  1. Electrical system, Sep 22, 2026

I brought my 2018 Camry in because of check engine light and was told it was due to the vsv purge valve ($372) and the coolant bypass valve ($1100)- *note I later found out due to my own research that Toyota has an National Warranty Extensions on this part due to failure on 2018-2023 models! After agreeing to replace the costly bypass valve I was called and told the light was still on so they ran ANOTHER diagnostic test that now shows a "new" code that I need a new computer ($1400). The faulty part causes computer damage and I was advised online to speak to the service manager and ask for "consequential damage review" as well as have them cover the part since the warranty covers 10 years or 100k miles. Well of course I was denied because my car is over 100k (what 2018 wouldnt be) and told to reach out to Corporate who also said the same thing. What is interesting is this faulty part extension was just established December 2024 which would not help those of us who were already at the 100k mark when they found this error out. I just paid over $1000 today (not to mention all the times I brought it in before for diagnostic test) and my car runs EXACTLY THE SAME- BAD! AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON!!!!!! I will not give them another $1500 for a new computer. I am now looking for a specialized automotive electronics repair company to repair my computer for likely less than $200! Toyota's service department is a SCAM and I would not recommend buying their cars to anyone going further. My family has 3 Toyotas in our driveway now! I am very disappointed and need someone at Toyota to make this error better!

  4. Electrical system, Mar 9, 2026

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2018 Toyota Camry. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 90,328, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 294,568.

  5. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Dec 4, 2025

The vehicle illuminated the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and stored DTC P26CB71 – Electric Water Pump Speed Stuck. The dealer confirmed the electric coolant pump actuator is mechanically stuck and requires replacement at a quoted cost of $1,257.81. Toyota official TSB-0323-17 (published December 8, 2017) explicitly states that this exact repair for DTC P26CB71 is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date. Despite the vehicle being well within both time and mileage limits, the dealer and EPA both refuse to honor Toyota’s own published 8-year Federal Emissions Warranty, violating 40 CFR §85.2107(a) which mandates that the manufacturer “shall repair or replace” any covered failed emission-related part at no cost to the owner. The failed electric water pump is an emission-related component because its malfunction triggers an OBD-II emissions DTC and can cause elevated emissions due to improper engine temperature control. The part remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. No warning symptoms appeared prior to the MIL illumination.

  6. Steering, Power train, Electrical system, Nov 23, 2025, crash, fire

My 2018 Toyota Camry (VIN [XXX] ) crashed and burned completely on Nov 16, 2025. while driving on the Freeway the vehicle stopped suddenly without any notice on dashboard all electrical turned off steering wheel locked and lost control hit left fwy barrier which caused car to spun couple times and when it came to a complete stop was not able to turn car or even turn emergency lights on and couple seconds later was rear ended by another vehicle which caused vehicle to catch on fire and vehicle was fully in flames after reviewing history of vehicle I never received notification of Toyota Recall 18V-200, which addresses defective pistons that can cause engine stalling, rough running, loss of power, or sudden failure. Based on VIN and production date, my car likely falls within the recall. Police and fire reports are available. 8. Electrical system, Air bags, Latches/locks/linkages, Oct 2, 2025

The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that there would be a sudden loss of power steering functionality and just as sudden, the power steering function would return. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and the Air Bag Malfunction warning lights were illuminated. The starter had suddenly failed due to a loss of battery power. The contact purchased a jump box to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the key fob failed to unlock the doors, causing the contact to have to manually open the doors with the keys. The windows could not be controlled from the control panel near the driver's seat. Each window could only be controlled by the window switch on the door where the window was located. The TPMS warning light as illuminated, despite the tire pressure being at the correct levels. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, at which time the failures were stated, but the dealer only diagnosed that the battery charge was low. The dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who replaced the battery. After having the repair completed, the SRS warning light remained illuminated, with the Service Vehicle warning light. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and confirmed that the VIN was not covered under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

When I am driving on a 4 lane hwy and I am in the left lane and a car in the right lane stops on the side of me my car stops also by itself .This is very dangerous . Someone can rear end me and cause a major accident. This is putting me and possibly someone else’s life in danger.I took it to Team Toyota in Baton Rouge. One technician drove it and it did it for him. They performed software updates. Test drove it several times and said it did not do it for them. Paid over $800. On my way home it did it again, complete stop on its own when a car next to me stopped. Took the car back to Team Toyota the next morning. They did test drive and it did it several times with them. Team Toyota still has my car waiting on a regional field tech to come look at my car. I called Toyota Brand Engagement 800-331-4331 to report this and have a case number [XXX] and spoke with Jasmin there. 10. Electrical system, May 15, 2025

My warning panel told me to take the car to dealer for reprogram, and dealer said my wiring harness for hybrid electric system had been chewed by rodents and the harness and probably batteries should be replaced NOW or the car might catch fire. I replaced the harness and the batteries. When I asked to see the parts, they said they had boxed and shipped. Later, a friend alerted me to a problem with Soy-based coatings on wires that rodents found tasty. My friend said his KIA had same problem and his insurance covered the expense . Now, I’m $5000 poorer, and Toyota hasn’t compensated me for repairs.

