Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE WITH ZERO HELP FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT INCLUDE ITEMS REGARDING MY LIGHTS SHUTTING OF DURING NIGHT DRIVING, MY ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN 3 TIMES WHILE PULLING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AS WELL AS MY BRAKES MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE. I HAD HAD OTHER ISSUES BUT AS THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNCOOPERATIVE AND I AM STUCK WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH A CHILD ON THE WAY I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE I FILE A COMPLAINT IN AS MANY PLACES AS I CAN BEFORE I SIMPLY LOOK TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE. ALL ISSUES OCCURED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ALL HAVE OCCURRED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP BUT AS THE SERVICE CENTER NEVER DOCUMENTED MY ITEMS PROPERLY I WAS STUCK WITH A LEMON AS I PUT 50K MILES ON IN THE FIRST YEAR DUE TO MY COMMUTE TO MY EMPLOYER FROM MILFORD, NH TO BURLINGTON, MA BEFORE MOVING BACK TO MA WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT ISSUE WAS MY BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH LEAKS WATER INTO IT AND FREEZES DURING COLD WEATHER AND MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING AROUND SINCE FEB AS THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER IT AS THEY CLAIM TO HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE RECALLED ITEM SO I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A DISPUTE OVER THAT NOW AS WELL. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

ALTERNATOR SEIZED ON THE CAR AFTER ONLY 33,000 APPROX. THE VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE 36 MONTH WARRANTY. JEEP WILL NOT FIX AND SAYS IT DOES NOT FALL UNDER RECALL P60/ NHTSA 14 -634 EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUES DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL ARE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND FCA AND NEITHER ARE WILLING TO WORK WITH ME OR DO ANYTHING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I'M TOLD PER MY VIN NUMBER THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THE FAULTY ALTERNATOR YET IT HAS THE EXACT PROBLEMS OF THE RECALLED ONE FROM THE SAME YEAR. ISSUE DESCRIPTION- I WAS DRIVING FROM NASHVILLE TN TO NAPERVILLE IL AND APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS FROM NAPERVILLE I STOPPED FOR GAS AND A BREAK AND UPON STARTING THE CAR THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO NAPERVILLE IL AND UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER. IT SOUNDED LIKE A VACUUM CLEANER AND NOT LIKE A NORMAL ENGINE. I KEEP DRIVING AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. AS I PULLED IN I LOST ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE BRAKES. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. UPON TAKING IT TO MY MECHANIC, THEN TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP IT WAS DETERMINED THE ALTERNATOR SEIZED AND DAMAGED THE BATTERY AND BELT. THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT IT AND I'M NOW PAYING $680 FOR REPAIRS.

"TAKATA RECALL" DRIVING TO WORK MY CAR MADE A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME OUT. I LET IT SIT DURING WORK AND AFTER WORK I STARTED IT UP. I THEN HOPPED IN AND WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL COMING INTO THE TRUCK AND IT WAS SMOKING FROM THE HOOD AT A STOP LIGHT. I PROCEEDED HOME AND THE SMOKE WAS NOW INSIDE THE CAR. MY BABY COUSIN WAS IN THE CAR AND HE BEGAN COUGHING, THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED OVER AND NOTICED IT WAS VERY SMOKY IN THE CAR. I KEPT DRIVING HOME (THE STREET WAY) ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN SLIGHTLY FOR VENTILATION AND NOTICED THAT MY PARKING SENSE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THE NEXT LIGHT, MY ABN LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS. THAT BEGAN TO SCARE ME AND I KNEW IT WASN'T JUST MY BATTERY. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE THE SMOKE FROM THE HOOD INCREASED AS WELL AS IN THE CAR. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN GOING CRAZY, AND I COULD TELL THAT THE CAR WASN'T LETTING ME USE THE GAS ANYMORE AND THE WHEEL BEGAN TO LOCK UP. THIS REALLY MADE ME NERVOUS BECAUSE IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN IT. AT THIS POINT IM PANICKING AND CAUSING TRAFFIC. PULLING INTO A SAFE LOCATION,THE WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED AT THIS POINT AND EVEN PUSHING THE BRAKE WAS HARD. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR WOULDN'T LET ME PUT IT IN PARK, THEN THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF. THE SMOKING CONTINUED FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT I JUMPED OUT AS SOON AS IT CAME TO A STOP. LUCKILY I TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE HOME OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I THEN CALLED AAA AND WAITED OUTSIDE TO GET THE TRUCK TOWED. IT TOOK THEM 25 MINUTES TO COME AFTER A 5 MINUTE PHONE CALL REQUESTING THEIR SERVICES. I GOT MY BELONGINGS OUT OF THE TRUCK AND IT STILL SMELLED LIKE BURNT SMOKE EVEN AFTER WAITING WITH THE WINDOW CRACKED. I DON'T HAVE PICTURES, I HAVE VIDEOS.

WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT WITH OUR 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE BACKSEAT. AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. SHE CALLED ME IN A PANIC. I CALLED THE JEEP DEALER WHO CAME AND TOWED THE VEHICLE IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE THE JEEP WAS IN THE SHOP AT CALIFORNIA SUPERSTORES IN VALENCIA, CA. THEY CALLED ME SEVERAL TIMES TO COME AND PICK THE CAR UP BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED, BUT THAT THERE WAS NOT A "FIX" FOR IT. DUE TO CONCERNS FOR MY FAMILYS SAFETY I REFUSED TO PICK THE CAR UP AND CALLED CHRYSLER WHO TOLD ME NOT TO PICK THE CAR UP, THAT IT WAS DANGEOUS TO DRIVE IT. THE NEXT WEEKI WAS AGAIN TOLD TO COME AND PICK THE CAR UP, THIS TIME BY BOTH THE DEALER AT CALIFORNIA SUPERSTORES, VALENCIA, CA AND BY THE CORPORATE PEOPLE AT CHRYSLER, AND TOLD THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR JUST RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING IT. I OPENED A CLAIM WITHCHRYSLER CORP. ABOUT THE CAR STALLING OUT BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK ABOUT ANY FIX OR RECALL. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I AM NOT RECEIVING ANY HELP FROM THE DEALER OR CHRYSLER CORP. I PAID ALMOST $38,000 FOR THE CAR AND DO NOT EVEN WANT TO DRIVE IT OR HAVE MY FAMILY IN IT DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY THAT IT COULD STALL AGAIN (IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES), THE STEERING GO OUT, AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT HARMING US OR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROADWAYS.

TRANSMISSION ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER. IN APRIL 2015 MY VEHICLE ROLLED INTO A PARKING LOT GUARDRAIL, AFTER I THOUGHT THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN PARK. THE LEFT FRONT FENDER WAS DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I FILED A REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM WITH FCA ON 05-27-16 AND WAS RECENTLY DENIED.

THIS MORNING5/16/16 I TURNED MY GRAND CHEROKEE ON,PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TO WORK, I FELT THAT THE CAR WAS NOT CHANGING GEARS, IT HESITATES AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AN OFF,AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 4 MILES THE CAR STOPPED AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT ME CHANGING GEARS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAVE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER MORE THAN ONE TIME FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WHICH INCLUDE: SELF-ACCELARATION WHILE DRIVING, STALLING IN HIGH WAY, AND FEW OTHER RECALLS FROM THE COMPANY. IT HAS BEEN A NIGHT MARE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE, ONE PROBLEM AFTER THE OTHER! MORE THAN DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS CAR.

