Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  2. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, floor shiftJul 16, 2018

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S20. Note: Owners are directed to use the parking brake until the recall remedy repairs can be made.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Escape vehicles manufactured October 5, 2011, through April 10, 2014. Due to an assembly misalignment between the exterior door handle and the door outer panel, the affected vehicles have doors that may be difficult to close or may possibly open while driving.

A door that opens unexpectedly may result in an unrestrained occupant falling from the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the mounting of the door handles, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S03.

  15. Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012

This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.

If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicle’s hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicle’s powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through August 31, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. The cylinder head cup plug (freeze plug) may become dislodged resulting in significant loss of engine coolant.

As leaking engine coolant evaporates on the hot engine, the glycol may ignite causing an engine compartment fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will seal the existing plug and add a secondary plug cover, free of charge. The safety recall began on September 11, 2012. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

2013 FORD ESCAPE AS I BACK OUT OF PARKING LOT, CAR DIES, ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OIL LIGHT APPEARS ALSO. CAR ALSO SHUT DOWN AT BUSY INTERSECTION. TOOK CAR INTO DEALERSHIP NEXT MORNING, STARTED CAR UP AND IT DIED, DID THIS 3 TIMES AND THE FORD SERVICE MAN WITNESSED THIS. THEY HAVE HAD CAR 4 DAYS IN THE SHOP. SHOP FOREMAN HAS DRIVEN CAR HOME TO SEE IF IT CAN BE DUPLICATED AND CAN NOT. THEY SAY WHEN THEY HOOK UP TO COMPUTER NO PROBLEMS REGISTER. THEY JUST CALLED AND SAID I HAVE TO PICK UP THE CAR TODAY, THEY CAN'T KEEP IT ANY LONGER. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, TO BRING IT IN. VERY FRUSTRATED. HOPE I DON'T GET HIT AND INJURED!! *TR

  2. Steering, May 22, 2014

WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON MAY 21, 2014 I SUDDENLY HEARD A CHIME AND A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER ALERTING OF A "STEERING ASSIST FAULT". OUR FORD IS EQUIPPED WITH THE AUTOMATIC PARKING STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM. I THEN FELT THE STEERING LOCK UP AND DRAMATICALLY REDUCE THE ABILITY FOR ME TO STEER THE VEHICLE FROM ONE LANE TO THE OTHER ON THE STRAIGHT AWAY THAT I WAS PRESENTLY ON. THE SENSATION WAS THAT OF TRYING TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING AND FEEDBACK. AFTER APPROXIMATELY A QUARTER MILE OF EVALUATING THE VEHICLE, I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THUS REGAINING NORMAL CONTROL WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT, AND PROCEEDED TO DELIVER THE VEHICLE FOR EVALUATION. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT LINDSAY FORD IN SILVER SPRING, MD NOW AND WILL BE EVALUATED 5/22/14. THIS IS AT LEAST THE THIRD TIME I HAVE SEEN THIS FAULT MESSAGE, HOWEVER IT WOULD APPEAR WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE BUT NEVER ELIMINATE STEERING ABILITY. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE TO BE A LEMON IN THE EYES OF THE LAW, I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED A BUY BACK FROM FORD BASED ON DISMAL FUEL PERFORMANCE AND OTHER UNRELATED MATTERS. FORD HAS NEGLECTED TO FULLY RESOLVE THOSE MATTERS, AND WITH THIS INCIDENT ON HAND, I AM REQUESTING ANY ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE THAT I OWN A SAFE VEHICLE, BECAUSE MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH FORD HAS BEEN UNACCEPTABLE. *TR

  3. Power train, Engine, May 21, 2014

VEHICLE STARTED WITH WARNING 'ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW'. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND MESSAGE WAS GONE. LATER THAT DAY WHILE DRIVING WE NOTICED SEVERE JERKING OF THE VEHICLE WHILE CHANGING SPEEDS AND NOTICED THE ENGINE FAULT WARNING WAS DISPLAYED. PULLED VEHICLE OVER. RESTARTED AND THE WARNING WAS GONE. BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR OVER 2 DAYS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE ERROR AND THEREFORE UNABLE TO FIX ANYTHING. MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM STARTED RECURRING AGAIN WHILE REDUCING SPEED ON A HIGHWAY EXIT RESULTING IN EXTREME VEHICLE JERKING AS IF TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING, AT THIS TIME WE NOTICED THE ENGINE FAULT WARNING HAD REAPPEARED. CONTACTED FORD SERVICE CENTER AND THEY WILL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK, BUT WITHOUT A RECALL THERE WILL BE NOTHING THAT CAN DO. WITH SO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IT IS ASTONISHING THAT THIS IS NOT A KNOWN RESOLVABLE ISSUE FOR FORD. *TR

