Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, and Highlander Hybrid, and 2014-2015 Rav4 vehicles. A component of the electric power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may result in failure of the electric power steering system.
An unexpected loss of power steering increases the risk of a crash.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the serial number of the EPS ECU or steering column assembly. If the number is within the affected range, the EPS ECU will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 7, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, I was coming out of the driveway at the Jack In The Box on the corner of El Camino & Nobili Avenue in Santa Clara. My foot was on the break as I was going to stop at the end of the driveway to check to see if there was any traffic coming down Nobili before I exited the Jack In The Box driveway. All of a sudden before I even hit the end of the driveway while I had my foot on the brake, the car started to speed up (unintentional acceleration)and I continued to press my foot down harder on the brake, but nothing could stop it. A lot of black smoke came up out of the steering wheel area where it attached to the dashboard & all of the air bags around the car deployed. Then my car completely turned itself around and the front of my car was now facing the driveway that I had just come out of. This torque of acceleration and braking is why my car spun around 180 degrees. The vehicle had sustained damage to the front end, the hood, front bumper cover, right front head lamp was cracked, and the Toyota emblem was missing. (See attached photos taken at the time of the accident) Since all of the air bags in the whole car had completely deployed, I found that the only way I could get out of the car was to slide myself under the air bag that surrounded the driver side door. As I got out of the car, the rib that is directly under my right breast began to hurt very badly and it was hard for me to take a breath with the pain from that rib. I also had a bad headache, too. Plus, the top of my left hand was all red and felt like something had scratched the whole back of my hand. It hurt to touch it. I was also light-headed.The car, I was told, looked like I had hit a wall. The whole left front side of the car was severely mangled - the hood, the fender, and the tire was flat. The shocking thing was that I had not had an encounter with any car, nor had they hit me, to account for this damage.The Police & Fire Dept.& EMT's were called.

I had no problems with my 2015 Toyota Camry SE that does not even have 90,000 miles on it, and then I started experiencing a shutter when driving between 25 and 50mph. It feels like you are driving over rumble sticks in the roadway, or an abnormal shaking. There is no warning light illuminated on my dashboard ex: engine light. If I take my foot of the accelerator pedal the shutter/shaking would stop or if I pushed on the accelerator to go faster, it will come out of the shutter/shaking also. While I was getting an oil change at the Toyota dealership, I spoke with the Toyota customer service representative about the closed recall (T-SB-0312-17) for this issue on 2012-2014 Toyota Camry's while doing research on this issue and I was told that Toyota has no plans on doing another recall because they have fixed the problem and I would have to have the car fixed myself which could cost upwards of $3,000.00 out of pocket. Why should a customer have to pay hundreds of dollars to have their car diagnosed for a known problem based on internet forums and other Toyota complaints. The engine light is not on, so a code may not even show up. I cannot afford to pay that, and Toyota should stand by their vehicles, stop giving customers the run around and do another recall as this is a big safety issue of faulty parts which can cause a major accident if the car loses power and stalls.

