  1. Engine and engine cooling, Aug 21, 2026, crash

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to crank. The contact originally suspected a battery failure, as the vehicle had recently been involved in an accident that left the passenger-side mirror damaged with exposed wires. While driving at 70 MPH, a semi-truck sideswiped the passenger-side of the vehicle, causing a dent on the front door and a fractured side-view mirror. The semi-truck driver did not stop, and the contact's son drove the vehicle to the nearest exit. No air bags deployed, no warning lights illuminated, and no injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to a collision center, where it was determined that the battery was not the cause of the starting failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with camshaft, timing belt, and actuator failures. Upon removing the camshaft, metal shavings were found inside the engine, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,733.

  2. Engine, Aug 19, 2026

Currently had my engine go into "limp mode" after checked engine light came on with code p1010. The coolant control valve is what is the problem, and GM/Chevy has issued a special coverage on this known part for my year make and model (Bulletin N252508341). However, according to the dealership, my VIN does not qualify for this known issue, regardless of my faulty part matching the special coverage for the year make and model of my vehicle. Now I'm stuck paying for the empty promise from Chevy.

  3. Engine and engine cooling, Engine, Aug 10, 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the messages "Engine Power Reduced" and "Speed Limited to 65 MPH" were displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine coolant flow control valve and related components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: EA25007 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

  4. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 6, 2026

On August 22, 2025 the malfunction indicator lamp (code: P146B Evap. purge pump) illuminated with no noticeable change. Ran codes at auto zone which stated engine failed and emissions not ready. August 25, 2025 drove to certified Chevy dealer dropped off vehicle and showed the service advisor the fix finder test results from auto zone as well as the illuminated indicator lamp (check engine light). August 26, 2025 picked up my vehicle with receipt stating "found dtc's P146b and P1467 stored in ECM (engine control module) for evap purge pump fault. inspected evap canister for any signs of fuel and none were found. replaced evap purge pump per special policy #N232395310. Cleared dtc and road tested vehicle to verify repair". September 9, 2025 my engine indicator light illuminated and my engine entered limp mode, a safety feature which reduces cylinder output/capacity. September 12, 2025 while in limp mode, I returned to the service dealer and informed them of the reduced power (limp mode) and my confusion as the second engine symbol that has been illuminated is in a different area than the first and my truck has ONE engine. (editor note: malfunction indicator lamp is for the emissions). My original transmission (8L90) was replace, because my vehicle was under power train warranty and the service advisor took it upon himself to approve the disassembly of my running, in good condition 8L90 transmission without consulting me or my approval. the 8L90 was "discontinued" for the 2020-2022 years without recall come to find out (sarcasm). I now have a new transmission (8L86-85) with the "special coverage" part (#N232395310) still connected, only now I have NO additional powertrain coverage for a new transmission, but the "special coverage" originally issued in 2023, BY MAIL, for 15 yr/150,000miles has extended two years plus mileage. (15 yr / 152,955) .The "special coverage" part should NOT affect the engine! Engines produce power/HEAT not CO2 . Sarbane - Oxley Act.

  5. Engine and engine cooling, Aug 3, 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle came to a complete stop without warning. The contact stated that the failure had occurred twice. During the first failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a lifter inside the engine was replaced. The contact stated that after the second failure, the contact allowed the vehicle to sit for a while before restarting the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that a lifter and the camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

  6. Power train, Engine, Aug 3, 2026

2021 Chevy Silverado 5.3 trail boss lifters has failed on this driver two times while driving on highway engine lost power with my family in the vehicle. Dealer warranty fixed lifter the first time lifter went out at 1100 miles. The vehicle has failed again with multiple lifters going out and camshaft needing being replaced also on my extended warranty at 73000 miles. I do not want to take this vehicle back in my possession as it has put me and my family at risk twice being stuck on highway with no power.

