Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 7, 2026, crash
While driving on I70 in downtown Indianapolis, I was alerted by a semi driver that something was wrong with my vehicle, or he was attempting to get my attention for something. Once he got my attention, I could see a trail of liquid pouring out from behind me. Thankfully, I was able to get over and get off the highway. I tried to get somewhere safe, but eventually the truck sputtered out. We have now learned that the fuel tank straps failed, and since then we now knoww Chrysler is aware that they are faulty, and that this is something Chrysler is aware of and they have an extension warranty X75 for the 2017. However, they do not have a recall. And I have been attempting to handle things with them directly. They have agreed to take care of the faulty fuel tank straps, but they are not responsible for any consequential damage. I could have been killed that day, if traffic was more severe, or someone flicked a cigarette and it hit the fuel. I could have burnt alive in the truck. Chrysler keeps sending me up the chain, and i'm just told they only owe for the fuel straps. So far I have missed work, had to pay out of pocket for a rental and there is at minimum of $2000 in repair and $200 in out of pocket tows.
Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 17, 2026
The front fuel tank strap mount rusted out causing the fuel tank to drop and dangle by only the rear strap. The resulting pressure from the tank pushed the, now detached, front strap onto the rear drive shaft and gouging it to un-safe condition. Thankfully it did not wear completely through the drive shaft as seen in other reports. This is a know issue with these trucks. There is a extended warranty campaign but this needs to be a full on recall. And replacing items damaged from this failure ie drive shaft.

Vehicle reaches 50percent fuel level and drops to zero causing the operator to potentially run out of fuel. And disables remote start functionality. Also potentially run out of fuel at anytime and not being able to move vehicle to a safe location. Even the side of the road. Out of gas. Can not move at all. Dealership has replaced twice already the fuel level sensor. Multiple vehicles I’ve seen with this problem. Could leave someone in a dangerous situation.

While walking to my car I notice my fuel tank hanging down and upon further inspection the front fuel tank strap broke, I took it to a mechanic who confirmed that the strap broke from the frame which has rusted. This is a MAJOR safety issue which can cause serious injury or death. I know this is a known issue for the 2009-2012 models but it looks like this is an ongoing issue.
Fuel/propulsion system, Jan 8, 2026
In November 2025, while traveling at highway speeds, the High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP)—the very component installed to satisfy the Z46 recall—suffered a catastrophic failure. This resulted in an immediate loss of fuel pressure, smoke, and a total engine stall. The failure caused a loss of power steering and braking assistance, creating a severe safety hazard on an active interstate. The vehicle has been at the RAM dealership for over one month waiting on parts for repair.
Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 30, 2025
I am reporting a critical safety failure involving my 2017 Ram 1500 with approximately 89,000 miles. The component that failed was the fuel‑tank support system, specifically the frame section that holds the fuel‑tank brackets and strap. The frame in that area had completely rusted through, causing the fuel tank to drop and hang dangerously close to the ground. The failed components are still on the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. This failure created a severe safety hazard. A partially detached fuel tank poses an immediate risk of fuel leakage, fire, or complete separation of the tank while driving, endangering both myself and other motorists. The issue has been confirmed by an independent, certified mechanic. They advised that the corrosion was so extensive that the frame would need to be disassembled to attempt any repair, which they were unable to perform. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or any other official entity beyond the independent mechanic. There were no warning lamps, messages, unusual noises, or other symptoms prior to the failure. The problem became apparent only when I visually noticed the fuel tank hanging lower than normal. Given the seriousness of this defect and the potential for catastrophic failure, I am requesting immediate review and guidance on next steps.

Unknown. We have owned this vehicle for almost 3 years now and we have had to replace 2 sensors, the cruise control will intermittently no disengage when buttons are pushed or brake pushed, replaced the full pump, sometimes it will lose all power going down the road, HD to replace the fuse box because it was getting and started to melt, it will try to start and will just keep cranking until you slam on the gas, and the rear window leaks every time it rains. We have paid for everything out of pocket and we are still having all these problems and the mechanics can not figure out the problem, but are guessing it the fuel pump or fuel injectors.
Fuel/propulsion system, May 12, 2025
The diesel EGR Cooling System prematurely failed on a vehicle with low mileage and repaired at owner's expense. This defect allows pre-heated, vaporized coolant into the EGR system while the engine is running. In certain circumstances, this mixture interacts with other hydrocarbons and air in the system, potentially resulting in combustion within the intake manifold, which may lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury to occupants and persons outside of the vehicle, as well as property damage. Other than noting black residue in the coolant reservoir, there is no warning or notification to the owner that this dangerous condition had occurred, and that their safety may be at risk if not monitored. Previous model years had this same defect and are covered by Safety Recall VB1 / NHTSA 19V-757 Diesel EGR Cooler.