  11. Electrical system, Apr 21, 2025

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while attempting to resell the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 72,000 and at the time of reselling the vehicle, it was discovered that the mileage was 230,000.

  12. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Apr 19, 2025

Intermittently, when leaving from a stop the car will have just enough power to pull forward about a car length before losing all drive power. The engine revs, but behaves as if it were in neutral. This happened a couple times when making a left turn from a stop sign leaving the car in cross traffic, powerless, with cars coming from the drivers side for a second or two before it had power again. It seems to happen in hot weather. It is intermittent. The dealership could not reproduce the problem. There were no warning lamps. I could make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. The first appearance was last summer. It did not do it over the winter. It happened again yesterday. When it happens it tends to happen for a few minutes before driving normally again. It may happen at start up or after the car has been driven for some time.

  13. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Lane departure, Apr 17, 2025

While operating my vehicle, the multi information display between the tachometer and RPM gauges flashed bold red letters BRAKE (even though nothing was in front of us at all) then the screen went 100% black. When that happens, the majority of the safety features are obsolete because you cannot see or read what caused the beep. Also, the Odometer could not be seen as well as feul eveonomy, if cruise control was engaged, what gear your engine is in if Sports mode is activated (in which occurs if accidently hitting the gear switches on your steering wheel just turning it), unable to see maintenance messages, cannot control the sensor settings...nothing. When I finally had enough money to even get the car diagnosed (roughly $187), the Corwin Toyota dealership asked me for the mileage, and I had to tell them to tell me. They did confirm the instrument panel/cluster to be defective, however, I and my extended warranty company had to pay the bill. 53,252 miles when they serviced it. When I paid my portion, I asked Lori how long will this one last and she told me, "They are suppose to last the duration of the car's life." I replied, "Um, but...". On April 17th I called Toyota's Customer Engagement line and spoke with them about the defective part and repair. Dorian told me that with the part replaced carries a 1 year warranty. If Toyota designed essentially all the safety features, eco features, cruise control, gears to only be seen or controlled on that multi-informational display within the instrument panel/cluster, they should be required to fix it at no cost to customers for the lifetime of the car. I took video of it before I dropped it off to be serviced., but even Corwin Toyota in Fargo, ND, has video footage of the mechanic's assessment.

  14. Electrical system, Engine, Forward collision avoidance, Apr 14, 2025

Only when it rains the forward collision warning light comes on. The last time it came on the engine light also came on with code P01280. Diagnostic at Toyota said the Thermostat needs to be replaced. I decided to look into this as the thermostat should not be bad at 54500 miles. Weeks later and the neither light has come on again.

Panoramic sunroof issues. Sunroof is stuck in the open position. Motor clicks continuously but does not close. The cost to repair is outrageous.

Upon leaving my home the “check engine” light turned on suddenly after only less than 2 minutes of driving . The “ICS malfunction” light also turned on. The car pulled and stalled when pushing the gas and velocity stalled. Engine light turned said something similar to “engine overheating park in a safe place” . Not sure exact words. I was able drive less then one mile to get the car to Toyota Penske of Downey. I had the diagnostic done and the service provider stated the car needed an electrician water pump replacement. My car has very little mileage and was not running for long for it to over heat.

Subject: Concerns Regarding TSB T-SB-0017-23 for Toyota Camry HV Vehicles Dear NHTSA, I am deeply concerned about the recently released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) T-SB-0017-23 by Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. This TSB addresses a potential issue with the active grille air shutter actuator in specific 2018-2020 Camry HV vehicles equipped with the A25A-FXS engine. Releasing the TSB in April 2023, after the warranty periods for many affected vehicles have expired, is unfair to owners. A 2018 Camry HV's warranty period of 36 months/36,000 miles ended in 2021. This situation raises significant concerns as it burdens owners with the financial responsibility of repairs for an issue that was not their fault, potentially compromising safety if repairs are not promptly carried out. Toyota's inadequate efforts to ensure all affected owners have access to necessary repairs are disheartening. I urgently appeal for a thorough investigation and decisive action to ensure that regardless of warranty status, all owners of affected Camry HV vehicles can obtain essential repairs. I would like to bring attention to a similar TSB, T-SB-0319-17, issued by Toyota in November 2017 for Prius Prime 2017 and 2016-2017 models. This TSB addressed a comparable issue with the active grille air shutter actuator. Toyota extended the warranty for affected vehicles in California by 180 months or 150,000 miles, aligning with the manufacturing year and ensuring all vehicles were covered. The repair was covered under the California Emission Warranty for specific states. The discrepancy in approach between the two TSBs raises concerns about the fairness and consistency of Toyota's actions. It is crucial for Toyota to extend similar warranty coverage for affected Camry HV vehicles, ensuring all owners have access to necessary repairs without financial hardship. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I urge prompt action in addressing these concerns.
