Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, floor shiftJul 16, 2018
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S20. Note: Owners are directed to use the parking brake until the recall remedy repairs can be made.

Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012
This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.
If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicles hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicles powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

MY FIANC AND I WERE PULLING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND STOPPED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THE SIDE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY AND MY FIANC IS VERY LUCKY TO BE ALIVE! IT WASN'T UNTIL WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THAT WE REALIZED THAT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS HAD SO MANY RECALLS. THERE ALSO HAS BEEN SO MANY OFFICIAL STALLING COMPLAINTS THAT AN INVESTIGATION HAD BEEEN NECESSARY! SINCE THE ACCIDENT, THE STALLING ISSUE HAS NOT IMPROVED BUT WORSENS AND IS NOW STALLING EVERYTIME WE PUT GAS INTO THE VEHICLE. IT STALLS AND WON'T START AGAIN. HE WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY; UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT COMPLETELY OFF AT THE HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP LUCKILY HE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF ON THE SHOULDER OR HE WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN YET ANOTHER ACCIDENT AND POTENTIALLY KILLED! FORD REALLY NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM! THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ MOST ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE FROM THE BEGINNING OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. WHEN MY FIANC WAS INJURED IN THE FIRST STALLING ACCIDENT WE WEREN'T THE OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE, MY AUNT WAS ALLOWING US TO BORROW HER VEHICLE AND SHE RECENTLY SOLD IT TO US; NOW THAT WE OWN THE VEHICLE WE REALIZE THAT THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED AND SHOULD HAVE! ALSO I UNDERSTAND THE SIDE AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING IS ANOTHER RECALL ISSUE THAT HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED WITH OUR SUV!

WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, IT SER ME LIKE IT IS NOT RUNNING RIGHT, AND THINK IT IS GOING TO DIE ON US IN TRAFFIC. THE FRONT SEAT BELT DOES NOT GO BACK IN THE AREA WHERE IT BELONGS AND SITS ON THE FRONT SEAT. THE PASSENGER DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE RIGHT WHEN YOU OPEN IT. IT WILL STAY OPEN UNTIL YOU PUSH THE HANDLE DOWN AND THEN IT WILL CLOSE AND LOCK. WE ARE AFRAID TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCE WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE CAR ACTS AND RUN. WE JUST WANT IT FIX OR REPLACE VEHICLE.

CAR IS STALLING OUT AT LOW SPEEDS, PARKING LOTS, LIGHTS, DOES'NT MATTER IF IT IS HOT OR COLD OUTSIDE HEATER ON OR OFF, THE LAST TIME IT STALLED OUT I WAS IN A 45 MILE ZONE AND JUST CUT OUT ON ME, I GOT TO THE CENTER TURN LANE AND GOT MY FLASHERS ON, I HAD TO GET IT TO A STOP, THE WORST PART IS NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER IT. I GOT IT IN PARK AND IT FINALLY RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN TO PARKING LOT. IT WAS RAINING AND I COULD SEE A CAR COMING IN BEHIND ME, THANK GOD IT STARTED RIGHT BACKUP AGAIN. THOUGHT I HAD GOT SOME BAD GAS WITH WATER, RAN THE CAR TO ALMOST EMPTY 2 TIMES AND PUT IN GAS TREATMENTS AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE GAS, DIDN'T HELP. I ALSO AM GETTING LOW ENGINE COOLANT EVEN THOUGH I FILL IT EVERY WEEK. THIS STARTED LAST WINTER, I DON'T GET THE WARNING DURING THE SUMMER ONLY WINTER WITH THE HEATER, FORD SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THIS WHEN THEY FOUND A LEAKING HOSE $812 DOLLARS LATER STILL HAVE TO ADD COOLANT AND STILL STALLING OUT ON ME. I MENTIONED THE RECALL AND THEY TOLD ME MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. FORD MENTIONED NEW SPARK PLUGS AND AIR FILTER, THE ONLY THING IS I AM NOT GETTING CHECK ENGINE CODE OR LIGHT, JUST STOPS . TALKED WITH NUMEROUS MECHANICS AND THEY ALL SAY IF IT WAS SPARK PLUGS ETC, I WOULD GET A MISFIRE CODE OF SOME KING. CHANGED THE AIR FILTER WHICH IT WAS LONG SINCE I DONE THIS. LOOKING INTO GETTING SPARK PLUGS CHANGED BUT DON'T THINK THAT'S THE PROBLEM SINCE I AM NOT GETTING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THINK SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG

TAKATA RECALL: WHILE MY VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE HEAT IS COMING OUT NORMAL BUT WILL START TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING BUT AS I SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR STARTS BLOWING VERY COOL THEN THE TEMPATURE GAGE MOVES TO H THEN THE SAFETY LIGHT POPS ON SHOWING "OVERHEATING STOP SAFELY" BUT THE CAR WILL NEVER SHOW ANY SMOKING FROM THE HOOD. THE CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST MONTH UNTIL 12/17/2018 I STARTED THE CAR UP TO WARM IT BEFORE I LEFT WORK, AND IT WOULDN'T DEFROST AND IMMEDIATELY THE TEMPERATURE GAGE MOVED TO H AND ON THE DASH IT SAID OVERHEATING STOP SAFELY AND THE CAR WASN'T IN MOTION NEITHER HAD IT WARMED UP PROPERLY BUT WHEN THE LIGHT WENT OFF I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE , AS I APPROACHED MY DESTINATION THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN ON ITS OWN AND THE SAFETY LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN THAT'S WHEN THE BURNING SMELL STARTED GETTING STRONGER AND IT WOULDN'T LET ME GIVE THE CAR GAS TO GO THE ODOMETER WOULDN'T MOVE PASS 5MILES SO I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHUT IT OFF, BUT THEN WHEN I STARTED IT UP AGAIN BEFORE WORK THE CAR WOULD ALLOW ME TO SHIFT GEARS BUT NOT GIVE IT GAS DUE TO THE CAR SAYING IT'S IS OVERHEATING BUT THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD A LEAK AND HAS NOT PHYSICALLY SHOWED LEAKING ON TO THE GROUND I HAVE HAD OIL AND FLUIDS CHANGED BY PROFESSIONALS AND AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIPS LIKE VALVOLINE AND WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND NOTHING WAS EVER REPORTED TO ME OF A LEAK ANY WHERE BUT SOMEHOW MY COOLANT RESERVOIR IS STAYING EMPTY AFTER BEING REFILLED. I BELIEVE THE ONLY PLACE THE FLUID COULD BE LEAKING IS WITHIN THE MOTOR BECAUSE I HAVE PARKED THE CAR IN SEVERAL DRY SPOT AND IT SHOWED ABSOLUTELY NO LEAKING SIGNS.

THE CAR HESITATE OR THE ENGINE STALL SOON AFTER STARTING, IF YOU DON'T DRIVE OFF IMMEDIATELY THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF AND HAS TO BE RESTARTED. THIS HAPPENS ON COLD STARTS BUT MOSTLY AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING.

CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING. NEVER HAPPENS WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. DRIVE THE CAR, TURN OFF WHILE IN A STORE. THEN I RESTART THE CAR, STARTS NORMAL, THEN START DRIVING AGAIN AND IT STALLS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. AFTER IT STALLS, I PULL OFF THE ROAD IF POSSIBLE, THEN TURN THE KEY OFF, AND BACK ON. IT STARTS UP NORMAL AGAIN AND THEN NO MORE STALLING ISSUE - UNTIL I STOP AT ANOTHER STORE, AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN, AND AGAIN... ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR FOR 5-30 MINUTES, AND THEN TRY TO START DRIVING AGAIN THERE IS A SERIOUS RISK OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT!! WHEN THE CAR JUST DIES WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY, AND YOU HAVE TO TRY TO PULL OFF THE ROAD - SERIOUS RISK OF HAVING A BAD ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO, AND IS GETTING WORSE. HAPPENS EVERY DAY NOW!

TWO ISSUES ' SOMETIMES ONE WOULD FOLLOW THE OTHER. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 94,000 MILES ON IT. AUTO LOSES COOLANT FREQUENTLY WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE LEAKS. HAVE TO REPLACE/ADD COOLANT EVERY COUPLE WEEKS, SOMETIMES MORE FREQUENTLY. VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY LOW COOLANT SIGN AND WITHIN MINUTES THE "HIGH TEMPERATURE, PLEASE PULL OVER SAFELY" SIGN WOULD SHOW AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD RISE TO THE TOP AND CAR WOULD GO INTO LIMP MODE. ISSUE HAPPENED IN DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS - TWICE ON HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS HAD THERE BEEN A CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. TWO LOCAL AUTO SHOPS POINTED OUT SAME RECALLS/TSB'S AND SAID THE CAR SHOULD BE TAKEN TO DEALER. I TOOK MY CAR TO TWO DEALERS AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND COULD GIVE ME NO VALID SOLUTION TO MY ISSUE. (EVENTUALLY ONE DEALER SAID I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND BLOWN ENGINE AND THAT THE CAR WAS UNDRIVABLE AND WANTED $6500 TO REPLACE THEM ' SO WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP AND THEY SAID THE GASKET/ENGINE WERE JUST FINE.).

