Recalls and investigations

  1. Suspension, rear, shock absorberAug 6, 2026

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 Tacoma Hybrid and 2024-2025 Tacoma vehicles. The metal flange on the front and rear shock absorbers may corrode and fail, resulting in detachment of the external oil reservoir.

An oil reservoir that detaches can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the front and rear shock absorber assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 21, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB14 and 26TA14.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Toyota Tundra, Tacoma Hybrid, Tacoma, RAV4 Hybrid, Land Cruiser Hybrid, Lexus GX550, 2024-2026 Tundra Hybrid, 2025 Sequoia Hybrid, Crown Signia, Grand Highlander, Lexus TX500 Hybrid, Lexus NX350 Hybrid, 2025-2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid, and Lexus TX350 vehicles. The load carrying capacity modification label may display inaccurate added weight values. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

A vehicle with an incorrect maximum capacity weight value may be overloaded, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the load carrying capacity modification label, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 26, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26LB04, 26LA04, 26TB07, and 26TA07.

  3. Power train, driveline, driveshaftOct 1, 2025

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2025 Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid vehicles. The front driveshaft constant-velocity (CV) joint may deform and break.

A broken driveshaft can impair steering. Vehicles with full-time 4WD may experience a vehicle rollaway while parked without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace both front driveshaft assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed August 11, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB11 and 25TA11.

  4. Electrical system, instrument cluster/panelSep 11, 2025

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Toyota Venza, 2023-2025 RAV4 Prime, RAV4, Highlander, GR Corolla, Crown, 2024-2025 Lexus TX, LS, Toyota Tacoma, Grand Highlander, and 2025 Lexus RX, Toyota Crown Signia, Camry, RAV 4 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and 4 Runner vehicles. Due to an error in the instrument panel software at vehicle startup, the instrument panel may fail to display vehicle speed, brake system, and tire pressure warning lights.

An instrument panel display that does not show critical information can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will update the instrument panel software over-the-air (OTA) for non-PHEV vehicles, free of charge. For PHEV vehicles, dealers will inspect the instrument panel assembly, and either replace it, or update the software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed December 5, 2025. Additional letters will be sent, anticipated in May 2026. This is a phased recall. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB08 and 25TA08. Lexus' numbers for this recall are 25LB05 and 25LA05.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Tacoma 4-wheel drive vehicles. The rear brake hoses can be damaged if mud and dirt builds up inside the rear wheels. This can result in a brake fluid leak.

A brake fluid leak can reduce braking ability and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace both rear brake hoses, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed August 1, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB04 and 25TA04.

  1. Power train, Sep 19, 2026

2025 Toyota Tacoma SR5, 8-speed automatic transmission. Harsh, hard shifts — primarily 1st-to-2nd and 2nd-to-3rd — on cold starts. The transmission slams into gear with a noticeable jolt/lurch of the vehicle. Occurs when the powertrain is cold; diminishes as it warms up. No warning lights and no diagnostic trouble codes stored. Reported to Kenny Kent Toyota (Evansville, IN) twice. First visit: dealer could not replicate. Second visit (09-17-2026): vehicle left overnight for cold-start diagnosis; dealer acknowledged the hard shifting but stated it is "operating as designed" because another Tacoma on the lot behaves the same way, and declined warranty repair absent a manufacturer bulletin. The unexpected lurch on engagement is a safety concern, particularly in parking lots and stop-and-go traffic. This matches Technical Service Bulletin TSB-0094-24 addressing shift quality on this transmission family and numerous identical owner reports.

  4. Power train, May 6, 2026

In October of 2025 I was notified of a safety based recall for my 2025 Tacoma related to the front axle shafts possibly breaking which could cause loss of steering control should an incident occur. The recall is listed as 25TA11, (Interim notice 25TB11) and is attached to NHTSA ID 25V656. As of May 6th, Toyota lists this situation as still preparing the remedy. If the situation is truly a safety concern, I believe the length of time Toyota is taking to provide the remedy is unacceptable. I would like to politely suggest that Toyota have pressure put on them to provide the proper remedy in an actual timely manner for something that can cause loss of control or a rolling vehicle in the 'Limited' trim models.