  7. Power train, Engine, Jul 30, 2026

On or around XXX a my 2021 Silverado started making a rattling sound from the engine. The truck began to stall and the engine shut off three times while driving. I attached scanner the next day and the track showed P00011 and P00016 codes. Those codes are for the Camshaft Sensor and the Crankshaft Sensor. I went online and did research about the two codes and discovered there had been a couple recalls for these codes concerning my year model truck: (Recall Number 25V-274; GM: Campain N252494000). NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25007 or RQ26001 I spoke with the Dealer I purchased vehicle from (Lynn Layton Chevrolet - Decatur, Al)and they said they will not begin repairs until they receive payment from GM or myself. I then spoke with Tyler at GM Corporate Customer Service. He said my VIN was not included in the GM Campaign|Recall. I asked why not because it is a 2021 Silverado and I’m having the exact same problems as vehicles included in the recall. He said because they checked their system and the parts used on my truck were from a different manufacturer than those included on the recall. I said that shouldn’t matter because my truck is having the same exact problems. I asked him to check and see if GM would be able to provide financial assistance to have motor repaired or replaced. Tyler told me that GM will not do repairs - they will only replace the engine. He said GM would not provide any financial assistance because my truck has 170k plus miles on it. I informed Him that I had previously taken my truck to Lynn Layton Chevrolet about these symptoms and it was diagnosed as transmission/torque converter problem. They changed transmission fluid and charged me ~$700. I then asked if GM would authorize a “Goodwill Replacement”. He said they would not. I called Lynn Layton Decatur back and asked how much would engine and reps if I have to pay for it. They said 10k -12k A local mechanic said he will fix for $6,000. Please help me get this resolved. 8. Engine, Jul 25, 2026

While driving at ~50mph, the truck immediately went into reduced power mode, temperatures spiked to 260 from 210. Engine code P1006 showed indicating coolant control valve failure. After experiencing, I discovered that GM issued Special Coverage for Coolant Control Valve (N252508341). However, the local Chevy dealership indicated my truck would not be covered even though it is within the timeframe/mileage, and falls in the year/make/model categories. According to them, the coverage is VIN specific and my VIN is not listed. They directed me to Chevrolet Customer Care. Customer Care did not acknowledge the Special Coverage until I directed them to the correct bulletin. They further indicated because my VIN was not covered, they would not be able to do anything. This issue is HIGHLY known by GM, but they have failed to remedy appropriately. It is also a safety hazard, especially in my case, where the failure occurred on the highway, at speed with cars behind me, and resulted in the truck immediately ceasing normal operation causing the potential for property damage and/or injury.

  9. Engine, Jul 23, 2026

Catastrophic engine failure. Confirmed by GM dealer. No symptoms prior.

  10. Engine, Jul 22, 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power and stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with an internal engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

  11. Engine, Jul 22, 2026

I have a 2021 Silverado with the 6.2L engine. I had received the recall notice, but it took several months before I could get the truck checked. By the time I was able to get it inspected, the truck had over 100,00 miles, with the symptoms associated with the 6.2L engine failure. It was said to have passed inspection, but I had my doubts. Low and behold, my engine failed not once but twice. The first time I was told it was not due to the recall and paid out of pocket. The most recent failure, (same exact failure as before, and nearly caused an accident) happened last week. I towed it to a different dealership than where it was inspected and where the last repair occurred, and was told it needed a new engine. I called and was told by the dealership that a new engine was ordered, and they were waiting to hear back from GM on if they would cover it or not. I was also told they were very confident GM would cover it, and that is why they ordered a new engine. A few days later, I get a call and find out GM is in fact not covering it and the repair is around $12,000. I am beyond frustrated at GM for not taking accountability, and the dealership for giving me false hope that this would be covered.

  12. Engine, Jul 19, 2026

On June 22, 2026, my Chevy Silverado was inoperable and had to be towed to the Chevy dealership. After a period of examination by the service staff, it was deemed to have experienced CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. My truck has the 6.2L engine, but was NOT included in the original recall. It had just been serviced on 6/19/2026 and was only driven approx. 20 miles to my home. I have a video of what it was doing when I went to leave for work two days later on 6/22 when it wouldn't run without major issues and a burning smell.

