Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.

THE OIL FILTER HOUSING ON THIS CAR IS CRACKED, LEADING TO A OIL LEAK AND POOLING PROBLEM WHICH IS A SIGNIFICANT FIRE HAZARD ISSUE TO THE PASSENGERS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY CAUSING A POOL OF OIL TO COLLECT IN CAR AND DRIP ON FLOOR. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM - NHTSA HAS RECORDED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM USERS (E.G. ID 11244788,11230350, 11193883 ETC.). OIL WAS CONSTANTLY RUNNING LOW, AND ON 2 OCCASIONS WAS FOUND TO BE EMPTY, EVEN AFTER OIL CHANGES. NO SIGNS OF LEAKS OR OIL BURNING, SO I ASSUMED THE DEALERSHIP SCREWED UP. OVER THE SUMMER, THE CONDENSATION FROM THE A/C WAS LEAVING STAINS ON MY DRIVEWAY, BUT STILL NO SIGNS OF OIL. A GOOGLE SEARCH OF A/C CONDENSATION WATER STAINS FOR MY JEEP REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE OIL COOLER MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. SURE ENOUGH, AN INSPECTION REVEALED OIL SITTING AROUND THE OIL COOLER. I TOOK IT TO PELLEGRINO JEEP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE OIL COOLER HAD CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST ME A LITTLE OVER $1000! UNLESS JEEP REDESIGNED THIS PART, I WILL EVENTUALLY EXPERIENCE ANOTHER OUT OF WARRANTY FAILURE. WHEN JEEP WAS CONTACTED, THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ANY HELP SINCE MY VEHICLE HAD 73K MILES ON IT AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THERE REALLY IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE HOW MANY MILES WERE ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE PART FAILED. ITS A KNOWN FACT THAT JEEP CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE PART FROM METAL TO PLASTIC. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR JEEPS ENGINEERING ERRORS. I'M FEARFUL THAT MY ENGINE MAY HAVE SUFFERED IRREPARABLE DAMAGE, CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE.

THE CAR BURNS EXCESSIVE OIL, THE ONLY WARNING OF THIS IS THE CAR SHUTS OFF POWER REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED AND LOCATION (I COULD BE DRIVING 65 MPH AND IT JUST SHUTS OFF POWER TO THE ENGINE ) AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I RECENTLY HAD THE ECODIESEL UPDATE INSTALLED ON OUR 2014 ECODIESEL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE STATEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER IS THE DRIVING CONDITIONS, FUEL MILEAGE, AND PERFORMANCE WILL NOT BE IMPACTED DUE TO THE ECM UPDATE. THESE ARE FALSE STATEMENTS AS THE UPDATED HAS GREATLY IMPACTED OUR VEHICLE! FUEL MILEAGE AS DECREASED GREATLY, THERE IS A HUGE LAG IN THE TURBO, AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GEARS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE UPDATE IS UNSAFE! MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR WITH OUR TWIN 15 MONTH OLD BOYS. THE LACK IN RESPONSE OF THE TURBO MAKES IT UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THERE IS NO GET UP AND GO, IT'S DIFFICULT TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, AND NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. THERE IS NO RESPONSIVNESS IN THE THROTTLE TO FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER THE CAR. WE LOVED THIS CAR BEFORE THE MADATED UPDATE (WE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, WE HAVE TO GET THE UPDATE TO REGISTER THE CAR). NO WE FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH OUR CHILDREN IN IT!

THE MOST RECENT RECALL TO CORRECT ENGINE PROGRAMMING TO MEET EMISSIONS HAS HAD A SEVERE IMPACT ON ENGINE AND VEHICLE PERFORMANCE. THERE IS A SEVERAL SECOND DELAY IN ACCELERATION FROM WHEN THE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PRESSED TO WHEN THE VEHICLE RESPONDS AND BEGINS TO MOVE, THAT DID NOT EXIST PRIOR TO RECALL REPAIRS. THIS DELAY IS MOST NOTICEABLE FROM A STANDING START. THE DELAY IN ACCELERATION IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WHEN THE DRIVER MAKES A DECISION TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND ACCIDENTS COULD OCCUR.

