Recalls and investigations

  1. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleNov 7, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

A vehicle that can be started and shifted out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway. Disabled ABS and ESC systems can reduce vehicle handling and control in certain driving situations. Brake lights that incorrectly illuminate can fail to properly indicate the driver's intention to following traffic. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 94B. This recall replaces previous recall number 22V-426. Vehicles previously remedied under 22V-426 will need to have the new remedy completed.

  2. Engine and engine coolingJun 8, 2023

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated July 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 66A. This recall is an expansion of recall 20V-475.

  3. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleJun 9, 2022

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may illuminate the brake lights, and allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

A vehicle that starts and shifts out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside of the vehicle.

This recall is replaced by NHTSA recall number 24V838. Vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedy completed. The remedy includes updated HCU/ABS module software that prevents the HCU/ABS module from falsely reading pressure in the primary circuit. FCA has decided to do a two-Phase Campaign remedy schedule. Phase 1 began November 17, 2022. Phase 2 begin date has not been determined yet. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed July 28, 2020. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2014-2019 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation.

Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. Interim notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 21, 2022. Owner notification letters for were mailed for Jeep Grand Cherokee owners starting January 11, 2024. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with the 3.0L EcoDiesel engines. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.

Combustion in the intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.

FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EGR cooler, free of charge. Dealers will also inspect and, as necessary, replace the intake manifold. Parts are not currently available. Owners were mailed an interim notification on December 21, 2021. If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TRACKHAWK THROTTLE STUCK OPEN AND BEGAN ACCELERATING AFTER REMOVING FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL. THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO THE FLOOR MAT RECALL AS I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I HAD TO PRESS THE IGNITION TO TURN THE POWER OFF AND SLAM HARD ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE.

THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAD BEEN ON CRUISE CONTROL, WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN TRAFFIC FOR 30-45 SECONDS ON I-95 IN SOUTH CAROLINA. THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD WHILE THE DRIVER YELLED AT ME 'MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE'. IT SUBSIDED ONCE, THEN SURGED AHEAD AGAIN, LEAVING SKID MARKS AND COLLIDING WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. IT THEN SURGED A THIRD TIME, PLOUGHING THAT CAR AHEAD, BEFORE THE DRIVER COULD SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK

THROTTLE HAS STUCK ON FULL THROTTLE 2 TIMES WHILE ACCELERATING ON CITY STREET. THE ONLY WAY TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN WAS TO PUT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY BRAKES HARD. VERY SCARY SITUATION! OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SANE PROBLEM. *DT CONSUMER STATED OTHER OWNERS HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED STUCK THROTTLES ALSO. 2017/2018 JEEP CHEROKEE SRT WITH 6.4 LITRE HEMI ENGINE AND 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TRACKHAWK WITH SUPERCHARGED 602 HELLCAT HEMI ENGINE. I KNOW OF ONE PERSON THAT HAS FILED A CLAIM WITH THE NHTSA. I'VE ATTACHED 2 PICTURES OF MY THROTTLE PEDAL AND FLOOR MAT. WHEN FULLY DEPRESSED IT DOES NOT TOUCH THE FLOOR MAT. I PUSHED ON IT A HUNDRED TIMES AND IT DID NOT STICK. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE FLOOR MAT IS THE PROBLEM. I HAD IT AT THE DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. VERY SCARED TO DRIVE. ON OCCASION, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PUSHED ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, IT WOULD GET STUCK UNDER THE FLOOR MAT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS AT FULL THROTTLE AND THE BRAKES WILL NOT OVERCOME THE ENGINE. I'VE RESOLVED THE PROBLEM IN MY VEHICLE BY REMOVING THE FLOOR MAT. I CALLED JEEP CARES AND WARNED THEM OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THEY'VE KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I'M REPORTING THIS WITH THE HOPE THAT YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS AND GET A WARNING OUT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. WE WERE USING CRUISE CONTROL IN OUR NEW JEEP. AS WE WERE APPROACHING A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, WE TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL BY USING THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY ENGAGED AND LOCKED, BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT MOVING FORWARD INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY, THE DRIVER OF AN 18 WHEELER SAW US UNABLE TO STOP AND SWERVED. HIS SWERVING AND OUR STEERING CAUSED US TO BE STOPPED BY HIS HIND WHEEL. IF THE OTHER DRIVER HAD NOTICED US ONE SECOND SLOWER, WE WOULD HAVE LIKELY BEEN DEAD. THERE WAS $11,121.91 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO OUR BRAND NEW JEEP WITH 3,500 MILES ON IT. THIS JEEP IS NOT YET PART OF THE RECALL FOR THE EXACT CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE OUTLINED. WE ARE FILING THIS, BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT ANOTHER OWNER OF THIS MODEL TO NOT BE AS LUCKY AS US AND WE WOULD LIKE TO NOT BE OUT OF POCKET FOR THE DAMAGES. JEEP FLEW SOMEONE DOWN FROM MICHIGAN TO CHECK OUT THE VEHICLE'S BLACK BOX AND SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. WE HAVE THE CONTACT INFORMATION OF THE TRUCK DRIVER WHO CAN ATTEST THAT THE BRAKES WERE FULLY ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE ALL WALKED AWAY UNHARMED PHYSICALLY, BUT THE MONETARY PAIN CUTS DEEP. *TT *TR
