Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

Power train, automatic transmission, gear position indication (prndl)Jun 10, 2022
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Power train, automatic transmission, lever and linkage, floor shiftJul 16, 2018
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S20. Note: Owners are directed to use the parking brake until the recall remedy repairs can be made.

Engine and engine coolingDec 3, 2012
This is an update to a recently announced recall. Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines, as well as certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. Coolant system leaks may cause the engines to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids.
If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicles hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicles powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy. Owners will be shortly receiving notifications to contact Ford dealers to schedule the free remedy repair. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through August 31, 2012, equipped with 1.6L engines. The cylinder head cup plug (freeze plug) may become dislodged resulting in significant loss of engine coolant.
As leaking engine coolant evaporates on the hot engine, the glycol may ignite causing an engine compartment fire.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will seal the existing plug and add a secondary plug cover, free of charge. The safety recall began on September 11, 2012. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. FORD SAYS NO RECALL. OUR CONCERN IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SO FAR THIS HAS HAPPENED IN A STATIONARY POSITION. WORRIED IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING.

THE MYFORDTOUCH SYSTEM WILL SPORADICALLY SHUT DOWN. AT TIMES THIS SHUT DOWN IS EVIDENCED BY A LOUD POP THROUGH THE AUDIO SPEAKERS, THEN THE AUDIO GOES OUT AND THE BLUETOOTH PHONE CONNECTION RESETS. OFTEN IT WILL DISPLAY AN ERROR SCREEN SAYING "SHUTTING DOWN TO SAVE BATTERY" WITH A PROGRESS BAR. THAT PROGRESS BAR NEVER FINISHES TO THE RIGHT BEFORE THE SYSTEM RESTARTS. THIS WILL HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES DURING A TRIP, WITH NO SIMILAR CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN TRIPS WHERE THIS ISSUE OCCURS (DAY/NIGHT, HIGHWAY/CITY, WARM/COLD, DRIVING OR STOPPED, NONE OF IT MATTERS) AND I CAN'T RECREATE IT ON DEMAND. IT WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY AND THEN NOT FOR A WEEK OR TWO. THE LACK OF ABILITY TO RECREATE MEANS THAT THE FORD DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR IT. THE FORD SERVICE REP SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE BATTERY AND ON HIS ADVICE I DID. HOWEVER, THIS NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. HE TESTED THE ALTERNATOR, AND CHECKED FOR ERROR CODES ALL WITH NO CHANGE IN THE SITUATION. ULTIMATELY IT HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR SERVICE, WITH NO RESOLUTION. I HAVE VIDEO OF IT OCCURRING ON 11/6/2016. IT HAS HAPPENED AS FAR BACK AS JULY 2016. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS TODAY, 11/10/2016 DATE ENTERED IN FIELD BELOW IS LAST TIME IT HAPPENED.