  13. Engine and engine cooling, Jul 17, 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the engine occasionally overheated. The check engine warning light was illuminated for a day, and there were six diagnostic trouble codes displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the coolant flow control valve was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the repair was not covered under warranty or recall. The contact became aware of GMC Special Programs: N252508340 and N25250834, which were associated with the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

  14. Engine, Jul 16, 2026

The Coolant Control Valve (DTC Code P1098) is failing and only certain trucks are covered under GMs special coverage, being as this is a common issues why aren't all the trucks covered

  15. Engine, Jul 15, 2026

Truck blew up driving down the road and the the Chevy app gave me a code and it was the same code it is recalled for but I was told it wasn’t under recall

  16. Engine, Jul 15, 2026

An engine lifter broke in my 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 (6.2 liter) and it bent a push rod. The truck was towed to the dealership where it was purchased. They replace all the lifters on the failed side and the bent push rod. The reason I am reporting this is because it happened at a very unfortunate time and could have resulted in a major accident if the engine would have seized. I was turning a corner, crossing oncoming highway traffic, and pulling our camper/travel trailer. I see that it has been a relatively common problem with the GM 6.2L and even some 5.3L motors and appears to be related to GM's active fuel management (AFM).

  17. Electrical system, Engine, Jul 14, 2026

Loss of engine power while merging or passing traffic. * Reduced acceleration making it difficult to enter highways safely. * Engine overheating if the active grille shutters fail in the closed position. * Unexpected limp mode causing sudden speed reduction in traffic. * Increased risk of a rear-end collision due to loss of power or reduced speed. * Check engine light and warning messages distracting the driver. * Vehicle stalling while driving or at intersections. * Reduced visibility if the defroster or HVAC performance is affected by engine temperature issues. * Potential engine damage from overheating, creating a hazard if the vehicle becomes disabled on the roadway. The active grille shutter system malfunctioned and caused warning lights to illuminate. I am concerned that the shutters remaining closed could lead to engine overheating or reduced vehicle performance while driving, increasing the risk of an accident due to loss of power or unexpected vehicle behavior in traffic.

  18. Engine, Jul 13, 2026

I just got this car from a used car dealership, it has 170K miles and the engine just stopped on me today. It’s very disappointing for the car to just stop like this. While I had my family in the car with a new born. Very disappointing

  19. Power train, Engine, Jul 7, 2026

I have a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a 3.0 Duramax diesel engine, Have had a check engine light intermittent a couple times. Vehicle went into limp mode. Had the diagnostic code read; P1010. Code P1010 shows an engine coolant flow control valve position sensor exceeded minimum learning limit. General Motors has issued a special warranty N252508341covering 2021-2023 Silverado 1500 for this part ( LM2 coolant control valve replacement ) with a 15 year and 150,000 mile limit. I took my vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer and they said my VIN number was not covered. It would be a $1900 repair. I have read of numerous other of same vehicles listed under the special warranty, yet GM has excluded these VIN numbers as well. This is a known defect, GM has covered some but not all. Yet many are NOT covered yet having the same problem. I am not able to reach anyone at GM to talk about this issue. It needs to be addressed.

  20. Engine, Jul 1, 2026

I am requesting immediate review and resolution regarding a major engine failure in my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 engine. My vehicle has suffered a complete engine failure and is displaying code P0016 (crankshaft/camshaft correlation). This is a known and widely documented defect affecting GM 6.2L engines and is the basis of an existing recall and engine replacement program for similarly equipped vehicles. Despite my vehicle exhibiting the exact same failure, I have been informed that my VIN is excluded from the recall. This is unacceptable, as it reflects inconsistent application of a known defect remedy. Under consumer protection principles, including the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers are obligated to address known defects and ensure consistent warranty and post-warranty remedies where systemic issues exist. Denying coverage for an identical failure based solely on VIN exclusion raises serious concerns. I am formally requesting a full goodwill engine replacement. This failure is clearly tied to a known defect pattern, and I expect GM to provide the same remedy afforded to other affected customers. Please escalate this case for immediate review and confirm next steps. I am prepared to provide all supporting documentation.