MY CURRENT LEASE, A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH DEFECTS. THERE HAVE BEEN 9 RECALLS, 16 SERVICE BULLETINS, AND 5 INVESTIGATIONS'.IN ADDITION THERE ARE 587 DRIVER/OWNER COMPLAINTS. MY PROBLEMS: INSTABILITY OF THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER PARKING NEXT TO A STORAGE BIN, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF PARK AND THE JEEP MOVED FORWARD CRUSHING MY LEG IN THE DOOR AND DENTING/SCRATCHING THE EXTERIOR OF VEHICLE. THERE HAS BEEN NO INDICATION THAT FCA (JEEP) HAS RESOLVED THIS ISSUE. ANOTHER PROBLEM I'M HAVING, WHICH HAS BEEN PLAGUING MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS, IS WHERE THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES WITH NO INDICATION OF SPECIFIC INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO WHAT THE MALFUNCTION MIGHT BE. AFTER 5 SERVICE VISITS OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS , JEEP HAS PROVEN THEY UNABLE TO REMEDY THIS. I CONTINUE DRIVING WITH UNCERTAINTY AND STRESS WITH MY PASSENGERS AND I FEARING OURLIVES MAY BE ENDANGERED. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS CURRENTLY ILLUMINATED. I AM NOT GETTING THE LEVEL OF VEHICLE SAFETY AND DEPENDABILITY I AM PAYING FOR. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT ON THE WEBSITE OF JEEP AND HAVE OFFERED FCA(JEEP) A SETTLEMENT WHEREBY I WOULD BE REFUNDED THE LEASING CHARGES I PAID AND THE COMPANY WOULD CONSENT TO AN EARLY TERMINATION OF THE LEASE WITH NO PENALTIES OR CHARGES. FCA(JEEP) HAS FAILED TO REMEDY MY PROBLEM. (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DETAILS) FCA US LLC IS REQUIRED TO EXECUTE CERTAIN PERFORMANCE OBLIGATIONS , PURSUANT TO THE JULY 24, 2015 CONSENT ORDER, AMENDED DECEMBER 8, 2015, THE OBJECTIVES OF WHICH ARE TO MITIGATE THE RISKS OF HARM AND PROMOTE SAFETY FOR WE, THE CONSUMERS. FCA, HOWEVER, PERSISTS IN VIOLATING AND DISREGARDING ME IN A BLATANT ACT OF NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE ORDER. I SEEK ASSISTANCE IN EXPEDITING REMEDIAL ACTION IN THIS MATTER AS A VICTIM, AND THE PROTECTION OF MY RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER, AND AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN. THE PROBLEM(S) THAT I HAVE HAD OR CURRENTLY HAVE WITH MY VEHICLE ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. JULY 8, 2015: (MILEAGE 12,453) CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIGHTING UP AND THEN THE ENGINE DIED LATER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. FINALLY THE CAR STARTED UP HOWEVER THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT AND I DROVE IT HOME IN LOW GEAR. ON JULY 9, 2015, I TOOK THE CAR INTO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN CENTRALIA WASHINGTON (SEE SERVICE SLIP) AND IT WAS RETURNED TO ME ON JULY 13, 2015. 2. JULY 15, 2015: AGAIN, THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR WAS STUCK IN LOW GEAR. I TURNED THE CAR INTO TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT (SEE SERVICE SLIP) ON JULY 16, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON AUGUST 18, 2015. 3. AUGUST 24, 2015: AGAIN THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR STUCK IN LOW GEAR AND THE MOTOR WAS SURGING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON AUGUST 25, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED ON AUGUST 28, 2015. 4. AUGUST 31, 2015: I DROVE TO SEATTLE AND AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SHIFTER LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND SPEEDOMETER NUMBERS WOULD GO FROM LARGE FONT TO SMALL FONT. WHEN DASH LIGHTS AND WARNING LIGHTS PLUS DIFFERENT CHARACTERS FLASHED THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE. CURRENTLY, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 BECAUSE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY. IM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR AND CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY FAMILIES. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR STALLED ON ME IT HAPPENED AT A STOP SIGN ON A TWO WAY HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SURGING IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN WITH-OUT MY CAR OVER 43 PLUS DAYS AND HAVE BEEN GREATLY INCONVENIENCED.

I HAVE A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THE ECO DIESEL OPTION. AT 7100 MILES AFTER OIL CHANGE AND REFILL OF DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INDICATOR ON DASH DISPLAYED INCORRECT DEF FLUID AND SERVICE DEF NEEDED OR VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART IN 200 MILES. IT TOOK A WEEK AND 1 BUSINESS DAY BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP COULD EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE DUE TO BACKUP IN SCHEDULING. AFTER THREE DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSIS WITH DPF CONVERTOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT, DEF SENSOR FAILURE, DEF INJECTOR FAILURE, AND O2 SENSOR FAILURE. AND THE PARTS WOULD TAKE 3 WEEKS JUST TO GET IN. TO ME THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES SHOULD NOT NEED THIS MANY REPAIRS WITH LONG DELAY JUST TO GET PARTS. IT SEEMS THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PROPERLY ENGINEERED AND CANNOT MEET EMISSION STANDARDS LONG TERM. PLUS A VEHICLE THAT WILL TURN OFF AND NOT RESTART AT 200 MILES IS A DANGER TO A CONSUMER. JUST BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS THERE ARE NUMEROUS OWNERS OF 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ECO DIESEL WITH THE SAME ISSUES. AND THE PROBLEMS ARE NEVER REALLY RESOLVED , PERMANENTLY FIXED AND OCCUR AGAIN. IN MY OPINION FCA SHOULD BE MADE TO BUY BACK THESE VEHICLE AND REDESIGNED TO AT LEAST MEET 80000 MILES EMISSION STANDARD WITH REALISTIC DURABILITY. THE CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT BE TEST SUBJECTS ON A UNRELIABLE VEHICLE UNTIL FCA COMES UP WITH FIXES TO VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. IN ADDITION SOME CONSUMERS ON INTERNET SITE HAVE BE TOLD TO IGNORE ENGINE PROBLEM INDICATOR LIGHT WARNING UNTIL FCA COMES UP WITH FIXES.

WHEN IDLING IN TRAFFIC WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, THE RPM'S ON THE TRANSMISSION ACCELERATES FOR UNKNOWN REASONS UNTIL THE ENGINE IS DISENGAGED AND PLACED INTO PARK OR NETURAL. THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR - DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO FIX PROBLEM.
