Recalls and investigations

  1. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchMay 28, 2020

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.

Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an Owner’s Manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 30, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: Recall 16V-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 Altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16V-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

  2. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationDec 19, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.

If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall began February 13, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

  3. Air bags, sensor, occupant classificationApr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

  4. Latches/locks/linkages, hood, latchJan 22, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 6, 2012, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

These vehicles were previously included in recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116, however the previous remedy plan may not have been performed consistently to remove the safety risk. To correct this issue, Nissan will re-notify all affected owners and dealers will replace the hood latch with a new one, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116.

  5. Air bags, frontalOct 20, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

  6. Fuel system, gasolineAug 4, 2015

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) notified the agency on July 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 Nissan Maxima vehicles manufactured February 10, 2015, to August 18, 2015. On October 14, 2015, Nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 Altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a V6 engine manufactured March 30, 2012, to August 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the July 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.

If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer ring between the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. The recall began on September 28, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 1, 2013, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will be instructed to modify the bend angle of the hood actuation lever to eliminate potential interference with the hood inner panel. In addition, dealers will clean and lubricate the latch joint as needed. If significant corrosion is observed, the latch assembly will be replaced. This repairs will be performed free of charge. 1. Air bags, Oct 28, 2015

THE CAR RANDOMLY DISPLAYS THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATION LIGHT WHEN THE SEAT IS EITHER OCCUPIED BY SOMEONE WEIGHING 130-180 POUNDS OR THE SEAT IS EMPTY. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SYSTEM HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND RECALL NUMBER 14V138000 HAS BEEN PERFORMED. SINCE THIS RANDOMLY HAPPENS, NISSAN SAYS "IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY CANNOT AND WILL NOT FIX IT." THIS STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES AND HAS CONTINUED SINCE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE ROADWAY AND THE LIGHT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON. A NISSAN REP SAID TODAY, OCTOBER 29, 2015, THAT IF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY WHILE OCCUPIED BY MY WIFE(5' 5" 180 POUNDS) OR DAUGHTER(4' 10" 130 POUNDS) THAT "THEY WOULD BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED." I HAVE PICTURES AND VIDEOS SHOWING THE MALFUNCTION. IT HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS DATES.

  2. Air bags, Oct 28, 2015

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SEAT WAS BEING OCCUPIED BY A 180 POUND PASSENGER. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS OPERATING AS NORMAL AND THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.....UPDATED 12/30/15 *BF

  3. Air bags, Oct 26, 2015

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT CYCLE OFF WHEN A ADULT IS ON BOARD. THIS OCCURS APROX 15% OF THE TIME AND REQUIRES THE CAR TO BE SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. THIS MITIGATES THE PROBLEM MOST OF THE TIME. CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 3 OCCASIONS TO INCLUDE THE SPRING 14 ALGORITHM RECALL. IF ANYTHING, THE COMPUTER REPROGRAM MADE IT WORSE. NISSAN DEALERS HAVE NO FIX AND IGNORE THE PROBLEM. DEALER TREATS ME LIKE IT IS MY IMAGINATION EVEN THOUGH I HAVE VIDEO RECORDED THE LIGHT ON AT SPEED SEVERAL DOZEN TIMES. MY CAR IS A LEASE AND IT IS GOING BACK IN 6 MONTHS. THIS PROBLEM IS DEPENDENT ON THE "BOOT" PROCESS FAILING. THE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON DURING TRAVEL IF IT PROPERLY CYCLES WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IF THE LIGHT SUCCESSFULLY GOES OUT 5 SECONDS AFTER START, IT STAYS OUT. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS ENGAGED AND WILL FUNCTION? THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY UNTIL NOW, ONGOING....35800 MILES.

  4. Air bags, Oct 20, 2015

I HAVE A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG OCCUPANT SENSOR COMES ON SHOWING THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE ADULT IS 200 LBS. THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON WHILE DRIVING. MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR THE OCCUPANT SENSOR CLASSIFICATION RESET. IT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS AND NO CODES IN THE COMPUTER. IT SEEMS THAT IF THE PASSENGER SITS IN THE CAR, BUCKLES THE SEAT BELT BEFORE THE CAR IS STARTED THEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS LESS OFTEN, AS IF THE CAR ONLY CHECKS IF THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED ON STARTUP.

  5. Air bags, Oct 12, 2015

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS DISABLED WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE FRONT SEAT.

