Recalls and investigations

  1. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleNov 7, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

A vehicle that can be started and shifted out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway. Disabled ABS and ESC systems can reduce vehicle handling and control in certain driving situations. Brake lights that incorrectly illuminate can fail to properly indicate the driver's intention to following traffic. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 94B. This recall replaces previous recall number 22V-426. Communication screen started to delaminate and causes ghost touching. I can be driving along and the radio plays or changes stations, it has dialed contacts, etc. Without me touching the screen. When it happens it requires special attention such as trying to cancel a call being made or turning off the radio.

  2. Electrical system, May 17, 2023

  3. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, May 14, 2023

8.4” unconnect touch screen radio is bubbling. This bubbling causes the touch screen to select randomly. It will change climate control setting, screen settings, turn the radio on, turn seat heaters on, manipulate the navigation system. This becomes a large distraction while on the road and is extremely dangerous. This is a known issue with these radios in several Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler/Ram models. We have taken the vehicle to the dealer and asked for this safety issue to be addressed. They have responded that we are responsible to fix at our own cost.

  4. Other or unspecified, May 12, 2023

The radio had delaminated causing my radio to start switching stations randomly, rendering my dashboard useless- no phone, no navigation, unable to adjust heat, indoor cabin temperature, or hear radio.

THE WORSE THING THAT HAS HAPPENED IS I STARTED MY CAR WITH MY GRANDBABY IN HER CARSEAT, I HOPPED OUT TO LOCK MY HOUSE DOOR AND THE CAR WENT INTO REVERSE AND RAN INTO BARBWIRE FENCE, THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES MY CAR HAS SLAMMED ON THE BRACKS WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY BARLEY MOVING IT ALMOST GAVE ME WHIPLASH. MY RADIO JUMPS AROUND CHANNELS, I HAVE REPORTED IN THE PAST BUT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND STARTED TURNING ON THE HEATER ON HIGH AND I CANT STOP IT.

  6. Electrical system, May 5, 2023

My communication screen started to delaminate and causes ghost touching. I can be driving along and the radio plays or changes stations, it has dialed contacts, etc. without me touching the screen. When it happens it requires special attention such as trying to cancel a call being made or turning off the radio. Online searches seem to indicate this is a common issue with Jeeps and Chrysler products around the model year 2018. Naturally, the car company is hands off but my research suggested informing NHTSA as you may want to monitor how often this happens. Thank you.

  7. Electrical system, May 4, 2023

The uconnect system has been malfunctioning. The uconnect system has all functions for radio, climate control, system functions, Phone, backup camera, gps, etc. the system started randomly making phone calls, switching radio channels, wanting to connect or disconnect devices, displaying the rear view camera and gps screen jumping around giving misleading directions all occurring while driving. We took the car in to see if it can be fixed. Jeep dealer advised a new system was needs at a cost of $1500. Jeep is unwilling to correct the condition without replacing the unit but there is no guaranty the issue won’t reappear. Most recently there was a software push that will not load due the internal system error. Creating another distraction with a recurring error code popping up due to update failure.

  8. Electrical system, May 2, 2023

I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Edition. The laminate is coming away from the radio screen and it keeps showing an "adjust clock message" and "morse code" like beeping. It is a complete distraction. Due to the laminate coming away from the screen the unit starts overriding the driver choices, like the handsfree features, radio, heated seats, etc. This is a safety issue with the car controlling things the driver should be. It's been going on now for a month.

  9. Other or unspecified, Apr 25, 2023

The LG Screen in the dashboard is delaminating and causing the radio and various bluetooth functions to go haywire. The radio stations change and dance across the screen, the temperature in the car changes without my touching it, and phone calls are initiated totally on their own without my involvement. This is highly distracting while driving. I'm told by the dealership who services my vehicle that the screen plus the electronic components all have to be replaced to the cost of over $1,000 and that it is not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty I have on the vehicle. I've researched this problem online and have discovered that many cars/SUVs have this issue and apparently it is due to a faulty LG screen. I found this in chat groups and have not independently verified it. I am writing to your administration to request you look into this issue and if it is as widespread as it appears to be, I think you should consider the safety aspects of the distraction this causes and recall the LG screen and associated components.

  10. Electrical system, Apr 20, 2023

Control screen is delaminating causing ghost controls and making it impossible to adjust or turn on/off climate controls- AC, heating, dehumidifier… making it UNSAFE to drive. In addition radio stations jump from one to another - a mere distraction in comparison to the climate control problems Please recall !!

  11. Other or unspecified, Apr 18, 2023

The uconnect screen started to delaminate, causing the screen to push buttons and make selections all on its own. While driving on the highway the screen start beeping loudly and wouldn’t stop as it was “ghost” pressing buttons on the screen and I could not get it under control. You can’t use any of the features of the screen because of the “ghost” pressing. I have no more access to the backup camera, no access to navigation and will need to rely on a mobile device. This is a common issue for many uconnect vehicles and should require a recall for replacement. I was never given a warning, it just started beeping and flashing screens while driving which was distracting and unsafe. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, so I would have to pay for this clearly a recall issue.

