Representative owner complaints

631 reports, newest first.

  1. Engine, Sep 24, 2026

Vehicle engine failed with approximately 48,000 miles. Prior to failure, engine shut off while traveling 55mph on a public highway causing operator to have to pull over to restart engine. Vehicle inspected by GM dealer who advised metal in engine oil, requiring engine replacement.

  2. Power train, Sep 24, 2026

The Transmission has failed, it is a 2022 chevy silverado, which other vin numbers have federal recalls regarding the same issue our truck is having. The truck locks in place while driving and then gives a jolt. The manufacturer has the vehicle who we bought it from. I also have been in touch with GM regarding this issue as well.

  3. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 24, 2026

I was sent a notice of a recall regarding a fuel pump, power control module that needs to be taken care of, but it is not being accepted under my VIN number. I believe that there is this issue with my vehicle or something similar because every day I start the vehicle up for the first time and drive it. It is jerking me and does not have proper fuel or proper pressure to move the vehicle without jerking me. After 10 to 15 minutes it cleans up and drives better but then again we’ll redo it if I sit still for multiple hours and restart the vehicle again late in the afternoon it will do it all over.

  4. Power train, Sep 24, 2026

Transmission is shuttering and rpm fluctuates up and down Chevrolet dealership says the torque converter goes out on the trucks all the time mine is at 84000 miles they say its a common issue

  5. Engine, Sep 23, 2026

My 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country with the 6.2L L87 engine suffered a sudden catastrophic engine failure after passing the inspection for Recall 25V274 at approximately 70,000 miles and being returned to service. While I was pulling into my driveway, the engine abruptly shut off as though the ignition had been turned off. It would crank but would not restart. The sudden loss of propulsion while the vehicle was moving created a safety concern; a similar shutdown in traffic could cause a crash. The Chevrolet dealership disassembled the engine and documented multiple lifters stuck in their bores, requiring excessive force to remove, and deep cylinder-wall scoring that could catch a fingernail. The dealer determined that the block damage required complete engine replacement and replaced the engine. The dealer attributed the failure to lack of oil or improper maintenance and denied recall-related coverage, stating that the failure involved the upper engine rather than the crankshaft or connecting-rod bearings covered by the recall. I strongly dispute the poor-maintenance conclusion. Oil changes were performed regularly. The dealer told me the oil was somewhat low but still within the operating range when the truck arrived after the failure. I ask NHTSA to review this sudden engine failure following completion of Recall 25V274 and whether the recall inspection/remedy adequately addresses the risk of subsequent engine failure. I am not asserting that a particular manufacturing defect caused this failure; the underlying cause remains disputed. Availability of the failed engine for further inspection is unknown.

  6. Engine, Lane departure, Sep 22, 2026

We were sold a 2022 ZR2 1500 Chevy pickup on 8/14/2026. The dealer disclosed "unknown" on the used car buyer disclosure form. By admission of service department this truck's engine seized in March 2026. A replacement engine was ordered, placed on back order, and arrived to the dealership in August 2026. The service department believed that the repair was done and finished on 8/14/2026, the same date as the purchase. On 8/30/2026, the truck was not running properly, not moving forward despite pressing on the gas, and lots of instrument panel lights. The truck was towed to the dealership and "fixed" They claim it was a fuel injector and separate from the issue regarding the engine.

  7. Engine, Sep 21, 2026

My truck was driving fine down the road and started getting a knocking sound. I had a tow truck come pick the truck up and take it to the dealer, after about a week they advised I needed a new motor

  8. Power train, Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 19, 2026

Traveling on interstate highway at 70 mph when the truck engine went to idle and transmission tried to go into park. The dash just flashes "service transmission" and and other warnings. Engine still runs but can't shift out of park. Shifter is not responding to move the truck. Engine can't come off idle. Turn off engine. Power button will turn power on or off but won't crank engine. 4 ways flash for awhile with dash flashing then everything go blank. All electric power is lost for awhile and then dash starts flashing and 4 ways start flashing for awhile. This cycle keeps repeating. Truck has to be loaded on a truck to tow away. This is the 3rd time is has done this problem but at lower speeds before. Dealer can't find the problem yet.

  9. Power train, Sep 18, 2026

The vehicle intermittently experiences transmission or drivetrain slipping, shuddering or juddering, and shaking while being driven. The symptoms are inconsistent and there is currently no check-engine warning light. The problem has not yet been diagnosed or confirmed by a dealer. I am concerned that the condition could worsen and cause loss of propulsion, unexpected shifting, or loss of control. The vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine and is within the model family described in NHTSA recall 24V-797 involving transmission control valve wear. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request.