  4. Steering, May 20, 2014, crash

DRIVER WAS PROCEEDING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT SEVERAL PARKED VEHICLES. THE DRIVER COMPLAINED THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL THE SECONDS PRIOR TO IMPACT. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP BY THE TOW TRUCK AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS VISIBLE, THE POINT OF FAILURE WAS QUITE APPARENT. THE BALL JOINT REMAINED COMPLETELY INTACT WHILE THE STEERING KNUCKLE VISIBLY BROKE AT THE POINT WHERE IT MEETS THE BALL JOINT. EVERY OTHER ITEM UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS VISIBLY RIPPED OR BENT EXCEPT THE STEERING KNUCKLE. IT APPEARS AS IF THE STEERING KNUCKLE MATERIAL IS NOT THICK ENOUGH FOR A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT. AT THE POINT OF FAILURE, THE METAL IS APPROXIMATELY 5/16" THICK. *TR

THE CAR STALLS INTERMITTENTLY. THE FIRST TIME 3/11/2014 WAS THE DAY FOLLOWING MY SERVICE FOR OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM MY HOUSE AND THE CAR JUST STALLED. I PUT IT INTO PARK AND THE CAR RESTARTED. THE NEXT TIME WAS 3/17/2014, AGAIN I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM MY HOUSE AND THE CAR STALLED, STARTED BEEPING AND A SERVICE ENGINE NOW LIGHT CAME ON. I RESTARTED THE CAR, PARKED AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. A TOWING COMPANY PICKED UP THE CAR AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT NOTHING SHOWED UP IN THE MEMORY AND THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WASN'T HAPPENING FOR THEM. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE I PICKED IT UP. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER THE CAR STALLED AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY ON RAMP. I TRIED TO CALL THE DEALER BUT THE PHONE WOULD NOT WORK. FORD TOOK THE CAR AGAIN AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING IN THE MEMORY. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE GETTING ONTO THE FREEWAY. IN ADDITION TO THE STALLING PROBLEM, THE SYNC SYSTEM HAS RESET ITSELF, THE COMPASSES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, THE EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOESN'T WORK ALL THE TIME AND NOW THE PHONE RANDOMLY STARTS CALLING PEOPLE. I WAS GIVEN A PHONE NUMBER FOR CORPORATE BY THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED AND AFTER PLAYING PHONE TAG FOR SEVERAL DAYS THE REPRESENTATIVE (JOSHUA) TOLD ME THAT IF IT STALLS AGAIN THAT I SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE CAR AND I NEED TO CALL THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE NUMBER AND WAIT FOR THEM TO COME. IN ADDITION, HE SAID UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THEY ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE CAR BECAUSE IF THEY DO IT WILL RESET THE MEMORY AND FORD CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I ASKED ABOUT THE RECALLS ON MY CAR AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NONE; HOWEVER, I WAS ON THE WEBSITE AND THERE ARE 2. I ASKED WHY FORD DID NOT SEND ME A RECALL NOTICE AND HE TOLD ME THAT FORD DOESN'T DO THAT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. ITS BEEN TO FORD 7 TIMES NOW. HELP! *JS

I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND BECAUSE IT WAS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND UNSAFE TO TAKE EYES OFF THE ROAD. TOLD BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. (INSTANT FUEL ECONOMY) WAS NOT A DISPLAY BEFORE THE RECALL AND PREVIOUS READINGS WERE MORE DRIVER FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A CLANKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OBSERVED THE FRONT TIRES WERE BENT OUTWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE UNDER PAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V165000(STRUCTURE, FRAME AND MEMBERS); HOWEVER, IT DID NOT COMPLETELY REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

  14. Air bags, May 8, 2014

THE AIR BAG CONTROLLER ON OUR 10-MONTH-OLD 2013 FORD ESCAPE, PURCHASED NEW ON JULY 4, 2013, HAS FAILED. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON CONSTANTLY. THIS IS THE 3RD MAJOR PROBLEM WE HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE 13S12 FIRE SAFETY RECALL, WHICH ALSO AFFECTED IT. SO, OUT OF THE BLUE, THE AIR BAG STOPPED WORKING ON A NEARLY NEW VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE RCM MODULE (RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE) HAD FAILED AND REPLACED IT. SINCE THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM THE BEGINNING, I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE AIR BAG CONTROLLER MODULE FAILURE. I WAS TOLD "NO, IT IS LIKELY A 1-IN-1000 TYPE OF FAILURE [SIC]". I SUSPECT OTHERWISE. UNFORTUNATELY, WITH THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAN EITHER FAIL TO LIGHT, FLASH OR COME ON CONSTANTLY. OURS DID NOT FLASH, AND IS AMBER, SO WE DROVE IT FOR A WEEK BEFORE WE NOTICED THE LIGHT WAS ON. HOWEVER, A PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE RCM MODULE AT 10 MONTHS OF AGE AND 8600 MILES IS INDICATIVE TO ME OF ANOTHER POTENTIAL RECALL ISSUE. I AM ASKING THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATE FURTHER TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF AIR BAG RCM MODULE FAILURES ON THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THIS IS, IN MY OPINION, A MAJOR LIFE SAFETY HAZARD. I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO THE NHTSA STAFF FOR THE EXCELLENT WORK THEY DO TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM SAFETY ISSUES WITH AUTOMOBILES, SUCH AS THE 13S12 FORD ESCAPE RECALL, THE REPAIRS FOR WHICH WERE JUST COMPLETED ON OUR CAR. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO TO KEEP CONSUMERS SAFE! *TR

