  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. 1. Power train, Jul 21, 2023

Backing out of my garage and my car suddenly stopped, I put it in Drive and it went forward, then put it back in Reverse and it seemed ok. Went to 1 store and could not back up the car would not move. Again, put it in Drive then Reverse and it did back up but did not sound good. I slowly drove home, called my mechanic drove it 4 blocks to him and he concluded that it certainly was the the transmission. I had no warning lights or any or any other symptoms prior to this happening. My mechanic called the dealership where I had purchased the car because the mileage was so low, 40, 684, he was hoping that they would cover it, but was told my warranty ran out by 1 year, so I was out of luck. I also called the dealership and was told the same thing and they also said that "how do you know that it was the transmission?" That was really insulting. I also called Ford in Detroit and was told the same thing, not under warranty. I did some research, and have since learned, that Ford has known about the faulty 2014 Escape transmissions and has not not anything about it.

In March 2022, my ford escape transmission went out due to torque converter. It just broke down without any indict light warning. I paid almost 6K to have it replaced include all transmission programming, controller. In May 2023 and June 2023, my ford escape just quit for no reason without any warning. I tried to start it up, the dashboard of red battery and red oil light came on. I was stuck in traffic for over 4 hours with this problem. It put me in critical risk being injured or killed since I am deaf. It just shut off completely without any noise or foul smelling or any warning. 8. Power train, Air bags, Jun 10, 2023, fire

Unknown- I purchased my Car in 2021 and I’ve had ongoing transmission issues since I purchased it. As of now the issues have gotten worse. I had the transmission recall repair done, but it did not fix the jerking way my car was driving. The repairs keep getting more costly and I don’t believe there’s an actual fix, but rather that this vehicle was sold with a faulty transmission. As of now I can’t drive my vehicle because last month there was a fire under my hood and it’s totally unsafe for me and my family to be in. Ford won’t take any responsibility but they’ve already had to buy back vehicles for settling them with bad transmissions. This is not new for them.

  9. Steering, Power train, Electrical system, May 13, 2023

Amongst SEVERAL problems with this vehicle, it often slips out of gear while driving. Which has caused me to have to stop in the middle of the lane. It has had multiple mega fuses go out. It will often say “power steering fault” and then the message will go away. I am genuinely scared to drive this vehicle because I never know when the power system is going to go out. I have always stayed up to date on maintenance and it has less than 90k on miles. I do not understand why this has not been pulled off the market. It seems like all the escapes before mine were pulled for the same issues.

  10. Power train, Apr 20, 2023

Transmission failure. Problem confirmed by dealer and two other certified mechanics, in 2022 and 2023. No warning lights or messages given on dashboard. Technicians found codes when vehicle was scanned. Problem only become noticeable when driving vehicle by then it was to late. Transmission would not shift properly coming to stops and trying to accelerate after stops or very minimal speed slowing or accelerating. This occurred on interstate and local driving. First occurrence was December of 2021at around 68,000 to 70,000 miles. Had transmission repaired and was told by mechanic they were problematic and it was a design flaw. Dealer admitted to problematic issue also. Second occurrence was March of 2023 with 77,000. I am currently trying to decide what to do. It is currently available for inspection. I made a formal complaint against Ford to the BBB in 2021 about this issue and they would not offer any assistance. I will make another complaint as of April 2023. I will no longer buy any Ford products.

  11. Power train, Apr 20, 2023

I pulled into the parking lot of my employment. I put my vehicle in park. I went to turn the vehicle off and when I did the dash light came on saying it was not in park. It stated that it was in S. I do not use sport mode. I then called the local dealership. I learned it was a recall on the shifter bushing. They called a tow truck who came out and picked it up. The tow driver stated it was in fact the bushing was damaged/missing. He manually put it in the gears so that he could load it and took it to the dealership. They fixed the recall and are waiting to hear if the tow fee is covered under the recall so that I can go pick it up.

UNKNOWN SSM 48397 SSM 48397 - 2013-2015 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC - 1.6L GTDI, 1.5L GTDI, Or 2.0L GTDI With DTC P00C6, P0087, P008A, P008B, P018C, Or P018D - FLP Sensor Available Some 2013-2015 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC with a 1.6L GTDI, 1.5L GTDI, or 2.0L GTDI may exhibit a lack of power, loss of power, or stall when placed in gear with DTCs P00C6, P0087, P008A, P008B, P018C, or P018D. If normal diagnosis leads to a biased or failed Fuel Low Pressure (FLP) sensor, the sensor is available without the need to order the entire fuel line assembly. The FLP sensor, located on the fuel supply line to the high pressure pump, provides the low side fuel pressure input to the PCM so the Fuel Driver Module can be controlled accordingly. The FLP PID can be viewed in the Datalogger and then compared to a manual pressure gauge per pinpoint test HC in the PCED to validate the sensor is working properly. The Fusion/MKZ catalog has been updated to show the sensor availability.

The gear shifter bushing separated from the transmission and would not engage the transmission. The car, luckily, was in Park. There was a previous recall in 2018 that supposedly fixed this problem, but I now have the car at Ford trying to get the issue resolved. It appears this same problem is being discovered on later model Ford Escapes and other models. Here's an excerpt of the recall from the Ford site: DEARBORN, Mich., July 18, 2018 – Ford is issuing two safety recalls in North America. Details are: Select 2013-16 model year Ford Fusion and 2013-14 Ford Escape vehicles to replace shifter cable bushings. Ford is issuing a safety recall in North America for approximately 550,000 2013-16 model year Ford Fusion and 2013-14 Ford Escape vehicles to replace shifter cable bushings. On affected vehicles, the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may detach from the transmission. A degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission may allow the transmission to be in a gear state different than the gear shift position selected by the driver. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to “Park” and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in “Park,” with no warning message or audible chime. If the parking brake is not applied, a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Wife was driving car and just stopped going up a hill. Car was on and transmission was in drive, but when she pressed accelerator, it would Rev up but not go anywhere. Had to be towed home. This is an ongoing problem with the transmission in these models. I have no idea why there has been no recall. This is extremely dangerous. Please make Ford recall these transmissions. They are already being sued for the same transmissions in other vehicles. Thank you

Extremely dangerous: car is stalling while driving. Typically, this issue occurs when starting my vehicle and pulling out into the road. Majority of the time this has occurred in smaller/neighborhood streets without much traffic. However, there have been a few times this has occurred when pulling out into traffic, or worse: trying to make a left and being stuck in on-coming traffic. This issue has been on-going for over a year (date of the first occurrence reported below), but is very intermittently occurring. I have taken my vehicle into a mechanic and Ford certified dealership, and no codes show up. I’ve left my car with the dealership to attempt to recreate the issue, and they’ve been unable to. This has occurred at least 50 times by now. I’ve found plenty of forums of reports of the same issue occurring. One reference with hundreds of comments of people searching for answers how to fix the issue: https://www.fordescape.org/threads/engine-stalling-or-cutting-out-while-driving.22274/ Luckily, I have been fortunate to not have had an accident occur because of this malfunction…yet. There has never been a recall for this issue, and Ford should be held accountable. This is a very dangerous hazard!
