  1. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Aug 5, 2025

Car completely shut off while saying the electrical hybrid system needed to be serviced. Car turned back on and light was off. Check engine light going on and off as well. When going lower speeds the cars rpms rev all the way up, almost to the red, and while your pressing the gas doesn’t move but then jerks and goes forward. Your head slams into the seat and it’s extremely unsafe especially if you are in stop and go traffic. The car has been spitting and sputtering. Brought it to the dealership I just purchased it from, I’ve only made one payment. They stated that Chrysler is aware of the problem but that there is no solution as of right now. Extremely unsafe to drive and do not feel safe with my daughter in the car with the car jerking forward and being delayed with the gas and rpms increasing.

  2. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 31, 2025

Total loss of power while driving I got a red wrench hybrid system warning light when driving at 45 MPH. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE lost all power and a warning that told me to pull over when it was safe. The total loss of power almost cause an accident. I waiting a few minutes and the vehicle started up and I drove home. I am reluctant to drive the vehicle.

  3. Electrical system, Jul 30, 2025

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer twice, and they say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been over a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. Here is an example forum discussion, indicating many if not all vehicles are affected: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  5. Electrical system, Seats, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 23, 2025

Instrument panel switches to Italian, forward collision off light gets stuck on and my seat moved abruptly while I was driving down the road. I have taken my Jeep into the dealership last year for this problem, it was “fixed” but has come back. Noticed the light stuck on last week. Today while I was driving the panel changed to Italian and my seat moved abruptly. Many people on online forums express experiencing the same problem.

Car has a defective hybrid battery that is unrepairable by manufacturer and the vehicle will turn off while driving

  7. Electrical system, Jul 19, 2025

While driving on the highway the vechile showed a hybrid error on dashboard then completely shut down. In order to move I had to stop and restart the car.

  8. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Jul 18, 2025

While driving the vehicle, several warning lights activated, the first being automatic emergency braking is disabled. The second warning light advised me to not turn the car off until I got to my destination. It further advised that I would not be able to shift gears. The vehicle began to slow down on its own until it came to a complete stop. I was in the middle of an intersection when this happened. The dashboard was displaying a message saying press brake and push button to start car. Nothing happened when I did that. I could not shift gears or get the vehicle to move at all. Even though, I was getting the message to push the button to start the vehicle, I believe the vehicle was actually on. I was stuck near the intersection for one hour with a tow truck on the way when I was finally able to turn the e vehicle off. When it turned back on, the check engine light was on and the vehicle was able to drive. It has now happened three times.

  9. Steering, Suspension, Jul 16, 2025

I bought this Jeep new in 2023 and it started making this noise when it had 7000 miles on it. If was normal operational noise, why didn't it have it when it was new? Many owners on Jeep forums (JeepGarage, WLJeepForum, JeepForum, WranglerForum) report: Rattle starts light and worsens with heat soak. The company often states it is a “normal operational noise. ”Some report replacement of the entire sway bar disconnect actuator assembly under warranty resolving the noise temporarily or permanently but there is no standardized procedure. After an hour drive, the loud banging noise is huge distraction while driving. I have driven for many years and have never heard anything such as this rattle trap, especially for upward of $80,000, while fearing that it may leave the road at anytime. Any suggestions would be helpful. The worst vehicle I have ever driven and I am [XXX], INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  10. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 16, 2025

While driving in Hybrid mode, the Jeep threw itself into park. I was at the middle of an intersection. I put it back in drive, then it did it again once I started moving. 1. The hybrid mode threw the car into park while moving. 2. This happened to me a few times in a row, but once in the middle of a major intersection. I was lucky there were no cars that crashed into me. 3. I have brought this into Chrysler, Jeep, Doge of Paulding (Georgia) and they have reached out to the engineers at Chrysler. The service department is telling me that Chrysler is telling them there is no fix to this. I put in a ticket with Chrysler as well and they confirmed this. My ticket number is 93581933 4. the vehicle has only been inspected by the service department at the dealership. 5. I did get a hybrid engine maintenance light one time when it went into park. But not each time it did it.