  10. Power train, Sep 17, 2026

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission shuddered and shifted hard. There was an abnormally loud thumping sound coming from the engine compartment while accelerating. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, and an oil leak was found. The contact was informed that a software update was needed, and that several unknown parts in the engine and a wiring harness and oil cooler needed to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

  11. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 17, 2026

Was driving at highway speeds when truck shuttered and rattled and quickly slowing down. Warning errors on dash stated "Reduced Acceleration, Drive with Care", "Service Emissions System", "Service Traction Control", "Service ESC". Got vehicle to dealer and they confirmed the error code (P0202 - covered under powertrain warranty), but then also noted an error code for P129F where the truck would not start up. They are recommending a replacement of the Fuel Pump Power Control Module. GM had updated a NHTSA bulletin (original: N262558690 - Emissions Recall - Fuel Pump Power Control Module - July 15, 2026) on August 12, 2026 that expanded the population of qualified models to include the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. However, on September 1 they issued an updated notice that said "GM has since identified certain 2022-2023 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that were erroneously included in this recall and are not affected by the condition." I believe my truck was originally included in the recall, was removed two weeks ago, and now my dealer has subsequently diagnosed a Fuel Pump Power Control Module failure with DTC P129F and recommended replacement This all follows a warranty repair I had to get two weeks ago on my Engine Coolant Control Valve (P1098), which was covered under powertrain warranty

  12. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Sep 16, 2026

The transmission it erratically shifts and has a roaring sound. I also says shift to park when it is in park. It wont start when it is cold it just cranks and cranks it has since i bought it. Well when my kids and I are going down the road and the transmittion randomly starts up shifting or down shifting and whenit goes out its gonn lock up probably where fever we are. as for the starting thing when its cold its isnt the ideal to have to go build a fire in the garage just to get my truck to start during an emergency. I have had a garage hook it up to a computer to see if it was throwing any codes. It wasn't except a brake sensor. I bought this truck 2 years ago and have nothing but trouble with it shifting and and the dash always says shift to park. this is one of the worst Chevrolet trucks i have ever bought. it only has around 70000 miles on it. I had the truck about 3 month when the transmittion issue started. It has never started when it was cold out side the whole time I have owned igt.

  13. Suspension, Sep 16, 2026

A leaf spring broke on rear suspension. Bought a gm leaf spring from a dealer and gm won’t cover only because an independent shop did work. Truck is a personal vehicle not used in hauling. In my opinion and because even dealer where I purchased vehicle said they had never seen this happen it is a defective part. Only reason for gm to not stand behind it was repair not done at dealer. Truck has 112000 mi.

  14. Engine, Sep 14, 2026

Engine is the 6.2L V8. Engine has started consuming oil. Consumed approximately 3 quarts of oil over 4k miles. 0 signs of external leakage.

  15. Engine, Sep 10, 2026

I took my truck in to have a bad fuel pump module looked at. During the inspection they found some metal in the oil and it was confirmed by more being in the oil filter. This truck had previoulsy been cleared on the NHTSA Campaign 25V-274, but now it appears that it is a part of that recall. The dealer has initiated the work with the chevy corporate offices and I am working to secure a rental/ loaner car. I am filing this in the event there are any issues getting the new replacement engine.

  16. Other or unspecified, Sep 9, 2026

I recently took my vehicle in for maintenance work on my transmission. I was informed that my vehicle was showing code P0747 which was under a special coverage warranty by GM. I then took my vehicle to our local GM dealership and was told that my vehicle does not qualify for the special coverage warranty N242454441 because my VIN number was not attached to the parts and the best I could do was contact GM. I reached out to GM to see if I could get a clearer understanding and my claim was denied. I spoke with a very helpful lady that informed me she would have their area technician reach out to me to see what could be done. After a few voicemails he did return my call to let me know GM would not be helping with reimbursement because the VIN was not attached to the part numbers. He ended with telling me that parts wear out and there was no proof that our 2022 Chevrolet Diesel Silverado 1500 was included in the special coverage warranty. I am reaching out because this is the second time we have had issues with trying to get recalls/warranties covered by Chevrolet and not been successful. I am currently looking at GM's special coverage N242454441 - This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 15 years or 150,000 miles (240,000km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Vehicle owners or lessees who paid for repairs referenced in this Special Coverage (“Customers”) are eligible for reimbursement of their reasonable and customary expenses in accordance with the procedures specified below. The conditional right to reimbursement is provided by GM solely in the interest of customer satisfaction and is personal to Customers. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Please explain to me why my vehicle is showing this code and once again I am being told I will get no help from Chevrolet? This is a problem and I feel that we fall under this warranty.

  17. Engine, Sep 9, 2026

Coolant Control Valve is malfunctioning. Check engine code P1098, Running Fans Loud cooling fans running at full blast shortly after turning off the engine. General Motors issued special coverages N252508341 extending coolant control valve warranty protection up to 15 years or 150,000 miles for select 3.0L Duramax vehicles. Unfortunately, GM says my VIN isn’t covered by the extended warranty even though it has all the same issues as those that are covered down to the check engine code notes on their bulletin N252508341.