  6. Air bags, Sep 21, 2015

MY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON WHEN AN ADULT IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. SOMETIMES IT COMES ON WHEN NO ONE IS SEATED. SOON AFTER THIS FIRST HAPPENED, I RECEIVED A RECALL, AND ON MAY 9, 2014, TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER. IT WAS "REPROGRAMED" AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK ON JUNE 6, 2014, AND THE REPORT SAYS "GENERAL MAINTENANCE". THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I TOOK IT AGAIN ON NOV 14, 2014, AND THE "STRAIN GAUGE" WAS RESET . I WAS TOLD TO RETURN IF PROBLEM PERSISTED, WHICH IT DID (AND CONTINUES TO DO). VERY FRUSTRATED, I RETURNED JUNE 25, 2015. THE PROBLEM "CANNOT BE VERIFIED", SO NOTHING WAS DONE. I RETURNED AGAIN SEPT 8, 2015 AND WAS REALLY TRULY UPSET THAT THIS SERIOUS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM IS STILL UNABLE TO BE ELIMINATED. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A "DESIGN" PROBLEM AND CANNOT BE FIXED BY MECHANICS. I WAS TOLD ENGINEERS HAVE BEEN CALLED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT. I FIND IT HARD TO IMAGINE THAT NISSAN WANTS TO DUST THIS OFF. IT CANNOT BE FIXED? I IMAGINE THE NEXT TIME I GO IN THEY WILL POKE OUT THE LIGHT BULB, OR PERHAPS PUT BLACK TAPE OVER THE LIGHT SO IT WON'T "DISTURB" ME. SHOULD I JUST "NOT WORRY"? WHAT IS THE REMEDY, AND HOW MUCH LONGER DO I HAVE TO DRIVE THE CARE WITH THE WORRY THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT OPERATE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH? I FIND THIS INTOLERABLE.

  7. Air bags, Seat belts, Sep 17, 2015

MY CAR WAS A PART OF THE ALTIMA AIRBAG RECALL IN 2014. THE ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THE DEALER. THE ALTIMA HAS ALWAYS HAD THE ISSUE OF THE PASSENGER SEAT NOT REGISTERING IT'S OCCUPANT ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE FIXED THIS WAS TO SHUT MY CAR OFF AND RECALIBRATE THE SYSTEM. TODAY, NOTHING WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT YET THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT WERE LIT. THIS MEANS THAT THE ALTIMA BELIEVED SOMEONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE FOR A PASSENGER TO SIT IN THE ALTIMA.

  8. Electrical system, Air bags, Seats, Sep 7, 2015

THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVE IN THE 2014 RECALL FOR THE SAFETY DEFECT DUE TO A COMPUTER PROGRAM COULD MISJUDGE THE WEIGHT OF THE PERSON IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND CONCLUDE THAT A CHILD INSTEAD OF AN ADULT WAS SITTING THERE. 9. Air bags, Aug 3, 2015

2013 NISSAN ALTIMA SV; PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES, REPRESENTING THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF, WHEN A PASSENGER WEIGHING 118 LBS IS PRESENT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME REPORTING ISSUE TO NISSAN. TO REPEAT ISSUE, PARK&STOP CAR ON HILL WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR ON THE DOWNHILL SIDE OF SLOPE. HAVE PASSENGER SEATED AND BUCKLED INTO SEAT PRIOR TO STARTING CAR. LIGHT WILL STAY ILLUMINATED UNTIL CAR IS TURNED OFF, PASSENGER EXITS CAR, CAR IS TURNED ON AND LIGHT GOES OFF. IN ADDITION, THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. INCIDENTS CAPTURED VIA VIDEO AND AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING. INCIDENT REPORTED TO NISSAN AFTER TAKING TO DEALER 4 TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION. SUBSEQUENTLY NISSAN DENIED REQUESTS. VEHICLE GOING FOR 5TH TIME TO DEALERSHIP ON 8/7/15. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/CHANNEL/UC7TI0VVAA6P1-LBURWFH4TQ

  10. Air bags, Jul 6, 2015

THE RED AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF ON MY VEHICLE - THE EXACT SYMPTOM LISTED IN RECALL CAMPAIGN ID PC214. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS A 2013 AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO MY CAR BECAUSE THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. MY CAR IS THE SAME YEAR, WITH THE SAME PROBLEM INDICATED IN THE RECALL AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO NISSAN AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK.