  11. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 15, 2025

Within days after completing the 95b recall (24v-720) on my Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV , the vehicle would periodically flash an error message saying ”service hybrid system” or something to that effect. It would illuminate for just a few seconds. On May 21, I took the vehicle back to the dealership (Brigham-Gill, Natick, MA). They read several codes and after conferring with Jeep, said the vehicle is unsafe to drive. It has remained there parked in their backlot as of July 15. The dealership is awaiting guidance from Jeep and informed me they have several others in the same situation. So there were few issues here 1) if I hadn’t returned to the dealership to ask about these brief flashing messages, I would not have known that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. These messages never stayed illuminated for more than a few seconds, and there is no residual “check engine” light. 2) it is incorrect to say that the 95B recall addressed the issue of the failing batteries if it renders the vehicle in operable. 3) the 95B recall patch software was released in January 2025. I find it hard to believe that as of mid July they’ve been unable to find out why it doesn’t work in all the vehicles as intended. This leads me to question the thoroughness of the regression testing before it was released.

  12. Power train, Engine, Jul 14, 2025

The red wrench light keeps coming on, Hybrid system needs repair. It looses power for a short period of time, every time has been on the freeway. It makes a hugh crunch noise(transmission) and slams into gear. It is available for inspection, currently at dealership, it has been there for last week. This problem has been persistent, its been in many times for this issue. Chrysler told me they do not have a fix. It is all over the chat forums. We do not feel safe driving this car because it looses power temporarily and on the freeway. Many others are having problems with it stopping from a loss of power. It has been inspected by the dealership and in for repairs many times. This vehicle has been in the dealership on a regular basis since it was new. It has always had a power train issue, clunky and loss of power. Now it is worse and they don't have a repair. It has also had engine lights coming on and off. Had issue with having to put it in park turn off and turn back on to get it in gear. The loss of power on the freeway is the persistent issue right now. These cars need pulled off the roads until they are fixed!

The contact stated that the unknown warning lights indicated powertrain failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle had been scheduled for an upcoming diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 50,089.

  15. Power train, Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 12, 2025

Vehicle suffers from a documented hybrid defect (DTC B273C-00) that causes loss of electric propulsion, disables hybrid modes, and triggers "Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System" warnings. The problem first appeared around Feb 2025 and was confirmed by FCA’s own STAR bulletins and dealership diagnostics. No validated fix exists; dealership only cleared the fault code temporarily. The defect led to: • Power loss during highway merge on [XXX], with children in the car • Sudden unintended acceleration on [XXX] • Persistent warnings and failure to operate in advertised hybrid/electric modes for over 120+ days FCA refused to repurchase, replace, or permanently repair, despite acknowledging the defect and safety risk in internal documents. The vehicle remains in ICE-only mode, depriving it of the key safety and efficiency features it was designed to provide. The defect significantly raises risk of collision due to unpredictable propulsion response, and no dealership or FCA representative provided written certification the vehicle is safe in all drive modes. Vehicle purchased in Wisconsin but always registered and operated exclusively in Illinois. Arbitration through NCDS confirmed the defect exists but denied relief, citing insufficient corroboration. Problem was reproduced and confirmed by certified dealership and documented in service records. This complaint is part of an ongoing concern that hybrid system EMI issues (like DTC B273C-00) pose systemic safety risk and remain unresolved. The vehicle will suddenly and without warning lose power while in operation in the middle of traffic. The vehicle will coast to a stop without power, no power steering, no power braking, etc. This is an extreme safety concern. The vehicle losing power in traffic and coming to stop poses serious and great risk to the health and safety of both the occupants and any other vehicles and their occupants on the roadway. This has now occurred multiple times, due to the inability of FCA to repair this defect, my family’s health and safety has been repeatedly endangered and will continue to be endangered with continued use of this vehicle. The most recent occurrence of the vehicle losing power and jeopardizing the life, health, and safety of my family occurred on May 9th, 2025 with the service appointment initiated May 10th, 2025. At this time no further repair attempt has been made by FCA. FCA has finally admitted that this is related to code B273C

  17. Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 8, 2025

The car loses power while indicating a battery failure. It does this both while driving and the when idling. It has done so on the highway in traffic twice and around town a handful of times and routinely will do so when idling.