  18. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 8, 2026

I experienced a crankshaft bearing failure while driving my 6.2L V8 Chevrolet Silverado on the highway / freeway. Thankfully I was able to exit highway / freeway to avoid a car collision due to loss of power. My truck was towed to a certified Chevy dealer. This is a known issue for 2019-2026 6.2L V8 L87 engines. The truck was previously inspected by a certified Chevy dealer for prior L87 engine recall. It passed and they changed the oil type to 0w-40. Prior to this event, my truck was at the dealer for a low oil pressure issue / oil pan replacement. I picked it up from the dealer after the vehicle was repaired and drove it for about three days and then experienced the crankshaft bearing failure. No warning lamps illuminated prior to failure. My truck is currently at the dealer waiting for a new engine.

  19. Engine, Sep 7, 2026

The vehicle has blown 3 motors in 3 years. I took felivery 3/17/23. The first engine blew at 8,000 miles on 10/27/24. The second one blew 8/29/25 The 3rd one blew 4/12/26 at 52,000 miles on the vehicle.

  20. Power train, Sep 4, 2026

Special Coverage Program" (N242454441 While driving, the vehicle experienced sudden, severe shifting issues and entered a dangerous transmission "Limp Mode" severely limiting vehicle speed and power in live traffic. An OBD-II diagnostic scan retrieved active trouble code P0747 (Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Stuck On). This indicates a well-documented mechanical defect in the transmission valve body covered under GM Special Coverage Program N242454441. [1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8] Upon contacting my local Chevrolet dealership service department, I was informed that due to catastrophic backlog and part constraints, the dealership cannot physically scan or diagnose the vehicle for six months. The manufacturer's network is actively failing to provide a timely safety remedy for a known powertrain defect, leaving a hazardous, malfunctioning vehicle on the road without a resolution or substitute transportation.

  21. Other or unspecified, Sep 3, 2026

Incident Description:While driving my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado at highway speeds, the front passenger-side bumper outer filler panel (fascia molding) completely detached from the vehicle without warning and flew off into active traffic. The factory plastic mounting clips and tabs failed entirely under normal driving conditions. Because the panel flew directly into the path of trailing vehicles, this defect creates an immediate and severe road hazard that could easily cause a multi-vehicle accident or serious injury. This is a known engineering and structural defect shared across this vehicle platform, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Chevrolet Silverado to protect the public.

  22. Power train, Sep 3, 2026

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled while attempting to accelerate, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the rear wheels locked up due to the failure. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road but was unable to exceed 3 MPH. The vehicle was restarted. There was a burning oil odor, but the contact was unsure if the odor was coming from the vehicle or another vehicle nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and DTC: P0700 (Transmission Control System) and P2714 (Pressure Control Solenoid Performance/Stuck Off) were retrieved. The contact was informed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by phone, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 81,700.

  23. Engine, Sep 2, 2026

NHTSA VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT Vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 Trail Boss Engine: 6.2L V8 VIN: [XXX] Selling Dealer: Harris Hankins Chevrolet, Bay Springs, Mississippi I purchased this 2022 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 Trail Boss from Harris Hankins Chevrolet in Bay Springs, Mississippi. The truck is equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine and has experienced repeated and serious engine failures. The vehicle is currently operating on its third engine. The original factory-installed engine suffered a major engine failure at approximately 27,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealership, where the original engine was replaced. The second engine failed within approximately 30 miles of leaving the dealership following the first engine replacement. This failure resulted in the vehicle requiring another engine replacement. The truck is now operating with its third engine. I have periodically noticed abnormal valvetrain noise coming from this third engine. Considering that the first two engines experienced major failures, I am very concerned that this abnormal valvetrain noise may indicate another developing engine problem or potential engine failure. This 2022 Chevrolet Silverado has therefore experienced two major engine failures at very low mileage and is now on its third engine, which is periodically exhibiting abnormal valvetrain noise. I believe these repeated engine failures represent a serious vehicle safety concern. A sudden engine failure or loss of propulsion while traveling at highway speeds or in traffic could create a dangerous situation for the driver, passengers, and other motorists. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) formally document my vehicle’s history and investigate these repeated failures involving the Chevrolet/GM 6.2L V8 engine. The dealership has the service records and repair documentation concerning the previous engine failures and engine replacements. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  24. Engine, Sep 2, 2026

I did the 0w-40 oil swap and now my truck is having more issues than before the recall, doing a “oil consumption test”

  25. Electrical system, Sep 1, 2026

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. The message "Shift to Neutral and Restart" was displayed. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure progressed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and remained at the dealer for additional diagnostic tests. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that prior to the failure, while hauling a trailer, the message "Reduced Power" was momentarily displayed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