Fuel sensor issues. 100's of complaints on Fuel Sensors and many reported to NHTSA. The gas gauge will not work and check engine light on, when checking code it is P0463,that is fuel sensor issue. It is dangerous not to know how much fuel is in tank. Again very common issue on Rams with 40K miles and less. Ram know about all these cases. It is a common problem that is ignored by Ram.
Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 4, 2024
There is an extended warranty on the defective gas tank strap bracket, “X75”. When this part broke it caused damage to my driveshaft and to my fuel tank. The dealer says only the strap bracket is covered. This should be a recall, not an extended warranty. Damaged fuel tanks are a safety concern, and all damage caused by the failed bracket should be covered.

I am writing this letter about a vehicle I purchased in November 2023. The vehicle purchased was a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Diesel from Rick Chevrolet in Virginia Beach VA. The truck has many defects. The first month I took it back for a leaking tire, broken windshield, oil leak and because it drove funny and I did not know what was wrong with it, but I knew something was wrong. They kept the truck for approximately a week or two. In April I hit a pothole in Norfolk off [XXX] and I didn’t know what had happened to the truck. I left it in Norfolk until the next morning because I could not get a tow truck to come out that night. I had my truck towed to Dodge, Ram and FIAT in Norfolk VA. They told me the Tie Rod, Axle, had broken. The Dealer then, told me that the truck would not align so they sent it to the Collision Center. The collision center told me that the truck had a bent frame and it did not happen due to the pothole. That the truck was a death trap and I need not to drive it that the dealer should not have sold me that truck. I went and talked to the Manager at Rick Chevrolet named Kerry and he said we could swap the truck, but I had to make a down payment of an excessive amount due to my credit. I did not know that this truck was a nightmare and I feel why should I have to pay for someone selling me a truck that can kill me and whoever is riding with me. I bought the truck because they are supposed to be safe. This is ridiculous and the dealership is not trying to help me out of this by putting me in a safe vehicle. I am paying for something that is going to cause me bodily harm or my life, and they want me to pay more to get into a safe vehicle. This truck should not have been sold and because it was, they need to take responsibility and swap me out of this death trap. Can you please look into this matter. The collision center gave me copies of what they did, and what they found wrong with the truck and a picture of frame being bent. I was driving my truck and out of no where started to lose speed, pulled over immediately and lost all power. I didn’t drive my truck anymore because I noticed a knocking noise when I was able to get it back on. I contacted mopar and was advised to take in my truck for open recalls because of the High pressure fuel pump seemed to be exactly what happened to my ram. I took in my truck for the recalls, was called three days later and told I needed to replace all 6 fuel injectors costing me $5000.00, recall states high pressure fuel pump has to be replaced along with any damaged fuel components. Dealer tells me high pressure fuel pump was not broken. I know it was failing because of what happened to my ram.

The RAM 1500 fuel tank has a vent tube that breaks off and cannot be repaired. The only solution, per the dealer, is to replace the fuel tank and Chrysler does not have any available with no date for restocking them. The issue is the Check Fuel Cap light comes on and when the tank is full, it leaks gasoline (badly). Upon researching the issue, I found many RAM owners have had the same problem which tells me that there is a design flaw in the fuel tank. A fuel tank should last for the life of the vehicle. Please investigate

A recall was received in June, 2022, regarding High Pressure Fuel Pump failing prematurely. “Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle to crash without prior warning.”No remedy was available. Today I received another recall notice for the same issue which said to schedule my free repair. I called my dealership at Winter Haven Dodge and was told they were only allowed to order 1 part per month and they had 15 vehicles ahead of me and he will schedule my repair on my turn. I feel that15 months is an unreasonable length of time to wait since I have been waiting for resolution of this matter since June, 2022.
