP AND SAID THAT IT SOUNDS VERY BAD.HE HAD BELIEFS THAT I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY FUEL SYSTEM, MAYBE A BROKEN FUEL PUMP. HE READ THE CODES OUT OF CAR COMPUTER AND THEY ALL WERE RELATED TO THE FUEL SYSTEMS. I STARTED DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES HAS A FAULTY DESIGN OF FUEL TANKS AND IF THE FUEL GOES BELOW THE QUARTER TANK LEVEL. THEN PUMP DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. UPON READING THIS, I CALLED A FRIEND WHO BROUGHT ME 5 GALLONS OF DIESEL AND WE PUT THE DIESEL INSIDE THE TANK AND THE CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY. I DROVE IT TO A NEAR BY GAS STATION AND FILED UP THE TANK FULL. I THINK THIS CAR HAS SOME SORT OF FAULTY DESIGN OF FUEL PUMP. IT WILL CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT IF IT DOES NOT GET CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY, THE CAR ACTUALLY SWERVED AROUND LITTLE BIT. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE ENDED FATALLY IF I WAS NOT QUICK ENOUGH. I AM WRITING THIS TO LET YOU GUSY KNOW ABOUT THIS FLAW ABOUT GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESELS 3.0 ENGINES.

FUEL LINE ISSUES (EVAP CODE IS BEING THROWN) CODE 'SERVICE SHIFTER' AND THE PRNDS FLASHES. AS I ACCELERATE THE CAR WON'T SHIFT PAST 1ST GEAR. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE SAME SHIFTER MEMO WAS ON THE SCREEN ACCOMPANIED BY 'SERVICE TRANSMISSON'. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GO MORE THAN 30 MPH WITH THE RPM AT ABOUT 4,000. I WAS ON A CITY STREET.

WE HAVE A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESEL 3.0 WHICH IS PART OF THE OVERALL CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WITH THE EPA AND CARB. WE WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS, RECEIVED THE SOFTWARE UPDATE & REMUNERATION FOR THE LOSS IN VALUE ON THE VEHICLE FROM FCA. FCA CLEARLY INDICATED IN ITS LITERATURE REGARDING THE SETTLEMENT THAT THE PERFORMANCE, MILEAGE, ADBLUE/BLUEDEF USAGE, ETC. WOULD NOT BE AFFECTED (SEE ATTACHED INFORMATION SHOWING THE EMISSIONS SOFTWARE UPDATE) HOWEVER, OUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN QUITE THE OPPOSITE AS I UNDERSTAND IS COMMON PLACE AFTER THE UPGRADE. FCA DID NOT ADEQUATELY REPRESENT THE MAJOR PERFORMANCE CHANGES THAT WERE TO BE EXPECTED BY THE EMISSIONS SOFTWARE UPDATE & DOWNPLAYED ANY ISSUES. THE MAIN ISSUES THAT WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED SINCE THE UPDATE INCLUDE: 1. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON 3-4 TIMES; 2. A MAJOR AND DANGEROUS HESITATION/LAG OF THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU START IT & ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE-ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. 3. A HIGHWAY MILEAGE DECREASE FROM AN AVERAGE OF 27-28MPG TO 19-21MPG; 4. SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE USE OF BLUE-DEF; WE HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE JEEP IN FOR SERVICE TO CHECK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SEVERAL TIMES & IT IS AGAIN IN THE SHOP YESTERDAY/TODAY FOR THE SAME ISSUES. AT THIS POINT, WE BELIEVE THAT FCA DID NOT CORRECTLY REPRESENT & REPAIR THE ECODIESEL 3.0 ENGINE IN OUR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE & AS A RESULT OF THE UPGRADE, OUR PERFORMANCE HAS GREATLY DIMINISHED AND WE HAVE SUFFERED WITH A NON-PERFORMING VEHICLE. WE ASK THAT NHTSA LODGE A FORMAL COMPLAINT ON OUR BEHALF AND BE MADE AWARE OF THE CONTINUED ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLES & THE MISREPRESENTATION OF THE PERFORMANCE ISSUES.

ROCKER ARM ISSUE ON THE 3.6L ENGINE SEEM TO BE A FABRICATION PROBLEM THAT THE COMPANY WILL ONLY FIX IF ONE OF THOSE BRAKE DURING THE WARRANTY. AFTER THAT YOU'RE ON TOUR OWN. IT IS UNFAIR THAT THE COMPANY KNOWING THAT THE ENGINE HAVE AN ISSUE WILL NOT RECALL IT AND HAVE IT FIX. THE BEARING FAILS AND THE ENGINE START MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND CREATING ALL SORT OF FAILING CODES ON THE PCM. *TR

THIS MODEL CAN COME WITH THE 3.6 LITER V/6 ENGINE. THE OIL COOLER HAS A NECK ATTACHED AND THIS IS WHERE THE OIL FILTER IS LOCATED. WHERE THE NECK IS CONNECTED TO THE OIL COOLER THERE IS A O-RING TO SEAL THIS CONNECTION AND THIS LEAKS ON ALMOST ALL MODELS. THERE HAS BEEN SOME INCIDENTS WHERE THE OIL HAS LEAKED ON A HOT MOTOR AND CAUSE A FIRE. THIS IS PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE OIL COOLER DESIGN AND SHOULD BE PROBABLY LISTED AS A RECALL. THANK YOU *TR

AFTER THE ECO DIESEL RECALL WAS DONE THERE IS A HUGE DELAY WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE AND PAUSE ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. FUEL MILEAGE HAS ALSO DECREASED AND THERE SEEMS TO BE EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE VEHICLE SINCE UPDATE WAS DONE.

AFTER HAVING THE V08 EMISSIONS RECALL DONE THE VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR LOSS IN POWER. THERE IS A DANGEROUS AMOUNT OF LAG WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC DUE TO THE LAG. THE FUEL MILEAGE HAS DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY ALSO. THE INFORMATION SENT OUT BY FCA SPECIALLY STATED THAT THIS RECALL WOULD NOT EFFECT DRIVEABILITY OR FUEL CONSUMPTION. IT HAS EFFECFED BOTH SIGNIFICANTLY. I HAVE