GOOD MORNING, I AM EMAILING TO ASK ABOUT A PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH MY 2015 CAMRY HYBRID SE. MY CAR STARTED A HAVING A VIBRATION/SHUDDER WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON THE STREET AND FREEWAY FROM SPEEDS OF 25MPH TO 50MPH. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND ON TURNS . I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION BUT AFTER I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS ISSUE I LEARNED THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS THEY DO. ITS SEEMS TO BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. I LOOKED UP THE HISTORY OF THIS TORQUE PROBLEM AND IT GOES BACK AS FAR AS 2011 FOR TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CAR CLOCK HAS BEEN RUNNING FAST (4-5 MINUTES AFTER SIX MONTHS) STARTING FROM THE DATE PURCHASED (MAY 2015). MORE CRITICALLY, THE CLOCK STARTED TO SUDDEN CHANGE THE TIME AFTER STARTING THE CAR ENGINE. THE CLOCK SUDDEN CHANGE ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED THREE TIMES RECENTLY (FIRST ONE IN SEPTEMBER 2017, SECOND ONE IN JANUARY 2018, AND THIRD ONE IN APRIL 2018). ALTHOUGH IT REFLECTS ON CLOCK CHANGING BUT IT IS NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM COULD BE EVEN MORE SERIOUS (LIKE ENGINE....). I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE REGARDING THE ISSUES IN JANUARY 2018 AND APRIL 2018. HOWEVER, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF ISSUES. AFTER DRIVING THE 2015 CAMRY LE FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR, I NOTICED A MOLDY SMELL COMING FROM THE A/C VENTS UPON START UP. I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS FILED IN 2015 IN CA FOR DEFECTIVE HVAC SYSTEM IN 2012 CAMRYS BECAUSE OF MOLD AND SMELLY ODORS COMING OUT OF A/C VENTS. IT APPEARS TOYOTA IS STILL MANUFACTURING CAMRYS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE HVAC PART. I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A PROCEDURE TO CLEAN THE MOLD OUT AND PURCHASED THE CHARCOAL AIR CABIN FILTERS. I AM KEEPING RECORDS OF EACH TIME I HAVE THE A/C SERVICE AND FILTERS REPLACED. I HAVE HAD ALLERGY TESTS PERFORMED AND I AM HIGHLY ALLERGIC TO MOLD AND MILDEW. I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE WITH A/C IN CARS EVER AND I'VE BEEN DRIVING 40 YEARS. REGARDING THE SEATS, THEY ARE EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE AFTER DRIVING FOR ANY EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I DRIVE 3 TO 4 HOURS A DAY FOR WORK MON-FRI AND I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE SPECIAL GEL CUSHIONS (COSTING $135) TO MAKE THE SEAT TOLERABLE. I HAVE HEARD COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CAMRY AND LEXUS OWNERS OF THE UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS, WHICH COULD LEAD TO HEALTH ISSUES. I PURCHASED THE 2015 CAMRY 9/28/15 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES.

STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MOVE STRAIGHT AHEAD AND CAR DIDN'T MOVE. STEPPED HARDER ON ACCELERATOR AND CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED AND SPED UP VERY FAST. 3RD INCIDENT: CAR IN MOTION AND TURNED ONTO DEAD END STREET. CAR STARTED TO LURCH FORWARD AT SPEED OF ABOUT 20 MPH WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN STREET - LASTED A FEW SECONDS. 4TH INCIDENT: CAR IN MOTION ON ROUTE 17WEST IN NY STATE (3 LANE HIGHWAY WITH VERY BUSY HOLIDAY TRAFFIC) - DRIVING STRAIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 65 - 70 MPH - IN LEFT HAND PASSING LANE. CAR STARTED TO LURCH VERY HARD AND THEN LOSE POWER - ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT TRYING TO MOVE OVER 2 LANES TO SHOULDER. CAR KEPT LURCHING FORWARD VERY HARD AND THEN SLOWING DOWN PRACTICALLY TO A STAND STILL - DID THIS FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES UNTIL WE COULD GET IT OFF EXIT AND INTO A GAS STATION. CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP - THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. CAR IS NOW SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND WE WILL NOT DRIVE IT ANY FURTHER! INNOCENT PEOPLE COULD GET KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS CAR. WE HAVE NOW REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO 3 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY CANNOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR.

V6 ENGINE STUMBLED UPON ACCELLERATION IN TRAFFIC. WAS GOING LESS THAN 30 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, CHANGED LANES TO GO FASTER BUT FELT LIKE ENGINE HAD BEEN TURNED OFF FOR 2 TO 3 SECONDS, THEN IT ACCELLERATED NORMALLY. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS IN 80'S, GAS TANK HALF FULL, NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED. ABOUT 2 MILES PREVIOUS TO THIS WE WERE SITTING IDLING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WITH A/C ON. NO FURTHER EPISODES TO DATE. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I HAD A SIMILAR EPISODE, BUT WASN'T SURE AS IT WASN'T SO NOTICIBLE. TOOK CAR TO DEALER BUT NO ERROR CODES PRESENT, WILL CHECK FARTHER THIS FRIDAY WHEN EXPERT TECH IS THERE. UNKNOWN WHICH COMPONENT CAUSED THIS.