  18. Electrical system, Jul 8, 2025

Red wrench dash warning comes on alerting an issue with the hybrid electrical system. It has been diagnosed by the dealer multiple times with no resolution and warning it could be related to various emergency systems. This has been ongoing since the potential battery fire software update several months ago. Jeep acknowledges the problem but has no fix for it.

  19. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 7, 2025

Driving vehicle and it lost all power. Warning light for Service PHEV came on solid on dash. Switched to ESave and was able to drive approx 2 blocks and vehicle lost power again in middle of road. Shifted to neutral, restarted and was able to side of road. Called tow company to deliver to dealer. Side note- vehicle was in dealer on 6/30 with flashing Service PHEV light; dealer ran code and returned with DTC of B273C-00 (Digital Crash Input). Dealer stated that vehicle is going into a “limp mode” due to 95B software update, and that there is not a fix, and other vehicles are at dealership unable to repair. When asked for advice what I should do, the response was “ do not take a long road trip”. I drove approx 60 miles since and the vehicle went into solid limp mode. Being evaluated at dealership currently.

  20. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 7, 2025

Without warning or being given an option to reject the update, my vehicle was updated to settings that no longer offer paddle shifting or the ability to enable or disable the Pedestrian Emergency Braking (PEB) system. The latter results in being unable to turn off the Forward Collision Off light on the dashboard. The update also wiped out most of my settings and changed units of measure to the metric system. 552(B)(6)

When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). 22. Suspension, Jun 24, 2025

Incident Date: [XXX] Vehicle: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe | VIN [XXX] | Mileage = 28,853 While driving 20 mph on a paved suburban road in Danville, CA, the driver-side rear lower control arm suddenly fractured without warning. The wheel shifted, and I was barely able to stop safely. Had this occurred at highway speeds, a loss of control—and possible crash—was likely. The Jeep was towed to the selling dealer. After inspection, the service department blamed “witness marks” (small surface nicks) and told me to file an insurance claim, stating it was not a warranty issue. The vehicle has never been in a collision and is driven only on paved roads. A routine dealer service in Dec 2024 reported no suspension concerns. Photos attached show: Clean break of the control arm; Minor nicks cited as impact evidence; Street on which the vehicle was being driven when the control arm failed; The Jeep is marketed as off-road capable. A control arm that fails on a county road represents a serious safety defect for all owners. I request NHTSA investigation and manufacturer action. 23. Electrical system, Jun 16, 2025

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious concern regarding my vehicle’s sunroof drainage system. Recently, a professional repair shop confirmed that the sunroof drain hose had become disconnected behind the firewall. As a result, water leaked into the interior of the vehicle and caused extensive corrosion to major electrical components, including the wiring harness and fuse box located behind the dashboard. The shop provided an estimate of approximately $5,000 to repair the damage, all directly related to water intrusion from this detached hose. At no point was I ever informed—by the manufacturer, dealership, or in the owner’s manual—that the sunroof drain hose required any type of regular maintenance or inspection. This lack of guidance left me completely unaware of any risk of disconnection or the potential for serious water damage as a result. I am also aware that there was a class-action lawsuit a few years ago related to defective sunroof drainage systems in certain vehicle models, which caused similar issues. Given the similarity in symptoms and consequences, I believe this may point to a broader pattern or design flaw that puts other vehicle owners at risk as well. I respectfully ask that NHTSA investigate this matter as a potential safety or design defect. I am happy to provide photos, shop documentation, or additional details upon request. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to re-enable safety features, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer four times. They provide fix that last a week, then say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been almost a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). I am available for any needs and have all paperwork from the four Jeep visits. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