  12. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Apr 18, 2023

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer due to the ABS warning light being illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to receive the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V426000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact noticed that the recall stated that the repair would take 30 or more minutes however, the dealer completed the repair within 10 minutes. The failure persisted the gear shifter failed to display the correct gear that the vehicle had been shifted into. Additionally, the fuel level indicator failed to provide the correct fuel level in the vehicle. The contact also stated that the windshield wipers would activate independently on occasions. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit and ABS needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact was able to jumpstart the vehicle and drove to her residence; however, the failure reoccurred in front of her residence. The dealer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,524.

  14. Electrical system, Apr 11, 2023

The touch screen on the info-tainment head unit is delaminating which is causing the screen to register touches that did not occur. These "ghost" touches are resulting in the head-unit changing settings, starting navigation without prompt, and making phone calls. The un-prompted phone calls has been particularly distracting as there is no means to hang up and has forced me to the side of the road several times to try and end the call. On occasion, the system has made calls to 911 without me prompting it. These incidents have made driving with the head unit operating un-safe

  15. Other or unspecified, Apr 8, 2023

Glue from radio screen melts off in hot weather causing delamination which then causing the radio screen to do whatever it wants. Will have gps on then will go to radio screen or any other screen will even turn on heated seats or steering will on it’s one because the screen is messed up

  16. Electrical system, Apr 8, 2023

Radio does not work properly. The radio jumps around all setting, and makes calls if cellphone is connected.

  17. Electrical system, Apr 3, 2023

Screen de-laminated, causing ghost touching and different radio stations to be selected nonstop, volume to increase/decrease without the ability to manually intervene, called 911 by itself while driving the vehicle.

  18. Electrical system, Mar 31, 2023

Screen delamination of the connect screen has started causing severe ghost touching. Making the system useless and distracting. Unable to use handsfree systems, navigation, radio, or access vehicle settings including the jack mode for the air suspension. On my vehicle it has not been diagnosed by the dealer but this is a known and common issue with this system for 2018 and 2019 and fca\stellantis needs to be forced into a recall for this.

  19. Engine, Mar 30, 2023

Jeep issued a recall for the high pressure fuel pump on our 2018 Grand Cherokee about a year ago and a redesigned fuel pump by Bosch is still not available. I am unable to travel out of state for fear that the fuel pump will fail possibly causing a crash or leaving me stranded at my own expense. Why have a recall if the manufacturer can just ignore it and start discontinuing the product which Jeep has started to do at the beginning of 2023. Repeated attempts to get service from Jeep for the recall have resulted in the message no parts available. What is NHTSA doing about this recall?

  20. Power train, Engine, Mar 29, 2023, fire

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 55,575 miles was parked in a parking garage all day in Brooklyn NY and when the vehicle was move to the front of the garage by parking attendants the engine started smoking and caught fire. There were no leaks, dashboard symbols or open recalls to cause the fire; additionally the car was linked to a iPhone App CarRx that can scan for any issue and no issue noted. This engine fire not only put all of the other vehicles in the park garage at risk of catching fire but the parking garage sits under a luxury apartment building putting the working and residents at risk. Additionally I commute between Brooklyn and NJ 3x a week and cant imagine what would have happened if I was driving the vehicle over the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Brooklyn Queens Express or in the Holland Tunnel during high commuter rush hour traffic. Car was checked out by a Jeep Dealership who confirm fire was not caused by any leaks or electrical issue but did mentioned it seems to have started around the engine air cleaner. The current status of the issue has been an open investigation with Jeep Corporate for going on the 3rd week with no communication or updates on status. The entire issue and fire from pulling into the garage to the when the car was moved to it smoking and catching fire is all documented on security video.

  21. Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 28, 2023

  22. Power train, Service brakes, Hydraulic, Mar 27, 2023

The contact’s wife owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the ABS, brake lights, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear tires locked up inadvertently, without the brake pedal being depressed. The contact stated that there was a pulsation coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact believed that the failure was associated with an unknown recall. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ABS control module and the hydraulic control module (HCU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

  23. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Engine, Mar 21, 2023

There is an electrical failure that causes the blinkers to stop working, shortly after noticing this issue the vehicle will fail to start after travelling to my destination. This has happened more than twice and there are no recalls shown for the "Limited" version of this vehicle. The standard edition seems to have confirmed recalls for the same issues that the Limited version is experiencing. A mechanic has described an electrical short circuit. I encourage looking into the different models of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which you'll definitely find the same safety issues described online by many others. These repairs need to be addressed and repaired by the manufacturer. Thank you!

  24. Electrical system, Mar 21, 2023

I am the original owner of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 45,000 miles on it (it is out of the warranty period). About 9 months ago, I notice a portion of the center screen becoming delaminated. Then about 4 months ago, the screen started to act up - ghost pressing certain areas of the screen, without me touching it (automatically turning up the volume, turning on heated seats (in Florida), changing audio sources, changing the gps, etc.). It's extremely distracting when I drive. Last week, it even dialed 911 on its own while I was driving it. I contacted Jeep Cares and was instructed to take it into a dealer for a diagnostic check. They are charging me $190 for this. Even when they find the screen defective, I'm fearful that I will be charged the $1,600-$2,000 to have it replaced. This is a very known issue among Jeep/Chrysler owner - many forums like this (https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/display-screen-starting-to-delaminate.224391/) prove it. Even though I am out of warranty, I feel that this should be recalled and covered at no charge (including the diagnostic check) since it's a major safety issue. The screen was defective to begin with - and after driving it for a few year, the defects were finally known. This needs to replaced ASAP before a severe accident takes place.