Toyota issued this recall about six months ago, and they have been dragging their feet for something that should be rather simple. They have not handled this recall in a timely manner we were originally told it was gonna be corrected in November that obviously didn’t happen and now we were told first quarter of twenty six and obviously that hasn’t happened

  12. Steering, Power train, Feb 21, 2026

MY 2025 TACOMA is part of a recall by Toyota, I was notified of the potential issue on early November 2025 and told Toyota was working on a remedy. On December 3rd, 2025 while using 4-wheel drive during a snow storm the drive shaft (recall issue) broke. On December 4th, 2025, the local Toyota dealer checked my Tacoma and found it unsafe to drive - they kept my Tacoma and provided a loaner vehicle. Toyota reported at this time the remedy would be available by the end of 4th quarter (December). As of today, February 21, 2026 -- there is still no remedy for the issue, my Tacoma is still sitting at the dealer, and I do not have my truck. Toyota reports a remedy will be available during the 1st quarter of the year but nothing yet. I called brand engagement recently and asked them to extend my warranty, Toyota care, and other free trials that were included with my purchase. However, Toyota refuses to do anything further - as they said a loaner car is enough - to make the issue more acceptable even though my new vehicle is losing this coverage.

Driving up the 15 freeway from Diamond bar CA to Victorville CA the car gave me a warning that the transmission is overheating and to pull over to cool it down keep in mind I was on a paved freeway with no trailer and nothing in the bed of the truck so no unusual weight so with the car being brand new (only 1500 miles) I played it safe and pulled to the side of the freeway for about 15 minutes to allow for cooling then the sign went away and it was driving normal. A few days later I took the car into the shop for transmission, hard shift issue and I had them look at the overheating as well and they found an overheating was caused from “harsh acceleration” i’ve had many cars and no car has ever had a transmission overheating light come on unless if I was on the track or off roading I went up to Victorville again the following weekend and the overheating light came on again but the dealership is saying it’s normal but going up a paid freeway and having to stop on the side of the road to let the transmission cool down is not safe

The vehicle was being operated in 4-wheel-drive, mode 4H, and when turning to the left at low speed, there was a grinding noise from the front of the vehicle and it would not proceed. The vehicle had to be put back in 2-wheel-drive, mode 2H, put in reverse, backed up a short distance, and then put back in drive, and then it was able to proceed. This is likely the CV joint issue reported in other 2024 and 2025 Toyota Tacomas. The dealer has been notified, and the vehicle will be taken in for service.

  18. Power train, Sep 22, 2025

•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I purchased a 2025 Toyota Tacoma from Carver Toyota of Columbus, IN, 47280 brand new with only 15 miles. I also purchased the 100,000-mile bumper to bumper warranty that covers third party parts. After driving the vehicle for 5,000 miles, I noticed problems with Transmission or the Powertrain System whenever I would shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, down shift, shift to reverse, and would slip acceleration whenever the vehicle is sitting idle. •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This has impacted my safety and the safety of others by not properly shifting into gear. When accelerating it engages harshly from 2nd to 3rd gear. I can’t properly accelerate whenever the vehicle is idle; thus causing safety concerns when operating this vehicle. •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, on [XXX], I took the vehicle into to Carver Toyota Service Center with only 10,639. My warranty covers 100,000 miles bumper to bumper. •Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The Service Member with Carver Toyota “test drove” and confirmed that the vehicle shifted harshly from park to reverse and from 2nd to 3rd gear. The vehicle fluids were checked and were found to be low. The fluids were “topped off” and the vehicle was returned back to me within one day of my delivering it to them. •Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? At the time of my reporting this issue with Carver, there were no warnings or error codes indicted by the vehicle. However, this is a well known issue with this make and model of the Toyota Tacoma. Turning a corner my left axle broke and I only have 3100 miles on this vehicle. Still is not fixed because of warranty issues. When I do get it back I don’t know how I’m suppose to feel safe driving it. Upon checking on YouTube and Internet I see there is a problem with this happing to others. Thank you for your time.

Vehicle was set in tow/haul mode. Tow/haul mode provides higher acceleration by changing the operation of transmission. Vehicle was towing 2500lb cargo trailer on interstate. Driver stopped at rest area and turned off engine and left vehicle. Driver returned to vehicle 5 minutes later. Driver started engine and proceeded to leave the rest area. Driver was on highway entrance ramp. Entrance ramp merges with right lanr Driver attempted to accelerate to enter highway in such a way that there would be safe distance between end of trailer and car on highway approaching end of trailer. Vehicle would not accelerate as quickly as it was accelerating for the past 2 hours. Driver was surprised and distracted. Margin of safety between rear end of trailer and car on highway was greatly reduced. Some time after the incident Driver realized that car forgot it was in tow haul mode whenever engine is turned off. There is no warning that mode changed. This means that car does not behave as reasonably expected after an ignition cycle