ENGINE SHUDDERED AND STOPPED WHILE IN PARK. TRIED TO RESTART, BUT WOULD NOT START (ELECTRICAL WAS FINE). HAD IT TOWED AND FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED. DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 75 MILES AND ACCELERATION CEASED ON BUSY HIGHWAY AT 70MPH. WHEN ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP, WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK (EVEN THOUGH SHIFTER INDICATED THAT IT WAS IN PARK). DASHBOARD INDICATED THAT MY SPEED WAS TOO HIGH TO SHIFT (I DO NOT RECALL THE FULL MESSAGE) AND IT BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS INTO TRAFFIC. I TURNED IT OFF AND IT STOPPED ROLLING. TOW TRUCK SAID HE HAD DIFFICULTY PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL. PRIOR TO FAILURE TO ACCELERATE, THERE WAS A HEAVY RUMBLING SOUND WHEN GAS PEDAL PUSHED; THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE SMALL PARTS WERE FALLING OFF OF THE ENGINE; THEN GRINDING SOUND BUT NO ACCELERATION. I SAW A BRIEF MESSAGE ABOUT 4WHEEL DRIVE, BUT WAS TRYING TO GET TO SAFETY, SO I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT SAID. I HAD A PASSENGER AND TODDLER IN THE CAR. FRIGHTENING!

AFTER THE EMISSIONS RECALL, MY JEEP HAS DANGEROUS LAG ON ACCELERATION. YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE IS A 3-5 SECOND DELAY BEFORE ANYTHING HAPPENS. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ETC. ADDITIONALLY THE FUEL ECONOMY HAS DECREASED SUBSTANTIALLY. ANY HELP WITH THIS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS, MIKE

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BREEDEN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 5900 US-71 BUS, FORT SMITH, AR 72908, (479) 646-4731) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT TWO OF THE SIX INJECTORS WERE INOPERABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE INJECTORS FAILED. THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE INJECTORS WERE DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

OUR DEALERSHIP COMPLETED EPA AND CARB EMISSIONS RECALL V08 FOR 3.0L DIESEL EMISSIONS ON 20 MAY 2019. MILEAGE OUT WAS 63,819. 200 MILES LATER, WE STARTED THE VEHICLE AS NORMAL. LESS THAN A MILE LATER, AS WE STARTED TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND OUR VEHICLE'S INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED TWO SEPARATE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) RELATED WARNINGS. THE FIRST SAYING DEF NEEDED SERVICE/CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP, WHILE THE SECOND WARNING SAID WE COULD NOT RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING ANOTHER 200 MILES. WE IMMEDIATELY FOUND A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE ACTING SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED US THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS LONG AS THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS PERFORMANCE ISSUES. HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY EMISSION RELATED, THAT WE WOULD BE OK IF WE DIDN'T DRIVE OVER 200 MILES. HE SAID GOING OVER 200 MILES MIGHT ABRUPTLY PUT THE VEHICLE INTO A "LIMP MODE"! WE WERE 150 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OTHERWISE OPERATING NORMALLY, SO WE TOOK THE SERVICE MANAGER'S ADVICE AND DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. OUR JEEP IS AN OFF-ROAD, TRAIL-RATED, GO ANYWHERE VEHICLE DESIGNED TO BE USED OUT IN THE WILDERNESS/NATIONAL PARKS AS WELL AS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO HAVE CONTROL OVER STARTING BECAUSE OF AN EMISSION VIOLATION/PROBLEM. ESPECIALLY WHEN IN A REMOTE LOCATION WHERE A RELIABLE VEHICLE IS PARAMOUNT TO SAFETY. MOREOVER, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS CRASH IF THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY GOES INTO A "LIMP MODE" EITHER OUT ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT A STOP LIGHT. TO DATE, OUR DEALERSHIP HAS NOT FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NOR THE DEF WARNINGS. THEY ARE KEEPING OUR VEHICLE AND WORKING WITH FIAT/CHRYSLER AUTOMOTIVE (FCA) REPRESENTATIVES AND ENGINEERS ON A SOLUTION.

WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH OUR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS WITH SOME DELAY IN ACCELERATION WHEN AT COMPLETE STOP AND THEN LURCHING FORWARD. OUR ALTERNATOR IS NOW NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AND IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR 2014 JEEPS WITH DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. OURS CLEARLY HAS A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR.
