Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner vehicles equipped with accessory hood scoops installed by SET or SET dealers. The adhesive attaching the hood scoop may weaken, allowing the hood scoop to detach from the vehicle.

If the hood scoop detaches, it may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

SET will notify owners, and dealers will mechanically fasten the scoop to the hood, free of charge. The recall began on September 1, 2017. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-954-429-2000. SET's number for this recall is SET17B.

  2. TiresFeb 23, 2015

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Tacoma pickup trucks manufactured August 7, 2014, to December 22, 2014. The affected vehicles may have had their tires and wheels changed to TRD PRO accessory tires and wheels, causing the inflation information on the tire placard to be incorrect which may result in the tire being improperly inflated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."

Improperly inflated tires may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will send a revised tire placard with correct tire size and inflation information to owners, free of charge. The recall began March 13, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

  1. Service brakes, Sep 9, 2023

The emergency brakes locked up during use and the truck has to be rocked back and forth for the emergency brakes to get unstuck. Did some searching and lots of other Tacoma owners has experienced the same issue

  2. Vehicle speed control, Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Jan 17, 2022, crash

I came to a complete stop right after a left turn into strip shopping parking lot. My automatic transmission in drive with my left foot on the brake. My truck suddenly took off on its own hitting another vehicle at high speed a few inches away to my right. From police report later it appeared 5 other vehicles were hit. Mine was towed to a city lot and retrieved by my insurance company and totalled.I had fractured mid left clavicle and was put in ambulance to ER. No other injuries I’m aware of to any persons. It occurred a few days prior but in a parking lot with nothing in front of me to crash into so I had time to think to step on brake and move auto transmission to park or neutral. No other times did it occur to me. My husband also drove truck and coincidentally had 3 backup accidents in a row backing out of a parking space. First time that type of accident had happened to him.I told everyone what happened but I couldn’t see witnesses or exchange information because my pain was too severe. According to what I heard others saying or what was written I wasn’t believed. They tricked me once I got to ER and locked me on psych ward like I was suicidal but I never told anyone I was. I think they wanted to keep me in hospital longer for the money because they did nothing but an X-ray and I went the entire night with no pain medicine right after radiologist told me that clavicle fracture is the most painful kind of fracture.

  4. Steering, Service brakes, Oct 3, 2019

WHEN DRIVING OVER 50 MPH ON HIGHWAY AND BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. DEALER SAID IT WAS THE TIRES. HE REPLACED THEM AND THE SHAKING STOPPED FOR ALMOST A YEAR. TIRES WERE REPLACED AGAIN AND SHAKING STOPPED FOR ALMOST A YEAR THEN RESUMED. NO SHAKING OCCURS AT SPEEDS UNDER 40 MPH WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. MOST OF MY DRIVING OCCURS BELOW 40 MOH.

  9. Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 10, 2016, crash

MY STEPSON WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, HE STOPPED, THEN THE TOYOTA TACOMA LUNGED FORWARD CRASHING INTO OUR GARAGE. I HAD NOTICED SINCE LEASING THE TRUCK IN JULY OF 2015, THAT ONCE IN A WHILE I WOULD COME TO A STOP AND IT FELT LIKE I JUST GOT REAR ENDED BUT NOBODY WAS BEHIND ME.

  10. Service brakes, Dec 10, 2015, crash

SITTING AT A DEAD COLD STOP. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES - BRAKES JUST RELEASED WITH ME STANDING ON THE PEDAL - ALLOWING ME TO ROLL INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MY VEHICLE IMPACTED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT APPROXIMATELY 5MPH. I WAS LITERALLY SCREAMING AND STANDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL - ZERO EFFECT. I FELT NO LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE OR MECHANICAL FEEDBACK THROUGH THE PEDAL AT ANYTIME. IT'S AS IF THE CALIPERS ALL JUST RELEASED WITH ME ON THE PEDAL THE WHOLE TIME.

  11. Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Jul 24, 2015, crash

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY SCRAPED THE CONCRETE DRIVEWAY WALL. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED BOTH THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND MASTER CYLINDER. THE BUMPER WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.

  12. Electronic stability control (ESC), Service brakes, Feb 26, 2015

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE ABS SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE OVERLY SENSITIVE, CAUSING EXTREMELY LOW BRAKING POWER. THIS IS BEYOND THE NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ABS SYSTEMS IN OTHER CARS. THE SYSTEM VIRTUALLY ELIMINATES ANY ABILITY TO SLOW OR STOP THE VEHICLE. EVEN WHEN A SINGLE WHEEL HAS LOST TRACTION, ALL WHEELS WILL BE PULSED TO THE POINT OF NO BRAKING POWER. MANY OTHERS WITH SEVERAL MODEL YEARS OF TRUCKS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. SOME HAVE DISABLED THE SYSTEM AND EXPERIENCED BETTER BRAKING. EVEN THOUGH STEERING CONTROL MAY BE IMPROVED, IN THIS TRUCK, STOPPING POWER HAS BEEN VIRTUALLY ELIMINATED.