  11. Air bags, Seats, Jun 30, 2015

I HAVE A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG OCCUPANT SENSOR COMES ON SHOWING THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE ADULT IS 200 LBS. THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR 15-20 MINUTES WHILE DRIVING. MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR THE OCCUPANT SENSOR CLASSIFACATION RESET. IT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NUMOROUS TIMES TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS STILL NOT A FIX FROM NISSAN. I WANT THIS FIXED. PLEASE HELP.

  12. Power train, Air bags, Service brakes, May 22, 2015

FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE SINCE THE AIR BAG LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER HAS NEVER WORKED. MORE THAN 6 TIMES THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIX TO NO AVAIL. I WONT LET PASSENGERS SIT IN THE FRONT FOR THEIR SAFETY. I ALWAYS HAVE THEM SIT IN THE BACK. IT LOOKS LIKE I AM THEIR EMPLOYEE/DRIVER. ALSO A HUGE PROBLEM IS THE CVT TRANSMISSION. IT SHUDDERS, GRUMBLES AND THE WHOLE CAR VIBRATES INTERMITTENTLY. FIRST THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND REPLACED IT, THAT DIDNT FIX IT SO THEY SAID IT WAS A BOLT, THAT WASNT IT, FINALLY THEY JUST GAVE UP AND SAID THEY DONT KNOW AND "THEY CANT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM" ITS ALL A SCAM. THIS CAR IS DEFECTIVE.

  13. Air bags, May 20, 2015

SEVERAL TIMES THE PASSENGER SEAT / OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM HAS FAILED TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY AN ADULT OCCUPANT AND HAS DISABLED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. DEALER HAS SERVICED TWICE BUT ISSUE PERSIST. THE ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO PULL OVER, POWER CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTART CAR. ON RESTART THE CAR RECOGNIZED THE OCCUPANT AND ENABLED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG.THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING APRIL 2015. NOW I FEEL UNSAFE SPECIALLY WITH MY WIFE PREGNANT SEATING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.

  14. Electrical system, Air bags, Seats, May 14, 2015

SEVERAL TIMES THE PASSENGER SEAT / OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM HAS FAILED TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY AN ADULT OCCUPANT AND HAS DISABLED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THIS OCCURS WITH MALES AND FEMALES RANGING FROM 40TH TO 70TH PERCENTILE IN ALL GENDERS. I HAVE RECORDED VIDEOS OF THESE INCIDENTS FOR RECORD OF THEIR OCCURRENCE. THE ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO PULL OVER, POWER CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTART CAR. ON RESTART THE CAR RECOGNIZED THE OCCUPANT AND ENABLED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE DATE OF INCIDENT IS OF THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING MAY 2015 WITH APPROXIMATELY 29,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWS AIRBAG OFF WITH ADULTS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. MULTIPLE OCCURANCES, HAD REPROGRAMMING DONE, PROBLEM PERSISTS.

  16. Air bags, May 6, 2015

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON WHEN A PASSENGER IS PRESENT, MEANING IF IN AN ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR IN 5 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND IS NOT ABLE TO REPAIR IT SINCE NOW THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GIVE A CODE TO FIX IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INVOLVED AND THEY SAID THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRED, HOW DO I FEEL SAFE HAVING A PASSENGER IN THAT SEAT WITH OUT CERTAINTY THAT AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. WHEN WE MET WITH [XXX], FROM NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, THE ENGINEER, HE STATED THAT THIS AIRBAG IS UNDER RATED AND CAUSES MORE HARM THAN GOOD. WHY WOULD AN ENGINEER FROM THE FACTORY SAY SOMETHING THIS RIDICULOUS, THIS IS WHY WE BOUGHT THE CAR..FOR THE SAFETY RATINGS AND ALL THE AIRBAGS. HE STATED THEY ONLY CAUSE BLACK EYES AND BROKEN NOSES, TO WHICH I SAID "ITS BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE..,DEATH. I AM NOT FEELING SAFE IN THIS CAR AND HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP US GET IT RECTIFIED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