I HAD GOTTEN INTO MY VEHICLE AND AFTER TURNING IT ON I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE. MY VEHICLE FOR THE SECOND TIME STARTED TO OVER HEAT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS STATING THAT I NEED TO REFILL THE COOLANT. I JUST PARKED IT AND THE NEXT DAY WE HAD FILLED THE COOLANT AGAIN TAKEN IT TO GET THE ERROR CODES CHECKED AND WERE INFORMED WE NEED TO GET A NEW THERMOSTAT. WHEN TAKING IT TO THE MECHANICS THEY HAD TRIED EVERYTHING FROM CHECKING CODES TO DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET THE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO RE-CREATE THE CODES. THEY HAD INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD, HOWEVER WHEN CONTACTING FORD THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I CHECKED ONLINE AND SEE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS, BUT MY VIN EVEN THOUGH HAVING THE QUALIFYING MANUFACTURING DATE IS NOT ELIGIBLE. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND HAVE HAD IT SHUT DOWN ON ME, NOT HAVE ANY POWER, START TO PUT AND STALL, REFILLING COOLANT EVERY SO OFTEN, OVER HEAT, AND I CAN NEVER GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE CALLED FOR INFORMATION IN REGARDS TO RECALLS AND THESE ISSUES AND AM TRANSFERRED TO A PERSON WHO IS NOT THERE SO I CAN LEAVE A VOICE MAIL. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CALL RETURNED. I PURCHASED MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE JULY 2015 AND FOR THE YEAR I HAD IT I WAS FAIRLY PLEASED. I HAD HEARD THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THESE CARS CATCHING FIRE AND WAS AWARE OF THE RECALLS. I HAD BEEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP BACK IN JUNE FOR A TUNE-UP AND ASSURED ALL RECALLS HAD BEEN DONE ON THE VEHICLE, I HAD BOUGHT IT USED BUT FORD WAS ABLE TO SEARCH THE INFORMATION FROM THE VIN, OR SO THEY SAID. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23RD I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, ON THE I-5 NORTH FAST LANE, WHEN THE CAR HAD A WARNING LIGHT SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT MY 4WHEEL DRIVE. THE CAR BEGAN TO LURCH AND SMOKE BEGAN TO COME UP FROM RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER, THANKFULLY WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, I COULD SEE THE SMOKE REPLACED WITH FLAMES AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT ON THE DASH. I GRABBED WHAT I COULD AND MY DOG AND CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO GET TO US THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. ALTHOUGH PERSONAL ITEMS, AND MY FIRST CAR I PURCHASED ON MY OWN, WAS LOST MY DOG AND I MADE IT OUT ALIVE. AS THE PROCESS OF DEALING WITH INSURANCE BEGAN I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET FORDS ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER. I AM NOW THE 14TH PERSON THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. AFTER MORE DIGGING AND NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS ONLY A HANDFUL OF THEM TOLD ME TO GET THE CAR IN IMMEDIATELY TO A SHOP BECAUSE OF FIRE RISK. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE RECALLS HAD NOT BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE, AND ONE DEALERSHIP EVEN GAVE ME A SHOP NAME THAT THE RECALLS HAD SUPPOSEDLY BEEN DONE AT. I CALLED AND THE SHOP HAD NO RECORDS OF EVEN SEEING THE VEHICLE. I AM AWAITING A LETTER FROM FORDS LEGAL DEPARTMENT BUT THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT THERE. I STARTED MY CAR AND AS I PUT THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE IN REVERSE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE. KNOWING THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD SO MANY DANGEROUS ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH RECALLS IN THE PAST, I DECIDED NOT TO DRIVE IT ANY FURTHER. AS IT WAS STILL SAFELY IN MY DRIVEWAY, I PLACED IT IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF, AND OPTED TO USE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE ESCAPE SAT THERE UNDISTURBED FOR TWO DAYS. THEN, MY HUSBAND TRIED TO USE IT AND UPON STARTING HE NOTICED A WARNING IN THE DISPLAY THAT STATED STEERING ASSIST FAULT. HE OPTED NOT TO USE THE VEHICLE EITHER AS HE ALSO NOTICED THAT IT SEEMED AS IF THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. I HAVE A CALL INTO A LOCAL DEALER TO TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE, BUT SEE NO LOGICAL REASON FOR THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH STEERING. IT IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS 30K MILES. ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2016 AROUND 6:30PM, I STARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE STEERING WHEEL. NORMALLY THE STEERING WOULD COMEBACK AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE BUT NOT AT THAT TIME. I WAS RUNNING LATE AND DROPPED MY SON TO HIS ACTIVITY CLASS ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY MY HOME IN THE CITY AREA. THE POWER STEERING DID NOT COME BACK AT ANY TIME DURING THE TRIP THERE AND BACK. I COULD ONLY DRIVE SAFELY AT ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR, AND WHEN I NEEDED TO TURN, I HAD TO SLOW TO ABOUT 2 MILES PER HOUR IN ORDER TO MAKE THE TURN SAFELY. THIS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SO WHEN I GOT HOME, I ARRANGED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT THE FAILED POWER STEERING. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS BAD CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL OTHER YEARS WITH THE ESCAPE UP TO 2012. MY ESCAPE IS A 2013 MODEL AND SHOULD ALSO BE A RECALL ITEM. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS, AND IT WAS ONLY 65,000 MILES AT THE TIME. IT'S TRULY UPSETTING THAT IT IS GIVING ME THIS TYPE OF UNSAFE ISSUE AND ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY AND OTHERS WHO IS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. *TR