2013 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO "ENGINE FAULT- SERVICE NOW" WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASH WHEN STARTING VEHICLE. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST ENGINE FAULT LIGHT HAPPENED IN OCTOBER 2013. HE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RE-STARTED IT AGAIN, AND THE LIGHT DIDN'T COME BACK ON. THE SECOND FAULT OCCURRENCE AS HE WAS LEAVING THE HOUSE IN MID-FEBRUARY. THE VEHICLE MOVED VERY SLUGGISHLY AND DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE GETTING ANY POWER. ON MARCH 15, 2014, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER. THE ONLY MESSAGE THAT DISPLAYED SAID TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIDN'T REVEAL ANY PROBLEMS. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 2 WEEKS, WITH NO SUCCESS IN FINDING A PROBLEM. THE NEXT MORNING, THE ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NO ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH. WHEN HIS WIFE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AWAY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SHARPLY AND TOOK OFF DOWN THE ROAD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, LEAVING HER WITH NO CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATION OR SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND ON THE WAY THERE, IT REPEATEDLY SPUTTERED AND THEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LUNGED FORWARD ALL THE WAY TO DEALER. EVEN THE ENGINE FAULT CODE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO GET AN ERROR CODE ON THE COMPUTER. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE CONSUMER, AND IT WAS THEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED EVERYTHING THE CONSUMER WAS REFERRING TO. WHEN THEY RETURNED, THE MECHANIC, HOOKED THE COMPUTER BACK TO THE VEHICLE, AND AN ERROR SHOWED A HARNESS ISSUE, WHICH WAS RELATED TO A WIRE SPLICING INTO TWO WIRES, WHICH SOMEHOW BECAME TANGLED DURING ASSEMBLY. *JB

*1:THE FIRST TIME EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM, I WAS DRIVING A STRETCH OF LEVEL ROAD, APPROX 40 MPH, AND HEARD A POP SOUND, I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD IF NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON .. NOT TO WORRY AND JUST LET THEM KNOW IF THE LIGHT COMES ON. IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE. I ALREADY HAD VERY LOW GAS MILEAGE, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT I NEEDED TO GIVE IT 5-10K MILES TO BREAK IN"... HOWEVER, I SOON NOTICED A DROP IN MILES AFTER POP, BUT WAS CONTINUED TO BE TOLD TO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT.. "NEEDS 5-10K MILES TO BREAK IN" THEN TOLD "IT'S A BIG ENGINE, IT NEEDS UP TO 20K MILES TO BRAKE IN", ETC...). I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES TO BE CHECKED AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE MILEAGE CONTINUES TO BE EXTREMELY POOR (CURRENTLY 11.4-15MPG IN CITY AND HWY... ON A REALLY LONG STRAIGHT NON-STOP DRIVE I MIGHT PEAK AT 21MPG- THIS CAR IS SUPPOSE TO GET 22 CITY AND 30 HIGHWAY). LAST YEAR I SPOKE WITH REGIONAL REP AT FORD WHO CONCURRED THAT THE MILEAGE WAS BAD AND SAID THEY WOULD FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND FIX IT. NO FOLLOW THROUGH ON THEIR PART. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT RESULTED IN NO CALL BACK. **2: THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE LACK OF PICK UP POWER. THERE IS A DELAY THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME.... AS I HAVE HAD NEAR MISSES AS NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A MERGING TRUCK... BECAUSE THE CAR HESITATES BRIEFLY WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE GAS... THEN LURCHES FORWARD. I GOT THE LARGER ENGINE (2.0L 14 GTDI TITANIUM ECO BOOST) BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I HAD ENOUGH POWER TO MOVE WHEN I NEED TO. THIS HESITATION HAPPENS A LOT. BUT AGAIN, THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT SAY THAT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT, NOR FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE DELAY IS JUST THE WAY ALL THE NEW CARS ARE NOW BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL GOES THROUGH A RELAY SYSTEM NOW, NOT DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE FUEL. *TR