  17. Air bags, Apr 24, 2015

LIKE MANY MANY OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED, MY AIRBAG SENSOR IS STILL NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS ASSURED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY EVEN THOUGH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT SHOW THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. I'M NERVOUS EVERY TIME I SEE THE LIGHT ON (MEANING THE BAG IS OFF) WHEN MY WIFE IS IN THE CAR WITH ME. IF WE GET INTO AN ACCIDENT ITS A CRAP SHOOT WHETHER THE AIRBAG WILL REALLY WORK OR NOT. *TR

  18. Air bags, Apr 15, 2015

I'VE HAD THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT THAT IS IN THE CENTER OF DASH COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN WITH AN ADULT SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP (8/9/14), THEY SAID THIS IS NEW ISSUE AND THAT THEY WOULD DO SOME SORT OF SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN (11/19/14) AND THEY SAID THE UPDATE MIGHT NOT HAVE TAKEN PROPERLY, SO THEY DID THE UPDATE AGAIN. WELL IT TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR IN (3/16/15) AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL DO A COMPLETE REPROGRAM JUST IN CASE THERE WAS A LINGERING ISSUE FROM LAST TIME. WELL, THAT DID NOT WORK. THE ISSUE IS STILL HAPPENING AND I TOOK THE CAR IN YESTERDAY (4/14/15) AND THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME TODAY AND SAID THAT THEY PERFORMED A FUNCTION TEST AND COULDN'T FIND ANY ERROR CODES, SO THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEY SAID THAT IF IT HAPPENS TO BRING IT IN ASAP. WITH THIS ISSUE BEING SO INTERMITTENT, I HAVE RESORTED TO TAKING PHOTOS OF PEOPLE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. I FEEL THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED MORE SERIOUSLY. *TR

THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON WITH AN ADULT IN THE SEAT. NISSAN HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT NUMEROUS TIME WITHOUT SUCCESS. I QUESTION WHETHER THE BAG WILL GO OFF IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL DEALER THAT I SHOULD CALL CORPORATE AND RECORDED THE COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. *TR

  24. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON (INDICATING NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT) WHEN AN ADULT WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND ALSO HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. DEALER TOLD ME THAT A FIX WAS UNKNOWN AT THE TIME AND THAT I SHOULD WAIT FOR A RECALL NOTICE. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE MANY MONTHS LATER. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND SOMETHING WAS ADJUSTED/FIXED PER THE DEALER BUT PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. I WAS TOLD THAT I PROBABLY WAS NOT SITTING IN THE SEAT CORRECTLY OR I WAS UNDER WEIGHT. NEITHER ARE TRUE. DEALER RETESTED AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE INDICATOR LIGHT. I DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD DEPLOY IF I HAD AN ACCIDENT. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. I HEARD RECENTLY ON TV THAT OTHER PEOPLE LIKE ME WERE STILL COMPLAINING. I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY BE MORE WIDESPREAD SINCE I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING IT. HOPE I NEVER HAVE AN ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR! *TR

  25. Air bags, Mar 24, 2015

THE LIGHT THAT INDICATES MY PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IS COMING ON WHEN A NORMAL SIZED ADULT IS IN THE FRONT SEAT. APPARENTLY, THIS IS TIED TO A SENSOR WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO DISABLE THE AIR BAG IF SOMEONE HAS A SMALL CHILD (BETWEEN 30 LBS AND 80 LBS) IN THE FRONT SEAT DUE TO THE INCREASED RISK OF INJURY WITH AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, IT HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10% OF THE TIME I HAD AN ADULT IN THE FRONT SEAT. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE. ONCE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS INSPECTED WITH NO ISSUES FOUND. AND THE SECOND TIME, THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A RE-PROGRAMMING OF THE COMPUTER ACCORDING TO A TSB FROM NISSAN THAT THEY HAD ON FILE. SINCE THE RE-PROGRAMMING WAS DONE, THE FREQUENCY HAS INCREASED TO ROUGHLY 30% OF THE TIME AN ADULT IS IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE SIZE OF THE PASSENGER IS IRRELEVANT. IT HAPPENS EQUALLY OFTEN WHEN MY 135 LB WIFE IS IN THE FRONT SEAT AS IT DOES WHEN MY DAD OR FATHER-IN-LAW (BOTH ROUGHLY 180 LBS - 200 LBS) ARE IN THE FRONT SEAT. I LOVE THE CAR, BUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE PREVIOUS RECALL/TSB HAS NOT RESOLVED OR EVEN IMPROVED THE ISSUE. IT ACTUALLY MADE IT WORSE. *TR
