Recalls and investigations

  1. Engine and engine cooling, engine, hard parts internal/mechanicalApr 24, 2025

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

  2. Trailer hitchesAug 21, 2024

OEM Systems, LLC (OEM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. The rear bumper mounting bracket may not be sufficient for towing, which can allow the towed trailer to detach from the vehicle.

A trailer that detaches from a vehicle while driving increases the risk of a crash.

OEM will replace the rear bumper mounting bracket and hitch, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in August 2024. Owners may contact OEM customer service at 1-800-810-7252.

  1. Electrical system, Aug 3, 2024

Vehicles dash restarted while driving. All error lights came on and the dash cycled back up like when starting the vehicle. This is a safety risk because you cannot see any info on the dash, including speedometer, RPMs and fuel level! I spoke with the dealer, and the dealer stated if they cannot re-create the problem. There is nothing they are able to do and they have not heard of this before. There were no warnings at all for this issue.

  2. Engine, Jul 10, 2024

Bought my truck new in March, after just 1 week i took my truck in after i noticed a loud rattling sound. Dealership replaced the rear section of the exhaust. After just a few days the noise came back. Now GM wont do anything about it. Truck has 11k miles on it now and the noise continues to get louder. Truck is available to be inspected. I dont feel the truck is dependable. Dealership has heard the sound again but wont do anything because GM wont pay for another exhaust system. No warning lights.

  3. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Jul 5, 2024

As I stopped at a red light, I received a message on my instrument panel to “push state”. I noticed my RPMs were at 0 and my vehicle was in neutral. I attempted to shift into drive, but received the same message again. I already had my foot on the brake as I was stopped, so I pushed the start button. The vehicle began its normal startup sequent and my RPMs return to normal. I shifted into drive and was able to continue to where I was headed. At no time did I ever shift the vehicle into neutral or turn it off.

  4. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Jun 12, 2024

Back up camera and other cameras intermittently stop working and an error pops up on the screen. Could be a safety issue when reversing.

  5. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Jun 5, 2024

The cluster that makes my dash gauges visible has failed and malfunctioning. The safety concern is that I cannot see my speed, my tire pressure, mileage, and I will not be able to see if there are other issues wrong with my vehicle since the entire dash gauges are not visible. The system is not resetting while driving and I lose power when it does that. I have to guess when to put gas or put the risk of myself and other drivers of my vehicle stalling out in the middle of a highway. The issue has been inspected by a dealer during an oil change and they even left a note for me that they were unable to reset my oil mileage because the system is not working. The dealership performed a system test and performed an update and they confirmed that did not fix the cluster issue. There were no warnings before this happened.

  6. Tires, Jun 2, 2024

Tire: 275/60R20 I was driving at the top of Bay bridge, MD and the rear tire just blew up and automatically messaged came on the gauge cluster and my phone that there’s 0psi in the tire so I had to stop on top of the bridge and put a spare on which was quite dangerous but I had no choice because I couldn’t drive on the rim, tow truck showed up and helped me, I had only couple ladders on the back so there was almost no additional weight on the tires and at only couple months old vehicle with only 4,900 miles this should’ve happened. I automatically went to the dealership that I bought the truck and showed them the picture where it happened and what exactly happened and at first they wanted me to pay for the tire but I insisted that they will have to replace it for free because they sold me a vehicle with defective tire so days later they did install a new tire as a one time courtesy they said, but I did check on this tire and there’s a 3yr free replacement warranty if it’s a defective tire but the dealer didn’t tell me that, so now I wonder if any of my other tires will have the same defect?

  7. Other or unspecified, May 30, 2024

Rear back up camera and front camera only work intermittently. This is concerning when backing up in congested areas such as busy parking lots and backing out of driveways. The dealership has been made aware of the issue, but I have not had time to take the truck in to get assessed. The only warning I get is a blank screen with a ‘X’ and a camera icon.

  8. Structure, May 27, 2024

The interior of the updated 2022+ Silverado 1500 and 2024+ HD Silverado has multiple chrome surfaces lining various components of the dash and center console. When operating the vehicle during daylight hours, the reflectivity of the chrome reflects sunlight and directs glaring light into your eyes at various angles. This glaring and dazzling light reflection causes a direct blinding irritation to the driver that interferes with visibility outside of the vehicle and reduces the driver's ability to safely identify and react to changes in the roadway or surrounding traffic. This is an issue that is widely reported by a multitude of owners across online forums and social media groups.

  9. Exterior lighting, Apr 11, 2024

The lower portion of both headlights frosts on the inside of the lamp at temps below freezing. The frosting limits the projection of the beam at night. This problem must be corrected through a recall. GMC has a BULLETIN on this problem, but does not offer a fix.

  10. Steering, Mar 8, 2024

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on newly paved roadways, the front end of the vehicle was darting around while steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the tires were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and recommended the contact to replace the tires. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
