Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The coolant low gauge failed, stating that the coolant was low and the car was overheating and needed to be pulled off to a safe side. With the odometer not reaching the H showing it was approaching hot too soon. Before an individual could fully pull off the road safely car started to shake, the light went red, the dash said car overheating pull off, and the car turned off. The individual was still somewhat in a lane and on the side of the freeway where cars could still possibly hit the car and roll off the side of a cliff. This problem has been confirmed by a dealer before. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The warning lights and messages did not give enough warning to get off the road to safety.
Engine, Jul 5, 2021
Coolant has been leaking from vehicle over the course of a month and a half. Fill reservoir only to have to refill within a week to two weeks with coolant.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 28, 2021
The purge valve (whole system) has failed on my vehicle when it was on less than 5 years old. This can cause for the vehicle to pause which is dangerous. Because my purge valve (whole system) failed, not only did input my family at risk for danger, I now have to pay out of pocket to have this repair. I did not have the money to get it repair and now that I do I have to pay over $600. Ford has recognized that this is a systemic issue, however they somehow were able to focus their recall to specific manufacturers which did not cover all including my vehicle.
Engine, Jun 23, 2021
One of the radiator hoses, causing all of the coolant to drain in less than 1 second, followed by tremendous amounts of smoke coming from the engine. A warning light came on the dash, with a loud alarm. The car immediately overheated and had I not stopped driving the car in seconds, it would have overheated & destroyed the engine. This occurred in heavy traffic, on a highway while I was in a middle lane. This made it hard to get to the shoulder and other drivers were not letting me move over easily. Once of the shoulder, I was stuck for 4 hours with an engine that was smoking so badly, I thought it might catch on fire. Prior to the moment the part failed, there was no warning. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer repair and they replaced the hose. The dealer repair person said that these hoses fail with some regularity and I was just unlucky to have it happen under the circumstances (being on a highway, at speed, during high traffic time).
Fuel system, Gasoline, Engine, Jun 23, 2021
Vehicle will not start after fueling. Takes up to 20 minutes delay to start vehicle after filling tank with fuel. Not a single incident. Has happened every time I have fueled the vehicle over the course of several months. Mechanic stated it is an emissions problem with this model vehicle, but there is no recall issued.

Code P26B7 Engine Bypass Coolant is shown when diagnostic is performed. I have to add coolant on a regular basis (1-2 x’s a week) My VIN has not been included in SAFETY RECALL 13S12 or any other pertaining to engine/coolant issues. My year model, date manufactured which is 1/13, engine type (1.6L) should qualify for this type of recall. This has been an ongoing problem for 3 years plus. I always check my coolant levels before I leave to see if I need to add coolant and I keep extra coolant in my car to add whenever warning light “coolant low” warning appears (which I never know when that will happen). The first incident I did not have coolant in my car and it overheated and engine shut down. I had it towed to nearest auto parts store to purchase and add coolant. I have not had it fixed by the dealership because of cost of repairs to fix since it was not included for recall. I am the only owner of this car, I purchased it May 2013.

While driving vehicle, the temperature warning light came on as did the power steering light. Went into limp mode. Coolant was full. Had to have it towed. This is second time this happened. Let vehicle sit for a day and tried it again. With in 2 minutes of it cranking, it did the same thing. Now have it at a mechanics shop.

Engine, May 28, 2021
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Engine overheating. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The engine overheats while driving and the car stalls. This put me and my family in danger as the engine does not provide any power to the vehicle and essentially stalls and 'shuts down'. If the car overheats it could potentially catch on fire putting me in danger. Additionally, if I am traveling on a highway or a city street with no engine power, I risk a collision with other drivers. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - The car has been to the dealer for service on 8+ occasions for this issue. They have seen the vehicle overheat and have downloaded the codes from the vehicles computer that confirm the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's engineers. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - Yes, there was a warning each time the vehicle overheated. However, the warning happened simultaneously to the overheat issue. So, while it technically warned me - it was a moot point because i was already traveling at city street speeds. This is a recurring issue that began 5+ years ago and persists today. Ford has not been able to properly diagnose the root cause, or provide a fix to the issue. I am nervous to put my family in this vehicle. Uploading the initial service request below - can provide additional files if needed.

The car will stall out and say it’s overheating when it isn’t. This is very dangerous because it can cause a major accident. I have taken it to Ford dealership and another mechanic and each time they say there is nothing wrong with it but it’s been doing this since 2017 when I bought it.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY I RECEIVED A SERVICE ALERT SAYING "LOW COOLANT SERVICE NOW". INTERESTINGLY MY CAR HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO HATE GOING SLIGHTLY UPHILL AND I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT IT MUST BE RELATED, BUT I JUST HAD MY CAR SERVICED ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR. ABOUT 1/4 MILE LATER MY CAR THROUGH A RED SERVICE ALERT THAT SAID ENGINE OVERHEAT TURN OFF FOR SAFETY. I PULLED OVER QUICKLY AND MY ENGINE WAS SMOKING. STEAM WAS COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND A LOT OF ANTIFREEZE WAS DRIPPING OUT OF THE BOTTOM. FROM HERE I GOT A TOW AND NEED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. LUCKILY I WAS A SMART DRIVER IN THKS CASE AND THE CAR DID NOT IGNITE. WHILE I WAS PULLED OVER IN LESS THAN 20 MINUTES MY HAZARD LIGHTS NO LONGER WORKED BECAUSE I HAD NO BATTERY AND HAD TO JUMP IT IN ORDER TO ROLL UP THE WINDOWS WHEN THE TOW TRUCK FINALLY ARRIVED. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS DESCRIBED JUST LIKE THIS AND BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS COOLANT SYSTEM ISSUE. I CHECKED ALL AVAILABLE RECALLS AND NHTSA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL YET. IN SPEAKING WITH FORD UNTIL NHTSA ISSUES A RECALL THEN ALL FORD OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE ARE ON THE HOOK. PLEASE ISSUE THE NEEDED RECALL. TOOK TO AUTO BODY SHOP, THEY SAID CODES WERE SHOWING FOR LOW COOLANT/OVERHEATING BUT THEY DID A PRESSURE TEST AND FOUND COOLANT LEAKING INSIDE CYLINDER, WHICH COINCIDES WITH THE HUGE ENGINE RECALL AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. FORD WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH THIS ALTHOUGH THEY ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A PROBLEM BUT 'MY VIN ISN'T ON THE LIST'. ENGINE REPEATING TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AND LOSE POWER GOING FROM 30MPH DOWN TO 5 SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE, I'M DISABLED AND FORD CO WON'T HELP NOR WILL ANY DEALER.

MY CAR HAS HAD MANY ISSUES WITH COOLANT LEAKING, AND VERY STRONG BURNING SMELLS, ESPECIALLY WHEN ON A HILL, IDLING, OR AFTER RUNNING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. FORD PREVIOUSLY RECALLED CERTAIN 2013 AND 2014 FORD VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 1.6L ENGINE FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGNS 12V551 AND 17V209, BUT EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAS HAD THIS RECALL "FIXED", THE ISSUES IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF.