WHEN I BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR FOR A RED-LIGHT STOP THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN BEFORE THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE 4/20 WEEK. FORD SERVICE COULDN'T FIND WHAT'S WRONG BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T "REPRODUCE" THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE IS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE AIRBAG-OFF WARNING SIGN ALWAYS LIT UP RANDOMLY WHEN MY SON SITS IN THAT SEAT. MY SON IS SLIGHTLY OVER 100 LBS. FORD PEOPLE SAID HE HAS TO SIT STRAIGHT UP, WHICH I THINK IS RIDICULOUS AND OUTRAGEOUS. *TR

  18. Engine, Apr 29, 2014

ONE DAY WHEN I STARTED MY CAR IT CAME UP WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "ENGINE FAULT, SERVICE VEHICLE NOW!". I GOT A FRIGHT, RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS GONE AND I COULD DRIVE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY THE MESSAGE CAME UP AGAIN, I TRIED TO DRIVE IT AND IT WAS CLUNKY AND WOULDN'T GO PAST FIRST GEAR. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WORKED FINE AGAIN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY SO I TOOK IT INTO THE SERVICE CENTER. THE SERVICE CENTER WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG IN THE CAR. THEY LOOKED INTO THE CAR COMPUTER'S LOGS AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING THERE EITHER. SINCE THEN THE PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED 9-10 TIMES AND IT IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE WHEN THE CAR IS REPORTING THE ERROR. WE CANNOT DRIVE IT WHILE THE ERROR IS ON AND THE DEALERSHIP SAY THEY CANNOT FIX IT UNLESS THE ERROR IS SHOWING. *JS

I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW NOV. 2012 AND IT HAD 200 MILES ON IT. FROM ABOUT MAR/APRIL 2013 I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF THAT THEY CAN NOT SEEM TO FIX. WHEN I START THE CAR OR ITS ALREADY RUNNING AND I START TO DRIVE THE "ENGINE FAULT, SERVICE NOW" COMES UP AND THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE UNTIL ITS SHUT OFF AND RE-STARTED AGAIN, AT WHICH POINT ITS A 50/50 CHANCE OF WORKING RIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR AS WELL AS WHEN IM DRIVING IT WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE AND NOT GET ABOVE FIRST GEAR AND IT SPUTTERS TO A STOP. I HAVE HAD MY ENGINE SENSORS CHANGED TWICE BECAUSE THEY KEPT BLOWING OUT. THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. *TT

I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2012, I HAD THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS RECALLED AND SAT AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 17 DAYS. I HAVE HAD 2 MORE RECALLS FOR THE SAME ISSUE (FIRE FROM FUEL SYSTEM) AND NOW HAVING A RECENT RECALL THAT STATES I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR- I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX MY CAR FOR 3 WEEKS. *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, SMALL FLAMES EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF THE EXACT REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V583000 (ENGINE). I WAS ~350 MILES FROM HOME IN N. MINNESOTA ON 2/7/2013 AND WAS ACCELERATING FROM ~30 MPH TO 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND LOOSE POWER. A DEFAULT MESSAGE APPEARED ON DRIVER'S INFORMATION DISPLAY FOLLOWED BY AN OK MESSAGE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHAKE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST ~5MPH. I PULLED INTO A LOCAL BUSINESS PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I THEN ADDED A BOTTLE OF GAS LINE ANTIFREEZE BELIEVING THERE WAS A FUEL PROBLEM SINCE THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE WAS EXTREMELY COLD (-20 F TO ?? 30F) AND I HAD REFUEL ~75 MILES BEFORE. AFTER THE ADDITION OF A BOTTLE OF FUEL LINE ANTIFREEZE I IMMEDIATELY STARTED THE ENGINE. I PROCEEDED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT FIND AN ERROR CODE. THE VEHICLE PERFORMED NORMALLY UNTIL THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED MARCH 30TH AT ~ 19,500 MILES (AGAIN IN N. MN). A DEFAULT MESSAGE RE-APPEARED ON DRIVER'S INFORMATION DISPLAY FOLLOWED BY AN OK MESSAGE. AFTER PULLING OVER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED IT. THE ENGINE HAS PERFORMED AS NORMAL SINCE THE SECOND INCIDENT. AFTER RETURN TO MY HOME I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT CONSULTED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR A SERVICE RECOMMENDATION. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ON 3/9/2014 PER FORD'S RECOMMENDATION AT ~ 20,000. AGAIN THERE WAS NO ERROR MESSAGE STORED ON THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. *TR
