Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  2. Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. On 06/21/2022 I took my 2013 Ford Escape to a Ford dealer because my check engine light was on. I was informed that a Evap Tube was needed and the part was ordered. A few weeks later I checked with the dealer and was told the part was on back order. 08/01 I checked again and was told that there were 3,000 people waiting for the part and there was no estimate on when it would arrive. Whenever I start the engine after getting gas the engine does not start right away. It takes several times to start. I am always worried that the engine will not start or there could be a fire.

  7. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 3, 2022

I purchased my 2013 ford escape vehical in febuary 2022 from a local transmission shop, so iv've had it for a good 7 months and its has been nothing but problem after problem with this vehical, the first issue i noticed was the brake fluid leak and i was having to coonstatly refil it until i was able to pay someone to repair it for me. Also My coolant is needing to be filled up about every 2 weeks, and i have to constantly check it just to be sure because sometimes the light wont even pop up. The most recent issue that im having is a huge fuel leak, it just started about 4 days ago and its spraying out of a metal fule line by the engine, after doing some research its a recall for the year and make of my vehical, i called ford in to get information on what i could do and they bassicallly said they wouldnt repair it since my vin number is not linked with that specific recal. I'm a single mother of a 2 year old and this is my only source of transportation, i do not have the funds to repair this and i do believe alot of the issues are recalls and should be fixed and covered by ford.

The contact pulled over and checked the coolant reservoir which indicated that the coolant was low. The contact attempted to resume normal driving; however, the temperature gauge indicated that the vehicle was hot as the vehicle began to stall. An engine warning message appeared on the instrument panel as the contact pulled over. The contact walked to the nearest store to purchase coolant and replenished the reservoir; however, the stalling continued as the check engine warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact was able to reach his destination despite the many engine stalls and vehicle restarts. The contact continued driving the vehicle; however, he noticed that coolant had started to leak from the engine. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

  10. Engine, Jul 29, 2022

This was taken to Kendall Ford of Anchorage. The check engine light come on and start running bad. I immediately took it into the dealership they said I just needed new spark plugs and turn up. But in the note it says there was leaking out of cylinder two and three. No recommendations were given to me. They change the spark plugs and gave it back. Then again it started running bad April 2022. I took back to the dealership in April 2022 and they said it was misfiring but no longer was. I took it back to the dealership again when coolant light started coming on. They gave it back to me and said nothing was wrong. Now because of the leak into the cylinders it’s started overheating due to an internal coolant / antifreeze leak that allows coolant to enter into the cylinders of the engine. The dealership is now stating the engine is flooded with coolant which caused total engine failure and now require replacement of the engine block. My car only has 52,000 miles.

  18. Other or unspecified, Jul 26, 2022

My shifter cable was broken first in May 2022 because I switched to park and my vehicle kept rolling.I called the ford Dealership after reading about a recall on shift cables For 2013 Ford escapes and was told my vehicle didn’t fall under the recall. I had it repaired elsewhere. In July 2022 I had the same issue (attempted to put vehicle in park and it was still in drive) contacted Ford and was told the same thing and had it repaired elsewhere since the price quotes elsewhere was about 300 less that what Ford quoted me but not even a week after having my vehicle repaired I get a letter in the mail confirming that my vehicle does fall under the recall. I have paid almost 1,000 out of pocket to repair this issue because Ford lied to me.

  19. Steering, Power train, Seat belts, Jul 25, 2022

Puting car into reverse on 2way road to turn around car wouldn't go in reverse or forwards car shut off. Had to keep brake on kept shifting back and forth till car turned on had traffic stopped both ways. Seatbelt released not working at all. If car would of gone forwards upon started would of gone over cliff. This happened about 2nd week in July. Currently car has trouble upon driving shifting into gear. Please advise. Dangerous

  20. Other or unspecified, Jul 21, 2022

On 7/20/22 11:50pm I was driving on the highway about 45 miles per hour when without warning or indication my hood flew open and slammed against the windshield causing me to lose sight of anything in front of me. Because I was not traveling at such a high rate of speed I did not strike any vehicle in front of me and avoided hitting concrete barriers but several vehicles behind me nearly struck me because the incident took place on a curve and I was in a blind spot. This could have turned out very bad for myself and other, I was TERRIFIED. It was late and dark and have to carefully shift through three lanes on the highway to get myself into a safe spot off the side of the road. This incident has not been confirmed to my knowledge by any dealer, nor has the component been inspected by anyone as of yet. I will say as soon I had the vehicle towed and secured, I attempted t contact my insurance with no luck during the midnight hour. I did a GOGGLE research and found that this incident has happened to several Ford vehicles over the past years as far back as 10 years to current date and I'm confused as to why this was not a safety recall issue. I could have been seriously injured and died.

  23. Engine, Jul 19, 2022

We were experiencing the engine cutting out and dying very rarely for about 2 years. One day while driving the vehicle, I hit the accelerator and the car started to engage the drive train, but then cut out and died. I was able to restart the vehicle and put it into drive. It would accelerate but once it got to the correct RPM and tried to shift the engine would cut out again. Ford said that it was a transmission failure and because it wasn't under warranty it was our responsibility to replace it at our cost if we decided to do the repair. Now a year later, the exact issue that we were experiencing is beginning with the replacement transmission. If this is a recall is it the responsibility of Ford to reimburse me the cost of replacing the transmission and complete the recall repair for the transmission that they put in.
