Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorSep 24, 2026

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, GMC Sierra 2500/3500 vehicles, and 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The left-side or right-side roof rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

A detached end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape and project the end cap or fragments of the inflator into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace both RRAB modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N262569920. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 24, 2026.

  2. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, wheel speed sensor/tone ringOct 24, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  3. Service brakes, hydraulic, power assist, vacuumSep 6, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

  4. Child seat, tether, connector/clipAug 3, 2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The owner's manual for the affected vehicles may be missing instructions on how to use the tether anchorage and child restraint anchorage systems. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

If the instructions are missing from the owner's manual, the child seat may be installed incorrectly and not be properly secured, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide a corrected insert for the owners manual, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 17307.

  5. Air bags, frontalJul 10, 2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

The recall began on October 13, 2016. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL vehicles. The front upper control arms may have inadequate welds near the control arm bushing.

Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2016. Until the repairs have been made, owners are advised not to drive their vehicles. UPON STARTUP.. ENGINE IDLE WAS ROUGH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CODE P050D WAS FOUND. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE INJECTORS ARE BAD

  2. Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 21, 2019

ALL FUEL INJECTORS IN "BANK 1" BECAME FAULTY AND NEED REPLACING IMMEDIATELY WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING OF ISSUES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER MULTIPLE INJECTORS BECAME FAULTY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE TRAVELING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AFTER 2 MINUTES OF HIGHWAY TRAVEL GOING 70 MPH. *LN CONSUMER STATED I'D LIKE TO ADD THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO MY REPORT. AFTER LOOKING FURTHER ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, I CAME ACROSS INFORMATION IN THE 'MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS' SECTION OF THE WEBSITE PERTAINING TO 2017 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500'S. THE NHTSA ID NUMBER IS 10163854, AND MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATION NUMBER IS N182198000. IN THIS LETTER IT EXPLAINS ISSUES WITH BANK 1 FUEL INJECTORS, AND WHAT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY PICKUP. UNDER THE 'CONDITIONS' SECTION OF THIS LETTER, PAGE 1, MY VEHICLE MEETS ALL THE CONDITIONS ASIDE FROM LIVING IN WYOMING AND NOT ONE OF THE 13 STATES LISTED. MY PICKUP IS A 2017 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH A 5.3L ENGINE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATED, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GARVIN MOTORS IN POWELL, WY, AND THEY SAID A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE RETURNED WITH FUEL TO AIR RATIO ISSUE IN BANK 1. UPON FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS IT WAS REVILED THE FUEL INJECTORS NEED REPLACING IN BANK 1, JUST AS STATED IN THIS LETTER FROM GM. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH TWO GM DEALERS IN THE AREA, AND I HAVE BEEN QUOTED TWO PRICES TO REPLACE PARTS LISTED ON THIS DOCUMENT FROM GM. I HAVE ALSO REACHED OUT TO GM, AND THEY SAID THEY WILL RESEARCH THIS LETTER MORE AND GET BACK WITH ME. I AM NOW TWO WEEKS WITHOUT A VEHICLE WHILE THE DEALERSHIP IS DEMANDING I MAKE A DECISION TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE, HOW I WILL BE ABLE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS UPON COMPLETION, AND GM CUSTOMER SUPPORT WILL NOT TAKE MY CALLS WITH TELLING ME THEY WILL BE CALLED BACK. I HAVE SPOKEN TO GM THREE TIMES ABOUT THIS WITH EACH TIME STATING THEY NEED TO LOOK INTO THE MATTER FURTHER. DENNY MENHOLT DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN CODY, WY, CURRENTLY HAS MY PICKUP WITH NO REPAIRS STARTED AT THIS TIME. *JB

  3. Service brakes, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 9, 2019

FUEL INJECTOR OR FUEL PUMP DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. ON TWO (2) DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, MONTHS APART, MY ENGINE HAS LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. BOTH TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS 10 - 15 MPH AND LOW RPMS. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ONE VEHICLE AND FOR ANOTHER TO ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND AS MY CAR DIED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN OFF A BUSY ROAD. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN TWICE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP AND GM BOTH SAY UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE ISSUE THEY WILL NOT FIX OR REPLACE ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED/REVIEWED. ON TOP OF THIS, THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES AND DO A SOFTWARE PATCH UPDATE BECAUSE THE BACKUP CAMERA WAS DANGEROUSLY BRIGHT, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THE CAMERA ISSUE TOOK 2 VISITS TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO GET RESOLVED. GM IS PLAYING THE NUMBERS GAME OF HOPING FOR A FINE INSTEAD OF PAYING TO REPLACE ANY PARTS. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE DEALING WITH A PR BATTLE ABOUT MAKING CARS OUTSIDE OF THE USA. THEY TOOK THE BAILOUT MONEY AND SCREWED AMERICANS.

  4. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 7, 2019

MY 2017 SIVERADO WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES IS AT THE DEALERSHIP, DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR ON THE #7 CYLINDER. I AM BEING TOLD IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO BARE THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I DO NOT FEEL THAT ON A TWO YEAR OLD VEHICLE, THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR SHOULD FAIL, NOR SHOULD I BARE THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. I AM NOT ASKING FOR A RESOLUTION, I JUST WANT OTHER TO BE AWARE OF THE DEFECT.

  5. Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 18, 2019

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V088000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. RODENROTH MOTORS INC (3055 S MACKINAC TRAIL, SAULT STE. MARIE, MI 49783, (906) 662-4756) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

  6. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Feb 25, 2019

THE ENGINE IS UNABLE TO RECEIVE CONSISTENT FUEL WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE. IT REQUIRES PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES AND RESTARTS TO GET THE ENGINE GOING. THEN, WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE LOSES FUEL AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF AND ESSENTIALLY DIE. THIS HAS PUT ME IN 2 NEAR WRECK INCIDENTS ALREADY DESPITE THE GM DEALERSHIPS SAYING THERE IS NO ISSUE.

  7. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 18, 2018

ENGINE HESITATION, OR MISFIRING. JERKING, OR TRANSMISSION SHUTTERING WHEN ENGINE IS AT LOW RPM AND ON INCLINE. (I.E. WHEN TRAVELING ABOUT 45MPH AND START UP A HILL, THE RPM'S ARE ABOUT 1300, AND THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T GEAR DOWN, SO IT STARTS SHUTTERING UNTIL YOU GIVE IT MORE ACCELERATION THAN USUAL.) AFTER DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR NEARLY 8 MONTHS AND 15K MILES, I BELIEVE THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED. DEALER ORIGINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM BUT WAS UNSURE OF THE CAUSE. AFTER 5 REPAIR ATTEMPTS THE DEALER SAY THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE AND THE VEHICLE PERFORMS AS DESIGNED.

  8. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 27, 2018

VEHICLE HESITATION AND SURGES IN ACCELERATION. THIS CONDITION IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT HESITATES PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, SURGES IN ACCELERATION HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF TIRE TRACTION ON ICE COVERED ROADWAYS NEARLY RESULTING IN A COLLISION. DEALERS HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED AN ISSUE BUT ADVISE THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON A FIX FROM GM.

  9. Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 27, 2017

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. UPON REFUELING THE VEHICLE, WATER ENTERED NEAR THE PLASTIC FILLER, WHICH AFFECTED THE FUEL GAUGE AREA. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A SOLUTION TO BE PROVIDED TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE....UPDATED 05/17/17 *BF