COOLANT LEAKING FROM UNKNOWN LOCATION WITH NO DAMPNESS OR RESIDUE FOUND. LOW COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR IS THE ONLY INDICATOR OF LOSS.
Engine, Dec 9, 2018, fire
LEAKING COOLANT ON THE ENGINE STARTED A FIRE. THE DEALERSHIP WANT TO CHARGE ME OVER $9,000 TO FIX IT BUT THE TRADE IN VALUE IS ONLY $9-10,000. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND STARTED SMELLING ANTIFREEZE. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ONLY MOVED A BIT, BUT THEN IT CAUGHT FIRE.

AUTO LOSES COOLANT FREQUENTLY WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE LEAKS. HAVE TO REPLACE/ADD COOLANT EVERY 50 TO 100 MILES DRIVEN. WHEN COOLANT IS LOW, THE CAR REQUIRES PULLING OVER UNTIL COOLANT IS ADDED. I'VE OWNED THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS, IT HAS 117,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS PROBLEM HAS RECURRED, EXPECIALLY IN THE WINTER, EVERY YEAR SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR. COOLANT LEAKAGE SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN I USE THE AUTO STARTER TO WARM UP THE CAR BEFORE DRIVING.

VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY "HIGH TEMPERATURE, PLEASE STOP" AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD RISE TO THE TOP WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF DRIVING. AFTER DISPLAYING MESSAGE, ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER AND VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ON DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS. COOLANT LEVELS ARE AT CORRECT LEVEL. AFTER SHOUTING DOWN THE ENGINE, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD GO BACK TO THE MIDDLE. THIS BECAME MORE FREQUENT, AND AS OF DECEMBER 6, 2018 THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WITHOUT THIS MESSAGE AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP.

2013 FORD ESCAPE SE. CONSISTENT LOW COOLANT WARNINGS IN THE WINTER. NEEDS COOLANT ADDED EVERY 4-5 WEEKS IN COLDER MONTHS. NEITHER FORD SERVICE DEPT OF MY PERSONAL MECHANIC HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE THE ISSUE. HAS TWICE OVERHEATED AFTER BEING DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE; LOW COOLANT LIGHT DISPLAYS AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY OVERHEATS AND GOES INTO LIMP MODE. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 57,700

VEHICLE WAS ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO A FREEWAY, SPEEDING UP, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED AROUND 30 MPH. IT TOOK AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR IT TO GET UP TO A SAFE MERGING SPEED, BUT I COULD HAVE DIED TRYING TO MERGE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE POWER TRAIN ON THIS CAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE ENGINE COOLANT LOW WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO APPLE FORD LINCOLN OF YORK (1801 WHITEFORD RD, YORK, PA 17402, (717) 755-2911) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM BEHIND THE ENGINE AND THAT A HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

MY INFO LIGHT CAME ON IN CAR SAYING MY ENGINE COOLANT WAS LOW. I FILLED IT 10 DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC BECAUSE THERE WERE NO LEAKS UNDER MY CAR SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THE COOLANT COULD BE GOING TO. THE MECHANIC PRINTED OUT A RECALL SHEET FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM AND TOLE ME I SHOULD CALL THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER. I CALLED AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THAT PROBLEM. THE RECALL COVERS MY CAR MODEL, ENGINE SIZE, AND MANUFACTURED DATE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING AS THE SERVICE CENTER. THE FIRST RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T INCLUDE MY CARS MANUFACTURED DATE, BUT 3 MONTHS LATER THE RECALL WAS UPDATED TO INCLUDE MORE CARS AND MY MANUFACTURED DATE WAS THEN INCLUDED.

DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING IN A 40 MPH ZONE, ABOUT 1.5 MILES, WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAD SHOT UP TO H FOR HOT. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN, REGARDLESS OF PRESSING THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF A US HIGHWAY AND FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PARK JUST A SHORT DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER.
